Abstract:
Anna Arkadievna Iskoz-Dolinina, a Russian and Soviet Arabist with a list of over 200 publications, passed away on 16 April 2017. She was born on 12 March 1923 in Petrograd (later Leningrad, now St. Petersburg, Russia). Her father was a Leningrad University professor, a specialist on Dostoyevsky. Anna's original plan was to study German literature, but during WWII the family were evacuated with parts of the University to Tashkent. There, she became fascinated by the Orient and developed an interest in Arabic literature. The choice of Arabic vs. other languages was made easier by the publication in 1945 of the book Among Arabic Manuscripts (“Nad arabskimi rukopisiami”) by the leading Russian Arabist of the time Ignatii Iulianovich Krachkovskii (Ignaty Krachkovsky, 1883–1951).

Cammaerts, Marie-Claire, and David Cammaerts. "Challenging the safety and efficiency of homeopathy: Ignatia amara as an example, ants as models." MOJ Biology and Medicine 4, no. 1 (2019): 1–14. http://dx.doi.org/10.15406/mojbm.2019.04.00105.

Full text
Abstract:
Homeopathic treatments are considered by the vast majority of the scientific community as non-effective, apart from a well-documented placebo effect. Nevertheless, some experimental results raise questions about their efficiency, and numerous practitioners still consider homeopathy as an efficient alternative treatment instead of usual pharmaceutical drugs. Homeopathy is thus nowadays debated among the general public, practitioners and medical schools, and is still used by many patients in search for “natural” treatments. It is therefore relevant to bring information to feed this debate and to investigate the efficiency and safety of homeopathic drugs. We examined on ants, used as biological models, the effects of a homeopathic drug, Ignatia amara, advocated to ease symptoms of stress. We tested the effects of thus drug on ant’s ethological and physiological traits (1) under normal condition, then (2) under a stressing situation. We found that (1) this drug was not without adverse effects but slightly impacted some ants’ traits; (2) this drug could reduce the adverse effects caused by the stressing situation. It nearly fully restored the ants’ locomotion, orientation ability, audacity, tactile perception, brood caring, social relationship, escaping behavior, cognition, and slightly the memory. No adaptation and no habituation to the effects of Ignatia amara occurred, and no dependence on its consumption developed. The causes and mechanisms of these effects remain unknown to us, but our results support the hypothesis that, in some given cases, for some specific health problems, and using adequate product(s) and dose(s), a homeopathic treatment based on Ignata amara extracts could help patients to recover from stress symptoms.

Abstract:
A Bryophyte genus Lazarenkoa Ignatov & Ignatova (2019:227), family Leskeaceae Schimp.(1856:109) was described by Ignatov et al. (2019) on the basis of recent morphological and molecular results obtained by the plant species collected from region Primorsky Territory of Russia. Currently, genus Lazarenkoa Ignatov & Ignatova is monotypic having single species Lazarenkoa microphylla Ignatov & Ignatova (2019:227) and endemic to Russia. Unfortunately, this newly described Bryophyte genus Lazarenkoa Ignatov & Ignatova is a later homonym of Ukrainian Ascomycetes fungi genus Lazarenkoa Zerova (1938:170). Genus Lazarenkoa Zerova, is a monotypic with single species Lazarenkoa selaginellae Zerova (1938:170) belonging to the class Dothideomycetes Erikss. & Winka. (1997:5) described from shoot apices of Selaginella sibirica [Milde(1867:262)] Hieron(1900:290).

Abstract:
Anxiety disorders are the most common form of psychiatric disorders and start at an early age. The homeopathic system of complementary treatment is increasingly used by the general population. Ultra-diluted Aconite and Ignatia are homeopathic medicines used by clinicians for the treatment of anxiety. The objective of this study is to test the efficacy of Aconite 12CH and Ignatia 12CH on experimental anxiety models of Wistar rats subjected to chronic unpredictable stress. 30 Wistar rats were divided into 5 groups of Control, Stress, Vehicle, Aconite and Ignatia group with 6 animals in each group. All the groups were subjected to chronic unpredictable stress except the control group. The last two groups were fed Aconite and Ignatia through oral gavage daily for 5 weeks. Following this, a behavioral and biochemical assessment was done. It was observed that the Aconite and Ignatia treated animals showed better weight gain, but the behavioral and biochemical assessment did not show any significant change. Hence it was inferred that ultra-diluted Aconite and Ignatia though an anxiolytic used clinically, did not decrease anxiety in Wistar rats which were subjected to chronic unpredictable stress.

Abstract:
In this work we review the three principal theses that Ignatio Vincentio, a Spanish thinker of the seventeenth century, defends about the agent intellect: 1) it is the same potency as the possible intellect, only with a formal distinction and plurality of names; 2) it has three tasks: a) to illuminate phantasmata, b) to make them intelligible in act, and c) to abstract the intelligible species from them; and 3) it will remain in the separated soul performing the same task as in the present situation [(in this life) ?], but without conversion to phantasmata.

Abstract:
It is generally recognized that the dramaturgy of Anton Chekhov had a significant impact on the theatre of the 20th century. At the same time, the question of the writer’s role in the playwright’s work of the turn of the 19th–20th centuries has been little studied in literature. Ignaty Potapenko is one of the most popular writers of the 1890s and a friend of Anton Chekhov. The article presents a comparative analysis of the plays – “The Cherry Orchard” by Anton Chekhov and “The Atonement” by Ignaty Potapenko – in which the same topic is revealed: the old nobiliary manors destruction. The plot and the conflict as the elements of writer’s dramatic method are considered. The main motifs of the plays are analysed. It is noted that the conflict of Ignaty Potapenkoʼs play is psychological and traditional for classical drama. There is no conflict between characters in “The Cherry Orchard”. The conflict is philosophical. The role of the double-characters in both plays is considered. It is proved that both plays are united by the motif of foreboding disaster, catastrophe. It is proved that both plays are united by the motif of disaster and catastrophe premonition, existence of the internal and external plot. The ideological and thematic unity of the plays, the interconnection of some motifs, plot and compositional elements were discovered. It is shown that in the play by Ignaty Potapenko there are elements of both classical drama and the “new drama”.

Abstract:
Monte Carlo simulations of electron motion in GaAs/A1As superlattices with narrow mini-band width are performed to investigate the effect of a strong magnetic field on miniband conduction. In the quantum limit at low temperatures when the cyclotron energy exceeds the miniband width, the miniband conduction is found to exhibit a strong suppression. This results from the quasi-one-dimensional states formed in the quantum limit and the restricted range of the scattering processes available to the conduction electrons. A small shoulder on the lower electric field side of the main peak is also found in marked contrast with Esaki-Tsu and Ignatov models.

Abstract:
AbstractCanisius's first mission to Sicily (1548-49), where he taught at the Jesuit college in Messina, can be seen as the culmination of the tertia probatio that he had undergone in Rome under Ignatius of Loyola. During that period, he had been trained and groomed by Ignatius, who had made him toe the Jesuit line through obedience and detachment. Just how the young man felt about all this is uncertain, although there are passages in his letters indicating that he found the various rites de passage difficult to bear. He in fact failed to achieve full detachment, for his love for his native Germany (in particular the lower Rhineland), could not be stifled. Ignatius then made a virtue of necessity by calling Canisius back from Sicily and sending him to Ingolstadt.
