AbstractThe claim that article four of Thomas Aquinas’s De unione verbi incarnati is a reversal of his consistently held single esse position is challenged in this paper. The article argues that reading all five articles of the De unione as a single-structured argument discloses a single esse understanding of the Incarnate Word. The very nature of the radically hypostatic union between God and man in Christ is at stake in this dispute. According to Thomas, positing a second esse in Christ not only contradicts the tradition, especially of the Christian East, that he appropriates, but it would also compromise the reality of the hypostatic union itself.

Abstract:
Hypostatic is derived from the original language of Scripture (Heb. 1:3) which brought the essential person of Jesus in his human and divine natures. Hebrews describes Jesus as superior to all other beings and all other claims. The doctrine of the hypostatic union teaches that our Lord’s divine nature and His human nature were united forever. He is different from the rest of humanity in that He is God and sinless and his unique theanthropic person of the universe. Despite the various opposing objections that attempt to criticize or disprove Jesus Christ’s two natures (divine and human) his obedience to God’s will even to the point of death shows Jesus’ divinity and humanity working together in perfect harmony. The basic idea that Christ is hypostatically communicating with both divine and human energies is also experienced by believers when their humanity is energized by the Holy Spirit and able to speak to God. In conclusion, the explanation of the anthropic unity of the person of Jesus Christ is quite clear that Jesus has both a divine will and a human will. The union of Christ’s divine and human natures are related to His acts as an incarnate person through His experience as a result of his person of Christ.

Abstract:
The hypostatic or personal union (enosis ipostatiki) is the wreath and the bond between man and God. The consequences of the hypostatic union form the object of most of the hymns from the cultic treasure of the Eastern Church. The theandric person of our Saviour Jesus Christ is intrinsically present under one form or the other in all the hymns of our Church. Kenosis represents one of the consequences of the hypostatic union and a profound expression of God’s supreme love for mankind. The Orthodox teaching - both in dogma and in divine service - is against a radical kenosis that would nullify the sense of Jesus’ Embodiment as overflowing of the divine energies in the world and in mankind.

Orthodox Christology has affirmed ontologically the full humanity and full deity in the one Person Jesus. The problem of how these two natures could practically function still exists. The New Testament—predominantly the Synoptics—reveals a Jesus who experienced limitations and finiteness. He, furthermore, did not perform supernatural works out of his inherent deity but by dependence on the Father and empowered by the Holy Spirit. However, he did not divest his deity or his attributes of deity but curtailed their exercise. Jesus was unique as the Son of God and a prophet who enjoyed an intimacy and special status with the Father. Therefore, Jesus is a realistic model for his disciples on how to live in dependence on the Father and empowered by the Holy Spirit to proclaim the Kingdom of God and minister in the supernatural as he did.

Torrance’s sacramentology is characterised by the unequal collaboration of divine agency and human agency. The sacraments of the Church derive their content and significance from the act of God through the incarnate Word (the primary Sacrament), and through the sacraments of the Church, Christ himself ministers to his Church. Ultimately, this collaborative sacramentology is conditioned by its being framed within the conceptual structure of the hypostatic union, which Torrance holds to be the normative example of the divine-human relationship. The hypostatic union thus provides the necessary unitive framework for sacramental theology. Within this unitive frame, Torrance presents baptism and the Eucharist as ecclesial acts which have their presupposition and content in the act of God in Jesus Christ.

Although recent scholars have attempted to recuperate the cultural and literary value of Francis Quarles' Emblemes, traditional emblematic interpretations categorize the images as merely illustrations of the poetic utterance. The investment of this paper shifts critical attention away from the content of Quarles' text as the only source of meaning and argues that meaning is contingent on the interpretation of both word and image. In order for the images of the text to have full consideration, I have stepped away from the traditional emblem metaphor of body and soul in favor of an incarnational metaphor that joins image and word in a hypostatic union of interpretation.

