Abstract:
In this study soil hydro-physical properties such as soil texture, available water capacity, and organic carbon, along with existing land use and topography of a representative watershed of eastern India (Kadalipal watershed, 20.80–20.86°N and 85.54–86.50°E, Dhenkanal district, Orissa), were spatially mapped after collecting data from different sources (ground-truthing, profile survey, remote sensing satellite imagery). Since availability of water is confined to the south-west monsoon period (rainy season, June–September), eastern India is mainly mono-cropped, dominated by rice but second crop

Abstract. Estimating soil moisture typically involves calibrating models to sparse networks of in~situ sensors, which introduces considerable error in locations where sensors are not available. We address this issue by calibrating parameters of a parsimonious soil moisture model, which requires only antecedent precipitation information, at gauged locations and then extrapolating these values to ungauged locations via a hydro-climatic classification system. The dimensional stability of dental impression materials is one of the variables that contribute to the accuracy or to the inexactitude of dentures. The rheological properties of several dental impression materials were determined by amplitude and frequency sweep tests. Deformation, storage modulus G’, loss modulus G” and complex viscosity η*were studied for each sample. Moreover, the texture, the stability of the shape, the capacity of distribution on different surfaces and the stability to storage for a long period of time were investigated. All these samples, characterized by a gel structur

Under the influence of the saline process (sodium exchange rate of 5-15% and specific electrical conductivity of the extract from the water-saturated paste ECse < 2 dSm/m) the well aggregated black earth material used for soil reclamation by means of hydromorphous black earth salt complexes starts to turn into a peptized state and is evolutionarily transformed into a texture-differentiated profile of saline soil. Part of the previously aggregated silt passes to the water-performed state and begins to move down the profile from 0-4 cm layer. Water-performed sludge consists of highly ordered

The present study compares experimental unsaturated hydraulic conductivity functions, K(θ), of 9 soils of Maharashtra State of India, 3 each in the clay, clay loam, and loam textural classes, all predicted by a particle size distribution (PSD) based model. PSD data were transformed into pore-size distribution using Aryas' modified model. Experimental K(θ) curves were determined by the horizontal infiltration method. Fifteen soils, 5 each with clay, clay loam, and loam texture, were used to evaluate the parameters of flow model (i.e. qi = crix) empirically. These parameters deviated from Hagen-

Change in soil moisture regime is highly relevant for agricultural drought, which can be best analyzed in terms of Soil Moisture Deficit Index (SMDI). A macroscale hydrological model Variable Infiltration Capacity (VIC) was used to simulate the hydro-climatological fluxes including evapotranspiration, runoff, and soil moisture storage to reconstruct the severity and duration of agricultural drought over semi-arid region of India. The simulations in VIC were performed at 0.25° spatial resolution by using a set of meteorological forcing data, soil parameters and Land Use Land Cover (

Abstract:
The intensification of climate change has led to the degradation of thousands of arable lands through desertification and extreme weather events. The Danube River basin in the Galati-Braila region, SE Romania, is a transboundary area of community and international importance, increasingly affected by drought, water, and wind erosion. Consequently, the aim of this study is to evaluate the main physical and hydro-physical parameters of soils, implied in water storage and with a defining role in erosion intensity, nutrients and toxicants cycle and availability, and crops yield. Many fossil power plants in N. America are now required to operate in excess of 20 years beyond their original design life. To ensure safe reliable operation, life assessment of key high-risk components is required. Life assessment of older power plant requires the application of many diverse techniques and the integration of several engineering disciplines with plant operations experience. Traditional approaches to life assessment of high temperature components will be described and illustrated with examples taken from experience on large coal fired plants from the old Ontario Hydro system.
