Abstract:

Introduction: Cigarette smoking is a prime risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Chronic smoking results in autonomic dysfunction leading to increased cardiovascular risk in smokers. The present study was planned to study the effect of smoking on the Cardiovascular Autonomic Functions among smokers. Materials and Methods: Fifty male subjects who were in the age group of 25 to 45 years. They were grouped into 25 smokers and 25 non-smokers. The participant subjects were selected among the staff members, residents and the patients from the routine OPD in SVIMS. Prior to study, they were informed about the procedure and the purpose of the study tests and written consents were obtained from them. The Cardiovascular Autonomic Function Tests were assessed by using a POLYGRAPH which was available in the department. Results and Conclusion: After applying the ‘t’-test for the difference between the two sample means, it was observed that there was a highly significant difference between the mean values of the BMI(i.e.p<0.01) and the para-sympathetic function tests among the smokers and the non – smokers(i.e.p<0.00). The Resting Heart Rate had significantly increased and the Deep breathing difference, the postural tachycardial index (Response to standing) and the Valsalva Ratio had significantly decreased in the smokers as compared to those in the non – smokers. After applying the ‘t’-test for the difference between the two sample means, it was observed that there was no significant difference between the mean values of the Postural hypotension test (i.e. p>0.05) and that there was a highly significant difference between the mean values of the Sustained handgrip test in the smokers and the non – smokers (i.e. p<0.00). Abstract:

El tema del artículo es la Investigación como Estrategia Pedagógica (I.E.P) aplicada en un proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje en la asignatura de química con estudiantes de media académica de la Institución Educativa Marcos García Carrillo de Bochalema. El objetivo de la investigación fue evaluar el impacto en el fortalecimiento de competencias científicas de Química usando la investigación como estrategia pedagógica (IEP) implementación aplicando una metodología cuantitativa cuasi-experimental. Se realizó la comparación del nivel de competencias científicas: uso comprensivo del conocimiento científico, indagación y explicación de fenómenos, antes y después de la aplicación de la estrategia concluyendo que ésta fortalece las tres competencias científicas en mención, aprobando la hipótesis de investigación mediante la prueba estadística de t-student. Además, se logró identificar los desempeños de los estudiantes relacionados con las competencias científicas durante el proceso implementado.

Abstract:

El objetivo de la presente investigación fue determinar la eficacia del programa “Jugando y pensando voy avanzando”, para desarrollar la noción del número, en estudiantes de 5 años del nivel inicial de la I.E.P “Estrellitas”, ubicada en Santa Anita UGEL N° 06 Ate 2018, en un diseño pre-experimental, con enfoque cuantitativo, en 29 estudiantes. El recojo de información se realizó mediante el instrumento “Guía de observación” (en la condición de prueba de entrada y prueba de salida), validado por expertos y por el análisis estadístico. En la prueba de entrada, el 34,5% se encontraba en inicio, y el 58,6 % en el nivel de proceso; no obstante, este resultado cambió después de la aplicación del programa; en la prueba de salida, el 100% obtuvo el nivel de logro. En conclusión, el programa fue efectivo para el desarrollo de la noción del número.

Abstract:

Este artículo científico determinó la influencia de un programa de convivencia denominado “Valorándonos entre amigos” en la disciplina en el ámbito escolar de los estudiantes de I.E.P. “San Juan” Trujillo 2018.Esta investigación se desarrolló teniendo un patrón metodológico pre - experimental de enfoque cuantitativo. La muestra significativa para este estudio fue 75 estudiantes que constituyen el 30% del total de posibles participantes, los cuales fueron sometidos a los cuestionarios respectivos en dos tiempos: antes y posterior a la aplicación del Programa propuesto “Valorándonos entre amigos “, cuya significación se determinó a partir de la prueba t-Student para muestras relacionadas. Se encontraron resultados favorables posterior a la aplicación del Programa propuesto con resultados de 66, 7%, 61.3%, 62.7% y 68% haciendo referencia a niveles altos en las dimensiones de disciplina escolar, en disciplina asertiva, así mismo en comunicación y de relaciones entre personas, respectivamente y determinándose finalmente una influencia altamente significativa del programa en la disciplina escolar, ya que el nivel de significación de la prueba T resultó p= 0,000< 0,01.

