Abstract:
The aim of these article is to present the more important rules of Jewish exegesis developed mainly by Hillel on the example of a commentary on the Song of the Songsof Abraham Ibn Ezra and Luis de León. The text tries to show how traditional Jewishhermeneutics is used in the innovative commentaries of a scholar from Tudela from the XIth century and a theologian from Belmonte from the XVIth century and how the first infl uenced the second. Interpretative methods developed in the most important centers of Judaic thought of the beginning of our era have been used for centuries to explain biblical texts, especially such as Song of Songs, which is recognized by both Old Testament and New Testament commentators as one of the most diffi cult and most mystical Scriptures.

Abstract:
Perhaps no one figure is more responsible for the legitimization of kabbalah as an authentic esoteric tradition of Judaism than Moses ben Nahman (1194–1270). Although from the beginnings of its literary history kabbalah was associated with men of rabbinic standing, such as R. Abraham ben David of Posquieres, no one before Nahmanides had attained a reputation for excellence in halakhic and mystical matters and had written extensively in both domains. Nahmanides' involvement with kabbalah, especially in the context of a commentary on the Torah written for the layman, as the author plainly states in his introduction, surely lent a stamp of approval to the whole enterprise. R. Shem Tov ibn Gaon in hisBaddei ha-'Aron u-Migdal Hananelgave the following characterization of Nahmanides' kabbalistic literary activity:The great rabbi, Moses ben Naḥman, may his memory be for a blessing, wrote his book [i.e., the commentary on the Torah] and a book [on] Job. He alluded to hidden matters in every place () to arouse [people's awareness] as is appropriate and according to what he received. However, he concealed his words to a high degree, for it is written, “Honey and milk are under your tongue” (Song of Songs 4: 11).

Abstract:
In a well-known story, ʿUmar Ibn al-Fāriḍ appears to ʿUmar al-Suhrawardī in Mecca during the Hajj with good news from the Unseen world. The two Sufi masters later meet again, and al-Suhrawardī invests Ibn al-Fāriḍ’s sons and others with the khirqah, or Sufi robe. Despite the wondrous elements in this account, new evidence suggests that much of this story is true. The proof texts are two poems by Muḥammad Ibn al-Khiyamī, and they underscore the value of poetry, particularly the ikhwāniyyāt, or verse exchanged between friends and colleagues, as a vital source for the social history of Islamic mysticism at that time.

Abstract:
Iraq in the tenth and eleventh centuries witnessed a flowering of Shiite cultural production with lasting effects on the Islamic sciences such as law, hadith, theology, and Qur'anic commentary. The works of al-Shaykh al-Mufīd (d. 413/1022), al-Sharīf al-Murtaḍā (d. 436/1044), and al-Shaykh al-Ṭūsī (d. 460/1067) not only broke significant new ground in Shiite intellectual history and defended Shiite doctrinal positions against opponents, but also set parameters for production in these fields that would remain in effect, grosso modo, until modern times. During the same period, Shiite authors made substantial contributions to fields not directly related to Shiite religious doctrine, playing a crucial role in elaborating and preserving Islamic heritage in general. Al-Masʿūdī's (d. 345/956) famous history Murūj al-dhahab and Abū al-Faraj al-Iṣfahānī's (d. 356/967) collection of songs, poetry, and associated lore, Kitāb al-Aghānī, are prominent examples of Shiite authors' contributions to general Arabo-Islamic cultural production. Arguably yet more important is the Fihrist, composed in Baghdad in 377-378 ah/987-988 ce by Ibn al-Nadīm, an Imāmī Shiite bookseller. This work, a comprehensive catalogue of Arabic book titles, is widely recognised as one of the most important sources for the history of all learned disciplines recorded in Arabic in the course of the first four Islamic centuries. As a consequence, the present understanding of entire swaths of Islamic intellectual history, including the rise and development of Muʿtazilī theology and the translation of the Greek sciences into Arabic, is heavily indebted to a Shiite author.

