Thermal energy storage (TES), the storage of heat or cooling, is a cost-effective energy storage technology that can greatly enhance the performance of the energy systems with which it interacts. TES acts as a buffer between transient supply and demand of energy. In solar thermal systems, TES enables the power output of the plant to be effectively regulated, despite fluctuating solar irradiance. In district energy systems, TES can be used to shift loads, allowing the system to avoid or take advantage of peak energy prices. The benefit of TES, however, can be significantly enhanced by dynamical

Abstract:
This paper investigates the characteristics of a micro-scale end-milling process using the electro-hydro-dynamic (EHD) spray lubrication with chilly air. A new hybrid cooling and lubrication system was developed by integrating EHD spray and chilly air supply modules. In the experiments, the milling forces and burr formation are observed according to varying cooling and lubrication conditions. It is demonstrated that the developed new hybrid cooling and lubrication system can reduce milling forces and burrs significantly.

Abstract:
This paper provides a simplified analysis tool to predict the energy savings associated with the usage of a hybrid air conditioning system that combines liquid desiccant, absorption chiller, natural gas turbine cogeneration system with thermal storage (hereafter hybrid cogeneration system) versus a watercooled centrifugal chiller with a natural gas boiler (hereafter conventional system). The hybrid cogeneration system is controlled to track both electrical and thermal loads. The simplified analysis method is formulated from detailed energy simulation models. Abstract:
This rapid evidence review was conducted to inform a study on how place-based services evolve in a world of virtual, physical and hybrid service delivery. The review sought to identify innovations and attempted enhancements facilitated by changing technologies, and unplanned changes brought about by COVID-19 and the responses of different agencies and services.

Abstract:
This study sheds light on the growing trend and gender dynamics of workplace flexibility in Latin America, underscoring the importance of remote work options in the regions labor market. We explore gender differences in willingness to pay (WTP) for remote work arrangements in Latin America, using a discrete choice experiment across five countries: Colombia, Peru, Mexico, Chile, and Argentina. Results reveals a general trend among Latin American workers to trade off some wage in exchange for more remote work options, both fully and partially remote, in two male-dominated occupations: Manufactur

Abstract:
Play during early childhood is key to stimulating childrens physical, social, emotional and cognitive development; it promotes their imagination and creativity, improves their problem-solving skills and enhances their learning readiness by providing the foundations to build skills later in their lives. Parental engagement in play-based learning at home is one of the behaviors most consistently associated with positive child development. However, it is concerning that levels of parental engagement in play activities have been found to be lower in low-resourced settings. Additionally, research o

This report presents findings from a comprehensive survey of 18 central banks and banking supervisor authorities in Latin America and the Caribbean, including major economies like Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and Mexico. The survey aimed to assess the adoption of the Basel III standards across the region and revealed significant diversity in regulatory capital frameworks. Notably, while 75 percent of respondent countries have adopted Basel III for some financial intermediaries, 44 percent still maintain hybrid systems allowing for Basel I or II standards. The first Important Shark and Ray Areas (ISRA) regional expert workshop was held in hybrid mode (in person and online) in Bogotá, Colombia from 3–7 October 2022. The goal was to identify and delineate three dimensional and discrete portions of habitat that are critical to the survival of sharks, rays, and chimaeras, and that have the potential to be managed for conservation. The region covered was the Central and South American Pacific, from the Gulf of California in Mexico to southern Chile. Student-centered pedagogy has been widely advocated in many contexts with student active participation in learning being a central element. Vietnam has adopted innovative pedagogies including child-centered and competency-based teaching to further active learning and develop students’ full potential. This study explores Vietnamese teachers’ views about student participation and teaching roles as they implement these progressive reforms. It also examines pedagogical practices that teachers planned to use and actually employed to support student learning through meaningful participation. Drawing
