Abstract:
Gentamicin (GM) is an aminoglycoside antibiotic commonly used against life threatening gram negative bacterial infections, however, nephrotoxicity remains the major concern for its long term use. Although its effects on kidney are well characterized but there have been no studies regarding its effects on intestine. We hypothesize that GM causes adaptive coordinated effect on enzymes of carbohydrate metabolism and terminal digestion/ absorption in rat intestine. Rats were administerd a nephrotoxic dose of GM (80 mg /kg body weight) daily for 15 days and a time dependent effect was observed on v

The carcass characteristics, meat quality and specific muscle enzyme activity were studied in 342 Merino wether hoggets representing 7 bloodlines comprising 2 superfine lines, 2 fine wool lines, 2 medium wool lines and 1 broad wool line over 2 years. All animals were supplemented at pasture for 5 weeks before slaughter with high energy pellets. Fat levels in the superfine bloodlines based on total tissue depth over the 12th rib, 110 mm from the midline were much greater than in other lines. This also applied to fat depth measured over the longissimus thoracis et lumborum (LL) muscle for one of

BACKGROUND: The regulatory effect of thyroid hormones on the metabolism of the immune system cells (activation of oxidative processes, separation of oxidative phosphorylation and increased protein synthesis) depends on their number. Changes in the activity of intracellular enzymes in Graves disease (GD) can determine the mechanisms of maintaining autoimmune inflammation in relapse of the disease. The exact role of NAD(P)-dependent dehydrogenases in the development and maintenance of immune response in GD is still poorly investigated.

Disorders of intellectual development— or learning disability (LD)— denote a permanent impairment of intelligence associated with limitations of social functioning. A distinction is to be made between LD and dementia, the former originating early in life and the latter after 18 years of age. Although not reversible, much can be done to enable people with LDs to live as normally as possible. It is helpful for doctors to have basic knowledge of LD so they have an approach when the patient presents with physical or mental health problems and know when to refer to psychiatry. Abstract In steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) operations, inflow control devices (ICDs) might provide an extra pressure drop (ΔP) on top of the liquid pool's ΔP. To avoid hot-spot zones, this ΔP design heavily relies on reservoir quality. Flow-loop experiments can provide flow قate measurements versus ΔP for various nozzle designs. Therefore, an efficient ICD design should be investigated in a numerical flow simulation that represents reservoir quality and heterogeneity by employing flow-loop data.
