Abstract:
There is a growing research and production interest for the application of lower-cost hybrid cross-laminated timber (CLT) panels composed of timber layers of dissimilar quality. Therefore, an approach for the design of cost-effective hybrid CLT panels in bending, based on the existing analytical and novel finite element procedures, is presented in the paper. The gamma-method, the extended gamma method, and the composite theory are applied in the analysis of square panels, while the finite element model based on the Reddy’s full layerwise theory is used for the complex-shape panels in bending.

This paper examines CLT-steel hybrid systems at three, six, and nine storey heights to increase seismic force resistance compared to a plain wood system. CLT panels are used as infill in a steel moment frame combining the ductility of a steel moment frame system with a stiffness and light weight of CLT panels. This system allows for the combination of high strength and ductility of steel with high stiffness and light weight of timber. Abstract:
<p>This study discusses the results of the seismic performance of a single-story cross-laminated timber (CLT) building with post-tensioned CLT rocking walls, coupled with pressurized sand dampers (PSD), using real-time hybrid simulation (RTHS). Firstly, the details of the building are presented, and then, the RTHS approach is introduced. The analytical substructure in the RTHS contains the numerical model of a self-centering (SC) post-tensioned CLT rocking wall (SC-CLT wall), while two physical PSDs form the experimental substructure. This is a collaborative study where the PSDs are desi

Abstract. Climate change and global warming, driven primarily by human activities, are urgent global issues necessitating immediate attention and action. The construction sector, responsible for nearly 40% of global greenhouse gas emissions, plays a critical role in these challenges. This study focuses on designing a sustainable multi-story edifice at Neom-The Line using cross-laminated timber (CLT) and light gauge steel (LGS) as lightweight floor systems. By comparing the carbon emissions of a CLT-hybrid building and an LGS-hybrid building, the study demonstrates the potential of sustainable

Abstract:
This study conducted small-scale trials under various concentration and exposure time (CET) scenarios to determine florpyrauxifen-benzyl activity on dioecious hydrilla and hybrid watermilfoil and determine impact on water stargrass and elodea. Hydrilla treated with 12, 24, or 36 μg active ingredient (a.i.) L⁻¹ florpyrauxifen-benzyl and exposed for 12, 24, or 48 hr under outdoor mesocosm conditions was reduced in biomass by 30-75% at 8 weeks after treatment (WAT). An additional hydrilla trial at the same herbicide concentrations, but under longer exposures (24, 72, or 168 hr), resulted in 33–85

Abstract:
The Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin (WCSB) covers a large part of southern Saskatchewan and hosts many resources such as critical mineral deposits (i.e. potash, helium and lithium) as well as oil and gas reservoirs and is also targeted for deep CO2 storage projects. There is also growing interest in the groundwater resources, the geothermal potential and hydrogen recovery potential. These applications require knowledge of the subsurface geology such as formation thickness and depth, relationships with adjacent formations or unconformities and ultimately, distribution of physical properties

Abstract:
Potyviruses form one of the largest and most economically important groups of plant viruses. Individual potyviruses and their isolates vary in symptom expression, host range, and ability to overcome host resistance genes. Understanding factors influencing these biological characteristics is of agricultural importance for epidemiology and deployment of resistance strategies. Cucurbit crops are subject to severe losses by several potyviruses including the highly aggressive and variable zucchini yellow mosaic virus (ZYMV). In this project we sought to investigate protein domains in ZYMV that infl

Homologous proteins of FIE and MEA in other organisms are known to regulate gene transcription by modulating chromatin structure. Based on our results, we proposed a model whereby both FIE and MEA interact to suppress transcri
