Abstract:
This research discusses the ideas of a Muslim sociologist, Ibn Khaldun, on “society’s life cycles and the stage of human reasons”. The main sources of this research are the works of IbnKhaldun, especially the social history part of the Muqadimah. This research employs hermeneutics method as proposed by Garcia. The research found that, according to Ibn Khaldun, the social and political life of society is developed through several steps, which are: badui (barbaric), awakening and civic society (al-thur al bawdy, al-thur al-ghazwy, and al-thur al-hadlary). Meanwhile, the reasons of society is developed through several phases, which are: theology, metaphysics, and positive (al-‘aql al-tamyiz, al-‘aql al-tajriby and al-‘aql al-nadzary).Tulisan ini sedikit memberikan paparan pemikiran tokoh sosiologi Ibn Khaldun tentang “siklus kehidupan masyarakat dan tahapan perkembangan akal budi manusia”.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Abstract In this article, I argue that Intercultural Bilingual Education (IBE) in Peru has turned into a depoliticized endeavor, fed by a modernist national frame and a positivist/ modernist linguistics (García et al., 2017). Situating my discussion amid the context of discourses of IBE, I will focus on Quechua-speaking urban youth activists and the way they challenge three key issues that have been historically entrenched in the discourse of IBE and language diversity in general: the restriction of Quechua speakers to “mother tongue” speakers, the dichotomy between local and global identities, and the defensive stance towards neoliberalism and the market economy. In a context of tensions and challenges for multilingualism and of new circumstances for minoritized languages and their speakers (Pietikainen et al., 2016), these young people are questioning the depoliticized, limiting, and fictitious views of Quechua and Quechuaness from the IBE discourse. Put it differently: they are disinventing Quechua as IBE conceives it and reinventing it within a much more inclusive and politicized project, in a way that should interest educators.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Background:Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which includes Crohn’s disease (CD), and Ulcerative colitis (UC) are related to Spondyloarthritis (SpA). Ocular manifestations (OM) are well-stablished in axial SpA but not in IBD. It has been classically reported that whereas uveitis with axial SpA is predominantly anterior, unilateral, acute, and non-recurrent; in IBD it is bilateral, posterior, insidious, and chronic (1).Objectives:In a large unselected series of IBD, our aim was to assess a) epidemiology and clinical features of uveitis associated to IBD, b) to compare patients who developed uveitis and those who did not, and c) its relationship with biological treatment used in IBD.Methods:Study of all consecutive patients from a single University Hospital during the last 40 years with: a) IBD (CD and UC), and b) uveitis according to Standarization Uveitis Nomenclature (SUN) Working Group. Demographic features, clinical findings, occurrence of other extraintestinal manifestations and treatment were recorded. Results:We studied 1449 (714 women/735 men) patients with IBD, mean age of 55.2±15.9 years.Uveitis was present in 23 (1.6 %) (38 eyes) of 1448 IBD patients. The most common pattern of uveitis was typically anterior (n=18; 78.3%), unilateral (n=19; 82.6%), acute (n=19; 82.6%), and non-recurrent (n=12; 52.2%).The comparative study between patients with and without uveitis showed a significant predominance of women (Table 1) in patients with uveitis, as well as erythema nodosum, hidradenitis suppurativa and joint involvement.Regarding IBD severity, in terms of surgical interventions, and conventional and biological immunosuppressive treatments, there were no significant differences. Conclusion:Although uveitis is more infrequent in IBD than in axial SpA, it is also anterior, unilateral, acute, and non-recurrent in contrast with published data from selected series. Patients with uveitis do not seem to represent more severe phenotype of IBD.References:[1]Lyons & Rosenbaum JT. Also, a non-significative higher frequency in Pyoderma gangrenosum, erythema nodosum and joint involvement was observed in UG.After a mean follow-up of 15.2±9.97 years, extraintestinal manifestations were observed in 100% of patients, being articular forms (n=16; 38.10%) the most common type. In addition, joint/axial flare is more related to the presence of uveitis (p=0.038).Conclusion:Both uveitis and episcleritis are equally frequent OM in IBD. Abstract:
