Full textContradictions between traditional and modern system of production seem to be the most important cause of the delay in the implementation, of technical devices for sanitation of wastes water in ile ife, nigeria. Traditionally the yoruba culture dealed with specific devices for waste water sanitation, centered in the housing unit (compound). The public power of the city -state was charged of the implementation and maintenance of drainage devices at the town level presently in ile ife, traditional practices still exist, in the ancient core of the town, where still survives the traditional social organisation. In the new urbanized areas of the town, only the private initiative operates, beeing the role of the local gover nement quite absent. The implementation of sanitation policies by the federal governement of nigeria has been, up to now, almost a failure. The states governements, with some exceptions, failed to organize sanitation services; the local councils, charged of the implementation of sanitation devices in their area of governement have not financial and technical tools to reach their tasks. .

Full textThe aim: The overall aim of this licentiate thesis was to describe and analyze oral health-related quality of life measured with OHIP-14. The thesis comprises two studies, each with a specific aim.
Study I: To describe oral health-related quality of life measured with OHIP-14 in an Swedish adult population
Study II: To study the relationship between oral health-related quality of life, measured with OHIP-14, and subjective as well as objective dry mouth conditions in fragile old people. Furthermore, the aim was to study the reliability and validity of a new instrument (VAS) to measure dry mouth
Material and methods: Study I comprised a stratified random sample of 519 individuals 20-80 years of age. In Study II, 41 randomly selected fragile old people, residents at three different community care centers, participated. In both studies, the questionnaire OHIP-14 was used for measurement of oral health-related quality of life. The participants in Study II answered a questionnaire for subjectively experienced dry mouth (VAS). For objective dry mouth measurements, saliva was absorbed into a preweighted cotton roll.
Results: In Study I, 21% of the respondents stated that they had no oral problems that had a negative impact on their well-being. In Study II, the corresponding figure was 71%. In study I the mean value for OHIP-14 was 6.4 (SD=7.1) for the entire population; 5.9 (SD=7.1) for men and 6.8 (SD=7.2) for women in. Subjects, who frequently experienced problems related to oral health, with scores ranging from 16 to 41 points, accounted for 10% of the study group. In Study II, significant associations were identified between both objectively measured respective subjectively experienced dry mouth and oral health-related quality of life. The validity of the VAS instrument was good for subjective mouth dryness, but poor for objectively measured dry mouth in fragile old people.
Conclusion: From Study I it can be concluded that, in this Swedish population, a number of individuals, both young and old, experience oral problems that have a negative impact on their well-being. From Study II, the conclusion is that dry mouth (both objective and subjective) is significantly associated with poorer oral health-related quality of life, underlining the value of monitoring dry mouth conditions in the care of fraigile old people.

Full textWhich perception do the ife people have of themselves and how do they express the world around them and the world they imagine? that is the subject for this thesis. In order to write it, we collected and examined more than five hundred texts belonging to all oral types known among the ife, of profane and sacred register. According to these texts, it occurs that the ife believe in many gods gathered into a sufficient hierarchy to distinguish cosmic gods and local ones. If the individual sacrifices to many gods, the clanic group to which he belongs generally does not recognize but one god. So can we speak of monotheism or polytheism about this group? that is an ever more important question that if the ife believe in a being which is above divinities, they don't worship it. The ife people look attentively at the world around them and it is interesting to notice that the features they recognize to beings and things are used for their literary creations. So tales, songs, mottos, etc. . . Reveal an anthropomorphic world. We don't speak in those texts only of gods and the world, but also of man who is painted with a great precision in his physical and moral features. Oral litterature among the ife people is not only a vision on the world. It is also an art and we have analyzed the typical features of this art in the seventh and last chapter of our thesis

This research has had as a general goal to analyze the esp-t course from the online Erasmus platform which is addressed to health professionals. The technological and methodological aspects have been investigated through a comparative analysis of the ICT resources and methodology used in this course along with the criteria listed in the reference frameworks of Doughty and Long (2003) and Basturkmen (2006, 2010). This is a qualitative research, evaluative in type, with descriptive exploratory objective. Our research was based on a literature review on teaching ESP for health professionals in the digital context. The esp-t course was selected because it is a free ESP course, available online with open access to therapists and to health professionals aiming at language improvement for certification purposes. The researcher has enrolled herself in this course so she could live the experience of studying IFE in an open virtual platform and could develop a reflective diary, composed of personal notes and screenshots of the course attended. The data were analyzed based on reference frameworks and the results have shown that although the platform has the potential for the use of interactive activities, there is a predominance of exercises aiming at the development of reading and listening comprehension language skills.

