Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Master´s thesis adresses the issue of public spaces of inner city of Brno. These spaces have good prerequisities to become attractive places for everyday use or for spending a good free time. These prerequsities include for example compact city structure, well defined public spaces, walking city distances, presence of public and commercial facilities and distinctive genius loci. But public spaces in these localities often do not fulfill their own potential and stay as average free space inbetween buildings. Thesis suggests a detailed system for categorisation of squares and streets in the inner city of Brno and examines the reasons for potential non-fulfillment on these typologies, it tries to find out the problems of public spaces and how they can be solved.

Abstract:
During World War II, seaports Brest, Lorient and Saint-Nazaire were heavily destroyed because of their strategic location on the Atlantic coastline. Those historical events could be considered as new opportunities for the seaports to realise new thoughts and ambitious architectural projects in order to improve the functionality of the urban organism. In these days, a new occasion has come. Military and industrial areas, which were always thoroughly separated from the town centres, have been now releasing from their original activity. There are huge free building sites in the middle of the cities, waiting for the urban architects.

Abstract:
This thesis deals with the study of historiographical narrative sources of České Budějovice from the early modern period. Research is set in a European context. Especially in the German-speaking countries, a number of challenging studies have already emerged from which it is possible to draw suggestions and comparisons. Methodologically, the work is focused on the research of historical-anthropological issues, which could reveal the thought-world of burghers in the early modern period. However, the basis of the dissertation is a codicological analysis of the external and internal features of the manuscripts and their comparison. First, the thesis introduces individual sources, including biographies of scribes overlapping into the 19th century, then the research interest of historians in these sources is presented up to the present day. It is essential to identify the types of sources in which chronicle or memorial records can be found, and to determine the forms of their preservation. Emphasis is also placed on the authors and motivations that led them to create the chronicles. The aim of the analysis of thematic areas of records and their mutual comparison is to find out whether urban historiographical narrative sources could create urban identity and could form the image of the city. The main contribution of this work is to deepen the understanding of historiographical narrative sources of cities and to research of the thinking and action of early modern urban inhabitants. The work also deals with the comparison with other important writing centres in the 16th to 18th century and examines the impact of historical events and artistic and cultural directions on the form of these sources. Part of this work is a list of narrative sources for the history of České Budějovice from the early modern period, which can be used for better understanding the issue and could support further research on the city's history.

of diploma thesis Title: Strangers at home - In Search of Indigenous Identity at the Suburbs of a Glocal Mexican City Student: Marie Heřmanová Tutor: Mgr. Radovan Haluzík The presented thesis is based on a fieldwork realized during five months in the city of San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas in south of Mexico and deals with different strategies through which are young Tzotziles and Tzeltales living in the new suburbs of the old colonial city constructing their identity. Main axes of the thesis are first the relationship of these young people to the native communities of their parents and second to the rich and turistic city centre. As a main ethnographic method I use participant observation and also the material culture studies ( the tesis focus mostly on identification through visage and consequently on the consitution of identity through styles and modes of dressing).

Abstract:
The dissertation thesis deals with urban historical monographs that were published in 1860-1900 in Czech, German, and Polish language, and covered towns in Bohemia, Moravia, and Galicia. Adopting a broadly comparative perspective, the study focuses on the social dimension of the books through the lens of local and national identities. It presupposes that the urban histories essentially created local identities but at the same time makes a hypothesis that nationalization of society in the 19th century had significant impact on local urban history. The first chapter shows that the urban historiography in each of the regional-language spheres developed unevenly. One of the reasons was the different significance of towns and urban past in national thoughts. The following chapter analyses urban monographs as books. It poses questions about who wrote urban histories, with what intentions, and for what readership. It reveals that the books had essentially two roles: they served local purposes and at the same time they were integrated in the national programme The two remaining chapters deal with the analysis of historical representations. The fourth chapter compares urban histories with regard to periodization of urban past. It confirms that the national historical frame significantly influenced the ways...

