Abstract:
Background: Antimicrobial resistance is a global public health threat. Integrated actions are necessary to reduce multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs) in healthcare settings, including antimicrobial stewardship, infection prevention measures, and optimal environmental hygiene. We developed a project to improve hospital hygiene that involves 3 phases: (1) diagnostic, compounded by assessment of cleanliness and identification of barriers and facilitators for environment cleanliness improvement; (2) intervention, based on review of structure and processes followed by a training program focused on major weaknesses identified; and (3) evaluation, impact of the intervention assessment. Objectives: We performed group interviews to identify barriers and facilitators for improving environment cleanliness. Methods: The project was performed by the infection control team and the housekeeping manager in a 350-bed, private hospital located in the city of São Paulo (Brazil). Two group interviews were conducted, one involving supervisors and the other involving housekeeping cleaners. All professionals were invited to participate. A semistructured questionnaire was used to guide the discussion, which was compounded by the following topics: working process, availability of human and material resources, training on institutional norms and routines, perception regarding work conditions, and quality of cleanliness. Results: In total, 33 professionals attended the interviews: 12 were supervisors and 21 were housekeeping cleaners. The main facilitator identified was a good perception by the housekeeping team regarding the project. We identified several sets of barriers: (1) human resources, such as supervisor executing the cleaning, inadequate sizing of human resources in shifts, reduced scale on Sunday and holiday shifts, and lack of professional replacement for sick leave and vacation; (2) supplies and equipment, such as torn bed linen, insufficient mops, centralized and inadequate dilution of sanitizers causing delays and impacting quality of hygiene; (3) education, such as lack of training program perceived by supervisors (management) and housekeeping cleaners (basic procedures for cleaning) and knowledge regarding who cleans what; (4) motivation and relationships, such as supervisor perceptions that housekeeping cleaners are unmotivated, and this causes absenteeism. The team feels that they are disregarded by doctors, and they have relationship problems with nursing and hospital engineering staff. Also, they are afraid of being physically assaulted by coworkers. Finally, professionals reported the perception that the hospital is not clean enough and that this is related to the short time goals imposed on the staff. Conclusions: The main barriers identified were related to education strategies and management of human and material resources. The results will support the intervention phase.Funding: NoneDisclosures: None

Abstract:
AimTo explore indigenous communities’ responses to the COVID-19 pandemic and its consequences for maternal and neonatal health (MNH) care in the Peruvian Amazon.MethodsMamás del Río is a community-based, MNH programme with comprehensive supervision covering monthly meetings with community health workers (CHW), community leaders and health facilities. With the onset of the lockdown, supervisors made telephone calls to discuss measures against COVID-19, governmental support, CHW activities in communities and provision of MNH care and COVID-19 preparedness at facilities. As part of the programme’s ongoing mixed methods evaluation, we analysed written summaries of supervisor calls collected during the first 2 months of Peru’s lockdown.ResultsBetween March and May 2020, supervisors held two rounds of calls with CHWs and leaders of 68 communities and staff from 17 facilities. Most communities banned entry of foreigners, but about half tolerated residents travelling to regional towns for trade and social support. While social events were forbidden, strict home isolation was only practised in a third of communities as conflicting with daily routine. By the end of April, first clusters of suspected cases were reported in communities. COVID-19 test kits, training and medical face masks were not available in most rural facilities. Six out of seven facilities suspended routine antenatal and postnatal consultations while two-thirds of CHWs resumed home visits to pregnant women and newborns.ConclusionsHome isolation was hardly feasible in the rural Amazon context and community isolation was undermined by lack of external supplies and social support. With sustained community transmission, promotion of basic hygiene and mask use becomes essential. To avoid devastating effects on MNH, routine services at facilities need to be urgently re-established alongside COVID-19 preparedness plans. Community-based MNH programmes could offset detrimental indirect effects of the pandemic and provide an opportunity for local COVID-19 prevention and containment.

