Abstract:
An attempt was made to replicate earlier studies which have found a relation between waking creativity and dream bizarreness. Two-week dream diaries were collected from 126 undergraduates and the dreams scored for bizarreness using Auld's Primary Process Scale and Kluger's Everydayness Scale. Subjects were also administered four commonly used tests of creativity as well as a test of vocabulary knowledge. Dream bizarreness was found to correlate significantly with scores on some but not all the tests of creativity. However, bizarreness correlated most highly with subjects' level of vocabulary knowledge. Furthermore, partial correlations of creativity test scores with dream bizarreness were not statistically significant when subjects' level of vocabulary knowledge was controlled for. The authors conclude that the connection between waking creativity and dream bizarreness has not been convincingly demonstrated, and that earlier researchers may have found an association between the two because they failed to control for subjects' verbal intelligence and for dream report length. Data is also provided concerning the relation of creativity to dream recall frequency.

The speech “I Have a Dream”, delivered by Martin Luther King, has echoed throughout the world over the years for political, social and religious reasons. Despite being a deeply studied text, this dissertation aims to approach it within the scope of a hermeneutical analysis of the discourse, seeking to better understand its pertinence and adequacy, both at the time of its pronouncement and in the present day. In its original context, Luther King's speech points to the struggle against racial segregation and the exclusion of civil rights of black Americans. The manner in which the speech and the objectives of the March for Rights and Labor were presented took over the US capital city with people aggrieved for suffering segregation and sensitive to this intolerant attitude. For this, this dissertation, as it aims a Hermeneutic Analysis of the Discourse, recovers historical, social, political and religious contexts. The present study also makes intertextual connections to other Luther King’s conferences, as well as with several moments in which the presence of the text of the Sacred Scriptures can be recognized. Finally, under a contemporary view, this research verifies the current relevance of the theme of "I Have a Dream", a discourse that is constantly re-contextualized and whose theme is always urgent.

Abstract:

"I Have Dreamed a Dream..." is an analysis of the three short stories "Mr Skelmersdale in Fairyland", "The Door in the Wall" and "A Dream of Armageddon" by H.G. Wells. The essay makes a comparison of the three short stories from the perspectives of the dreamland, the inner struggle of the protagonist and the message of the story. The purpose is to show that the three seemingly similar short stories have different outcomes and deliver different messages to the reader. The essay finally presents a theory of how these messages coincide despite their differences.

"Jag har drömt en dröm..." är en analys av de tre novellerna "Mr Skelmersdale in Fairyland", "The Door in the Wall" och "A Dream of Armageddon" av H.G. Wells.

Abstract:

Exploring the theme of Diaspora, this paper is an accompanying document for the documentary, A Dream Lost in Dream. It sheds light on the purpose, and process of producing this documentary. The main purpose for the production of this documentary has been described as initiation of healthy and casual dialog between diverse populations in America. It emphasizes the importance of creating visual media targeting masses rather than the elite. It is argued that it can act as a tool of awareness, reducing anxiety in the society. It also embarks on the production journey of the documentary A Dream Lost in Dream. The film is a portrayal of an East Indian immigrant struggling between economic survival, family issues and passion to fly.

Abstract:
AbstractLooking for your Dream provides a second tool to help you build your business model in this first stage of the Business Model Template (BMT). You have previously indicated which major social and/or ecological issues you want to solve. Now you will determine what the result of that solution could be. Look for a solution that goes beyond just tackling one issue. The Dream building block demands thinking big: it is a Big, Hairy, Audacious Goal (BHAG) on which you are going to work. How and why will your business model idea really make a difference? In order to not get lost in thinking about dreams, you could make use of various tools such as scenarios, metaphors or framing, all of which are addressed in this chapter. Putting all the steps in this chapter together, you will have dreamed up something big that you want to go for.

Abstract:
Compliant aircraft, with a range of deformations comparable to birds, has been a dream for many years. Earlier aviation pioneers tried to replicate aspects of bird flight, but higher air speeds and larger payloads have required aircraft design to deviate from their biological inspiration. The design of conventional fixed wing aircraft can only be optimized for a limited region of the flight envelope; mechanisms such as deployable flaps and wing sweep are used extensively to enlarge this envelope. The development of more accurate analysis tools, advanced smart materials, and the increasingly demands for improved aircraft performance, are driving research into compliant morphing aircraft. These aircraft have the potential to adapt and optimize their shape to improve flight performance or achieve multi-objective mission roles. However this technology has rarely been adopted on production aircraft. This paper will critically review the progress made to date on compliant morphing aircraft research, and summarize the challenges that need to be addressed before such technology can be adopted widely. In particular the need to demonstrate system level performance benefits for morphing technology is emphasized.

