Abstract:
Celem teoretycznych rozważań i empirycznej wiedzy w niniejszym artykule było ustalenie roli autorytetów medialnych w życiu dzisiejszej młodzieży i połączenie jej z rolą prawdziwych autorytetów.</p>

Abstract:
Miał on w tej wersji sens monolatryczny.

Abstract:
Obie skrajnie różne jeżeli chodzi o ich pochodzenie społeczne, przekonania i aktywność zawodową, lecz połączone jedną wspólną cechą – ogromną miłością do botaniki.

Abstract:
The idol fever phenomenon is increasingly popular in Indonesia. The higher the level of one's idolization, the higher the level of involvement with the idol. The more individuals idolize or engage with idolized figures, the greater the intimacy imagined against the idol figure. When an individual makes a celebrity the main focus of his/her life, then dysfunction will form. Some individuals will form imaginary relationships with their idol celebrities which will eventually lead to virtual obsession with idol celebrities. This obsession is also known as celebrity worship (McCutcheon, Maltby, & Houran, 2003). Several studies show celebrity worship is associated with fans' pathological, negative, and distorted traits, low performance and learning skills, low self-esteem and difficulty in forming their identities, along with low psyhological well-being. This research was conducted to determine the role of cognitive flexibility, self-esteem, and loneliness, against celebrity worship in adolescents. This research uses quantitative approach with multiple regression analysis. The sample of this study were 630 teenagers aged 10-24 years who had idols. The sampling technique uses non-probability sampling technique, namely purposive sampling. This research was conducted using quantitative methods by distributing research questionnaires to participants who meet the criteria. In this study, researchers adapted data collection instruments, which are 22 items celebrity attitude scale (CAS), 12 items cognitive flexibility scale, 10 items Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale (RSES) and UCLA loneliness scale of 20 items. The results of this study indicate the role of cognitive flexibility, self-esteem, loneliness, age and gender as demographic data on celebrity worship in adolescents with an R2 of 12.1%. Partially, there are two variables that have a positive role in celebrity worship, namely the cognitive flexibility variable, and the loneliness variable.

This study tries to delineate a broad view of the idol and hero importance and complexity in football, in order to comprehend its influence of transforming childhood dreams in profession. Abstract:
En slutsats är att förebilder är viktiga, men också föränderliga förutsättningar för bibehållen motivation för spelande.<br>This is a study of how role models and idols affect the choice of instrument and music, with focus on the electric guitar, and which other driving forces that affect this. The intention with the study is to achieve knowledge about different driving forces that affect the will of playing an instrument. The theoretical point of the study is the sociocultural theory. Earlier studies on the subject are about social values, the affect role models have on people, and the frames of teaching and learning. I have used qualitative interviews, and my informants are electric guitarists with varied age and musical background. The result shows that growing-up environments and the affection from media affect the choice of instrument, but a stronger ambition is needed to keep on playing after the youth has passed. The discussion enlightens for example the positive and the negative sides of idolizing, and how the demand for idols changes through time. One conclusion is that role models are important but also changing conditions for sustained motivation in playing.

Flausino da Gama was deaf, and studied at the Imperial Institute for Deaf-Mutes. He produced his book in 1875 using lithography. Bibliographic and documentary research methodology enabled us to study the publication and understand the historical context of the period in which Flausino undertook the challenge of producing an iconography of Brazilian sign language. The study revealed that Flausino da Gama reproduced folios from an earlier French work entitled L'Enseignement Primaire des Sourds-Muets mis a la portée de tout le monde avec Une Iconographie des Signes, that was authored by a deaf Frenchman named Pierre Pélissier. Flausino's oeuvre was analyzed according to visual language categories in order to understand the rationale for its constitution. The Iconographia dos signaes dos surdos-mudos of Flausino da Gama is made up of twenty folios with a total of 382 signs, not counting the manual alphabet that is also present in the book. The publication also includes 18 folios with verbal descriptions of the signs that are in the book. By means of this study, we hope to clarify the origin of the iconography of Brazilian sign language, as well as bring to light an understanding of Flausino and his special standing for Brazilian sign language, as he has become a mythical figure in the history of the education of the deaf in Brazil<br>Doutorado<br>Artes Visuais<br>Doutor em Artes

Thesis advisor: Robert Faulkner<br>The following sketch attempts to look at the ways in which Francis Bacon helped to bring about the modern age by presenting a system of skepticism, in the form of his doctrine of idols, which initiated the break away from classical philosophy and Christian theology and made room for a new, secular science. By looking at Bacon’s peculiar and esoteric writing style as well as his detractors’ assessments of him, I show not only what they got wrong about Bacon but also and more importantly that many of their criticisms of Bacon’s role in the history of science and philosophy depend on his very success in brining about a reformation of men’s minds. I show how far-reaching his doctrine of the idols is and how it initiated the trend in modern philosophy to create systems of skepticisms that are based on human reason’s self-criticism. Finally, I show how Bacon’s doctrine of idols led to his refutations not only of philosophical doctrines but of Christian theology as well<br>Thesis (MA) — Boston College, 2015<br>Submitted to: Boston College.