Abstract:
Motivation of workers is a field of interest to any institution. Motivated workers displaying high levels of satisfaction, or otherwise lack of dissatisfaction, have a positive impact on the overall work performance. The study aims to measure motivation levels and the influence of factors such as motivation-hygiene on satisfaction/dissatisfaction level among workers of social care institutions. A quantitative method of assessment is used. The sample consists of 110 workers. Results show a positive and statistically significant correlation between motivation factors and the levels of satisfaction with work. Responsibility is the selected factor with the biggest impact on satisfaction by the workers of the institutions surveyed. There is a positive but not statistically significant correlation between such factors as hygiene and lack of satisfaction at work. To the workers, the responsible supervisor is the factor with the biggest impact on the lack of satisfaction at work, while administrative policies are calculated as being r (Pearson) = -0.27 and sig = 0.761, which shows that they influence the dissatisfaction levels at work. Therefore institutions must pay attention to motivation strategies with the purpose of increasing satisfaction and thus decreasing dissatisfaction levels at work.

Abstract:
Canteen has an important role to provide of nutritious and safe food for students during school hours with relatively affordable prices. The results of Food and Drugs Monitoring (BPOM) inspection in 2013 by taking a sample of School Children Confectionary (PJAS) found that 80.79% of the samples confirmed as free from microbiological contamination. These results decrease in 2014, whereas PJAS samples confirmed as free from microbiological contamination is was 76.18%. This study aimed to analyze the implementation of personal hygiene food handlers in the cafeteria of SDN Model to figures Total Plate Count (TPC) in food. This was a descriptive study using cross sectional design. Samples were taken with total sampling where the sample size in this study was the total population of cafeteria booth at SDN Model, there are 5 booths canteen, 5 food handlers, and 5 food samples were taken from each canteen booth. All food samples were tested for bacteriological quality using Total Plate Count (TPC) parameter. The use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as mask, gloves, headgear, and apron is important to minimize contamination of microorganism from food handlers to food produced. In addition, the selection of ingredients, storage duration, and storage temperature are required to be considered. Suggestion for the cafeteria supervisor of SDN Model and food handler: for the cafeteria supervisor SDN Model to impose regulation and education for food handlers to use PPE during food processing. It is suggested to food handlers to get used to in using PPE during processing the food

Abstract:
Hospital food hygiene plays an important role to patient's health. Studies proved that improper practices and lack of knowledge are contributing factors of foodborne diseases. This study was conducted to determine knowledge, attitude and practice of hospital safe food handling in Semarang, Central Java. A cross sectional study was conducted in two general hospitals' kitchen. Data were collected from 60 food handlers through validated questionnaire. Respondents were grouped into two categories: a. Teaching Hospital, and b.Non-teaching Hospital. Data were collected in February-April 2017. Most of food handlers (80%) were graduated from vocational senior high school (SMK). Respondent's age were 28-37 years (36.7%) in average. Most of respondent‟s work experience (85%) was less than 15 years. The result showed that more than 80% of food handlers have good knowledge in safe food handling procedures, good attitude (66%) and good practices (90%). There was no significant difference of knowledge, attitude and practices between two groups. Results strongly emphasize the need of food hygiene training of hospital food handlers. It also suggest that non food handlers such as nurse or kitchen supervisor should involved in the training. Some aspects of food handlers' safety behavior need to be emphasized.