Full textThis study presents the results of a survey conducted in the area of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) in order to identify (1) the learning needs of students in a course in Tourism, their desires and lacks, at a federal university, with respect to use of English; (2) the needs of the present situation of teachers and the coordinator of that course as to the language; (3) the needs of the target situation of professionals (graduates) and companies with respect to this language. This research is a case study (STAKE, 1998; YIN, 2009) and was used for data collection, instruments such as questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, and document on the Tourism Course. To this end, it was adopted the theoretical basis for the constructs of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) Ingl?s para Fins Espec?ficos (IFE) in Brazil, also known as Ingl?s Instrumental, whose foundation is based on the work by Hutchinson and Waters (1987), Robinson (1991), Dudley-Evans and St. John (1998), Celani, Deyes, Holmes, Scott (2006), among others, since this work is devoted to a specific area, Tourism. Results show that students opined the ability to prioritize reading and speaking into the classroom. Professionals reported that the latter is an indispensable tool for entering the labor market, yet they feel unprepared and need to attend English language courses in private language schools. The testimony of company executives also point to this deficiency. Finally, the present situation of teachers reveals that, while advocating the use of English in the classroom, this is not because students prefer their mother tongue. There is also an evident lack of needs analysis. Eventually, the coordinator said that there is some uncertainty as to the methodology, content and language skills worked, and the lack of interaction among teachers of English. It was concluded, therefore, it is important to conduct a needs analysis so that one can redesign a course that meets the different contextual needs: students, teachers, coordination, represented by the institutional needs, and the labor market

Full textIt is extremely important to be able to export models directly from Revit to IDA for the energy simulations to be efficient. This report has a background description about how the IFC-format has been developed and how it is structured. However, the focus in the report is on how Revit can be implanted in the workflow, where both export and troubleshooting from Revit are described. IFC is the standard today to export data between various parts during the construction process and it is a format that is program independent, which means that it works across different applications. The current version of IFC is IFC4, but IFC2x3 is still the most used version since not every program has support for the new IFC4 format. It is extensive to figure out which data IDA requires for energy simulations, therefore this report contains both a tutorial for export settings and a file for automatic set correct export settings in Revit. To succeed with the energy simulations a requirement is that the space in the building is enclosed with walls, floor and roof, otherwise extreme thermal bridges will cause incorrect simulations. Therefore, there are several workarounds described in this report to correct these problems, including problems with windows, doors and problems with storage facilities . The description in this report is written with the assumption that the user do not have any experience with Revit. The guides were tested on a class of high school students that are studying the course CADCAD02. The result showed that when a problem occurs with a model it can easily be solved with the support from this report. Further differences between simulations in Revit and IDA were tested. The same model was simulated in eight different places and the standard deviation was calculated, this gave the coefficient range ±4 %, i.e. a simulation in IDA should not differ more than 4 % from the simulation in Revit. Similar results were found with the simulations of windows and doors, even though the difference was slightly lower.

