We derive optimal strategies for a bidding agent that participates in multiple, simultaneous second-price auctions with perfect substitutes. We prove that, if everyone else bids locally in a single auction, the global bidder should always place non-zero bids in all available auctions, provided there are no budget constraints. With a budget, however, the optimal strategy is to bid locally if this budget is equal or less than the valuation. Furthermore, for a wide range of valuation distributions, we prove that the problem of finding the optimal bids reduces to two dimensions if all auctions are

You are then given the options either of sticking with your original door, or switching to the other unopened door. What should you do to maximise your chances of winning the car?

Although it is only a decade since the use of transgenic livestock for the production of pharmaceutical proteins in milk was first suggested, great progress has been made. There is every reason to expect that, as methods for the transfer of genomic clones are applied with efficient regulatory elements, many proteins will be produced at high concentrations in the milk of livestock species. In most cases, these proteins will be biologically active, however, it remains to be shown whether they will be identical in structure and function to the natural product.

We find that in the cases studied both VM and CE methods prescribe the same importance sampling parameters, suggesting that the criterion of minimizing the CE distance is very close, if not asymptotically identical, to minimizing the variance of the as

Nanotechnology has explored tremendous development during the last decade because of its specific properties. Nanotechnology offers generous prospects in the improvement of agriculture, water treatment, and food industry. In this study, modern extraction techniques of agricultural and plant samples with advanced characterization methods were discussed. Additionally, various factors affecting during synthesis of NPs are also briefly described. The assessments of NPs in these samples are very complex and various techniques are to be used to get essential data. The outcomes estimated by these various techniques and methodologies are not constantly identical because of different samples different standardization methodology. A new challenge emerges when testing samples with low concentration. For this situation, expository techniques with high affectability are wanted to gauge low convergences of NPs. A perfect analytical technique should be able to detect plant-NP association, for example, structure, morphology, natural speciation, size, mass concentration, etc.

This chapter reviews strategies for working with students who are from military families. During peacetime, military children are nearly identical to civilian children in terms of well-being and academic achievement. When families face deployment, however, social, emotional, academic, and behavioral problems can occur. The chapter reviews risks and stressors faced by students and parents with military involvement; these include financial stress, familial changes related to stages of deployment, and reactions to the injury or loss of a family member. Counseling strategies to support students through relocation, deployment, loss, or injury to a parent are presented and include building coping skills, grief counseling, and group counseling. This chapter explores the ways in which early mythography resonates with Hesiodic. In doing this, it goes beyond the question of whether certain narratives in Hesiod’s poetry (esp. the myth of the five human races) can be viewed as proto-historical accounts, a question posed by earlier scholarship. Rather, the focus lies on the discursive strategies shared by Hesiod and some of the fragmentary early mythographers. These strategies indicate a similarity in approach between Hesiod and the mythographers that can be attributed to the similar (or indeed sometimes identical) material with which they work. It is argued that Hesiod can be considered an exponent of historie who is epistemologically conscious and that he is a thinker who for the first time, as far as we know, raises questions and engages with material in a way that resonates with the intellectual developments brought about by Hecataeus and his peers.

Abstract:
Wayne Shorter remains one of the most significant jazz composers of the 1960s, with challenging compositions noted for their harmonic and formal ambiguity. “El Toro” (Art Blakey, Freedom Rider) uses a major third axis progression in a 16-bar form, but the melodic structure cuts against an 8 + 8-bar regularity; “Virgo” (Night Dreamer) relies on a 29-bar ABAC form with irregular phrase lengths. A comparison of “Penelope” (Etc) and “El Gaucho” (Adam’s Apple) shows that they begin with a nearly identical melody, but Shorter subjects each to radically different harmonic environments. “Pinocchio” (Miles Davis, Nefertiti) is an 18-bar composition. Its major third axis uses postbop substitution strategies that echo more-conventional progressions. “Face of the Deep” (The All-Seeing Eye) is one of Shorter’s more exploratory compositions: it links to the jazz avant-garde, and its scoring for three horns reveals an expanded vocabulary of upper structure harmonies.