Abstract:
Objective: This evaluation examined the effectiveness and cultural compatibility of a community health worker (CHW) training programme on water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) in Haiti. Design: Mixed-methods including pre- and post-course tests of WASH knowledge, focus group discussions and semi-structured observation. Setting: Haiti is among the world’s most underdeveloped nations for WASH infrastructure. In rural areas of the country, fewer than half of households have access to clean water and 22% have adequate sanitation facilities. The study evaluated a ‘train-the-trainer’ programme in rural southeast Haiti. Methods: Participants were 22 CHW supervisors responsible for training and monitoring the work of rural junior health agents (JHAs). The training programme was delivered by international trainers and consisted of 1 week of classroom training and 1 week of community-based experiential learning. Paired-samples t-tests were used to assess changes in knowledge, and robust qualitative methods were used to analyse focus group discussion and observation data. Results: Participants showed statistically significant improvement in WASH knowledge from pre- to post-test. In experiential supervisor-led training sessions, participants effectively conveyed course content to JHAs, and successful home visits demonstrated the potential for content to reach community members. The programme would benefit from providing educational materials to enhance dissemination. Participants expressed dissatisfaction with translations of course content and requested more frequent training, more emphasis on leadership development and specific content areas for future training. Conclusion: The CHW training programme enhanced trainees’ WASH knowledge and capacity to educate JHAs to disseminate the knowledge to local residents. The train-the-trainer model offers a cost-effective strategy for building local capacity for health education.

Abstract:
The present study discussed the motivational factors of Herzberg two factor theories in the perspective of the administrative staff of the telecom sector of Pakistan. The study investigates whether these motivational (intrinsic) factors and hygiene (extrinsic) factors affect the job satisfaction of administrative staff and their influence on telecommunication sectors. The motivational (intrinsic) factors i.e. recognition, the job itself, responsibility, professional growth. Hygiene (extrinsic) factors i.e. senior management, the role of supervisor, good relation with coworkers. The study also revealed some other factors of human resource development career development, responsibility, compensation and benefits and working atmosphere which are associated with the job satisfaction of administrative staff in the telecom sector in Pakistan. This paper is more inclined towards an exploratory study, were to explore the more important of the topic; the study used a convenience sampling technique to collect data from the administrative staff of telecom sector of Pakistan. The final sample consisted of 150 respondents who are currently working in the telecom sector. Descriptive statistics, correlational and linear regression analysis was used to test hypotheses. The output of this study is revealed that of telecom motivation factor intrinsic positive significant impact on job satisfaction, compensation and benefits has an impact on job satisfaction, the career development is also associated with the job satisfaction of administrative staff, responsibility of work is positively associated with the job satisfaction of telecom.

Nnamoko, N. A. "Ensemble-based supervised learning for predicting diabetes onset." Thesis, Liverpool John Moores University, 2018. http://researchonline.ljmu.ac.uk/8337/.

Full text
Abstract:
The research presented in this thesis aims to address the issue of undiagnosed diabetes cases. The current state of knowledge is that one in seventy people in the United Kingdom are living with undiagnosed diabetes, and only one in a hundred people could identify the main signs of diabetes. Some of the tools available for predicting diabetes are either too simplistic and/or rely on superficial data for inference. On the positive side, the National Health Service (NHS) are improving data recording in this domain by offering health check to adults aged 40 - 70. Data from such programme could be utilised to mitigate the issue of superficial data; but also help to develop a predictive tool that facilitates a change from the current reactive care, onto one that is proactive. This thesis presents a tool based on a machine learning ensemble for predicting diabetes onset. Ensembles often perform better than a single classifier, and accuracy and diversity have been highlighted as the two vital requirements for constructing good ensemble classifiers. Experiments in this thesis explore the relationship between diversity from heterogeneous ensemble classifiers and the accuracy of predictions through feature subset selection in order to predict diabetes onset. Data from a national health check programme (similar to NHS health check) was used. The aim is to predict diabetes onset better than other similar studies within the literature. For the experiments, predictions from five base classifiers (Sequential Minimal Optimisation (SMO), Radial Basis Function (RBF), Naïve Bayes (NB), Repeated Incremental Pruning to Produce Error Reduction (RIPPER) and C4.5 decision tree), performing the same task, are exploited in all possible combinations to construct 26 ensemble models. The training data feature space was searched to select the best feature subset for each classifier. Selected subsets are used to train the classifiers and their predictions are combined using k-Nearest Neighbours algorithm as meta-classifier. Results are analysed using four performance metrics (accuracy, sensitivity, specificity and AUC) to determine (i) if ensembles always perform better than single classifier; and (ii) the impact of diversity (from heterogeneous classifiers) and accuracy (through feature subset selection) on ensemble performance. At base classification level, RBF produced better results than the other four classifiers with 78%accuracy, 82% sensitivity, 73% specificity and 85% AUC. A comparative study shows that RBF model is more accurate than 9 ensembles, more sensitive than 13 ensembles, more specific than 9 ensembles; and produced better AUC than 25 ensembles. This means that ensembles do not always perform better than its constituent classifiers. Of those ensembles that performed better than RBF, the combination of C4.5, RIPPER and NB produced the highest results with 83% accuracy, 87% sensitivity, 79% specificity, and 86% AUC. When compared to the RBF model, the result shows 5.37% accuracy improvement which is significant (p = 0.0332). The experiments show how data from medical health examination can be utilised to address the issue of undiagnosed cases of diabetes. Models constructed with such data would facilitate the much desired shift from preventive to proactive care for individuals at high risk of diabetes. From the machine learning view point, it was established that ensembles constructed based on diverse and accurate base learners, have the potential to produce significant improvement in accuracy, compared to its individual constituent classifiers. In addition, the ensemble presented in this thesis is at least 1% and at most 23% more accurate than similar research studies found within the literature. This validates the superiority of the method implemented.

