Abstract:
Color image segmentation is very important in the field of image processing as it is commonly used for image semantic recognition, image searching, video surveillance or other applications. Although clustering algorithms have been successfully applied for image segmentation, conventional clustering algorithms such as K-means clustering algorithms are not sufficiently robust to illumination changes, which is common in real-world environments. Motivated by the observation that the RGB value distributions of the same color under different illuminations are located in an identical hyperline, we fo

News websites struggle tailoring news stories to divergent needs of online news users. We examined a way to bridge these needs by representing sources in hypertext. News items were designed to be short and concise, with hyperlinks citing sources. Readers could either ignore hyperlinks or explore additional information from the hyperlinked sources. We expected that appreciation for these news stories would be moderated by personal characteristics, namely hypertext comfort and desirability of control. Color histogram-based trackers have obtained excellent performance against many challenging situations. However, since the appearance of color is sensitive to illumination, they tend to achieve lower accuracy when illumination is severely variant throughout a sequence. To overcome this limitation, we propose a novel hyperline clustering based discriminant model, an illumination invariant model that is able to distinguish the object from its surrounding background. Furthermore, we exploit this model and propose an anchor based scale estimation to cope with shape deformation and scale variation.

By advocating an approach to interface design based on the work of Suchman and her observation that actions are situated in the particular circumstance in which they occur, this thesis argues that the simple hypertext abstractions of the Web page and the hyperlink prevent the system from revealing the Internet technology below. An investigation into WWW use shows that this seamless hypertext abstraction is very rarely sustained in practice. Users struggle to explain dynamic system disturbances and fail to prevent worthless hyperlink activations. The investigation reveals the problems that user

The attraction of hyperlink-based interaction as a model for information retrieval has long been recognised and has increased in popularity with the mainstream emergence of largescale hypermedia systems such as the World-Wide Web (WWW). For hypermedia systems to realise their full potential, researchers have postulated that such systems should exhibit sophisticated, knowledge-based personalisation and adaptation (P&A) features, without which users’ information retrieval goals are less likely to be achieved. Usual networks lossily (if not incorrectly) represent higher-order relations, i.e. those between multiple entities instead of a pair. This calls for complex structures such as hypergraphs to be used instead. Akin to the link prediction problem in graphs, we deal with hyperlink (higher-order link) prediction in hypergraphs. With a handful of solutions in the literature that seem to have merely scratched the surface, we provide improvements for the same. Motivated by observations in recent literature, we first formulate a "clique-closure" hypothesis (viz., hyperlinks are more likely to be formed
