In this thesis we show the results of first-principle calculations for two nanostructured materials with adjustable electronic properties. We studied two diferente systems: in the first system, BCN layers and nanotubes, we consider the positional disorder of the B, C, and N atoms, using a combination of first principles and simulated annealing calculations. During the annealing process, we find that the atoms segregate into isolated, irregularly shaped graphene islands immersed in BN. In this thesis, we study theoretical and experimental aspects of the Gouy phase in matter waves. We show that this phase is related to the covariance between position and momentum and can be indirectly extracted from interferometric experiments. Next, we analyze a diffraction experiment with macro-molecules realized by Zeilingers group [1] and we show that the existence of a Gouy phase is compatible with those experimental data. Bipolaritons são formados pelo acoplamento forte entre fótons e biexcitons presentes no poço quântico de GaAs dentro da microcavidade. Através de medidas de fotoluminescência, foi possível mostrar que a emissão de bipolaritons acontece quando dessintonizamos a cavidade com relação a energia do éxciton. We study numerically the pattern selection process in the Swift-Hohenberg equation with periodic boundary conditions. Two approaches were used for analyzing the emergence of the pattern: counting defects as a function of time and the determination ofthe dominant mode in Fourier space selected by the system, starting from diverse initial conditions. Cadmium Sulfide (CdS) and Copper Sulfide (CuxSy) nanoparticles were successfully grown on Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes (MWCNT) via a simple chemical reaction. The CdS-MWCNT samples were produced with different parameters such as temperature and time of the reaction. The samples were characterized with Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Energy-Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS), Selected Area Diffraction (SAD) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD). In this work, we perform first-principles calculations based on the Density Functional Theory (DFT) to study structural and electronic properties of TiO2 nanotubes. Firstly, we address structural aspects. For this purpose we consider a model in which the nanotubes are obtained by rolling up layers of anatase TiO2 oriented in the (001) direction. The stability of the resulting structures are investigated by comparing the strain energy of the nanotubes with the surface energies of TiO2 nanoribbons. Utilizamos Espectroscopia Raman ressonante como uma ferramenta para estudar nanotubos de carbono alinhados verticalmente. Através de padrões de ressonância dos espectros obtidos a partir de diversas linhas de laser montamos um gráfico de Kataura experimental que cobre uma ampla região de diâmetros (0,7 a 2,3 nm) e energias de transição (1,26 a 2,71 eV). Conseguimos estabelecer experimentalmente as energias de transição (Eii) e as freqüências do modo radial de respiração (wRBM) para 94 nanotubos, sendo 21 nanotubos metálicos e 73 nanotubos semicondutores. The interferometers are semiconductor devices based in GaAs/AlGaAs heterojunctions where a high mobility two-dimensional electron gas is formed. The electron gas is confined in a small region of dimension comparable to its Fermi wavelength. In this work we studied thick films of CdS. The samples have been prepared by screen printing and sintering process in air and nitrogen, in the temperature range of 500 °C a 700 °C We used X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) to characterize the films. The films sintered in air present oxidation for temperatures higher than 600°C. The samples sintered in nitrogen do not present oxidation in the temperature range studied. All the films are strained. In this work we have studied the electrical conduction between localized states in samples with dierent volumetric densities of carbon-black, a kind of granular carbon. Firstly, we have shown that the Mott's variable range hopping (VRH) model t our data in a large range of temperatures. At low temperatures, we can see a deviation to a larger exponent, which seems to be the one from the Efros-Shklovskii's VRH, due to the Coulomb interactions between the charge carriers. However, the crossover between the both regimes is not clear: there is a temperature range which is tted by the both exponents

Starting from a simple model for the persistent current on a clean one-dimensional ring in the presence of an homogeneous magnetic field, we show the properties of that current in the ideal case, without disorder, for both a plane and a M¨obius-like geometry. We also show how to treat disorder and calculate the averaged current for an ensemble of isolated mesoscopic, quasi one-dimensional metal rings with a weak disorder. In this work, we present the results of the atomic geometry determination of the clean Au(110)-(1x2) surface and with the adsorption of antimony by Low Energy Electron Diffraction (LEED). The Au(110)-(1x2) clean surface presents a reconstruction called missing row, which consists of an alternated removed atomic rows of the surface. In our LEED analysis, we found a large relaxation of the first layer, and a buckling in the third and fifth layers and also a pairing of atomic rows in the second and fourth layers, confforming the results found in the literature.