The author studies the presence of symbols and myths in the contemporary world deriving it ftom an analysis of movies dating ftom this period. The study begins with a review of fonnulations about symbolsand myths, following different authors along the time. He chooses Paul Ricouer's concept of symbol and a conception of myth as a dramatic unfolding of symbols.Deriving ftom many authors who studied present day world symbols and myths he elaborates a cultural material evaluation itinerary represented by a selection of movies. Ris assumption is that symbolic and mythic material can be found in contemporary cultural productions and the itinerary will allow to evaluate this material. He presents the analysis of 21 contemporary movies, which are afterwards tabulated. He concludes that the presence of symbolic and mythic elements is verified in the analyzed movies, satisfying totally or partially the evaluation protocol criteria that were utilized. Symbolic and mythic material found are spread among varied themes, without coming across a common denominator on the content point of view. What is found is that a. the material analyzed, despite the heterogeneous content, shows fonnally similarthemes like the heroes, nature and culture aspects; b. heroes continue to be presented, under modem clothing, as models for human development; c. the approach of technology-related topics suggests that this technical advancement needs to be culturally mediated, meaning, allowed by gods and oriented by heroes which establish the exemplary model of human actions. Gathered material suggests that man's cultural creation in the field of passage rituals, like marriage, entrance to adult world, funerals are being transfonned, but the human spirit continues to insist in the ritual that accomodates the content and makes the connection with the universal aspectoExamined material suggests that, in the scope of the study that was penonned, uniformity of some human spirit manifestations is seen and is found above singular cultures; d. contemporary psychotherapeutic practices need to incorporate the study and utilization of up-to-date symbology and mythology for better serving its clientele, whose demand can be described as the search for, by each and every one, his/her individualmyth<br>Doutorado<br>Saude Mental<br>Doutor em Ciências Médicas

Abstract:
In recent years, LEDs have replaced halogen bulbs or incandescent bulbs for lights on stages. The response time of the LEDs is shorter than those of halogen bulbs and incandescent bulbs, therefore it has become easier to control lights temporally and complex lighting patterns are being used for live music shows especially in pop music. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, internet distribution of concerts has become popular. Especially, virtual idol’s live shows (-e.g., Hatsne Miku’s live shows-) have become very popular in the two years in Japan. In the present study, audio-visual stimuli with different areas of the stage illuminated by lights and the various colors of the illumination were prepared and live pop music shows performed by a virtual idol, Miss Monochrome were synthesized using the software SHOWMAKER. In Experiment 1, the color of the lights was fixed at light blue, and the area of the lights illuminated on the stage was varied for the live music stage performed by the virtual idol. These 30 synthesized videos were used as stimuli in a perceptual experiment. Fifteen participants rated their impressions of the video stimuli using the semantic differential method. The results of factor analysis showed that the impressions were spanned by three factors, power, tension and tightness. It was also shown that the wider the area illuminated, the more powerful and tighter it come to be perceived. In Experiment 2, nine different areas of illumination on the stage were selected from the areas used in Experiment 1, and twelve colors of the lights were selected from the color wheel. Then 97 stimuli were constructed. Fifteen participants were presented the stimuli through a computer monitor and headphones, and requested to rate the impressions of each of them using 24 paired semantic differential scales. The results of the factor analysis showed that the impressions of the stimuli were illustrated by a three-dimensional space spanned by power, tension and lightness. The results also showed that the wider the area illuminated, the more powerful and tighter it come to be perceived. Moreover, a warm color of the lights was perceived as tense and a cool color was perceived as loose. A prime color was perceived as heavy and a mixed color was perceived as light.