Abstract:

El presente trabajo de investigación de enfoque cuantitativo, de nivel descriptivo, de corte transversal; se realizó con el objetivo de analizar y describir el comportamiento en salud en las dimensiones: ejercicio y actividad física, tiempo de ocio, alimentación saludable, sueño, sexualidad, autocuidado, cuidado médico y adherencia terapéutica, consumo de alcohol, cigarrillo y sustancias ilegales, relaciones interpersonales y, afrontamiento y estado emocional percibido de los estudiantes de primer grado de educación secundaria de la I.E.P. Aplicación del ISPP“Víctor Andrés Belaúnde” – Jaén – 2018. La muestra estuvo constituida por 32 estudiantes de primer grado de educación secundaria. Se utilizó como instrumentos: Cuestionario sobre comportamiento saludable para estudiantes de educación secundaria, basado en el Cuestionario de Estilos de Vida de Varela, Salazar, Lema & Cardona. En los resultados: el comportamiento saludable se ubica de manera predominante en un nivel medio en el 68.7% de los estudiantes participantes. Así mismo, los estudiantes presentan nivel medio en las dimensiones de ejercicio - actividad física y sueño en el 65.6%. En cuanto a las dimensiones sobre relaciones interpersonales y afrontamiento y estado emocional percibido se ubican en un nivel medio en el 68.7% y 71.8% respectivamente. Las conclusiones: el comportamiento saludable se ubica en el nivel de medio a alto. Las mujeres poseen comportamiento saludable ubicado en el nivel de medio a alto en el 65.6% de los participantes. Los estudiantes presentan un nivel bajo en el consumo de alcohol, cigarillo y sustancias ilegales.

Abstract:

Objetivo: Determinar la correlación de las actitudes de los docentes hacia los problemas conductuales de los estudiantes con el clima social escolar en las secciones de 5º y 6º grado de primaria de las I.E.P. Lastenia Rejas, Wilma Sotillo y Hermógenes Arenas. Método: Se trata de una investigación Tipo Básica o Pura, con diseño de tipo descriptivo-correlacional. La muestra estuvo conformada por un total de 366 estudiantes y 14 docentes, a los cuales se les aplicó la encuesta de Actitudes hacia los problemas conductuales de los estudiantes, mientras que la encuesta sobre clima social escolar fue aplicada en los estudiantes. Resultados: Se halló la existencia de un nivel significativo de correlación entre las actitudes hacia los problemas conductuales de los estudiantes y el clima social escolar. Una mayoría significativa (64%) de docentes de las tres Instituciones Educativas en promedio muestra actitudes favorables hacia los problemas de conducta de sus estudiantes. Conclusiones: En términos generales se puede afirmar que la mayoría de los estudiantes del 5º y 6º grado de primaria de las tres instituciones educativas públicas estudiadas en la presente investigación presenta un clima social escolar positivo (57,3%).

Abstract:

El presente trabajo de investigación tiene como objetivo diseñar un plan de comunicación para la difusión de la prevención de cáncer Cervicouterino, en niñas de primaria de la I.E.P. “Sagrada Familia” del distrito de José Leonardo Ortiz. Esta investigación es cualitativa, ya que se realizó entrevistas a los padres de familia de estas niñas, fueron escogidos a través de un muestreo no probabilístico, por conveniencia. Siendo validadas previo a su aplicación mediante juicio de expertos. La muestra la conformaron 15 madres de familia, que tienen hijas en los grados de 4to, 5to y 6to de primaria, esta población coincidió bajo conocimiento de las medidas preventivas primarias del cáncer de Cuello Uterino. A partir del diagnóstico se refleja la necesidad de proponer un plan de comunicación, que influya en asumir una cultura de prevención ante esta enfermedad, como también sensibilizar a las madres de familia y a sus hijas de la gravedad a la que se están exponiendo por falta de conocimiento. En consecuencia, las estrategias comunicacionales propuestas para la prevención del cáncer de Cuello Uterino son a través de la comunicación interpersonal y los nuevos medios digitales que combatirán principalmente con el tabú de que las niñas aún no están en edad de recibir esta información.