Khwāja Muhammad ibn Sadīq ibn Muhammad Kujujī or “Kujūjānī” (d. Dhū-hijja 677/April, 1279), as Hamdu'llāh Mustawfī Qazwīnī called him, was a Sufi master whose sons later occupied the post of Shaykh al-Islām in Tabriz under the early Jalā'irids, the Tīmūrids and early Safavids. Born in 614/1217–18, Kujujī's life coincides with the commencement of Mongol rule in northern Persia under Chingiz Khān in 1219, the conquest of Tabrīz in 1220 by the Mongols, the later subjugation of all of Persia under Hülegü (1256–65) and the reign of his successor Abaqa Khān (1265–82).

Abstract:
«Songs of Ascents» (Psalm 120-134) is a collection of fifteen Psalms. An interpretation of this title in popular Psalter commentaries relates the origin of this group of Psalms to the return from Exile and the subsequent pilgrimage to the Temple for major religious feasts. The author of the article aims to verify the validity of this popular interpretation in such authoritative sources of Jewish religious tradition as Mishnah, Tosefta, Jerusalem and Babylonian Gemara, Targum on the Psalms, Midrashim, works of Saadiya Gaon, Rashi, Abraham ibn Ezra and David Kimchi. To achieve the goal of the research, the context of the phrase תולעמה ריש («song of ascents») in the mentioned sources was analyzed. The study showed the expression «song of ascents» did not have the same interpretation in the sources of the same period. Later sources show dependence on earlier ones, but it is impossible to conclude that there was unanimity in Jewish tradition regarding the origin of this superscription. So, it’s possible to conclude that the historical causes for this superscription were forgotten before the written fixation of Jewish exegetical tradition had begun. Consequently, the subsequent associations of the inscription «song of ascents» with the return from captivity or pilgrimage to Jerusalem were born intuitively and were more connected with the liturgical goals of using the psalms after the destruction of the Second Temple, than with the penetration into the real historical origin of the title.

Hussein, Ali Ahmad. "Elegy and Nasīb in the Ancient Arabic QAṢīda: The Unique Structure of an Elegy by Ibn Muqbil." Journal of Semitic Studies 64, no. 2 (August 23, 2019): 507–33. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/jss/fgz012.

Abstract:
Abstract This article analyses the functions of the uniquely non-traditional structure of an elegy composed by the mukha.ram poet, Ibn Muqbil, following the assassination of the third Muslim caliph, ‘Uthmān b. ‘Affān. The poem begins with the elegiac verses, then ends with a description of several, to some degree, erotic love affairs. Classical Arab scholars condemned this structure, in which the song of love follows the weeping over a killed religious authority. In the present article, the poem is analysed then two interpretations of the function of this structure are given: firstly, it provides the poem with an allegorical expression for Ibn Muqbils yearning for the lost pre-Islamic life which was destroyed after the birth of Islam; secondly, it is a means of catharsis directed to a specific audience which was less passionate about the death of the caliph.

Abstract In the late 11th century, two mysterious “Roman” embassies visited China and offered tribute to the Song Dynasty. This paper seeks to reopen the argument surrounding the identity of the Roman embassies. The question enjoyed intense discussions in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, before interest waned thereafter. Relying on a broad range of underused sources, this paper re-assesses the two most widely acknowledged theories that associate the embassies with the aims of the Byzantine pretender Nikephoros Melissenos and of the Seljuk prince in exile Sulaymān ibn Qutlumush.

Abstract:
This paper is an investigation of the divine feminine power as depicted in the texts of Hispanic mystics from Sufi, Hebrew, and Christian traditions. This work is intended to investigate the origin and subsequent development of a transcendent reconciliation of polarity, its diverse manifestations, and the attainment of a common goal, the quintessential of the Perfect Human Being. The architect of the encounter that leads to Union is “Sophia”. She is the Secret. Only those who are able to discern Her own immeasurable dimension may contemplate the Lady who dwells in the sacred geometry of the abyss. Sophia is linked to the hermetic Word, She is allusive, clandestine, poetic, and pregnant with symbols, gnostic resonances, and musical murmurs that conduct the “traveler” through dwellings and stations towards an ancient Sophianic knowledge that leads to the “germinal vesicle”, the “inner wine cellar”, to the Initium, to the Motherland. She is the Mater filius sapientae, who through an alchemical transmutation becomes a song to the absent Sophia whose Presence can only be intuited. Present throughout the Creation, Sophia is the axis around which the poetics of the Taryuman al-ashwaq rotates and the kabbalistic Tree of Life is structured.

