The results indicate that in 2009 there were 2061 glaciers in this region, with a total area of 3225 ±90.3 km2. This glacier population is divided into 1290 glaciers, with a total area of 1961 ±54.9 km2, on the north side of the Himalaya (NSH), and 771 glaciers, with a total area of 1264 ± 35.4 km2, on the south side of the Himalaya (SSH). Long-term variability of the cold subsurface water (CSW) in the Okhotsk Sea is analyzed on the base of all available oceanographic data collected in March through August of 1946-2015 (total 65,742 stations). The Integral Heat Content (IHC) is calculated for each station and average annual IHC anomalies of the cold subsurface water are determined by month and by 2-degree grid. Hudson Bay experiences a complete cryogenic cycle, which has been well documented since 1971. We developed a temperature proxy method to extend the sea ice record back to 1944, using mean temperatures for Churchill and Inukjuak and the difference between these means at two different seasonal periods. This method proved to reproduce the 1971 to 2011 ice-free season length record with an error just over eight days (6%). This relationship was used to hindcast ice-free season length to 1944. This hindcast was subsequently appended to the existing 1971–2011 record to form a 68-year sea ice record.

This essay reveals the importance of an October 1971 trip to Canada by Soviet premier Alexei Kosygin. Conflict before, during, and after the Indochinese Women’s Conferences (IWC) in Canada in 1971 forced women's liberationists invested in hosting the IWC to contemplate why war was an important feminist issue. Before the conference even began, white women's liberationists debated the relationship between sexism and imperialism and fostered a rethinking of war's relationship to women and society. Much of the literature on second-wave feminism overlooks the international context, but I argue that the circumstances of the Viet Nam war generated feminist perspectives on military actions.

This chapter recalls the history of the law of State immunity through the decisions of the national courts in both common and civil law jurisdictions and recounts the general recognition in common and civil law jurisdictions of the restrictive doctrine as well as its adoption by national legislation in 1976 in the US (the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act 1976 (FSIA)) and in 1978 in the UK (the State Immunity Act 1978 (SIA)) followed by similar legislation in some Commonwealths and other countries. The conclusion drawn from State practice in surveys conducted by the International Law Commission (ILC) and the Council of Europe is that there is wide and ever increasing support for a restrictive doctrine of immunity.

This chapter investigates international environmental law (IEL) in the courts of China. It is noteworthy that the first international conference that the People's Republic of China (PRC) participated in after it was formally recognized by the United Nations (UN) in 1971, was the 1972 UN Conference on the Human Environment (Stockholm). It is widely recognized that this conference brought environmental protection onto the Chinese government's radar and led to the promulgation of the Environmental Protection Law in 1979. Since then, China has signed or ratified nearly all multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs) and is an active participant in global environmental diplomacy. However, Chinese courts do not play a significant role in interpreting or developing IEL. Even if environmental litigation were to flourish due to the steps taken to encourage environmental public interest litigation (EPIL), it is unlikely that IEL will feature prominently in the jurisprudence.

Four Pratt and Whitney FT4C-1 Twin Pacs manufactured in 1971 and purchased new by an electric utility (Portland General Electric) were sold in 1986 to the City of Austin Electric Utility to provide 200,000 KW for Austin’s system peaking requirements. The equipment was refurbished and reinstalled for the City of Austin and was declared commercial in September, 1988 for a total installed price of $155/KW.