Abstract:

The purpose of the study was to identify the problems faced by exceptional children at primary level in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. All the government institutions for persons with disabilities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa constituted the population of the study. The study was delimited to physically handicapped students only. The study was further delimited to seven government institutions for persons with disabilities. From each institute, five teachers and ten students were randomly selected. The study was descriptive in nature therefore a single questionnaire was developed as research instrument for the collection of data. Data was collected through personal visits. After collection of the data, it was organized, tabulated, analyzed and interpreted. Percentage and chi square were applied for the statistical treatment of the data. After statistical analysis of the data, the researchers concluded that curriculum was not designed to meet the needs of special children. Special children were not being taught according to Individualized Educational Programme (I.E.P). Basic educational facilities were not available. Mobility aids were not present in the institutions. Therefore it is strongly recommended that special children should be taught through individualized educational programmes to strengthen their educational attainment. Curriculum should be designed according to the needs of the special children. Mobility aids i.e., crutches, wheelchairs, artificial limbs etc should be provided to each special education institution on priority basis. Abstract:

El objetivo de la presente investigación fue determinar la eficacia del Programa: “Pukllaspa Ñawinchani” para mejorar la comprensión de lectura de los estudiantes de cuarto grado de Educación Primaria de la I.E.P. Nº 38542/Mx-P. de San Rafael, Socos, Huamanga, Ayacucho, 2017. Se usó el diseño pre-experimental, con enfoque cuantitativo. La muestra estuvo conformada por un total de 9 participantes. El recojo de la información fue efectuada a través de un instrumento “Guía de análisis de textos” (pre prueba – post prueba), validado por expertos y para el análisis estadístico se utilizó el programa Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), versión 24.0 y la hoja de cálculo Excel. Los resultados obtenidos en la prueba “T”de student demostraron que existen diferencias significativas (p<0,05), entre la aplicación del programa y la comprensión de lectura, dado que, en la pre prueba, el 55,6% de los estudiantes se encontraban en el nivel inicio, y el 44,4% en proceso; no obstante, este resultado cambió después de la aplicación del Programa “Pukllaspa Ñawinchani”, porque en la post prueba el 22,2% se ubicó en el nivel proceso, el 77,8% en el nivel logro y ninguno en el nivel inicio. Lo que es una clara evidencia del valor instructivo del programa aplicado, en aspectos de mejoramiento de la comprensión de lectura.

Abstract:

El artículo se refiere a la inadecuada participación en actividades escolares y extraescolares limitante del sentido de pertenencia en los docentes de la I.E.P. LAS PALMAS como problema. Las causas que originan el problema, evidencian la necesidad de ahondar y explorar el proceso de formación de valores como objeto. El objetivo fue la elaboración de una estrategia de formación de valores: responsabilidad y asertividad, basada en la dinámica del proceso, para el mejoramiento del sentido de pertenencia de los docentes. La estrategia consta de 3 etapas, Primera etapa: cultura organizacional, Segunda etapa: factores motivacionales, Tercera etapa: actitudes y percepciones. La muestra estuvo conformada por el total de docentes a tiempo completo y parcial en los tres niveles, así como los profesores coordinadores de cada nivel educativo; siendo la investigación no experimental, el instrumento utilizado fue el cuestionario y la entrevista, para el análisis del resultado se utilizó el programa estadístico Spss. En cuyos resultados se encontró: deficiente orientación Didáctico – Metodológica de los directivos, insuficiente capacitación en los docentes, limitaciones prácticas en el desarrollo del proceso de formación de valores en los procesos sustantivos de la institución educativa. Los métodos científicos utilizados fueron de nivel teórico (análisis-síntesis, inducción-deducción, histórico-lógico, sistémico-estructural-funcional) para la caracterización de los antecedentes teóricos e históricos del proceso de formación de valores y su dinámica y la construcción del aporte practico. La validación de la estrategia se realizó mediante el juicio de expertos.

