A hýbris, cujo conceito é discutido brevemente no artigo, normalmente é tratada, na cultura grega arcaica e clássica, como um atentado contra mortais ou imortais. Para que exista uma hýbris, é necessário haver um excesso em relação a certo limite e uma contrapartida punitiva, a partir de uma themistosýnē, de um senso específico de justiça, um pouco diverso da dikaiosýnē. Este artigo propõe que se pense na hýbris contra a phýsis (cujo conceito também é discutido brevemente), como uma forma de entender-se tanto a contrapartida punitiva que redunda em doença (individual ou coletiva) quanto a forma de evitar ou contornar as consequências ou mesmo o cometimento da hýbris a partir da aplicação de conhecimentos específicos.

At the close of the Cyclops adventure Odysseus piously sacrifices to Zeus the ram that has carried him out of Polyphemus' cave. Yet the god spurns his offering and ponders instead the destruction of Odysseus' ships and their crews (ix 553–5):These lines need explaining, as they present two difficulties, one formal, the other thematic. How can Odysseus know what Zeus is pondering? As a first-person narrator Odysseus assumes temporarily the role of the epic poet, yet without being given the latter's omniscience. He retains therefore the restricted perspective of an epic character which precludes any precise knowledge of supernatural processes.

Destacando a transição do medievo para a modernidade sem, contudo, perder a dimensão de sua proveniência grega, a investigação parte da tese nietzschiana que afirma ser a hybris a essência do homem moderno e retroage com Heidegger até Heráclito para analisar o fenômeno em sua fonte. Tendo a origem (antiguidade) e o fim (modernidade) determinados, a discussão encaminha-se para a apropriação romano-cristã da hybris nas figuras medievais do imperium e do sacerdotium e aponta, por fim, como tais estruturas possibilitarão a morte de Deus a partir do nascimento da subjetividade e de sua degeneração em niilismo, aparições modernas da hybris e momentos capitais de desenvolvimento da metafísica enquanto métron do real.

Abstract:

The focal point of this article is the detailed study of the concept of hybris recently published by N.R.E. Fisher, and the differences of interpretation which exist between that study and other recent work on the concept. Though I dispute much of what Fisher has to say about hybris, I also defend many of his most important insights, and readily admit that my own task has been made immeasurably lighter by his industry and integrity in the presentation of a wealth of valuable data. That I take issue with his thesis is no token of disesteem, rather a recognition that he has made a strong case for his interpretation and that disagreement with a study as well documented as his must rest on detailed discussion of individual passages.

Nosso artigo pretende mostrar que no entendimento de Marx, o sistema capitalista é um sistema regido pelo princípio daquilo que afronta o λόγος e o racional, por aquilo que na cultura grega era chamado de hybris e ananké: a violência insana e a necessidade incontrolável do destino. A violência é um princípio do capital que faz parte tanto de sua gênese histórica quanto de seu desenvolvimento moderno. A violência originária do capital inglês dos séculos XIV-XVII sobre o campesinato semi-feudal forma a pré-história do capital. A continuidade desta violência sobre os povos atrasados forma a história moderna do capital. Num caso, a violência atua para formar o primeiro capital, o capital original, noutro caso, atua para desenvolver e universalizar seu conceito. Em ambos, a violência é inevitável e inseparável do capital.

Abstract:

The wings of a dragonfly have many complicated structures. The configuration of the costal vein of the wings of a dragonfly is different from them of other insects. So, we paid attention to the configuration of the costal vein of the wings in this study. In order to know the functions and structures of the wings of a dragonfly, several 3-D models of the wing of Anotogaster Sieboldii were created, and calculated with the 3-D finite element method. In addition, we created a 3-D model of the wing of Hybris Subjacens which has the configuration of original wing, and compared the models of Anotogaster Sieboldii and Hybris Subjacens. As a result, it was clarified that the arch configuration of the costal vein controls the bending and the torsion of the wings.

Segundo pensadores do século IV a.C, especialmente Platão e Aristóteles, a tirania seria a pior das formas de governo. Todavia, a bibliografia recente sobre as autocracias na Grécia tem entendido que as ligações entre os atenienses e a tirania eram ambíguas. Hybris, por sua vez, é uma noção que foi sofrendo alterações ao longo da história da Grécia Antiga. Se nos poemas homéricos e hesiódicos ela se caracterizava por uma conduta contrária à retidão (dike), uma arrogância marcada por um comportamento no nível do excesso, no período clássico essa palavra estava principalmente relacionada ao ataque à honra (timé) de um cidadão. Pretendemos neste artigo explorar as relações entre tirania e hybris na Atenas dos períodos arcaico (VII-VI séculos a.C) e clássico (V e IV séculos a.C) e compreender as associações entre os tiranos e um comportamento desmedido, hibrístico ao longo das épocas mencionadas.

SummaryAnalysing Greek literary sources together with a selection of preserved ostraka, this article discusses the interrelationships between the prevention of hybris, the perceptions of tyranny, and the purposes of practising ostracism in fifth-century Athens. It will be proposed that the political decisions to organize ostrakophoriai were reactions to the threat posed by hybristic disposition of an individual – hence, ostracism played a role in detecting and punishing one’s motives and intentions. It will also be proposed that luxurious life-style was perceived by the Athenians both as a sign of Medism and of a hybristic disposition characteristic of a would-be-tyrant. Thus, profligate life-styles of political figures might have urged the Athenians to organise ostrakophoriai.

Wir weisen auf einige Schwächen dieses Verfahrens hin, insbesondere die Gefahr der Hybris der Führungskräfte und die „leaky pipeline“ für weibliche Führungskräfte. Wir zeigen anhand von zwei Laborexperimenten, dass ein fast vergessenes Verfahren - die fokale Zufallsauswahl - Abhilfe bieten könnte.

Abstract:

The themes of hybris, erôs and mania are interconnected in Plato’s final opus, the Laws, regarding his narrator’s construction of sexually accepted norms for his ‘second-best’, utopian society. This article examines this formulation, its psychological characteristics and philosophical underpinnings. The role and function of his social programme are considered in the context of the Laws and the hypothetical polis outlined therein. However, this particular formulation is not a new development in later Platonic thought. It is, rather, a logical extension of earlier Platonic ideas, expressed in a number of previous dialogues, and brought to bear in the peculiar circumstances of the ‘second-best’ polis. This can be especially observed in relation to the Symposium and Phaedrus. Instead of regarding the construction of sexuality in the Laws as a work in isolation, these earlier ideas are here considered intertextually as part of a broader Platonic continuum.

Abstract:

A tanulmány célja újolag szemügyre venni a Phaethón töredék kapcsán felmerülő három legfontosabb kérdést és az arra adott válaszokat: milyen jellem és összeütközés húzódik meg a főhős végletes tiltakozása mögött a házasság ellen, kicsoda a rejtélyes menyasszony, végezetül meglévő ismereteink alapján milyen befejezés látszik megfelelni a drámai szövetnek? Dolgozatomban Goethe helyreállítási kísérletének kitüntetett figyelmet szentelek, mi több a költő egyes javaslatai nem csak művészileg, de filológiailag is helytállónak bizonyulnak. Némi személyes elfogultsága mindenesetre már a phaethóni jellem új értelmezése és a hybris-dráma átértékelése felé mutat a Faust II Euphorion-jelenetében.
