Abstract:
We present a strategy for incrementally migrating legacy systems to object-oriented platforms. The migration process consists of six sequential phases and encompasses reverse engineering and reengineering activities. The aim of reverse engineering is to decompose programs into components implementing the user interface and components implementing application domain objects. The identification of objects is centred around persistent data stores and exploits object-oriented design metrics. Wrapping is the core of the reengineering activities. It makes new systems able to exploit existing resources, thus allowing an incremental and selective replacement of the identified objects. The migration strategy has been defined and experimented within the project ERCOLE (Encapsulation, Reengineering and Coexistence of Object with Legacy) on legacy systems developed in RPG for the IBM AS/400 environment.

Abstract:
Introduction: Coronary Artery Calcification (CAC) score may give information in cardiovascular risk stratification asymptomatic individuals. Profiles and distribution of CAC scores are still scarce in Indonesia. This study aimed to evaluate the distribution of CAC based on age and gender in asymptomatic patients. Methods: Subjects were asymptomatic Asian above 40 years-old undergoing cardiovascular check-up, including Computed Tomography (CT) CAC at Siloam Heart Institute, from April 2018 to August 2019. Data were obtained retrospectively and analyzed statistically with IBM SPSS version 22. Results: A total of 1640 patients were enrolled, with males slightly more than half. The mean age was 55,6 ± 9,6 years, with age group of 50-59 years as the majority (35,9%). Almost half of the subjects had zero CAC score. Around two-thirds of females, particularly below 50 years old, had zero CAC scores. CAC scores >400 were more prevalent in males across all age groups. The majority of healthy males had a CAC score between 0-99. There was a positive correlation between age and CAC scores in both genders. Females with CAC score >400 were found mostly after 70 years old, ten years older than males. CAC score >1000 was more prevalent in older males compared to females. Conclusion: The distribution of CAC score is remarkably affected by age and gender. Zero CAC score is found predominant in our subjects. CAC scores of ≥400 are common in males across all age groups. CAC score >1000 is more exclusively found in the elderly male

Abstract:
Since 2018 several FAIR Phase 0 beamtimes have been operated at GSI, Darmstadt. Here the new challenging technologies for the upcoming FAIR facility shall be tested while various physics experiments are performed with the existing GSI accelerators. One of these challenges concerns the performance, reliability, and scalability of the experiment data storage. Raw data as collected by event building software of large scale detector data acquisition has to be safely written to a mass storage system like a magnetic tape library. Besides this long term archive, it is often required to process this data as soon as possible on a high performance compute farm. The C library LTSM (“Lightweight Tivoli Storage Management”) has been developed at the GSI IT department based on the IBM TSM software. It provides a file API that allows for writing raw listmode data files via TCP/IP sockets directly to an IBM TSM storage server. Moreover, the LTSM library offers Lustre HSM (“Hierarchical Storage Management”) capabilities for seamlessly archiving and retrieving data stored on Lustre file system and TSM server. In spring 2019 LTSM has been employed at the FAIR Phase 0 beamtimes at GSI. For the HADES experiment LTSM was implemented into the DABC (“Data Acquisition Backbone Core”) event building software. During the 4 weeks of Ag+Ag@1.58 AGeV beam, the HADES event builders have transferred about 400 TB of data via 8 parallel 10 GbE sockets, both to the TSM archive and to the “GSI green cube” HPC farm. For other FAIR Phase 0 experiments using the vintage MBS (“Multi Branch System”) event builders, an LTSM gateway application has been developed to connect the legacy RFIO (“Remote File I/O”) protocol of these DAQ systems with the new storage interface.

Full text
Abstract:
NRCVAX is a complete system of programs, covering all aspects of crystal structure analysis from data reduction to the presentation of results. The system, which is written in a `neutral' Fortran 77, presently exists in two forms. The first runs on a VAX computer under VMS, on an 80386 PC under UNIX and under IBM VM/CMS and MVS/TSO. The second is an adaptation which runs on PC-XT, AT, PS/2 and comparable microcomputers under MS-DOS. The two versions differ somewhat in structure, but very little in code, operation or functionality except for the graphics. The many options of the programs can be selected in a highly interactive manner and because of this the system is very flexible. Most options are assigned default values, however, and it is usually safe to run the routines with a minimum of user input using the defaults. The system will accept data from a wide variety of sources and has interface routines for several other systems. Graphics in the VAX/UNIX version are based on the widely available Tektronix 4000 series protocol, while the microcomputer version supports most common display adapters. It is also possible to prepare files for a variety of plotters, dot-matrix printers and laser printers. Source code is distributed and it should not be difficult to adapt the system to any computer with virtual memory and a Fortran 77 compiler.

Abstract:
Background: Oral iron supplementation causes gastrointestinal side effects. Short-term alterations in dietary iron exacerbate inflammation and alter the gut microbiota, in murine models of colitis. Patients typically take supplements for months. We investigated the impact of long-term changes in dietary iron on colitis and the microbiome in mice. Methods: We fed mice chow containing differing levels of iron, reflecting deficient (100 ppm), normal (200 ppm), and supplemented (400 ppm) intake for up to 9 weeks, both in absence and presence of dextran sodium sulphate (DSS)-induced chronic colitis. We also induced acute colitis in mice taking these diets for 8 weeks. Impact was assessed (i) clinically and histologically, and (ii) by sequencing the V4 region of 16S rRNA. Results: In mice with long-term changes, the iron-deficient diet was associated with greater weight loss and histological inflammation in the acute colitis model. Chronic colitis was not influenced by altering dietary iron however there was a change in the microbiome in DSS-treated mice consuming 100 ppm and 400 ppm iron diets, and control mice consuming the 400 ppm iron diet. Proteobacteria levels increased significantly, and Bacteroidetes levels decreased, in the 400 ppm iron DSS group at day-63 compared to baseline. Conclusions: Long-term dietary iron alterations affect gut microbiota signatures but do not exacerbate chronic colitis, however acute colitis is exacerbated by such dietary changes. More work is needed to understand the impact of iron supplementation on IBD. The change in the microbiome, in patients with colitis, may arise from the increased luminal iron and not simply from colitis.