<p>Se ha realizado la investigación en la I.E.P. Mariscal Castilla (Colegio mixto) de la Provincia de Huancayo, distrito de El Tambo, que puede ser considerada muestra representativa de la población adolescente, la adolescencia cobra gran significación por los múltiples y complejos cambios físicos, cognitivos y psicosociales que ocurren en esta etapa, como consecuencia, la sexualidad influye significativamente en el modo de vida de los adolescentes y repercute en la problemática de salud que puede aparecer en ese momento o en las sucesivas etapas del ciclo vital. Resulta impostergable, por lo tanto, considerar la sexualidad en el contexto de la salud integral de los adolescentes, por la repercusión que tiene en el estilo de vida, e incorporar como estrategia de intervención la educación de la sexualidad tempranamente y en el marco de la promoción y prevención continua de salud a través del ciclo vital. Las variables estudiadas fueron sexo, con quién viven, edad de inicio de las relaciones sexuales, con quién ha debutado sexualmente, medios de la adquisición de la información de métodos anticonceptivos conocidos, acerca de sexualidad. Los resultados obtenidos mostraron una disminución de la edad de inicio de las relaciones sexuales; la edad preponderante es sobre los 15 años de edad, pero se observa en porcentajes menores que ya existe iniciación de un acto sexual con otra persona, ya sea hombre o mujer, indiferentemente en menores de 13 a 14 años con un 30% de los encuestados. En cuanto a los métodos anticonceptivos conocidos el que ocupa el mayor porcentaje es el condón y la abstinencia sexual, Los estudiantes. Una de las conclusiones a la que se llegó es que la principal vía de obtener los conocimientos acerca de sexualidad es mediante el colegio, familiares, amigos, personal de salud e internet.Se ha realizado la investigación en la I.E.P. Abstract:

En el presente artículo se plantea un estudio de caso descriptivo, en el cual se establece un análisis comparativo del grado de especificidad que presentan dos microciclos de entrenamiento pertenecientes a dos equipos de diferente nivel competitivo (profesional vs. formación). Para ello, se ha construido un novedoso instrumento de evaluación del grado de especificidad que presentan las tareas, sesiones y microciclos de entrenamiento en el fútbol, denominado Escala de Especificidad del Entrenamiento en el Fútbol (E.E.E.F.), fundamentado en una interpretación más amplia y compleja del concepto de especificidad: sincrónica, contextual y funcional (Castelo, 2009; Vales, Arce, Miñano & García, 2012; Vales 2012). Su estructura interna se configura a partir de cuatro niveles de especificidad: bajo, moderado, elevado y máximo, en base a la aplicación de tres índices de medida originales: Índice de Especificidad de las Tareas (I.E.T.), Índice de Especificidad de las Sesiones (I.E.S.) e Índice de Especificidad de los Microciclos (I.E.M.). Los datos obtenidos ponen de manifiesto que los modelos de entrenamiento aplicados por ambos equipos analizados se desarrollan bajo unas pautas metodológicas caracterizadas por una especificidad media-alta, observándose un mayor grado de especificidad en las tareas, sesiones y microciclos de entrenamiento en el equipo profesional (5,2 puntos ± 2,3), en comparación al equipo de formación (4,3 puntos ± 0,4). En su conjunto, los resultados registrados pueden considerarse relevantes para futuros estudios de intervención, así como para el establecimiento de estrategias optimizadoras de los procesos de planificación del entrenamiento en fútbol.Abstract. This paper presents a descriptive case study, which establishes a comparative analysis of the level of specificity between two microcycles carried out by two teams at different competition level (professional versus in-formation). A new instrument, the Specificity of Football Training Scale (SFTS), was created for assessing tasks specificity, sessions and training microcycles in football. SFTS is based on an broader and more complex interpretation of the concept of specificity: synchronous, contextual and functional (Castelo, 2009; Vales, Arce, Miñano & García, 2012; Vales 2012). Its internal structure is conformed by four levels of specificity: low, moderate, high and maximum, based on the application of three original measurement indices: Specificity Index of Tasks (SIT), Specificity Index of Sessions (SIS), and Specificity Index of Microcycles (SIM). Data show that training models applied by both teams are developed under methodological guidelines characterized by a medium-high specificity, the professional team showing greater degree of specificity in training tasks, sessions and microcycles (5,2 ± 2,3 points) compared to the in-formation team (4,3 ± 0,4 points). Our overall results can be considered relevant for future intervention studies, as well as for establishing strategies to optimize football training planning processes.

