The number of cases of Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) has been increasing globally. CDI is the main cause of nosocomial diarrhoea, which may be life-threatening in complicated cases, and also costs the health care societies millions of pounds annually. The predominant types and their resistance to antibiotics have been changing and one of the major selective pressures which causes this is antimicrobial use. Although much is known about the role of the toxins in pathogenesis of CDI, the role of immunogenic cell wall components is unclear. They may play a role in colonisation and patholog

Control and analysis of protein aggregation is an increasing challenge to biopharmaceutical research and development. Therefore it is important to understand the interactions, causes and analysis of particles in order to control protein aggregation to enable successful biopharmaceutical formulations. This work investigates the role of different non-ionic surfactants on protein conformational stability, as assessed by HSDSC, and on protein size stability as assessed by Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), HIAC and MFI. BSA and IgG2 were used as model proteins. Thermal unfolding experiments indicated

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) surveillance data, about 22% of the world’s population suffer from allergic diseases. Owing to hot and humid climate, and air pollution in Taiwan, the prevalence of allergic disease become a big problem in clinical setting and public health. Allergic patients and their families experience a significant impact on their quality of life. The pathology of allergic diseases is affected by dysregulation

HBV infections can be controlled effectively by the host humoral immune response, either naturally or elicited by vaccination. Different protein compositions for HBV can evoke different immune responses and, thus, induce the generation of different IgG subclass patterns. The different IgG subclasses generated against these antigens reflect the difference between stimulating

Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI)<br>Secretory immunity is believed to play a role in natural resistance to dental caries. Although dental caries has dramatically decreased in children in the United States, there remains a population of caries-susceptible children even in fluoridated communities. Previous studies have shown a positive correlation between salivary immunoglobulin A (sIgA) antibody levels to Streptococcus mutans and caries resistance in adults. In the present study, an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to compare IgA antibody level