In this paper we sought to understand how the Degree in Physics in IFG Goiânia campus is structured and what the perspective of teachers in the area, specifically in the implementation of degree in Physics, and forward the changes in the institution. The choice of this theme is due to the requirement stipulated by law 11.892 of December 29, 2008, the Federal Institutes of Education, Science and Technology, in offering undergraduate courses, especially in the areas of Science and Mathematics, despite its recognized expertise in professional education. Some research has dealt with the theme of the presence of the degrees in FIs, discussing the profile, the deployment and the challenges that they are consoli dated. However, here we seek teachers' perception of the process. Characterized as a qualitative study we used bibliographical research to survey the changes via legal documents in the institution, as well as research on the site e -MEC for recognizing the quantity of courses offered in this mode before and after the creation of the IFs. For analysis of the survey responses a nd interviews with teachers of Physical area of Goiânia the IFG campus, we used content analysis, according to Bardin (2002). It was identified as perceived by teachers who: (i) changes in the institution provided an expansion and internalization, even disorderly; (Ii) the change in the teaching profession and school mischaracterization with devaluation of technical education; (Iii) the course designed to meet the law, structure and operation in construction, has a focus on specific knowledge at the expense of teaching; (Iv) teachers work almost exclusively in the classroom, with little or no research and extension activities. These aspects lead to understand that there is still a lack of identity in I Fs after implantation of degrees and forward the changes in this institutions.
"On the Generalizations of Identity-Based Encryption." Doctoral thesis, Universita degli studi di Salerno, 2013. http://hdl.handle.net/10556/899.
Full textToday public-key cryptographic is widely deployed and successfully used but still a major drawback exists. In fact, from encrypted data a party can either decrypt or cannot learn anything at all about the message other than intentionally leaked information such as its length. In the recent years, the cloud computing paradigm has emerged as the new standard to use computing resources, such as storage devices, that are delivered as a service over a network. In such a scenario, the notion of public key cryptography is not enough. It would be desirable to specify a decryption policy in the encrypted data in such a way that only the parties who satisfy the policy can decrypt. In a more general form, we may want to only give access to a function of the message, depending on the decryptor’s authorization. Thus, in the last decade researchers have started looking at a more sophisticated type of encryption called functional encryption. A functionality F is a function F : K × M ! where K is the key space and M is the message space. In the public-key setting, a functional encryption scheme for F is a special encryption scheme in which, for every key k 2 K, the owner of the master secret key msk associated with the master public key mpk can generate a special secret-key skk that allows the computation of F(k,m) from a ciphertext of m 2 M computed under public key mpk . In other words, whereas in traditional encryption schemes decryption is an all-or-nothing affair, in functional encryption it is possible to finely control the amount of information that is revealed by a ciphertext. One of the most notable example of functional encryption is identity-based encryption first introduced by Shamir as an alternative to the standard notion of public-key encryption. In this thesis, we discuss several instantiations of function encryption that can all be seen as generalisations of identity-based encryption. Full textIn this thesis, a multi-scale and multi-physics coupling computation procedure for a 2D and 3D setting is presented. When modeling the behavior of a structure by a multi-scale method, the macro-scale is used to describe the homogenized response of the structure, and the micro-scale to describe the details of the behavior on the smaller scale of the material where some inelastic mechanisms, like damage or plasticity, can be taken into account. The micro-scale mesh is defined for each macro-scale element in a way to fit entirely inside it. The two scales are coupled by imposing a constraint on the displacement field over their interface. The computation is performed using the operator split solution procedure on both scales, using the standard finite element method. In a 2D setting, an embedded discontinuity is implemented in the Q4 macroscale element to capture the softening behavior happening on the micro-scale. For the micro-scale element, a constant strain triangle (CST) is used. In a 3D setting, a macro-scale tetrahedral and hexahedral elements are developed, while on the micro-scale Timoshenko beam finite elements are used. This multi-scale methodology is extended with a multi-physics functionality, to simulate the behavior of a piezoelectric material. An additional degree of freedom (voltage) is added on the nodes of the 3D macro-scale tetrahedral and hexahedral elements. For the micro-scale element, a Timoshenko beam element with added polarization switching model is used. Also, a multi-scale Hellinger- Reissner formulation for electrostatics has been developed and implemented for a simple electrostatic patch test. For implementing the proposed procedure, Finite Element Analysis Program (FEAP) is used. To simulate the behavior on both macro and micro-scale, FEAP is modified and two different version of FEAP code are implemented – macroFEAP and microFEAP. For coupling, the two codes are exchanging information between them, and Component Template Library (CTL) is used. The capabilities of the proposed multi-scale approach in a 2D and 3D pure mechanics settings, but also multi-physics environment have been shown. The theoretical formulation and algorithmic implementation are described, and the advantages of the multi-scale approach for modeling heterogeneous materials are shown on several numerical examples