Abstract:

Among all deaths, 40-50% are due to vascular events and out of these 10% aredue to stroke. More than 66% of the global stroke occurrence is in developing countries, wherethe average age of patients with stroke is 15 years less than in developed countries. Objectives:To determine the correlation between higher total cholesterol level and high Barthel Indexscore(estimate of functional daily independent activity level) in patients with acute ischemicstroke. Design: Cross sectional study. Period: May 2013 to Apr 2014. Setting: Medical Units ofDHQ and Allied Hospital, Faisalabad. Methodology: Sample size of 200 patients was collectedand patients were included through Consecutive (non-probability) sampling technique. Allpatients underwent CT scan Brain from the radiology department of the hospital to determinethe respective changes (hypo dense area) of the ischemic stroke. Fasting serum cholesterolwas measured in all patients after an overnight fast of 12 hours. Then patients were assessed byusing Barthel Index score (BI). The data was analyzed by using SPSS version 16.0. SpearmanRank correlation coefficient was calculated to BI score in patients with ischemic stroke. Results:The mean age of the patients was noted as 61.76±11.55 years. In this study 55.50% weremales and 44.50% patients were females. The mean total cholesterol value of patients wasnoted as 251.58±71.15 mg/dl. Out of 200 patients, 111(55.5%) patients had high cholesterol(>200mg/dl) whereas 89(44.5%) patient had low cholesterol of(<200mg/dl).In statical analysisthe results showed that the mean value of total Barthel index score was 57.50±19.52. The studyresults described that 51.50% patients had high Barthel index score (>53) whereas 48.50%patients had low Barthel index score (<53). Spearman correlation coefficient was calculatedbetween high TC and high BI score as r= 0.641. This value was statistically significant i.e.p-value=0.000*. Conclusions: With the help of this study, we found a significant positiverelationship between high TC and high BI score in patients presented with ischemic stroke.Now we can better prognosticate the functional outcome of ischemic stroke in our patients.

La técnica fue la observación directa y el análisis documental, el instrumento fue la ficha de recolección de datos, y para el análisis se empleó el porcentaje y la media. Los resultados más relevantes fueron: En la I.E.I. Privada Nº 235 Internacional Elim el 92,2% de la muestra estudiada, tuvieron una calidad de lonchera “Buena”, en la I.E.I. Privada Nº 235 Internacional Elim el 82,8% de la muestra estudiada, obtuvieron un rendimiento académico de “A”, en la I.E.I. Privada Nº 235 Internacional Elim, al analizar los alimentos presentes en las loncheras se tiene que en un 96,7% tienen alimentos naturales, en la I.E.I. Privada Buenas Nueva de Salvación se pudo encontrar, el 57,8% de la muestra estudiada, tuvieron una calidad de lonchera “Buena”, en la I.E.I. Privada Buenas Nueva de Salvación, el 51,1% de la muestra estudiada, obtuvieron un rendimiento académico “B” y en la I.E.I. Privada Buenas Nueva de Salvación, al analizar los alimentos presentes en las loncheras se tiene que en un 94,2% tiene alimentos empacados.

Abstract:

Bob Smillie, a volunteer with the Independent Labour Party (I.L.P.) contingent in the Spanish Civil War, died while held prisoner by the Republican side in Valencia in June 1937. His death, officially due to appendicitis, has been consistently treated as suspicious, not least by his comrade-in-arms George Orwell in Homage to Catalonia. This article re-examines the circumstances surrounding Smillie's death, using the papers of the I.L.P. businessman David Murray who was in Spain attempting to secure his release. Murray accepted the ‘official version’ of Smillie's death by natural causes – and defended it doggedly within I.L.P. circles – despite those who advanced views to the contrary. The article examines Murray's evidence in reaching his conclusions, and concludes that the I.L.P.'s response to Smillie's death reveals much about its precarious position within British politics in the late 1930s.