Full text
Abstract:
The Illinois Department of Transportation is required to provide mitigation for impacts to wetlands and streams under Section 404 of the federal Clean Water Act and the Illinois Interagency Wetlands Policy Act of 1989, regulations that protect the function and integrity of wetland and stream water quality and wildlife habitat. These regulations are enforced by the US Army Corps of Engineers at the federal level and by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources at the state level. Permits are issued on the condition that compensatory mitigation for those impacts will be provided by the permittee prior to or concurrent with a particular project. As a frequent permittee, IDOT faces various challenges in meeting compliance with wetland and stream regulations. If these challenges are not met on schedule, construction projects may be delayed. The principal challenge is identifying and executing an appropriate approach to obtaining compensatory mitigation credits to offset wetland and stream impacts in advance of projects. Under this principal challenge, there are external factors that involve regulatory agencies and commercial mitigation credit vendors and internal factors that can be addressed through IDOT policy development and implementation. IDOT requested this special project to examine these factors, obtain feedback from other state departments of transportation regarding their compensatory mitigation programs, and to assess overall challenges to providing timely wetland and stream mitigation as well as potential solutions to address these challenges.

Rusk, Todd, Ryan Siegel, Linda Larsen, Tim Lindsey, and Brian Deal. Technical and Financial Feasibility Study for Installation of Solar Panels at IDOT-owned Facilities. Illinois Center for Transportation, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.36501/0197-9191/21-024.

Full text
Abstract:
The Smart Energy Design Assistance Center assessed the administrative, technical, and economic aspects of feasibility related to the procurement and installation of photovoltaic solar systems on IDOT-owned buildings and lands. To address administrative feasibility, we explored three main ways in which IDOT could procure solar projects: power purchase agreement (PPA), direct purchase, and land lease development. Of the three methods, PPA and direct purchase are most applicable for IDOT. While solar development is not free of obstacles for IDOT, it is administratively feasible, and regulatory hurdles can be adequately met given suitable planning and implementation. To evaluate IDOT assets for solar feasibility, more than 1,000 IDOT sites were screened and narrowed using spatial analytic tools. A stakeholder feedback process was used to select five case study sites that allowed for a range of solar development types, from large utility-scale projects to small rooftop systems. To evaluate financial feasibility, discussions with developers and datapoints from the literature were used to create financial models. A large solar project request by IDOT can be expected to generate considerable attention from developers and potentially attractive PPA pricing that would generate immediate cash flow savings for IDOT. Procurement partnerships with other state agencies will create opportunities for even larger projects with better pricing. However, in the near term, it may be difficult for IDOT to identify small rooftop or other small on-site solar projects that are financially feasible. This project identified two especially promising solar sites so that IDOT can evaluate other solar site development opportunities in the future. This project also developed a web-based decision-support tool so IDOT can identify potential sites and develop preliminary indications of feasibility. We recommend that IDOT begin the process of developing at least one of their large sites to support solar electric power generation.

Abstract:
This study explores what impact Thai K-pop idols have had on the Korean public’s perception of Thai people. The purpose of this study is to analyze the general image of Thai people held by Koreans. To do so, it examined how Koreans’ biased image of Thai people, shaped by the reports of Korean media and looked into one specific incident surrounding BLACKPINK Lisa to analyze the news reports on this incident and the reactions and opinions of Koreans expressed online. Koreans group foreign workers as Southeast Asians and see them as criminals who cause social problems. And Koreans have a biased perception that multicultural families are mostly formed through the marriage between a Koran man and a Southeast Asian woman and think that these families are social minority groups that need to be treated with sympathy. However, the influence of Thai idols on the media such as Lisa on the perceptions of the Korean public is found to be positive. Even when the issue of racial discrimination was raised surrounding Lisa, many netizens criticized and self-reflected on the racial discrimination in Korea.

Abstract:
The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) manages land with considerable conservation value. Some IDOT roadways contain, or are near, special management areas (SMAs): places that have legal protection, are habitat for species with legal protection, or contain valuable biodiversity. Although SMAs are important for IDOT’s environmental objectives, historically, IDOT has addressed the management of SMAs on an as-needed basis with no broad-scale management plan or characterizations. We investigated SMAs on or near IDOT property, aiming to compile information and to help set the stage for a cohesive management strategy. We used mapping, policy and literature review, and a survey of roadside stakeholders to better understand SMAs and their management. We identified over 8,000 SMAs across Illinois on or near IDOT roadways. Municipal parks, habitat with protected species, and Illinois Natural Areas Inventory sites were the most frequent SMA types. SMAs tended to consist of forest, grassland, or wetland habitats that were geographically concentrated in northeastern and southern Illinois. We received survey responses from stakeholders across 20 states. The most reported practices for managing SMAs included mowing, herbicide application, native seeding, and brush/tree cutting. Participants noted the difficulty of controlling invasive plants, insufficient funding, logistical constraints, and limited staffing as obstacles to achieving management objectives. We created a template of best management practices—conventional sets of practices that are effective for conserving sensitive biological resources. We overview frequently encountered scenarios in common natural areas encountered by IDOT and provide suggested management practices based on the literature and survey responses. Broadly, we suggest management can be improved by carefully timing activities, hiring or training specialized staff, communicating spatial information on SMAs, and considering a prevention-based rather than reactive management doctrine. Our efforts can be a foundation for more detailed best management practices and formulation of an integrated roadside vegetation management plan.