Abstract:
This research aims to examine the law of music in the review of Islamic law by comparing the opinion that forbidding the music especially from Shafi’i and opinion that allowing the music especially from Ibnu Ḥazm. This research used library research methods with comparative analysis approach. The results found some important findings. First, Ibn Hazm argued that the law of all things that have no clear evidence of it is permissable, including music. There are many flaws in the hadiths and aṡar that are expressed by scholars who forbid music, including the weakness of the mustard and the use of the word in narration that raises doubts in it. Second, Shafi'i allows certain instruments under certain circumstances such as tabla instruments used during war, not for something that neglects such as singing. Shafi'i hates acts that neglect a person from the Qur'an such as listening to a song even though there is a remembrance of Allah. There is a contention or comment from the scholars to Ibn Ḥazm who doubts the validity of Bukhari as a reliable hadith. Third, the differences in scholars on this matter are specific to Ibnu Ḥazm and Shafi'i's views, not including disagreements that allow a person to choose an opinion that he believes based on the evidence he has heard from both. This is because there has been clear evidence of cancelling one of the views of both. In this case, Ibn Ḥazm's opinion of the hadith which he thought was weak turned out to be a valid hadith and agreed upon by most scholars.

Abstract:
The article follows the main stages in the development of Riyadh — the capital of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The history of Riyadh is viewed in the context of the history of traditional Arabian cities and the new urban centers of Arabia. The great role of the creator of Saudi Arabia, King Ibn Saud and his sons in the development of the capital is indicated; in particular, the innovations of the current King of Saudi Arabia Salman ibn Abdel Aziz, who was the governor of Riyadh for about half a century. It was under Abdel Aziz that a large-scale reconstruction of the city began, as a result of which the city acquired its modern features. In addition, the article describes the layout of the city, shows its functions as the capital’s political, financial, economic and cultural center of the kingdom. Particular attention is paid to the modern architecture of the city, represented by the tower of the Radio Center, the water tower, the Faisalia towers and the “Center of the Kingdom (Burj al-Mamlaka)”. The author concludes that the city justifies its name, which in Arabic means “gardens”, differing from other cities by the presence of squares and parks with green lawns, greenery, and date palms.

Umayyah Dynasty was built by Mu‟awiyah Ibn Abu Sufyan and had monarchy system for its government which led by fourteen Khalifa (Leaders). Science had been built in its era by developing libraries in all areas, whether in cities or villages; building the first formal school in primary level; translating greek and roman books into Arabic; and prospering teachers and ulama‟. But, unfortunately this era had to end because of many rea-sons which found by historical proofs. Abstract:
When «Less Than Zero» was first published in 1985, Bret Easton Elli could not imagine that bis novel was going to become a bcst-seller. This novel is set in Los Angeles, it is a powerful portrayal of a generation of young people who have experienced sex, drugs, and disaffection at an carly age.</p><p>"Less Than Zero" (Elvis Costello's title of a bitter song), narrates the experience of a young student who comes home to Los Angeles for Christmas vacation and its narrator, Clay, tells us how his holiday turns into a dizzing spiral of desperation, that takes him through parties, rock clubs, co-kaine nes, neon lights, and the underworld of pornography. His observation of life comes with youth and money. Sometimes, the evidence narrator keeps away from his youthful American alienation; others he shares its experiences through a direct, constant, and dry style. In general, we can point out that the protagonist narrator of "Less Than Zero" observes what's happcning around him without taking any determing part. In relation to this new trend of the American narrative of the 1980s, there is the so called "Dirty Realism". The characters who inhabit this low-life ambience are everyday guys who may be a bit down on their luck. But in general the stories are full of men and women whose lives are troubled or just plain empty being difficult for them to communicate themselves with society. Things never turra out well... at best, not badly. However, theirs is not to re-bel or explode, the overwhelming sensation is one of resignation, they are people who ask very little out of life.</p>