Abstract:

The effects of carteolol 2% and a fixed combination of carteolol 2% and pilocarpine 2% (CBS 341 A) eye-drops on intraocular pressure (I.O.P.) were compared in a multicenter double-blind, cross-over prospective trial. Twenty-eight patients were initially selected after at least three weeks of carteolol 2%, with a morning I.O.P. greater than 21-mmHg. They received 2 drops a day (b.i.d.), in a random order, alternating two weeks of carteolol 2% alone or two weeks of CBS 341 A. After each two-week period a 12-h I.O.P. curve was plotted. Compared to carteolol the combination reduced I.O.P. on average by around 20% (4 mmHg), with maximum effect 4h after instillation. The effectiveness was confirmed after twelve hours. Some side effects were reported with CBS 341 A, due to the well known pharmacological effects of pilocarpine. The new combination could be useful for second-line therapy in glaucoma.

Three fractions of rye-grass (Lolium perenne) pollen extract have been isolated by preparative isoelectric focusing (i.e.f.) and characterized in terms of physicochemical and immunochemical properties. The purified components were designated ‘R7’ and ‘R14’ on the basis of their positions in relation to other rye-grass pollen extract components on SDS/polyacrylamide-gel electrophoresis and their apparent molecular masses were assessed as 31 and 11 kDa respectively. On i.e.f., R14 split into two components, one acidic (pI 5.0) and one basic (pI 9.0), termed ‘R14a’ and ‘R14b’ respectively, and R7 focused at pI 5.8. R7 and R14a were shown to be allergenic by skin-prick test and all three components were recognized by rye-grass-pollen-specific human IgE. On SDS/polyacrylamide-gel electrophoresis and i.e.f., R7 behaved in a manner identical with that shown by an authentic sample of Rye I and gave an amino acid analysis similar to published data [Johnson & Marsh (1966) Immunochemistry 3, 91-100] for Rye group-I isoallergens; the amino acid sequence of the first 27 N-terminal amino acids was also determined. Physicochemical analysis revealed that R14a was equivalent to Rye II and 14b to Rye III. Preparative i.e.f. followed by gel-permeation chromatography proved to be a rapid and efficient method for purifying the allergenic components of Rye I (R7), Rye II (R14a) and Rye III (R14b) from rye-grass pollen extract.

Alguns procedimentos descritos na literatura (ultrasom, água destilada, NaOH, TRITON x 100 e congelamento-descongelamenao) foram avaliados determinando o melhor extrato antigênico para a reação de hemaglutinação indireta (RHI) no diagnóstico sorológico da doença de Chagas. Para isso, foram ensaiados 30 soros de indivíduos chagásicos e 30 soros de indivíduos não chagásicos. A reação de imuno-fluorescência indireta foi considerada como reação de referência no cálculo dos indices de co-positividade (i.c.p.) e co-negatividade (i.cn.). O valor do i.c.p, para a RHI com antígeno obtido por NaOH foi mais elevado do que para os outros antígenos. Os cinco antígenos apresentaram valores máximos para o i.cn., indicando boa especificdade. Os títulos apresentados pelos soros chagásicos com antígeno obtido por NaOH foram, significativamente, superiores aos demais antígenos. A avaliação de cinco partidas de antígeno extraídas por NaOH em épocas diversas indicam boa sensibilidade, especificidade e reprodutibilidade de resultados, traduzidas pelos valores elevados para os i.c.p. e i.cn., além de títulos próximos entre si.

OBJETIVO: Determinar la tasa de mortalidad materna reciente en el I.M.P., estudiar sus características y compararlas con el quinquenio anterior en la misma institución. DISEÑO: Estudio descriptivo simple retrospectivo de todos los casos de muerte materna (73) en el I.M.P. entre 1991 y 1995. RESULTADOS: La tasa de mortalidad en el I.M.P. es de 62,9 por 100,000 nv. La principal causa de muerte es el aborto séptico (23,3%). La segunda causa corresponde a las enfermedades hipertensivas con 13 casos (17,8%). En tercer lugar con 12 casos las hermorragias (16,4%). Las causas obstétricas indirectas (21,9%), tienen un buen porcentaje de tuberculosis. Cuarenta y seis pacientes fallecieron antes de las 48 horas de permanencia (63%). CONCLUSIONES: La tasa de mortalidad ha disminuido ligeramente en relación al quinquenio anterior, en 1994 y 1995 alcanzó tasas de 35,8 y 48,3 por 100,000 n.v. Las causas prevenibles superan la mitad de los casos y, en este sentido, se debe tomar las medidas correctivas.