Johnson, Claire. "Developing inter-professional peer group clinical supervision : an action research study in healthcare." Thesis, University of Huddersfield, 2016. http://eprints.hud.ac.uk/id/eprint/29073/.

Full text
Abstract:
This action research project aimed to develop inter-professional peer clinical supervision involving nurses and allied health professionals within a community health care organization. The literature revealed limited evidence regarding the development of supervisory relationships in peer group supervision and a deficiency of insider reports of interprofessional peer supervision interactions. Preparedness of practitioners and lack of protected time remain as barriers to sustainable clinical supervision. An inter-professional peer clinical supervision group (IPPCSG) was constituted via a four phase action research process. A qualitative approach was employed using a single case study design. The involvement of participants as co-inquirers reflected the participatory nature of action research. All sessions were audio-recorded and fully transcribed with data analysed using Template Analysis. A theoretical framework was developed to support the interpretation of the findings drawing on concepts of democracy and power. This action research study revealed the part played by structure and rules in securing a safe supervision space, with the incorporation of democratic principles being crucial in equalising power relationships. The study illuminates how trust developed and how supervisory relationships matured and provides detail of the transitions between functional peer supervision group roles. Valuable insights have been gained into how challenge and support are balanced when exploring decision-making and risk. The findings suggest that the different professional identities and perspectives within this group did not impinge on the development of effective supervisory transactions. Substantial common ground was revealed regarding issues brought to supervision, professional beliefs, values and experiences. The analysis suggests that processing work-generated emotion should be a core component of supervision. Learning about each other’s practice and learning how to ‘do’ clinical supervision were identified as important outcomes by co-inquirers. The analysis and interpretation of these data produced the Triple Diamond Model of Interprofessional Peer Group Supervision which may resonate with other practitioners and conveners of group clinical supervision. The evaluation of this action research study identified valuable outcomes for co-inquirers in regard to capacity building and personal development and to a lesser extent for the wider organization in contributing to the development of clinical supervision. The IPPCSG has been maintained since the conclusion of the study.

Willette, Susan J. "The Relationship of Personality Type to Leader Style and Perceived Effectiveness among Dental Hygiene School Administrators." Digital Commons @ East Tennessee State University, 1990. https://dc.etsu.edu/etd/2826.

