Abstract:
We extended the three dimensional ideal Bose gas theory into the fractal dimensions between 2 and 3. The thermodynamic properties and critical exponents of the ideal Bose gas are studied through the functional analysis of the Bose gas function in the fractal dimensions. The condensation and phase transition of the ideal system depend on its dimensions. The phase transition is detectable only in the sufficiently high derivatives of the specific heat function. The derivatives change discontinuously at values of the fractal dimensions which we have calculated.

A jet is a stream of one fluid entering another at high speed. In the simplest classical model of jet flow, the geometry is two-dimensional, gravity and viscosity are ignored, the moving fluid is a liquid, and the stationary fluid is a gas whose influence is assumed negligible. The description of this idealized flow can be reduced to a problem of complex analysis, but, except for very simple nozzle geometries, that problem cannot be solved analytically. This paper presents an efficient procedure for solving the jet problem numerically in the case of an arbitrary polygonal nozzle.

This leads to an algebra of functions in position space that is noncommutative. Nevertheless it is possible to find appropriate analogues of the Euler equations of an ideal fluid. The system still has a Hamiltonian structure. It is hoped that this will be useful in the study of possible singularities in the evolution of Euler (or Navier–Stokes) equations in three dimensions.

Abstract:
This article describes a computationally simple, statistically consistent, reasonably efficient, and statistically informative generalized least squares (GLS) estimator for a general class of nonlinear, multidimensional scaling (MDS) models including the “ideal-point” models of voters' and legislators' behavior proposed by Melvin Hinich, Keith Poole, and others. Unlike other methods, the method described in this article provides a statistical framework for testing a wide range of hypotheses about these models including their functional form, their dimensionality, and the values of specific par

Using data from Eurobarometer Surveys 2001–2011 we examine trends and correlates of childlessness intentions and ideals across Europe over the past decade. We distinguish childlessness as a personal preference (personal ideal number of children is zero) from intended childlessness (intention to have no children) as these reflect somewhat different dimensions of childlessness as a conscious decision. We find that, on average, childlessness as a personal preference is relatively rare in Europe, although in some western European countries a sizeable proportion of young adults express a desire to

Intersectionality has attracted substantial scholarly attention in the 1990s. Rather than examining gender, race, class, and nation as distinctive social hierarchies, intersectionality examines how they mutually construct one another. I explore how the traditional family ideal functions as a privileged exemplar of intersectionality in the United States. Each of its six dimensions demonstrates specific connections between family as a gendered system of social organization, racial ideas and practices, and constructions of U.S. national identity.

Brazil's Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF) is an especially interesting case for scholars with an interest in judicial behavior. The justices of the STF rule in tens of thousands of cases per year, in a great variety of legal disputes. The ideological breakdown of the STF remains puzzling. Observers of the STF find that a single left-right dimension is entirely inadequate to describe the voting coalitions that form in the court. In this paper, we utilize a new dataset covering a representative sample of all cases decided by the STF between 1992 and 2013. The first important finding is that the vo

The nature of symmetry breaking in the superfluid phase transition in two dimensions is studied. It is shown that, like superfluidity in three dimensions, the superfluid phase transition in two dimensions is characterized by the breaking of a U(1) gauge symmetry. The phase transition does not so much resemble the superfluid phase transition in three dimensions, however, as it does Bogolubov’s η-ensemble theory of the condensation of an ideal Bose gas.

A one-way multivariate analysis of variance design with a control group (regular directions) and three treatment groups using induced social roles (Faking Good, Teacher, and Ideal Teacher) as independent variables and the High School Personality Questionnaire primary scores as dependent variables was used. Subjects were 384 male high school students from Grades 9 through 12. Within each classroom, students were randomly assigned to the four groups noted above. A broad pattern of differences in scores on primary and secondary personality dimensions were obtained. Significant differences between