Two analogues of bovine growth hormone (BGH) have been produced in Escherichia coli by recombinant DNA techniques. In analogue Delta-1, the N-terminal alanine residue of the full-length bovine sequence is replaced by methionine. In analogue Delta-9, which is expressed at much higher levels than is Delta-1, the full-length bovine sequence is truncated at the N-terminus by eight residues and there is a serine-for-glycine substitution in the first position of the truncated protein. Both analogues, which were characterized by isoelectric focusing (i.e.f.), polyacrylamide-gel electrophoresis in the presence of SDS (SDS/PAGE), amino acid analysis and N-terminal amino acid sequence determination using combined g.l.c.-m.s., are compared with BGH isolated from pituitaries. In contrast with pituitary-derived BGH, the recombinant-derived proteins are homogeneous on SDS/PAGE and on i.e.f. In a radioimmunoassay, a radioreceptor assay and a bioassay in vivo (rat tibia), Delta-9 BGH showed very similar characteristics to the pituitary-derived hormone. Similar results have also been obtained with the Delta-1 analogue.

Neben klinischen Interviews zur klassifikatorischen Diagnostik werden Fremd- und Selbstbeurteilungsverfahren zur Dokumentation psychopathologischer Symptome dargestellt. Die beschriebenen Verfahren berücksichtigen sowohl psychotische Phänomene i.e.S. (Wahn, Halluzination) als auch Lebensqualität, Krankheitseinsicht und soziale Folgen der Erkrankung.

Abstract:

Para aprimorar a sensibilidade e a especificidade da reação de hemaglutina-ção indireta no diagnóstico da doença de Chagas, foram utilizados eritrocitos sensibilizados com antígeno de epimastigotas de diferentes amostras (clones Al.7, B12, Cl e cepas D150 e Y), de tripomastigotas metacíclicos de cultura (TMC) e de tri-pomastigotas de cultura de células (TCC) do Trypanosoma cruzi. Foram titulados 132 soros de indivíduos chagásicos e 161 soros de não chagásicos, diagnosticados pela reação de imunofluorescência indireta (RIFI), considerada como reação de referência no cálculo dos índices de co-positividade (i.c.p.), co-negatividade (i.c.n.) e concordância. Utilizando o título discriminante (T.D.) de 1:40, os antígenos da cepa Y e do clone B12 apresentaram valores elevados para os três índices calculados, indicando boa sensibilidade e especificidade em relação à RIFI. Os antígenos dos clones Al .7 e Cl apresentaram baixa especificidade considerando o T.D. de 1:40, mas ocorreu um aumento acentuado para o i.c.n. considerando o T.D. de 1:80, indicando um aumento de especificidade relativa sem alteração significativa da sensibilidade relativa. Com os antígenos T.M.C, e T.C.C, foram observados títulos mais baixos e valores menores para o i.c.p., indicando pouca sensibilidade em relação à RIFI.

Abstract:

The objectives of this study were to assess both the predisposing and precipitating risk factors in the aetiology of any form of cancer among hospital workers at two teaching Hospitals in Osun State, Nigeria. Pre-tested and modified questionnaires were administered to 250 respondents. One hundred and seventy questionnaires were duly filled and completed. Less than 9% of the respondents consumed fruits and vegetables on a daily basis; while the highest percentage (65%) regularly consumed butter/margarine, followed with consumption of red meat. Twenty nine percent (29%) from both locations were classified as overweight and obese. Half did physical exercise twice a week. Of the 168 respondents, 34 (20.2%) did meet the criteria for completely emptying their bowels within a specified time of three minutes. It is concluded that whilst predisposing risk factors do not pose a threat to the onset of any form of cancer among respondents, precipitating factors are real major factors that need to be addressed through information, education and communication (I.E.C). Such an I.E.C. should be geared towards promotion of healthy eating and life style strategies. After all, ‘the first step in cancer prevention is knowing the risk profile’.