ABSTRACT Although Peru’s Intercultural Bilingual Education (IBE) program has been attempting to pursue new directions, it still carries many ideologies and practices that have defined it since it started half a century ago. In this article, I discuss the way some of these ideologies and practices related to language are reproduced in a preservice teacher training program in one of the capital city’s private universities, which implements a national policy of social inclusion for Quechua-speaking youth from vulnerable contexts. On the basis of diverse dichotomies (L1/L2, Spanish use/Quechua use, Spanish literacy practices/Quechua literacy practices, Quechua speaker/Spanish speaker), the program produces two types of hierarchized subjectivities: one related to the subject educated in Quechua and another related to the subject educated in Spanish, both coming from a conception of languages as discrete codes that go together with fixed ethnolinguistic groups and bounded cultural practices (GARCÍA et al., 2017). In the context of new sociocultural dynamics and bilingualisms, young students in the program subvert these divisions and begin to trace new paths for IBE and Quechua in Perú.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Background:Spondyloarthritis (SpA) is a group of interrelated disorders: axial spondyloarthritis (Ankylosing Spondylitis [AS] /Non Radiographic Axial Spondyloarthritis [Nr-AxSpA]), psoriatic arthritis (PsA), reactive arthritis (ReA), inflammatory bowel disease-associated arthritis (IBD), and undifferentiated SpA (USpA).1Objectives:The objectives of this study were: a) to examine the epidemiology, disease subsets, and clinical characteristics of patients with SpA in Central America and the Caribbean region; and b) to describe the natural history of these conditions in their acute and chronic forms, to determine clinical sub-types and severity. Methods:PRECAES is a cross-sectional observational study, including patients from private rheumatology clinics in three Central American countries (Guatemala, Honduras and Panama) and one in the Caribbean (Dominican Republic).Patients were enrolled between April 25th, 2018 and July 31st, 2019. Inclusion criteria: SpA diagnosis fulfilling ASAS classification criteria, age 18 - 45 years, sign informed consent and willing to perform protocol procedures during a single visit. Exclusions: any other rheumatic diseases, malignancy or HIV.Results:Each center identified 50 consecutive patients with SpA. The main reason for exclusion from this analysis was not meeting the age requirement (N=94). Therefore, we analyzed 25 from Dominican Republic (DR), 25 from Guatemala, 32 from Honduras and 24 from Panama. When applying ASAS axial and peripheral SpA definitions, all countries had high number of AS Patients. Subclinical classification by country showed the most frequent diagnosis was AS (64.1%), followed by PsA (16%), ReA (9.4%), Undifferentiated SpA (7.5%), IBD associated arthritis (1.9%) and Nr-AxSpA (0.9%) (p<0.001); characteristics of patient population and sub-clinical classification by country, Table 1. When clinical manifestations were classified as axial or peripheral SpA, 70.7% were axial in the four countries.Table 1.Patient population characteristics and Sub-clinical classification by CountrySD or ± = Standard DeviationUndifferentiated SpA (USpA), Reactive Arthritis (ReA), Nonradiographic Axial SpA (Nr-AxSpa), (AS), Inflammatory Bowel Disease-Associated Arthritis (IBD), Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA)Time from onset symptoms to diagnosis ranged in years, from 3.15 (Guatemala) to 8.2 (Honduras), among the four countries. BASMI scores were higher in Honduras (mean 5.15) and lowest in Panama (mean 1.61). Of note, the time from symptom onset to diagnosis was also longest in Honduras.NSAIDs and DMARDs were used in most countries. Glucocorticoids were rarely used in this population. Biologics are mainly used in Panama (16%), and Honduras (11%); only 8% of the enrolled patients in Dominican Republic and 2% in Guatemala. Conclusion:The most prevalent SpA diagnosis in the region is Ankylosing Spondylitis. Patient diagnosis is delayed up to 8.2 years and only 2 to 16% of the patients receive a proper treatment with a biologic therapy. This data invites to further investigation and brings opportunity to improve patients care.References:[1]Rudwaleit, M. et al. Abstract:
Several alterations of growth physiology and bulb formation in garlic (Allium sativum L.) crops, such as “rough” and “burst” bulbs, have been related by different authors with low temperatures during bulbs storage and crop development. These physiopathies affect both the yield and the quality of garlic crops. Incidence of such diseases in Spanish garlic (variety “purple of Las Pedroñeras”) were studied during two consecutive years. Experimental design was factorial taking the bulb storage temperature (5°, 10°, 15° and 20°C) as variable factor. Growth indexes during crop development and final quantity of defective bulbs were evaluated. Experimental results show significant differences between treatments, with the higher incidence of both physiopathies in those bulbs stored at 5°C. The 15°C and 20°C storage temperatures clearly reduce the risk of these abiotic diseases and tend to increase the yield and the final quality of the crop.

