In this paper a new wind pumping system is developed. This system is hybrid between mechanical and electrical wind pumping systems. It combines the advantages of these two systems. The developed wind pumping system consists of wind turbine, special gearbox, DC machine, battery bank, and water pump. Three wind pumping systems have been modeled and then simulated by using MATLAB/SIMULINK. The simulation results show that the developed wind pumping system has the best performance. Thus, the extracted water volume of the developed system is 984.1 m3, where mechanical and electrical systems extract

This study examines the integration of grid and solar energy resources in remote water pumping systems to improve performance and reliability. The feasibility of a hybrid solar PV-grid system is investigated to assess its technical and financial performance compared to standalone solar PV or grid systems. A unique aspect of this hybrid system is the utilization of a water storage tank instead of energy storage for solar PV conversion. The system comprises a PV array, inverter, AC motor, submersible pump, storage tank, grid supply, and control systems. The paper presents a cost-effectiveness an

Abstract:
Visual inspection is the most used method to detect seepage at dams. Early detection can be difficult with this method, and use of appropriate real time monitoring could significantly increase the chances of recognizing possible failure. Seepages can be identified by analyzing changes in water and soil temperature. Optical fiber placed at the embankment’s downstream toe has been proven to be an efficient means of detecting real time changes at short intervals over several kilometers. This study aims to demonstrate how temperatures measured using fiber optic distributed sensing can be used to m

Abstract:
Over the last few decades, the organic agriculture sector has experienced sustained growth. Globally, as well as in the European Union and Portugal, organic production accounts for just under 10% of total Utilised Agricultural Area (UAA) (FiBL, 2019; Eurostat, 2019; DGADR, 2019; INE, 2019; GPP, 2019). This growth has been seen in terms of production, number of producers, amount of retail sales, imports and exports. This article attempts to build on the multi-level perspective (MLP) of the socio-technical (ST) transitions theory by employing a whole systems analysis (Geels, 2018) of organic agr

Abstract:
Performance testing pumps in the field can be challenging and even more complicated when the pump is in crude oil pipeline service. Pumps installed in crude oil pipelines normally do not meet the basic requirements set forth in typical pump testing standards, additionally crude oil fluid properties are irregular, thus making it difficult to obtain the desired accuracy for proper evaluation and comparison to factory tests. All inconsistencies need to be evaluated and reconciled to successfully field performance test pumps pumping viscous fluid. The objective of this project is to develop a prac

Abstract:
Pahvant Valley, located in Millard County, Utah, encompasses 1610 square miles and includes several small towns, agricultural districts, hot springs, and biologically important wetlands, all heavily reliant on groundwater. This study, conducted by the Utah Geological Survey during 2022 and 2023, aims to define Pahvant Valley’s water recharge and discharge estimates, characterize its primary hydrogeologic units, and describe groundwater recharge and discharge areas. The research includes the collection of groundwater and surface water samples to estimate flow paths, sources of recharge and disc

Abstract:
Background Early detection and identification of faulty greenhouse operation is essential, if losses are to be minimized by taking immediate corrective actions. Automatic detection and identification would also free the greenhouse manager to tend to his other business. Original objectives The general objective was to develop a method, or methods, for the detection, identification and accommodation of faults in the greenhouse. More specific objectives were as follows: 1. Develop accurate systems models, which will enable the detection of small deviations from normal behavior (of sensors, contro
