<p>In this thesis a new technique of modelling non-dimensioning severe weather for power system reliability calculations is developed. The model is suitable for both transmission and distribution networks and is based on geographically moving winds and ice storms. The modelled weather has severity levels that vary with time and change continuously as the weather passes a region. Different weather situations are represented with scenarios. For each scenario the weather parameters, such as size, strength, speed and direction can vary. A stochastic method for choosing parameters is also described

To determine the relationship between objective stress, subjective reaction, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms and cortisol in pregnant women exposed to a natural disaster.<br>Methods. To evaluate the compression wood response in eastern white pine (Pinus strobus L.) following a severe ice storm in 1994, 47 trees were felled in 2007 and cross-sectional samples were collected at 0.5 (Â±0.2) m stem height. In this master thesis a weather model to simulate an ice storm is developed. Precipitation, wind and movement are modelled by mathematical functions to create a realistic model. The weather model is used to calculate wind and ice loads on power lines. Two dierent models for the ice accretion on the power lines are used and compared. Data from two storms in Sweden in 1995 and 1999 are studied. In the simulations, the precipitation is assumed to fall as freezing rain instead of snow. Supraglacial lakes in the ablation zone of the Greenland Ice Sheet (GrIS) often drain rapidly (in hours to days) by hydraulically-driven fracture (“hydrofracture”) in the summer. This study analyzes the available radar evidence in order to describe the morphology of channel networks around the north polar seas of Titan. Critical flow depths necessary to entrain water-ice grains, and denudation rates for a north polar channel network are discussed. The results indicate that channel networks on Titan have similar morphologies to channel networks cut by water on Earth. We also find that water-ice sediment should be readily entrained in the headwaters and downstream sections of the analyzed Titanian basin, given sufficient flow depths of liquid hydrocarbons.