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to identify personality types among dental hygiene school administrators and faculty and to determine if correlations existed between leader style, ideologies of leader style, perceived effectiveness, and personality type. Selected demographic variables were also examined. The dimensions of personality investigated were derived from the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator: extroversion, introversion, sensing, intuition, thinking, feeling, judging, and perceiving. The leadership behavior dimensions were the two dimensions of the real and ideal Leadership Behavior Description Questionnaires: consideration and initiating structure. Effectiveness was measured by a 39 item Likert-type instrument based on Tucker's (1981) categorical listing of chairperson activities and responsibilities. The study was conducted using a random sample of faculty and administrators from 32 dental hygiene programs across the United States. Thirty-two administrators and 148 faculty were surveyed. Responses were received from 23 administrators (71.9 percent) and 96 faculty (64.8 percent). Personality type was correlated with subordinate perception of leader style, ideal leader style, and effectiveness, with the strength of the relationships ranging from weakly negative to moderately positive. Among the correlations observed, those between real initiating structure and introversion, thinking and feeling were significant at the.05 level, as were the relationships between ideal consideration, and thinking and feeling. Relationships significant at the.05 level were also found between instruction and extroversion, introversion, sensing, intuition, and judging and between budget and resources and extroversion. Gender of the administrator and length of tenure did not account for significant differences in leader behavior ratings or effectiveness scores. Age of the administrator, however, was found to account for significant differences in leader behavior ratings, but not effectiveness ratings. A negative relationship was observed between amount of administrative training and effectiveness scores indicating that as administrative training increased effectiveness decreased. Ideal scores reported by faculty were significantly higher than real scores reported by faculty, but no significant difference was observed between the real and ideal scores reported by administrators. Administrators rating low on real consideration and real initiating structure received the lowest effectiveness ratings.

Abstract:
Physical activity is an important component of any weight loss program and is strongly encouraged for severely obese patients undergoing bariatric surgery. However, few studies have determined the amount and intensity of activities undertaken pre- and post-operatively by bariatric surgery patients using objective physical activity measures and none have assessed the impact of a 12-week supervised exercise program on these parameters. The objectives of this dissertation were to: 1) characterize the level of daily physical activity of patients with severe obesity waiting for bariatric surgery, 2) compare the effects of a 12-week supervised training program on the daily level of physical activity at 6 and 12 months after bariatric surgery; and 3) observe associations between daily physical activity level and cardiorespiratory fitness as well as muscle quality at mid-thigh. This randomized controlled trial compared patients who had bariatric surgery and were assigned randomly in a supervised exercise program group (ExG=40) with those who received usual care (CG=19) up to a year post-intervention. Using the SenseWear® Pro 2 Armband accelerometers (SWA), we measured daily PA level to evaluate; 1) physical activity behavior pre- and post-intervention and, 2) to assess the efficacy of a 12-week supervised training intervention to increased daily physical activity in this population. Our work has shown that patients waiting for bariatric surgery are low active or even inactive in their daily lives and that, despite an increase in physical activity levels at 6 and 12 months, participation in a 12-week supervised training program does not provide additional benefits to the daily level of physical activity of these patients. In addition, a higher amount of daily physical activity is associated with a better cardiorespiratory fitness and a higher mid-tight muscle mass quality

Abstract:
Using matched pairs of schools having a diagnosis of Sick Building Syndrome (SBS) and those not identified, and not having the potential of being identified as having the diagnosis, this study examined the relationship between factors assumed or determined to have an impact on a school's ability to carry out its mission as they related to the SBS diagnosis. The factors studied were student average daily attendance (ADA); students' mean standardized test scores in math and reading on the Iowa Test of Basic Skills and the Tests of Achievement and Proficiency; the need for students to take prophylactic medications; the rate of staff turnover; the percentages of short term suspensions (less than 10 days), long term suspensions (more than 10 days), and the percentage of recommendations for expulsion; as well as the impact of the public identification of a school as having a diagnosis of SBS on student ADA, mean standardized test scores in math and reading and staff turnover. A factorial ANOVA model (2 by 4) for repeated measures revealed no statistical significance for main or interaction effects on any of the six hypotheses addressed.