Abstract:
This report presents detailed histograms of data from the Regulated Substances Library (RSL) developed by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). RSL data are provided for state and IDOT region, IDOT district, and county spatial subsets to examine the spatial variability and its relationship to thresholds defining natural background concentrations. The RSL is comprised of surficial soil chemistry data obtained from rights-of-way (ROW) subsurface soil sampling conducted for routine preliminary site investigations. A selection of 22 inorganic soil analytes are examined in this report: Al, Sb, As, Ba, Be, Cd, Ca, Cr, Co, Cu, Fe, Pb, Mg, Mn, Hg, Ni, K, Se, Na, Tl, V, and Zn. RSL database summary statistics, mean, median, minimum, maximum, 5th percentile, and 95th percentile, are determined for Illinois counties and for recognized environmental concern, non-recognized environmental concern, and de minimis site contamination classifications.

Full text
Abstract:
This project sets the stage for implementing a cone penetration testing (CPT) practice in the state of Illinois, providing recommendations for using and interpreting CPT soundings in subsurface investigations. This study also contributes to modernizing Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) policy to current CPT-related practices adopted in other departments of transportation, which is consistent with recommendations from the Federal Highway Administration. Toward the goals of this project, CPT soundings across the nine districts of the state of Illinois have been conducted, and available CPT data at IDOT have been evaluated. The generated data have been uniformly processed, generating a database of 156 CPTs distributed across the nine districts. The database also includes shear wave velocity profiles at 28 locations and pore pressure dissipation tests at 45 locations. In addition, information (editable and non-editable) provided by IDOT has been carefully examined. The provided information consisted of boreholes with standard penetration test (SPT) data and laboratory tests on collected Shelby tubes. This information has been used to develop SPT-CPT correlations that can be applied in the state of Illinois and to provide examples of interpreting seismic piezocone test (SCPTu) data in the context of laboratory testing. Due to the several independent, fast, and reliable measurements that can be conducted in a CPT sounding and the fact that they can be done cost-effectively, CPT soundings are increasingly being preferred for in situ testing, and their adoption at IDOT is a positive step forward and consistent with the best practices at other U.S. departments of transportation.

Thompson, Marshall, and Ramez Hajj. Flexible Pavement Recycling Techniques: A Summary of Activities. Illinois Center for Transportation, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.36501/0197-9191/21-022.

Full text
Abstract:
Cold in-place recycling (CIR) involves the recycling of the asphalt portions (including hot-mix asphalt and chip, slurry, and cape seals, as well as others) of a flexible or composite pavement with asphalt emulsion or foamed asphalt as the binding agent. Full-depth reclamation (FDR) includes the recycling of the entire depth of the pavement and, in some cases, a portion of the subgrade with asphalt, cement, or lime products as binding agents. Both processes are extensively utilized in Illinois. This project reviewed CIR and FDR projects identified by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) from the Transportation Bulletin and provided comments on pavement designs and special provisions. The researchers evaluated the performance of existing CIR/FDR projects through pavement condition surveys and analysis of falling weight deflectometer data collected by IDOT. They also reviewed CIR/FDR literature and updated/modified (as appropriate) previously provided inputs concerning mix design, testing procedures, thickness design, construction, and performance as well as cold central plant recycling (CCPR) literature related to design and construction. The team monitored the performance of test sections at the National Center for Asphalt Technology and Virginia Department of Transportation. The researchers assisted IDOT in the development of a CCPR special provision as well as responded to IDOT inquiries and questions concerning issues related to CIR, FDR, and CCPR. They attended meetings of IDOT’s FDR with the Cement Working Group and provided input in the development of a special provision for FDR with cement. The project’s activities confirmed that CIR, FDR, and CCPR techniques are successfully utilized in Illinois. Recommendations for improving the above-discussed techniques are provided.