Abstract:
Theological discourse in Nusantara is always associated with two varieties of Ash‘arīsm and Māturīdīsm. Nevertheless, Ash‘arīsm became the dominant theological discourse for Muslim people of Nusantara at least since the seventeenth century—or more—which brought by ‘Ulamā’s. There are some obscurity concerning the history of Māturīdīsm about the carriers and teachings developed. Thus it is oſten assumed that the theological discourse that developed in Nusantara since Islam entered and developed just an Ash‘arīsm and ignored other theology [Māturīdīsm]. This study would prove that Māturīdīsm developed along with the development of Ash‘arīsm through the global networks of the Nusantara ‘Ulamā around theological discourse in the Muslim world. This study attempts to provide the justification of Māturīdīsm that developed in Nusantara as well as provide a new perspective about method of theology for Muslim people of Nusantara. The focus of this study is to explore the intellectual treasures of ulama’s works in Nusantara who lived in the period of the seventeentah until nineteenth centuries. This study concludes that theological discourse in Nusantara is a continuous form of global theological discourse that developed in the Islamic world, where the emerging theological discourse always associated on two varieties of Ash‘arīsm and Māturīdīsm which later became known as Sunnīsm. In this context, the discourse of Māturīdīsm developed in Nusantara is seen as a method of thinking that is in tune with the tradition of Sunnīsm which emphasizes the elements of moderation and balance in theology. Abstract:
Iban pop music came into existence in the late 1950s when Radio Sarawak recorded a few tracks for public entertainment. The objectives of this research were to identify the hyperbole features and analyse the aspects which construct the meanings of hyperbole in the lyrics of the Iban pop music from 1970s to the 21st century. This research employed the qualitative method using the descriptive approach. Document analysis and checklists were the two research instruments. The findings of the research indicated that the hyperbole features in the lyrics of the songs encompass the quantity, characteristic and measurement aspects. The elements which constructed the implicit meanings in the hyperbole were nature, human, plants, animals, culture and unliving things. The quantity features of hyperbole incorporated in the Iban pop song lyrics were low in the 70s but kept increasing from the 80s to the 21st century. The quantity features were not widely used in the 21st century and measurement features in lyrical compositions were low in the 80s until the 21st century. The element of characteristic was commonly used in the 80s to the 21st century. Cultural elements were widely incorporated in lyrics composition as compared to plants. As a conclusion, the features and elements were used depends entirely on value, surrounding and living situation of the Iban community. The implication of the study can be used as guidelines for composers to improve their skills in writing Iban pop song lyrics and uplift the future of Iban music industry in general.