Abstract:
The doctrine of the mediation of Jesus Christ in the scientific theology of T.F. Torrance rests on the fundamental scientific axiom, derived from the natural sciences, that knowledge is developed in accordance with the nature (kata physin) of the object as it is revealed in the course of scientific inquiry. As a theological realist, Torrance finds real and accurate knowledge of God in Jesus Christ. To know God through the incarnate Son, who is “of one nature with the Father” (homoousios to Patri), is to know God in strict accordance with God’s nature and hence in a theologically scientific way. Scientific theology will operate on a christological basis, for the incarnation of Jesus Christ is the “controlling centre” for the Christian doctrine of God. Torrance’s holistic theology investigates its object of inquiry within the nexus of “onto-relations,” or “being-constituting” interrelations, that disclose its identity. Because the fundamental aspects of reality are relational rather than atomistic, a scientific theological approach to the doctrine of the mediation of Jesus Christ requires that he be investigated within the nexuses of interrelations that disclose his identity as incarnate Saviour of the world. An examination of Torrance’s doctrine of mediation reveals three specific nexuses of “onto-relations” that disclose the identity of Jesus Christ. These are his interrelations with 1) historical Israel, 2) God, and 3) humanity. In the present thesis, the vast and scattered array of Torrance’s thought on the mediation of Jesus Christ is reduced to a minimal number of basic concepts, or “elemental forms,” that arise from the nexuses of interrelations that constitute the identity of the incarnate Son. These basic, constitutive concepts of Torrance’s doctrine of the mediation of Christ are the Nicene homoousion and the Chalcedonian doctrine of the hypostatic union, as well as the doctrines of incarnational redemption and the “vicarious humanity” of Jesus Christ. These elemental forms provide a basic, organising framework to examine and explain the mediation of revelation and reconciliation of Jesus Christ in the scientific theology of T.F. Torrance.

The thesis aims to provide a critical assessment of Camilo Torres' concept of efficacious love in the light of a hermeneutics and ethics of liberation, to contribute theoretically to theological reflection upon the mission of the Protestant and Roman Catholic churches in Colombia, and generally in Latin America. It proposes the thesis that the theology of Camilo Torres, viewed from the perspective of a hermeneutics and an ethics of liberation, can be foundational for seeking, constructing, and sustaining peace with justice in a context of oppression and violence. Based on the theological analysis, the academic and spiritual motivation should respond to two fundamental questions in our academic inquiry: what foundation exists in Camilo Torres' theology for the construction of a just, peaceful, liberative society and to enable proximity to the excluded, victimized, and poor population in Colombia to be achieved? And how can we as Christians respond to the grace of God in living efficaciously the values of the Kingdom of God, in order to bring structural changes in Colombia? The implications of the answers to those questions would result in the possibility to execute an integrating theological proposal for peace with justice for the church in Colombia. In an interpretative mode, we consider critically the multidisciplinary interaction of some of the theological foundations of liberation theology. Our task consists in clarifying and constructing theological presuppositions for a dialectical examination of the historical and current situation in Colombia, viewed in the light of the internal problems and realities. Thus, it is our intention in order to attempt a significant interdisciplinary juncture, to examine and interpret such relevant concepts as efficacious love, faith with works, kenosis, hypostatic union, hermeneutics and ethics of liberation, social justice, personal and collective socio-political conversion, and a praxis of faith as the church's mission in response to the Colombian context of poverty and violence.