Abstract:
With the shift from batch applications to online systems supporting the strategic role of information, corporate or institutional goals tie directly to the information management functions. This has been true at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS). Like many other Government installations, the NPS Computer Center has to meet its objectives with less than state-of-the-art hardware. In the early 1980's, the Center employed IBM's 3850 Mass Storage Subsystem (MSS) for online storage of student and faculty data sets. It was installed in December 1980 and performed well for over six years. Faced with IBM's announcement (in February 1985) of the limited future connectivity and compatibility and the increasing maintenance costs, the decision was made to replace the MSS with hardware/software alternative that would use a more modern and reliable architecture. The objective of this thesis is to define the solution, and data set migration process, and describe the early experience with a multi-level, software-managed, storage system

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to design a simple, efficient, single-user multitasking kernel for real-time applications on the IBM Personal Computer. Since real-time application consists of many tasks and their order of execution cannot be predetermined, it is almost impossible to write a monolithic block of code that can meet the response time of all the tasks. By using multitasking, each task is assigned a priority based on the urgency of its response time. The kernel uses a priority-based preemptive scheduling strategy to select a new task to run, so the highest-priority task can always get to run when it is ready. The Basic Input/Output System of the PC is rewritten to be reentrant so that it can be shared by multiple tasks.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis presents the development of an interactive programming system for the IBM 7545 robot. Various methods of robot programming are discussed, and the reasons for the development of such an interactive programming system are provided. The development of this system was divided into five phases, namely, the development of the pseudo-compiler, development of the "system control" program, integration of ASSEMBLY routines, development of the "motion control" program, and the development of test programs. The approach used for each of these five stages are outlined, and a reference to the use of the system is given. A description of the development of each stage is then given, and the logic associated with all programs are described, and the purpose and operation of all subroutines are also presented. Some assumptions and limitations of the system are explained, and the operational aspects of the system are described. Additional work needed to improve this system is outlined, and the feasibility of using the concept of this system on other robot programming languages on the IBM 7545 robot are also discussed.

Abstract:

The advent of the Personal Computer into the technical world has, at an extremely reasonable expense and trouble, made available to us, considerable computational power. But, as it was with computers, the next logical step is to have multiple units running in concert, or, in other words, sharing the load. This leads to the concept of Multiprocessing in order to attain an enhancement in operation speed and superior efficiency. The IBM PC is a versatile and market proven personal computer with a very large volume of software support and the STD Bus is a standard that has been developed to cope with a variable support, i.e. different processors and different I/O capabilities. Together, they combine the user interface - the display and keyboard · of the PC, the processing capabilities of the PC, the I/O capabilities of the STD Bus and the support processing possible on the STD Bus. The resulting system is powerful, easy to use and it has a lot of scope for development.

Abstract:
Speech recognition allows natural communication between the humansand machines. With Industry 4.0 there is a great demand forsystems that perform this task, since human-machine integrationsare increasingly attractive. Currently, there are several tools and resourcesthat perform this activity, with some companies providingtheir audio recognition services through the Application ProgrammingInterface, such as Microsoft, Google, IBM and Wit. On theother hand, there are offline libraries and open source that can alsobe explored like Vosk. Each company has its business rule and itsspecificity, in this sense it is difficult to know which is the most interestingfor each situation. Thus, a comparison was made betweenspeech recognition services in terms of usability, limitation andprecision. In the comparison, speech recognition performance metricswere used in a set of audios, using the programming languagePython.

Abstract:
One of the well-known results of the theory of management is the fact, that multi-stage hierarchical organization of management is unstable. Hence, the ideas expressed in a number of works by Don Tapscott on advantages of network organization of businesses over vertically integrated ones is clear. While studying the basic tendencies of business organization in the conditions of globalization, computerization and internetization of the society and the results of the financial activities of the well-known companies, the authors arrive at the conclusion, that such companies, as IBM, Boeing, Mercedes-Benz and some others companies have not been engaged in their traditional business for a long time. Their partner networks performs this function instead of them. The companies themselves perform the function of system integrators. The Tapscott’s idea finds its confirmation within the framework of a new powerful direction of the development of the modern interdisciplinary science – the theory of the complex networks (CN) [2]. CN-s are multifractal objects, the loss of multifractality being the indicator of the system transition from more complex state into more simple state. We tested the multifractal properties of the data using the wavelet transform modulus maxima approach in order to analyze scaling properties of our company. Comparative analysis of the singularity spectrumf(®), namely, the difference between maximum and minimum values of ® (∆ = ®max ¡ ®min) shows that IBM company is considerably more fractal in comparison with Apple Computer. Really, for it the value of ∆ is equal to 0.3, while for the vertically integrated company Apple it only makes 0.06 – 5 times less. The comparison of other companies shows that this dependence is of general character. Taking into consideration the fact that network organization of business has become dominant in the last 5-10 years, we carried out research for the selected companies in the earliest possible period of time which was determined by the availability of data in the Internet, or by historically later beginning of stock trade of computer companies. A singularity spectrum of the first group of companies turned out to be considerably narrower, or shifted toward the smaller values of ® in the pre-network period. The latter means that dynamic series were antipersistant. That is, these companies‘ management was rigidly controlled while the impact of market mechanisms was minimized. In the second group of companies if even the situation did changed it did not change for the better. In addition, we discuss applications to the construction of portfolios of stock that have a stable ratio of risk to return.
