Abstract:
Introduction. Butein ‒ 2',4',3,4-tetrahydroxychalcone is found in a number of plants that have a pronounced antimicrobial and antifungal effect: Butea monosperma Lam., hairy string ‒ Bidens pilosa L., tripartite string ‒ Bidens tripartita L., hydrophytum ‒ Hydnophytum formicarum Jack., early thyme ‒ Thymus praecox. Butein is not the dominant representative of the flavonoid class in plants, but it can serve as a marker compound for the analysis of raw materials containing this chalcone. The purpose of the study is to synthesize and analyze a working standard sample of butein, as well as to deve

<i>Strychnos</i> (Loganiaceae, Gentianales) is a large and pantropical genus of woody plants, ethnobotanically important as a source of many toxic alkaloids, including strychnine. Unfortunately, the status of numerous names at various ranks of <i>Strychnos</i> remains unresolved, including that of many specific or infraspecific taxa in the Neotropics. In this study, we address <i>Strychnos bredemeyeri</i> (basionym <i>Lasiostoma bredemeyeri</i>), a species described in 1827 based on type material collected in Venezuela during the poorly documented Austrian Märter expedition (1783–1788). <i>Str

Antioxidant activity of Sarang Semut tubers (Hydnophytum sp.) extracts toward stepping treatments was investigated. Powder of sarang semut tubers was diluted in 200 ml of distilled water then its being subjected to stepping treatment of three different treatments: cooked at 60, 80 and 100 °C for 2, 4 and 6 minutes. Effect of stepping treatment of Sarang Semut tuber juices on the antioxidant activity and the total phenol contents was investigated. Antioxidant activity of Sarang Semut tuber juices was estimated according to DPPH methods. The total phenol content in the tuber juices was measured

Contemporary developments have indicated an escalating demand for plant-derived pharmaceutical products. Apart from their economic value, the utilization of medicinal plants is believed to pose a considerably reduced risk of adverse effects when compared to the use of synthetic drugs. One of the approaches to determine the potential of a medicinal plant against biological diseases is the quest for novel medications using natural constituents. In this present investigation, we sought to determine the immunomodulatory and hepatoprotective properties of Hydnophytum formicarum in BALB/c mice. The

The present study aimed to investigate the activity of Hydnophytum formicarum Jack (Ant Plant) tuber extract against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli and the mode of action of the extract on bacterial responses. The antibacterial activity was determined using agar well diffusion method. Resazurin-based 96-well microdilution method was used to determine the Minimal Inhibitory Concentrations (MIC) of the extract. Mode of action on bacterial death and response patterns to the extract were assessed by flow cytometry using membrane integrity and granularity profiles. The results, based on