KOVÁRNOVÁ, P. (2015): Regional identity of the inhabitants of the Šumava foothills: comparison of towns Klatovy, Sušice, and Vimperk. Master thesis. Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Science, Department of Social Geography and Regional Development, Prague, pp. 98. The thesis deals with the regional identity of the inhabitants of the Šumava foothills. The main goal of the thesis is to identify and evaluate the factors forming regional identity in the Šumava foothills which could be considered as a base for discussions on the possibilities of future regional development of this region. The thesis is based on general assumptions of study of territorial identities and border peripheries, which are based on heuristics of literature discussing the process of forming regional identity, polarization of space, and the problematics of the areas of peripheral and border regions. The assessment of differences of regional identity in continuously inhabited, partly relocated, and resettled areas is component objective which is focused on the definition and assessment categories determining the potential formation of regional identity. The object of the research are the three places with extremely complicated historical development, the towns Klatovy, Sušice, and Vimperk. The achievement of this objective...

Abstract:
In the cities locality development tends to be the object of conflicts and negotiations of different actors with varied interests, e.g. investors, developers, municipal leaders and citizens' associations. It is possible to find among these participants a wide range of strategies and preferences, often including a visual presentation of the urban projects. This diploma thesis centers on the completion of the Victory Square, which according to the master plan of Prague should be a secondary center and it should be the main square of Prague 6. Currently completion projects for the Victory Square are discussed with a significant amount of opposing debate on their intended use, their purpose and also their design. The aim of this paper is to (1) analyze the present-day role of the unfinished Victory square in the center system in Prague, (2) ascertain who has an interest in the completion of the square and what methods are utilized to present their goals, with particularly emphasis on construction of a new identity of the space, and (3) discuss who has the ability to influence the final result considering the different roles of private investors, municipality and citizens. This thesis will try to identify the role of capital, residents, and discourse as influential actors in the reconstruction process...

Abstract:
The article introduces the concept of territorial marketing and its reflection in the attractiveness of Zurich territory. Even though the process of globalization brings benefits, it also challenges the small territories to compete in the global market. Regarding regional development, the concept helps to maximize the level of the attractiveness of the city, thus economic growth. In general, territorial marketing strategies are quite successful in innovative regions, as well as cities. The primary reason for choosing such a city is precisely its innovative potential and strategy, as the city council effectively works with elements of territorial marketing and develops its territory sustainably. The article aims to analyze the relevance of the concept in the city of Zurich, applying the method of secondary data analysis. Zurich is a representative city that the implementation of the concept of territorial marketing may increase the attractiveness of the territory. The city council works effectively with important segments and knows its preferences. It uses local entrepreneurs, employees and residents, visitors, potential investors, and international companies to identify its target groups. The city's priorities are the development and cooperation of local entities, innovative activities, and attractiveness for potential external investors, which brings opportunities to the city.

Abstract:
In the last more than ten years, interest in the phenomenon of small towns has increased. The aim of the article is to identify development problems, future trends and investment needs of small towns in the Czech Republic depending on their location in relation to large cities and metropolitan regions. The results are based on a questionnaire survey of 184 small towns. The most important problems that small towns solve today include transport infrastructure, parking options, housing. In addition, small towns in a peripheral location also solve job opportunities. The biggest problem of public services is the provision of medical and hospital care. According to the representatives of municipalities, the future of small towns will be determined primarily by the aging of the population, the departure of young, educated and entrepreneurial people and the decline in population. The main investment needs include the revitalization of urban centres, housing, transport and mobility. The results of the questionnaire survey showed that small towns in the Czech Republic are a very heterogeneous group of settlements. The assumption that small towns in peripheral regions have significantly different needs than towns in a central location has not been confirmed. They differ rather in the degree of problem, respectively urgency of their solution. Their political support needs to be approached individually and such support programs need to be created that will enable the implementation of integrated strategies.