It shows that non-Roma from Novo mesto discriminate against the Roma in the context of repeated interactions, even when Roma behaviors in the game are identical to non-Roma behaviors. Although many higher-order features of mental disorders are inaccessible in cellular and animal models, we can gain insight into causal mechanisms underlying dysregulated neural circuitry by characterizing the functional capacity of human neurons in different environmental and genetic contexts. The field is now in its infancy and researchers are just beginning to explore the phenotypes of neurons derived from patients with complex psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia and autism. Here we review some of the major breakthroughs and significant challenges in the effort to leverage this resource to develop innovative therapeutic strategies for psychiatric disease.

Abstract:
The need for ethical leadership continues to become increasingly important as the environment grows more interconnected and complex. Educators are being called upon to assist in the development of ethical leaders; however, ethical decision-making, because of its complex nature, is not something that can be taught in a simple, straight forward fashion. This chapter provides an overview of a variety of strategies regarding when, what, and how to teach ethics and presents an instructional module in ethical decision-making, grounded in scholarly literature. The module can be used to provide depth and richness for undergraduate and graduate university students by creating an opportunity for them to ponder ethical situations, mull over and debate alternatives based on philosophical lenses, and arrive at decisions, which are probably not identical, but personally defensible. The educational unit focuses on developing awareness of one’s own ethical stance as well as teaching the utility of a system for ethical analysis which allows for contextual difference, nuance and complexity rather than imposing one set of moral standards. In addition, several keys to effective ethics instruction are suggested.

We consider a selection problem with stochastic probing. There is a set of items whose values are drawn from independent distributions. The distributions are known in advance. Each item can be \emph{tested} repeatedly. Each test reduces the uncertainty about the realization of its value. We study a testing model, where the first test reveals if the realized value is smaller or larger than the median of the underlying distribution. Subsequent tests allow to further narrow down the interval in which the realization is located. There is a limited number of possible tests, and our goal is to desig

A significant proportion of the work effort for a whole engine analysis is spent for prep-processing tasks especially for component assemblies and complex structural components. With respect to the generation of a pure hexahedral mesh, the work effort increases due to the absence of an automatic method to generate high quality hexahedral meshes for an arbitrary geometry. In addition, the time-consuming hexahedral meshing process contains numerous, repetitive tasks for large and complex assemblies due to similar and identical components. This paper deals with a scheduling problem to minimize makespan in m-stage hybrid flowshop with unrelated parallel-machines at least one stage. Since the problem is known to be NP-hard, a two-phase heuristic algorithm is proposed to obtain a near-optimum schedule efficiently. In the first phase of the proposed algorithm, some promising schedules with an identical job-sequence to all stages are generated by applying NEH algorithm in various ways, and then search better schedules by applying some heuristic job-moving strategies to these schedules in the second phase. It is widely recognized, both in industry and academia, that clear strategies in knowledge transfer positively influence the success of a firm. A firm should support the transfer of knowledge by standardizing communication channels within and across departments, based upon personalization, codification or a combination of these two strategies. The characteristics of the business influence the choice of communication channels used for knowledge transfer. Abstract In this study, an islanded microgrid system is proposed that integrates identical stacks of solid oxide fuel cell and electrolyzer to achieve a thermally self-sustained energy storage system. Thermal management of the SOEC is achieved by use of heat from the SOFC with a heat exchanger network and control strategies. While the SOFC meets the building electricity demand and heat from its electrochemical reactions is transferred to the SOEC for endothermic heat and standby demands. Whether to repair or replace gas turbine components has always been an issue. The case for repair has always been viewed with skepticism, especially when those parts to be repaired must be done by hand, as manual repair methods can result in high levels of scrap and non-conformance. Hand grinding, blending and polishing is still frequently found in many Gas Turbine (GT) components, but in this age of high technology, why is this the case? The problem lies with the fact that individual blades and vanes that make up full engine sets are not geometrically identical and do not lend themselves to b