This master's thesis is dedicated to the theological disputation upon the using of the title Theotokos for Virgin Mary that had been finally resolved at the Third Ecumenical Council in Ephesus in 431 AD. The first part deals with the crucial moments of deepening theological knowledge in the Church history in order to show a development of the disputation mainly in the 3rd and 4th century. Although Christology wasn't the main theme of the teachings of the Church in that early period some of the theologians especially Irenaeus, Origen, Paul of Samosata and Apollinaris of Laodicea also raised some issues in the field of Christology. The end of the first part offers an inside into the theological mindset of both sides of the disputation - Diodorus of Tarsus and Theodor of Mopsuestia on the one side and the Orthodox fathers Athanasius, the Cappadocian Fathers, Didymus the Blind and John Chrysostome on the other side. The second part presents the written sources of the disputation and offers an insight to its beginning and development. The third and main part focuses on the correspondence between Cyril of Alexandria and Nestorius mainly on their Second Epistles containing the major topics of the disputation. It discusses a content of these two epistles and also analyses and compares theological arguments of both...

No presente texto, partindo da afirmação de que o ser humano é, desde a sua origem, um ser religioso, procura-se fundamentar a existência da disciplina de EMRC, como resposta aos desafios contemporâneos da iliteracia religiosa, da ausência de sentido e do pluralismo. Depois de uma reflexão cuidada sobre a Prática de Ensino Supervisionada, a partir da história do dogma e da Tradição, apresentando Jesus como libertador e inspirado pela Palavra de Deus, procurase traduzir o conceito teológico de salvação como libertação. Deste modo, afirma-se que as aulas de EMRC devem ser humanizadoras, recentrando-se na hermenêutica bíblica e procurando traduzir para uma linguagem contemporânea conceitos teológicos complexos. Conclui-se, por isso, que a salvação que Jesus realiza e oferece é a libertação do ser humano e a concretização plena da sua vocação para ser livre.
The present text, based on the assertion that the human being is, from his origin, a religious being, seeks to justify the existence of the EMRC discipline, in response to the contemporary challenges of religious illiteracy, lack of meaning and pluralism. After a careful reflection on the Supervised Teaching Practice, starting from the history of dogma and Tradition, presenting Jesus as liberator and inspired by the Word of God, we seek to translate the theological concept of salvation as liberation. In this way, it is affirmed that the classes of EMRC must be humanizing, refocusing on biblical hermeneutics and trying to translate complex theological concepts into a contemporary language. It is concluded, therefore, that the salvation that Jesus accomplishes and offers is the liberation of the human being and the full realization of his vocation to be free.

Contemporary Orthodox theology has developed two ways of conceptualizing theosis: one in terms of the essence-energies distinction and the other in terms of the hypostatic union. This essay incorporating the thought of Panayiotis Nellas builds on the hypostatic model to conceptualize theosis as a Christification. This Christocentric focus allows for an understanding of theosis that not only makes man divine but also fully human. This theotic anthropology also allows for a better integration of theosis with ecclesiology, sacramental theology, and ascetical spirituality, than an essence-energies model.

The sounds of our hands and feet on objects, materials and architecture itself, allow us a high knowledge of them if we have the precise sound education. For this reason, this workshop of touching architecture is proposed, where each participant must learn how to generate sounds, how to listen carefully, and how to interpret the results, concluding on the composition of the analyzed materials themselves, their isostatic or hypostatic union structures, the existing constructive pathologies (if applied to experts), etc. In short, applying something as old as “touching” and thereby observing how the different structures, pavements and cladding of architecture sound and resonate when touched, pinched or percussed. Los sonidos de nuestras manos y pies sobre los objetos, los materiales y la propia arquitectura, nos permiten un alto conocimiento de ellos si disponemos de la educación sonora precisa. Por ello se plantea este taller de tocar la arquitectura, donde cada participante debe aprender cómo generar los sonidos, cómo realizar la escucha atenta, y cómo interpretar los resultados, concluyendo sobre la composición de los propios materiales analizados, sus estructuras de unión isostática o hipetestática, las patologías constructivas existentes (caso de aplicarse a periciales), etc. En suma, aplicar algo tan antiguo como “tocar” y observar con ello cómo suenan y resuenan las diferentes estructuras, pavimentos y revestimientos de la arquitectura al ser tocada, pinzada o percutida.
