After Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) were first used in the field of hydrography in 1980, developments in hydrographic surveying accelerated. Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS), Real Time Kinematic (RTK) and Network RTK (NRTK) techniques are the satellite-based positioning techniques that are commonly used in shallow water surveys and shoreline measurements. The aim was to collect multibeam data, sub-bottom profile data, and grab samples for mapping bathymetry and surficial geology-one of the objectives of Marine Geoscience for Marine Spatial Planning Program. This expedition totally covered approximately 1770 km² of multibeam survey, navigated 10,576 km of sub-bottom profile lines, and collected 40 grab samples. The survey regions included Swiftsure Bank, Amphitrite Bank, Cartwright S

Abstract:
The Geological Survey of Canada (GSC) undertook marine fieldwork onboard the Canadian Coast Guard Ship (CCGS) Vector to locate and map potential geohazards and geological features in the Salish Sea in the interest of public safety from August 11-18, 2021. This work was conducted under the Natural Resources Canada Marine Geoscience for Marine Spatial Planning (MGMSP) and the Public Safety Geoscience Programs. The GSC had observed multiple potential faults in existing data near Central Haro Strait, Stuart Channel, South of Hornby Island and near Cape Lazo through existing CHIRP and multibeam bat

Abstract:
An important part of seabed mapping is understanding the shape of the seabed and the depth of water. Hydrographic charts are produced for this purpose by the Canadian Hydrographic Service. During the final survey stages of the Harbour a new technology called multibeam bathymetry became available for high resolution mapping. This system uses transducers (sound sources) mounted on a ship that produce many independent sound beams and can map a large swath of the seabed at one time covering 100% of the bottom. The images that are produced are computer shaded to look as if the water is drained and

Vertical datums used in the study area at the Low Sill and Overbank Structures in southern Louisiana have involved Memphis Datum, Mean Gulf Level, Mean Sea Level, Mean Sea Level Datum of 1929, National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929, and the North American Vertical Datum of 1988. The focus of this study was to examine historic benchmarks in the study area to determine the magnitude of elevation changes associated with the different legacy datums that have been used by the US Army Corps of Engineers. Comparison of elevation values across these legacy datums has involved examining historic hydr

Abstract:
The Corps Shoaling Analysis Tool (CSAT) is a suite of computational routines for evaluating shoaling rates in navigation channels maintained by the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). This is achieved using survey data from the eHydro enterprise hydrographic survey database. At the local scale, CSAT’s outputs are useful for understanding historical shoaling trends and identifying shoaling hotspots, while enterprise-level shoaling forecasts support Operations and Maintenance (O&M) planning over a 5-year time horizon. This user guide provides practical, step-by-step instructions for new CSAT

Abstract:
This study explores the use of high-resolution acoustic mapping systems to penetrate fluid-mud layers by quantitatively relating depth with operating frequency. Prior to this study, multibeam surveys have proven be an effective method to elucidate the seafloor and collect bathymetric data on various bodies of water including rivers, lakes, bays, and the oceans. These techniques are regularly used on US Army Corps of Engineers dredged and federally maintained navigation channels. The objective of the study was to test the effectiveness of commercial off-the-shelf, low-frequency, high-resolution