Tkachyk, Leon Michael. "Perceptions of International Teacher Turnover in East Asia Regional Council of Schools." ScholarWorks, 2017. https://scholarworks.waldenu.edu/dissertations/4568.

Full text
Abstract:
High teacher turnover has become a serious problem globally, in many international schools, and is a growing concern in segments of the East Asia Regional Council of Schools (EARCOS). This persistent problem has a detrimental effect on student learning and upsets the culture of school communities. Herzberg's motivation-hygiene theory served as the framework for this qualitative case study research that examined the perceptions of EARCOS international overseas-hire teachers, to determine their beliefs regarding high teacher turnover in international schools. These questions gave direction to this study: What factors do international teachers in EARCOS member schools believe contribute to high teacher turnover in international schools? What do international teachers in EARCOS member schools believe is the result of high teacher turnover in international schools? What steps do international teachers in EARCOS member schools believe should be taken to reduce high turnover in international schools? Purposeful homogenous sampling was used to identify 8 focus group interview participants from the entire pre-K-12 international overseas-hire teacher population from the 149 EARCOS member schools. Coded data were examined, analyzed, and categorized into themes related to Herzberg's motivation-hygiene theory. Member checking, peer debriefing, and external auditing were used to add validity to the research study. The analysis of the data and findings revealed that lack of effective mentorship, lack of administrative leadership support, and ineffective systems are the major contributors to international teacher turnover in international schools. A white paper was developed and constructed from the themes that emerged from this study and presented to EARCOS member school administrators, to potentially use to address the issue of increasing international overseas-hire teacher turnover rates in international schools. This acquired knowledge could lead to positive social change that can influence the practices, structural procedures, and policies of EARCOS and other international school systems related to teacher turnover.

Williams, Karen Nichola. "Relationship Between Novice Teachers' Perceptions of Mentoring Support and Job Satisfaction." ScholarWorks, 2018. https://scholarworks.waldenu.edu/dissertations/6293.

Full text
Abstract:
Low job satisfaction among novice teachers is a problem that has become a concern for administrators at school districts, advancing the need for effective mentoring and induction programs. Induction programs provide opportunities for collaborative relationships through mentoring support to address areas such as professional growth and development, teaching practices, and other challenges faced in the early years of novice teachers' careers. The purpose of this correlational explanatory study was to examine the relationship between mentoring support and novice teachers' job satisfaction at a school district in southern USA. Herzberg's motivation-hygiene theory was the theoretical foundation for the study. The research questions examined the relationships between 3 components of mentoring support (professional growth and development, mentoring, and teaching practices support) and job satisfaction among novice teachers (those with less than 3 years teaching experience) as measured by the Beginning Teachers Survey and the Job in General Survey respectively. The population was comprised of 1,954 teachers who were identified by the district as novice teachers. Of the 114 principals in this district, 32% sent the survey link to the 112 novice teachers at their schools and 78 novice teachers completed the online questionnaire (a response rate of 70%). The Spearman rho coefficient showed moderate, significant relationships for all 3 components of mentoring support. The correlation values in this study ranged from r = .52 to r = .61. This might lead to positive social change by having committed teachers with teaching experience, which would increase students' success. Student success, after all, is the most desirable outcome for students, teachers, and the community. Creating committed teachers requires an effective mentoring support program.

Training transfer is essential to the improvement in productivity and development within the organization. The following study aims at verifying which the training transfer predictors in the workplace are and how efficient this transfer was in relation to Hygiene and Safety at Work. In this sense, the study included a sample made up of 30 employees of an organization in the area of food distribution who participated in a training session. Results showed that the training design is a predictor of training transfer and that the beliefs of auto-efficacy completely mediate that relationship. Results also showed that the support of the supervisor constitutes a moderator in the relationship between autoefficacy beliefs and training transfer. These findings reveal how important it is for organizations to adequately manage the predictors and moderators in order to obtain a good training transfer within the workplace.

