CAG/CTG repeat instability is associated with at least 14 neurological disorders, including Huntington’s disease and Myotonic dystrophy type 1. In vitro and in vivo studies have showed that CAG/CTG repeats form a stable hairpin that is believed to be the intermediate for repeat expansion and contraction. Addition of extra DNA is essential for repeat expansion, so DNA synthesis is one of the keys for repeat expansion. Multiple myeloma is a plasma cell malignancy and develops in the bone marrow. The myeloma bone disease is present in the majority of the myeloma patients and is characterised by the excessive numbers and increased resorptive functions of osteoclasts. Antisera were raised in rabbits against serum samples taken from pregnant and non-pregnant mares. Using these antisera in two-dimensional crossed immunoelectrophoresis, a protein (beta2-hors.PP) was found to be pregnancy specific and first detectable in the maternal circulation 6 days after mating. beta2-hors.PP detection as a pregnancy test during the first 21 days after mating was found to be significant at the 10% level.
