Abstract:
This study provides a description of connectives in Igbo, focusing on the Standard Igbo and Nsukka dialect varieties. These connectives in Igbo are realised mainly through conjunctions and a few adverbials and previous works on connectives in Igbo have hugely focused on connectives in the Standard Igbo variety (Emenanjo 2015). And so, the main aim of this work was to identify the connectives in both varieties and conduct a syntactic comparative analysis, thereby adding to the existing connectives in the literature. This work explores connectives in the Standard Igbo and the Nsukka Dialect and

Abstract:
Modern architecture in Nigeria presents a bizarre picture of indiscriminate transplantation of foreign buildings, and a complete abandonment of traditional architecture. Apparently, the transplanted architecture does not respond to the physical and cultural needs of Nigerians, and, at all events, the peoples' attitude to it portrays ignorance, confusion and resignation. This thesis argues that rather than this wholesale transplantation, Nigeria's traditional architecture should be studied to rediscover those principles that are vital for the development of a satisfactory modern architecture. An observation of mask performances in Igboland in South-Eastern Nigeria reveals distinctions among displays from various communities. This is the product of a democratic society which encourages individualism and at the same time, sustains collectivism. This feature of Igbo masking has enriched and populated the Igbo theatrical scene with thousands of diverse and seemingly unconnected masking displays. Their need to celebrate life means that the Igbo will ceaselessly try to make the best of life, because they believe that although life may be full of uncertainties, such uncertainties are only temporary. It is this insight into the transitory nature of things that makes the Igbo celebrate life, aware that time has the ability to obliterate uncelebrated memories. Abstract:
This study examines the roles of women in Igbo society as depicted in Achebe's fiction. The dissertation explores how Achebe presents women in relation to- men in Igbo society during four historical epochs — precolonial, colonial, postcolonial, and contemporary periods. Achebe begins his portrayal of women's roles in the traditional society and dramatizes the consequences of colonialism on such roles. The study finds that women's roles are a reflection of the times in which they lived, and Achebe's fiction captures the evolution of women's roles with a remarkable degree of historical realism.
