Abstract:

Our global society is encountering different challenges of the twentyfirst century. Our cities are in the process of constant transformation influenced by urbanisation, globalisation, advanced technologies, environmental and ecological changes, social, political and economic crises. While corporative capitalism has flourished, world population is growing and our cities are sprawling, architecture is reaching almost utopian visions and the boundaries of aesthetics are becoming more and more loose and permeable. Today our contemporary society lives and acts aesthetically. From art, architecture, music, religion, politics, communication, technological gadgets, homes, gardens, clothes, cuisine to sport and life coaching, everything is a subject to aesthetical consideration. Aesthetical consideration of architecture and urbanism in a constantly changing world demands critical and interactive approaches, that will not only deal with theoretical aesthetic opinions, but also the practical ones. Accordingly, this paper seeks to discuss aesthetical problems of contemporary architecture and urban planning from global, environmental, technological and social points of view. Nature is no longer seen as a paradigmatic object of aesthetic experience, but as our unique collective environment upon which we humans depend. Therefore architecture emerges etic and aesthetic approaches in order to reconsider burden of our cities and possible ways of their future development.

Abstract:

Elevated levels of carbon dioxide increase lung ventilation in Helix aspersa. The hypercapnic response originates from a discrete respiratory chemosensory region in the dorsal subesophageal ganglia that contains CO2-sensitive neurons. We tested the hypothesis that pH-dependent inhibition of potassium channels in neurons in this region mediated the chemosensory response to CO2. Cells isolated from the dorsal subesophageal ganglia retained CO2 chemosensitivity and exhibited membrane depolarization and/or an increase in input resistance during an acid challenge. Isolated somata expressed two voltage-dependent potassium channels, an A-type and a delayed-rectifier-type channel ( IKA and IKDR). Both conductances were inhibited during hypercapnia. The pattern of voltage dependence indicated that IKA was affected by extracellular or intracellular pH, but the activity of IKDR was modulated by extracellular pH only. Application of inhibitors of either channel mimicked many of the effects of acidification in isolated cells and neurons in situ. We also detected evidence of a pH-sensitive calcium-activated potassium channel ( IKCa) in neurons in situ. The results of these studies support the hypothesis that IKA initiates the chemosensory response, and IKDR and IKCa prolong the period of activation of CO2-sensitive neurons. Thus multiple potassium channels are inhibited by acidosis, and the combined effect of pH-dependent inhibition of these channels enhances neuronal excitability and mediates CO2 chemosensory responses in H. aspersa. We did not find a single “chemosensory channel,” and the chemosensitive channels that we did find were not unique in any way that we could detect. The protein “machinery” of CO2 chemosensitivity is probably widespread among neurons, and the selection process whereby a neuron acts or does not act as a respiratory CO2 chemosensor probably depends on the resting membrane potential and synaptic connectivity.

Abstract:

We created a single-compartment computer model of a CO2 chemosensory neuron using differential equations adapted from the Hodgkin-Huxley model and measurements of currents in CO2 chemosensory neurons from Helix aspersa. We incorporated into the model two inward currents, a sodium current and a calcium current, three outward potassium currents, an A-type current ( IKA), a delayed rectifier current ( IKDR), a calcium-activated potassium current ( IKCa), and a proton conductance found in invertebrate cells. All of the potassium channels were inhibited by reduced pH. We also included the pH regulatory process to mimic the effect of the sodium-hydrogen exchanger (NHE) described in these cells during hypercapnic stimulation. The model displayed chemosensory behavior (increased spike frequency during acid stimulation), and all three potassium channels participated in the chemosensory response and shaped the temporal characteristics of the response to acid stimulation. pH-dependent inhibition of IKA initiated the response to CO2, but hypercapnic inhibition of IKDR and IKCa affected the duration of the excitatory response to hypercapnia. The presence or absence of NHE activity altered the chemosensory response over time and demonstrated the inadvisability of effective intracellular pH (pHi) regulation in cells designed to act as chemostats for acid-base regulation. The results of the model indicate that multiple channels contribute to CO2 chemosensitivity, but the primary sensor is probably IKA. pHi may be a sufficient chemosensory stimulus, but it may not be a necessary stimulus: either pHi or extracellular pH can be an effective stimuli if chemosensory neurons express appropriate pH-sensitive channels. The lack of pHi regulation is a key feature determining the neuronal activity of chemosensory cells over time, and the balanced lack of pHi regulation during hypercapnia probably depends on intracellular activation of pHi regulation but extracellular inhibition of pHi regulation. These general principles are applicable to all CO2 chemosensory cells in vertebrate and invertebrate neurons.