Full text
Abstract:
This is a position paper. Although modular design is getting wide attention these days, most of the discussions and applications are focused on efficiency, cost reduction, etc., which has been regarded important in the traditional product development or in the producer’s framework. Their focus is how they can prepare wider variety with less time, money and energy. They believe if a wide variety of products are offered. the customer would select the one that would fit them best. Thus, not too much attention is paid to the customer expectations. The current producer do not sell dreams. They just increases the choices. This can be compared to what animals are doing. Animals can use tools, but these tools are found in nature. Animals do not make tools, but humans do, because humans can see the future, while animals cannot. Engineering is an activity to satisfy customer dreams. In this sense, the current industry is not achieving what engineering is supposed to achieve. In addition, as human needs step up, humans would like to actualize themselves. But in the earlier or lower step, their needs are products so products satisfy them. But when they step more and more upward, they find value in the processes. So products alone will not satisfy them enough. They would like to make their dreams come true by themselves. Thus, how we can get customers involved in the production becomes important. In short, we have to consider how we can mix high tech and low tech and work them harmoniously. Some modules needs high tech. Thus expertise is needed. But others can be developed and produced by customers. Then, customers will be very happy because they are players in the game and they feel they themselves are developing a product to realize their own dream. Of course, personal fabrication technology can be used for this purpose. But theirs and my idea are basically different. Their idea is to produce a product by ourselves. But the approach proposed here is focused on our industrial products. The issue here is how we can bring our customers into our product development, which current industries are practicing. If we can design a product, which is composed of modules which needs high tech and expertise and those which can be produced with low tech, then we can bring our customers into low tech and low expertise module production. Although customers are not producing the whole product, they feel happier because they are now making their dream come true themselves. Thus, industries can sell processes. And it should be stressed that this is not a reconfigurable design. The low tech and low expertise modules are really produced by our customers. They do not select modules to produce a product as we do with Lego. This design of mixture of low tech module and high tech module serves for globalization as well. Some developing countries cannot produce high tech modules, because their resources are not enough. But if some modules can be produced with low tech, then they can produce them locally and that will increase employment and the market will expand.

Abstract:
Due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, college tours are no longer available, so many students have lost the opportunity to see their dream school’s campus. To solve this problem, we developed a product called “Virtourgo,” a university virtual tour website that uses Google Street View images gathered from a web scraper allowing students to see what college campuses are like even when tours are unavailable during the pandemic. The project consists of 3/4 parts: the web scraper script, the GitHub server, the Google Domains DNS Server, and the HTML files. Some challenges we met include scraping repeated pictures and letting the HTML dropdown menu jump to the correct location. We solved these by implementing Python and Javascript functions that specifically target such challenges. Finally, after experimenting with all the functions of the web scraper and website, we confirmed that it works as expected and can scrape and deliver tours of any university campus or public buildings we want.

One goal of the EU project DREAM is to analyse the flow through a TMTF and a downstream arranged counter rotating LP rotor. The investigation of these complex interrelationships has been performed in the unique two-spool continuously operating transonic test turbine facility at Graz University of Technology. The test setup consists of an unshrouded HP stage, the TMTF and a shrouded LP rotor. The shafts of both turbines are mechanically independent, so the test rig allows a realistic two shaft turbine operation. The TMTF flow field is highly complex. It is a turbulent and unsteady flow dominated by strong secondary flows and vortex-interactions. The upstream transonic high pressure turbine stage produces a complex inflow with high levels of turbulence, stationary and rotating wakes and vortical structures. Therefore the application of advanced measurement techniques is necessary. To describe the HP-TMTF interaction time-resolved pressure measurements have applied within the project. The TMTF was instrumented with 10 fast response pressure transducers; static pressure tap recordings on the strut and on the TMTF end-walls have been also applied. Five hole probe, total pressure and total temperature rakes have been additionally acquired in the planes just in front of the struts and downstream to evaluate the performance of the TMTF. The results of these conventional techniques are presented in this work and they represent the necessary starting point for the evaluation and the description of the flow field. The idea is to start the study analysing the mean quantities and the overall performance of the two stages for different conditions and to leave the analysis of the time-resolved results for further investigation. Detailed investigations will start from the data presented in this paper; indeed, the use of unsteady measurement techniques is time consuming and cannot be performed for such a large amount of flow conditions, radial planes and HP vane - TMTF relative positions. Three operating conditions for different clocking positions have been considered. The variation of the operating conditions has been achieved by varying the HP shaft velocity and pressure ratio, with a consequence change of pressure ratio in the LP rotor. For this analysis the LP shaft velocity was kept constant. The TMTF performance variations will be analysed in terms of total pressure loss coefficient and exit flow angle; the mean interaction between the structures coming from the HP stage and the struts will represent the interpretation key to explain these variations. This work is part of the EU project DREAM (ValiDation of Radical Engine Architecture SysteMs, contract No. ACP7-GA-2008-211861).