Full textThis thesis aims to develop a method for optical localization and tracking of microconveyors moving over a surface in the context of micro-robotics. The principle of the proposed localization method consists of detecting a beam that is reflected on the micro-conveyor and analyzing this optical received signal to obtain the corresponding positions. The main elements of the system are a corner cube reflector, a MEMS mirror and a beam splitter. The corner cube is placed on the micro-conveyor in order to allow the optical signal to be reflected in its incident direction. The MEMS mirror allows the surface to be scanned with the laser. As for the beam splitter, it is an optical component used to guide the reflected light to a photodetector which is in turn used for localization and tracking through the exploitation of the signal that it detects. The important role of localization is to optimize the trajectory followed by the micro-conveyors. This could be achieved by controlling the respective position and speed of each of them in order to be finally able to localize the micro-conveyor with high precision and to avoid possible collisions between them. The surface used is a micro-conveying surface based on an electromagnetic principle, developed at the Roberval laboratory. The surface is used to perform experimental tests and to evaluate the developed sensor. A system calibration, using homography, was carried out in order to ensure the localization and tracking of the micro-conveyor, and then to control its trajectory and speed. Simultaneous localization and tracking of two micro-conveyors using time division multiplexing was also developed and validated in this work. An application of the thesis at the macroscopic scale is presented as well through applying free space optical communication between two mobile systems controlled by closed-loop optical tracking. Each system includes an active transmitter and a receiver (instead of a passive corner cube reflector in the case of the micro-conveyor). The system is driven by two servomotors which permit it to have free movement in three-dimensional space. The two modules must be aligned in order to be able to send and receive information by laser and thus communicate. In this case, a high-precision tracking system which is capable of aligning the two moving modules is required
Bach, Dang Phong. "Development of a finite element strategy for the modeling of nano-reinforced materials." Thesis, Compiègne, 2020. http://bibliotheque.utc.fr/EXPLOITATION/doc/IFD/2020COMP2550.
Full textThe modelization of nano-reinforced material requires to take into account the size effect caused by the local phenomena at the interface between the nano-inclusion and the matrix. This size effect is interpreted through an increase in the ratio interface/volume and can be taken into account by introducing a surface elasticity at the interface. Whereas a lot of works have been developed from the analytical point of view, few contributions are related to numerical description and implementation of such surface elasticity in Finite Element Method (FEM). Our studies aim to develop efficient numerical tools based on FEM for the modeling of nanocomposites. Firstly, we evaluate the two existent numerical strategies namely the XFEM approach and the Interface element approach in reproducing the size effect in the homogenization process. Secondly, based on a performance test on the three types of formulations of E-FEM for the case of weak discontinuity, we propose an enhanced SKON formulation allowing to incorporate the effect of a coherent interface. Finally, the numerical modeling on the nonlinear behavior of nanocomposites is investigated. In the first step, a von Mises type elastoplastic law with linear isotropic hardening is considered for the bulk while the interface is considered as linear elastic

Full textLinoleic (LA) and α-linolenic (ALA) acids are two polyunsaturated fatty acids. They are essential for humans because we are unable to synthesize them in situ. These two fatty acids are the representatives of omega-6 (LA) and omega-3 (ALA). Although they are essential and therefore necessary, the issue of the omega-6 / omega-3 ratio between these two families is also important to take into account in the diet. The consumption habits of the French over the past thirty years have shifted the balance against omega-3s compared to omega-6s. Or a rebalancing of the omega-6 / omega-3 balance tends to reduce cardiovascular risks. Linseed and camelina oils are endemic crops in France extremely rich in ALA. They are the most suitable for supplementation with omega-3 of plant origin. However, the high contents of polyunsaturated fatty acids in these oils are responsible for their low oxidative stabilities. The consumption of oxidized oils or fats is not recommended because they can contribute toxic molecules. The aim of this project was to improve the shelf life of oils rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids by enhancing the antioxidant extracts of the cakes obtained after crushing the seeds. Among the molecules studied, gallic acid, caffeic acid, propyl gallate as well as pinoresinol and lariciresinol purified from flax showed a real interest in slowing down oxidation, while secoisolariciresinol was ineffective

Full textLocalization is an essential basic capability for vehicles to be able to navigate autonomously on the road. This can be achieved through already available sensors and new technologies (Iidars, smart cameras). These sensors combined with highly accurate maps result in greater accuracy. In this work, the benefits of storing and reusing information in memory (in data buffers) are explored. Localization systems need to perform a high-frequency estimation, map matching, calibration and error detection. A framework composed of several processing layers is proposed and studied. A main filtering layer estimates the vehicle pose while other layers address the more complex problems. High-frequency state estimation relies on proprioceptive measurements combined with GNSS observations. Calibration is essential to obtain an accurate pose. By keeping state estimates and observations in a buffer, the observation models of these sensors can be calibrated. This is achieved using smoothed estimates in place of a ground truth. Lidars and smart cameras provide measurements that can be used for localization but raise matching issues with map features. In this work, the matching problem is addressed on a spatio-temporal window, resulting in a more detailed pictur of the environment. The state buffer is adjusted using the observations and all possible matches. Although using mapped features for localization enables to reach greater accuracy, this is only true if the map can be trusted. An approach using the post smoothing residuals has been developed to detect changes and either mitigate or reject the affected features

