Jesus Christ as the Icon of God in Origen’s teaching Origen Adamantius (c. 185 - 253), one of the most prominent exegetes of early Christianity, presented an unusual theological theory on Jesus Christ as the image of God. According to Origen, the Father, invisible and unimaginable to the entire creation, shaped his own invisible image. Adamantius regarded Jesus Christ as the only perfect image of invisible God. He claimed that a man was created to represent God. Thus, the image of God is perfected in a person who lives according to the will of God. Owing to the coming of

In a critical discussion with Kant, it is shown that the so-called saturated phenomenon is neither constituted as an object nor can it be related back to an ego. As he had done throughout the story, Gerson sought to recreate the feelings, responses, and very words of Mary as she witnessed her son's suffering. In an anguished question that echoed Jesus’ own, Gerson proclaims that Mary was able to cry to God.

Abstract This chapter contextualizes and analyzes the theoretical achievement of Theodore the Studite, the last and greatest of the magisterial iconophile authors writing against iconoclasm. The respective image theories of Plotinus, Constantine V, and Nicephorus of Constantinople all reduce the capacities of the geometrical line to indicate God in the icon. Against this background, Theodore proposes a univocal account of linear circumscription in which measurement is the key to the operation of the Christ icon.