Abstract:
Antimicrobial resistance is one of the significant threats to human health. To maintain the benefits of modern medicine, which hardly relies on antimicrobial treatments, all the stakeholders have to work together towards containing antimicrobial resistance. There are three fundamental strategies to tackle antimicrobial resistance: prudent and supervised antimicrobial use, improved hand hygiene, and improved cleaning of the patient environment.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Background: Hand hygiene was the most straightforward and most effective behavior to prevent nosocomial infection. Doing hand-hygiene in 5 moments must be endeavored to improve the quality of service in the hospital. Hospitals must have a PPI team where the Infection Prevention and Control Link Nurse (IPCLN) is part of the structure. The availability of facilities in the hospital is needed to support hand hygiene behavior. This study aimed to know the effect of IPCLN supervision and facilities’ availability on paramedical hand hygiene behavior at Hanau Hospital. Subjects and Method: This was a cross-sectional conducted at Hanau Hospital, Seruyan District, Central Kalimantan. A sample of 83 paramedics at Hanau Hospital was selected for this study by total sampling. The dependent variable was the behavior of hand hygiene paramedic. The independent variable was IPCLN supervision and the availability of facilities. The data were collected by questionnaire. The data was analyzed by Chi Square. Results: The respondents in this study were 67.5% women, 72.3% were under 30 years old, 74.7% had a Diploma-III education, and 69.9% worked less than 5 years. The supervision carried out by IPCLN (OR = 35.25; CI: 4.36 to 258.22), and the availability of facilities (OR = 24.35; CI: 5.10 to 116.26) was statistically significant (p <0.001). Variables that influence the behavior of paramedic hand hygiene at Hanau Hospital are supervision of the IPCLN towards paramedics (B = 2.86; OR = 17.42; 95% CI= 1.94 to 156.78; p= 0.011) together with the variable availability of facilities (B = 2.62; OR = 13.69; 95% CI= 2.62 to 71.49; p= 0.002). Conclusion: The supervision of IPCN and the availability of facilities affect the hand hygiene behavior of paramedics at Hanau Hospital. Abstract:
Background: Consumption of street food in school has an impact on children’s health, especially their nutritional status. Children in the Anak Dalam Tribe (SAD) are mostly malnourished and short. The remote indigenous community (Suku Anak Dalam) in Nyogan Village has undergone a social transition for 15 years since being granted permanent settlement by the Government. Many changes have occurred as well as consumption patterns. This study aims to determine the pattern of consumption of street food and beverages in schools for SAD children in Nyogan Village. Subjects and Method: This was a qualitative study with a phenomenological design conducted in Nyogan Village, Muaro Jambi Regency. Several information was selected for this study included: children, parents, community leaders or traditional leaders, school principals, teachers, neighbourhood leader, village heads, village midwives and public health center officer. The inclusion criteria were consumption pattern of food and drink snacks for SAD children at school. The data were collected by in-depth interview and analyzed using Miles and Hubberman’s model. Results: Children with SAD who go to elementary school in trans social areas in Nyogan Village like food and drink snacks. The most commonly consumed snack foods are sausages, sticky and grilled meatballs, thousand fried rice, candy, rice cake. At the same time, the most widely consumed snack drinks are present ice, juice jacket, glass tea, okky jelly drink, and ice cream. The reason is that only these types of food and beverages are available and cheap. SAD children in Nyogan Village rarely eat local snacks, such as fried sweet potatoes, that used to be consumed. There are concerns regarding the safety of snack foods and drinks suspected of having “chemical content” that is harmful to children health in these snacks. The cleanliness of the place of snacks and personal hygiene of food handlers are factors related to food and beverage snacks’ health. The Health Officer or public health center never conducts counseling on snack foods’ safety and is not regularly supervised. Conclusion: The consumption pattern of food and drink snacks for children with SAD in trans-social areas has changed. They consume snacks that are sold around the school. However, these foods and drinks are not guaranteed safety. Education and supervision are needed for food vendors or handlers in schools so that SAD children improve their health.