Full textMultinational or transnational companies, whose number is constantly increasing, have the particularity of having employees working on different continents, having different rhythms and culture. More and more employees are required to work in multicultural and remote teams as part of their business activities. These same companies are looking for the best operational performance and the deployment of the Lean approach is a recognised lever for obtaining the best performance in a sustainable manner and has been for decades. In parallel, since the development of the Internet and digital technologies, new tools have become avaible to collect and analyse data or to manufacture. Within companies, while the impacts are often processed separately, it is indeed in a systemic way and at the same time that the cultural dimensions, the deployment of Lean and the implementation of tools linked to the digital era. With the ultimate aim of sustainable performance it is the efficiency of the system as a whole that is at stake. This thesis proposes to review of industrial situations, and to propose an support for the evaluation and consistent implementation of all three elements i.e culture, Lean and digitalization

Full textThis research work is exploring the development and management of Product-Service Systems. These new integrated offers go along with specific issues which challenge the current product development strategies. Analyzing the academic literature on this matter, this work focuses on methodological frameworks for the development of PSS offers. The first level of these frameworks is about engineering approaches considers Service Lifecycle Management (SLM) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) interactions. The second level is about specific systems or PSS development processes and methods. The third and last level challenges the definitions of a PSS model. Fed by this review, this work provides a coherent proposal for PSS development across these three levels, qualified by 7 analysis criterias. On the first level, a detailed PLM-SLM interaction scheme is proposed. It supports a development process on the second level, alongside a PSS model based on FBS and result-resource-process triplet as a matter for service adequate description. This proposal has been experimented through two study cases. The first one, about an existing and mature PSS, enabled the development of a quality management tool. The second, about the development of a connected diagnostic PSS enabled to strengthen the illustration of the proposal for its adoption

Full textSafe winter navigation is a hot topic. Not only is the traffic density increasing but theenvironmental considerations are also getting bigger. An oil leakage from a big oiltanker can be of catastrophic proportions in the wrong area and more trafficincreases the risk of an accident. A project that aims for safer winter navigation isSafeWIN. The aim of this project is to develop a forecasting system for compressiveice and thus make winter navigation safer. This thesis is part of above mentioned project and aims to investigate what influenceice compression and ice class has on winter navigation. Vessels are exclusivelyAFRAMAX size tankers sailing on Primorsk in the Gulf of Finland during 2006. Transitdata comes from AIS tracks recorded by the Swedish Maritime Administration. Adatabase with tanker transits has been created and this information is the source forthe studies in this thesis. Included in the database are wind data, ice particulars andtransit information such as speed, and time at different activities during the transit.Average values for a transit has been investigated for comparison and to get a pictureof an average transit.Velocity, waiting time and time with assisting icebreaker are parameters that arebelieved to show how a tanker performs in winter navigation. These parameters arecompared with ice compression and ice class separately to see if there is acorrelation. Ice compression has also been investigated for correlation towards windforce to see if stronger wind generates stronger compression.Using the velocity in different ice compressions an estimate of ice resistance that stemfrom ice compression has been extracted by means of Lindqvist’s formula.

Full textThe starting point of this study arosen from the difficulties felt by our students of Accountancy and Administration Course (ACC) in recognising the specific lexicon of Business English (BE) in written texts. Similar difficulties had already been noticed by some teachers of English from other schools, namely the Accountancy and Administration Institutes of Aveiro, Coimbra and Oporto. On the other hand, a brief overview of existing literature revealed a relative shortage of studies on lexicon, and indeed none could be found on the specific area of lexical errors in BE. Given both the perceived difficulties experienced by my students and the lack of relevant studies on the subject, we decided to investigate the possible causes for this state of affairs. The present study will hopefully be useful to those who face similar difficulties, as it can be used both as a working tool and as a source of further research. The corpus of different types of lexical errors presented in this study resulted from the use of both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. The data were gathered through questionnaires from students, teachers, educational institutions and enterprises and then analysed through descriptive statistics. Thus, the approach folloed is a data-driven one. The whole study is framed within the general field of English for Specific Purposes (ESP), as English for Occupational Purposes (EOP) is a relatively recent sub-branch of the former and so there is no substancial body of literature available. We describe ESP and EOP in the context of Portuguese secondery and higher education (Chap. 1), and then around the world (Chap. II). In Chapter IIIl, we analyse the learning strategies that underlie the acquisition of vocabulary. In Chapter IV, different taxonomies for lexical are discussed, and a comparaison between the data of this study and those presented in the literature is then drawn. Finally, we suggest practical measures to help students overcome difficulties in acquiring specific vocabulry (Chap. VII). Some of them are presented in detail in Appendix III, namely the organisation of a glossary of Accountancy, Administration and Auditing terms. We also include examples of classroom tasks for the learning/teaching of Business English and specialised translation.