Abstract:
The contents of major S-alk(en)ylcysteine sulfoxides (namely alliin, methiin and isoalliin) were determined in a set of 58 various garlic genotypes (22 flowering plant morphotypes, 14 semi bolting plants and 22 scape absent morphotype plants), representing the garlic collection of the Allium gene bank in the Czech Republic. The plants were cultivated in four successive years (2005–2008) and analysed immediately after harvest and subsequently after eight weeks of storage at 5°C. The total content of the three cysteine derivatives in fresh samples varied considerably between 3.35 mg/g fresh weigh and 12.77 mg/g fresh weight, with the mean of 7.50 mg/g fresh weight and the average relative proportions of alliin/methiin/isoalliin of 83/16/1. Upon 8-week storage at 5°C, the average total amount of S-alk(en)ylcysteine sulfoxides increased by 30% to 9.75 mg/g fresh weight, with the alliin/methiin/isoalliin ratio changing to 82/14/4. The data obtained were statistically evaluated using linear discrimination analysis to distinguish the differences between the years of harvest, between freshly harvested and stored samples, and between the individual morphotypes. While the year-to-year differences between the samples were statistically not very significant, the fresh and stored samples as well as the individual garlic morphotypes differed considerably in S-alk(en)ylcysteine sulfoxide content. Our results indicate that the content of S-alk(en)ylcysteine sulfoxides primarily depends on various genetic factors and post-harvest storage conditions, whereas the climatic conditions during the growth (e.g. temperature, irrigation) influence their level to a lesser extent. Various implications for the food and pharmaceutical industries are discussed.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Understanding the relation between option pricing and market efficiency is important. Indeed, emphasizing this relation generates new insights that are appropriate in practice. These insights give a better understanding of the current limitations of the option pricing and hedging methods. This article thus aims to improve the performance of the option pricing approach. To start, the relation between the option pricing methodology and the informational market efficiency was discussed. It is, therefore, useful, before proceeding to apply the standard risk-neutral approach, to check the efficiency assumption. New modified GARCH processes were used to model the dynamics of the asset returns in the option pricing framework. The new considered approaches allow describing the dynamic of returns when the market is inefficient. Using real data on CAC 40 index, the performance of different models as a function of maturity and moneyness was studied. The in-sample analysis, interested in the stability of the pricing models across time, showed that the new approach, developed under the affine GARCH process, is the most accurate. The study of the out-of-sample performance, which aims to evaluate the forecasting ability of different approaches, confirmed the results of the in-sample analysis. For the optional portfolio hedging, always the best hedging approach is that obtained under the affine GARCH model. After a regression study, it was found that the difference between theoretical and observed option values can be explained by factors, which are not taken into account in the proposed pricing formulae.

Abstract:
This study is aimed at investigating the volatility dynamics and the risk-return relationship in the South African market, analyzing the FTSE/JSE All Share Index returns for an updated sample period of 2009–2019. The study employed several GARCH type models with different probability distributions governing the model’s innovations. Results have revealed strong persistent levels of volatility and a positive risk-return relationship in the South African market. Given the elaborate use of the GARCH approach of risk estimation in the existing finance literature, this study highlighted several weaknesses of the model. A noteworthy property of the GARCH approach was that the innovation distributions did not affect parameter estimation. Analyzing the GARCH type models, this theory was supported by the majority of the GARCH test results with respect to the volatility dynamics. On the contrary, it was strongly unsupported by the risk-return relationship. More specifically, it was found that while the innovations of the EGARCH (1, 1) model could account for the volatile nature of financial data, asymmetry remained uncaptured. As a result, misestimating of risks occurred, which could lead to inaccurate results. This study highlighted the significance of the innovation distribution of choice and recommended the exploration of different nonnormal innovation distributions to aid with capturing the asymmetry.

Abstract:
This study was conducted to investigate the effects of garlic powder on the performance, egg traits, egg cholesterol and serum parameters of laying Japanese quails. One hundred and twenty 10-weeks-old quails were allocated to four dietary treatments. Quails were caged individually and fed diets supplemented with 0 (control), 1, 2, 4% garlic powder for 12 weeks. There were significant (P < 0.05) differences among the diets in feed consumption, feed efficiency and egg production as averaged over 12 weeks. The better values for these parameters were obtained from the 1% garlic powder supplemented group. Garlic powder addition did not significantly affect egg yolk index, egg shell weight and egg shell thickness. However, there were significant differences (P < 0.05) in egg albumen index, egg shell index and Haugh unit. There was a significant (P < 0.05) reduction in the egg yolk cholesterol concentration when the dietary level of garlic powder was increased from 0 to 4 g/kg. Plasma high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol concentrations increased (P < 0.05) with increasing levels of dietary garlic powder. Plasma cholesterol (P < 0.05) and tri-glyceride (P < 0.05) concentration decreased with garlic powder supplementation. It was concluded that garlic powder in the diet of laying quails reduced the plasma and egg yolk cholesterol concentration.

Abstract:
This study was devoted to distribution of <I>S</I>-alk(en)yl-L-cysteine sulfoxides (particularly alliin, methiin, and isoalliin) in plants of <I>Allium sativum</I> L. and to diversity of selected groups of garlic clones representing the three basic garlic morfotypes (i.e. flowering plants, scape absent and semi-bolters – this classification is based on IPGRI descriptors). The content of <I>S</I>-alk(en)yl-L-cysteine sulfoxides, important non-volatile precursors flavour-active compounds, was determined in four parts (roots, bulbs, false stems, and leaves) of six different clones of garlic (<I>Allium sativum</I> L.) plants collected during the whole of vegetation – in March, April, May, June, and July. The contents of target <I>S</I>-alk(en)yl-L-cysteine sulfoxides were dependent not only on part of garlic plants but also on morfotype of garlic plants and vegetation period.