Abstract:
This article examines the Iban oral literature (traditions) of the Iban society which includes fables, folklore, legends and myths that are orally transmitted and learned but continue to exist in oral form until the end of the 20th century. The objective of this article is stress the importance of oral literature in the Iban society because it is in this vast and incredibility beautiful literature that the cosmology of Iban society is revealed, and through this also the other people can perceive the soul of Iban culture. However, the Iban oral literature is very fragile as it remains in the memory of the elder generation who are rapidly dying out, and it may not survive long under the conditions of modernization. Therefore, the Iban society must preserve this oral literature in order to maintain its roots to the past as well as their dignity. Yet, this oral literature is critical for anthropological study because it provides information about the traditional Iban life. This article shows that, although the Iban lived in relatively isolated farming communities, they had the time to let their creativity expand and reveal or reflect the nature of their lives, their sorrows and joys, and their relationship through songs and chants, folklore, myths and legends, fables, stories and epics as well as riddles and sayings. This implicates that there is indeed an urgent need for immediate action to recover the dying oral literature because there is a sharp decline in the numbers of ritual specialists who can interpret the metaphors and words in the complex and aesthetic oral literature which contributes to the vast and accumulating universal knowledge of culture and traditions. It is significant to suggest that the Iban society must treasure their oral literature and translate these traditions before it is too late or dying out, as well as keeping it safe for them to appreciate and enjoy, otherwise this oral literature will be swallowed by the era of modernization in the Iban society itself.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Sarawak has developed significantly since its decision to unite with Malaya and Sabah in 1963. However, after five decades since forming Malaysia, the development of Sarawak appears to be imbalanced with huge gaps in development between urban and rural areas, especially among communities in the interior. The physical and socioeconomic conditions in these rural and interior areas are underdeveloped, as they are either less successful or have not been seen to have achieved their potential. This paper will discuss findings from our research on development aspirations among the Iban in the interior of Sarawak. This study applies the Development Theory by Sen (1999) which proposes development as a means of freedom to analyse the development aspirations of the Iban using the case study approach in three longhouses in the interior. The research findings document the wide gap between Iban communities in the longhouses and those living in cities. These gaps include exclusion from infrastructure development such as having access to 24-hour electricity supply and the lack of paved roads. Fundamental issues discussed are those regarding their aspirations for development and exploration of customary land in the areas of research.

Abstract:
In the beginning, Islam came to Indonesia peacefully. Islam entered Indonesia through acculturation spesifically in Java in the hands of religious leaders called Wali Songo. Opposite to that way, the Wahhabi‟s teachings who wanted to purify Islamic religion lead by the prophet and his companions period makes Islam in Indonesia become exclusive. The Wahhab‟s teachings which is in contrast of Islam Nusantara creates discomfort among all moslems, in particular, followers of NU, the largest Islamic organization in Indonesia. This is what the writer wants to answer by unloading the exclusive Wahhabism and intolerant thinking using the deconstruction analysis by Derrida. Before that, Foucault analysis of power relation will be used to broaden the language meaning dimension that influences language social system that is the background of Wahhabi‟s teaching. Using the deconstruction method, the researcher will unload hierarchical text elements to find new reading result of the existing text to produce a more tolerant meaning. This research is expected to be thinking contribution in solving religious teachings conflicts that root from reading texts exclusively, and to construct awareness among moslems about discourse of relative truth, especially as a new way of reading the texts with exclusive thinking.

Abstract:
Praise be to Allaah and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah. After this, the reason we chose this subject from the Islamic point of view is because this name is related to the time of the Israelites in Surat Al- Israa in the first and last promise as the general interpreters went to it. Hearing a lot, especially in our beloved homeland as an Iraqi of Arab origin of the sons of Sam Ibn Noah took Babylon as his capital, which is part of our dear country. This is what we proved from many ancient and modern sources after a discussion, some of which show that the lineage of Nebuchadnezzar is due to Ham 's son Noah, and that Ham is the father of the Persians. Our main findings are: Nebuchadnezzar is of Arab rather than Persian origin Nebuchadnezzar had been converted to Islam because he was influenced by the prophets of the Israelites. Nebuchadnezzar did not treat the Israelites in captivity badly, but provided them with places where they could earn a decent living despite their constant treachery, but wanted to be under constant surveillance. The importance of this subject lies in making a comparison in the mention of this king in the three monotheistic religions to know what is the origin of Nebuchadnezzar and how he ruled and why the captivity and what impact Nebuchadnezzar on the Jews and the influence of Jews and what was his religion and whether he changed it later to be influenced by the prophets of the children of Israel, and is it His promises in the Koran (the promise of the first and the Hereafter) in a neutral scientific manner. The comparative method was used in this study between the three monotheistic religions as well as the historical method which was based on taking from what the three heavenly books indicated a hint or statement, namely the Qur'an, the Torah and the Bible, as well as Hadith books, exegesis books, historical books and some modern books dealing with this subject.