Abstract:

No art form so rigorously organises time as music. Whereas all art in some sense exists in time, music could be said to be of time. This article, however, questions implicit assumptions about the fundamental nature of time to music. In contrast, an alternative approach to the discourse of composition and analysis is proposed in which space rather than time is privileged. Russolo, Stockhausen, Cage and Agostino Di Scipio are cited as historical precedents where the status of time in music is questioned but a more detailed consideration is given to Ryoji Ikeda, a contemporary sound-art practitioner who, it is argued, represents a turn towards the privileging of space in contemporary music practice. This article argues that an approach to composition that implicitly accepts the primacy of time tends to privilege sounds that are more easily described symbolically, such as notated pitched sounds or materials with clear spectromorphological design. In contrast, an approach that places greater concern with the work in space facilitates the greater use of materials that could be considered ‘noise’, in the sense of both a broadband spectrum and signal disruption.

Abstract:

Although the sublime is commonly associated with nature, the historical determinants of this relation are frequently ignored. Art historians and curators who attempt to define a contemporary sublime often anachronistically link recent artworks with modern categories marked by a now contested representation of the world. Such is the case of the “natural sublime,” which emerged around the turn of the eighteenth century and exemplifies what Philippe Descola describes as a “naturalistic” cosmology characterized by a separation between Nature and Culture. Starting from a case study of two recent art installations associated with the sublime, namely The weather project (2003) by Olafur Eliasson and the series systematics and datamatics (2012) by Ryoji Ikeda, this article examines how these works reconfigure the relation between the subject and the world, in order to characterize the contemporaneity of their representation of the sublime. It suggests that these installations help reformulate our interpretation of it by emphasizing the power of technological and digital mediations to connect the human and the non-human worlds.

Radio-frequency glow discharge (rf-GD) sources produce an abundance of both atoms and ions. For the mass spectrometric application of the glow discharge technique, knowledge of the ion kinetic energies is required to optimize extraction and focusing of ions from the source region into the analyzer. This paper details kinetic energies experimentally determined with the use of the “retarding potential” method. For this study, the analyzer quadrupole of a double-quadrupole mass spectrometer was positively biased to act as a repeller. Ion kinetic energies (IKEs) determined for a variety of discharge and analyzer operating conditions ranged from 12.5 eV to 25.0 eV for 63Cu+. Kinetic energy measurements were confirmed from ion trajectory simulations and follow closely the experimental values for identical analyzer conditions and initial IKEs. Results of this study indicate that the conditions under which ions are formed (plasma conditions) affect IKEs and energy spreads to a greater extent than analyzer parameter variations. Different from atmospheric plasma sources, IKEs for rf-GD species do not vary as a function of ion mass/identity. Evidence is also given in support of a slight mass biasing owing to the transmission properties of double-quadrupole analyzers. The findings detailed herein demonstrate the effects of rf modulation on both ion kinetic energy values and distributions.

Abstract:

This article uses a social semiotic approach to look at the representations and designs of kitchens in the IKEA catalogue from 1975 until 2016. The authors find a shift from function to lifestyle of the order observed by scholars of advertising. But using Fairclough’s concepts of ‘technologization’ in Discourse and Social Change (1992) and Van Leeuwen’s New Writing (2006) concept, they are able to dig deeper to show that there are four stages of kitchen that become, they argue, more and more codified, with increasing prescription over the meaning of space and also regarding what takes place there. Such coding aligns with the ideas, values and identities of neoliberalism: ‘flexible’, ‘dynamic’, ‘creative’, ‘solutions’ and ‘self-management’. The authors show how the features of New Writing allow a suppression of actual causalities and context, and permit symbolic and indexical meanings to take over. Domestic life itself becomes technologized, coded and stripped down to a number of symbols and indexical meanings which assemble easily into the requirements of the neoliberal order.

“The tape recorder … creates above all new conditions of observations,” Pierre Schaeffer writes. This article picks up the theme of the link between listening and technology and asks how contemporary sound artworks reflect the relation between technology and perception. It suggests that many contemporary sound artworks explore the way digital culture conditions our listening acts. Based on a tentative analysis including works by Mihara et al., Zorio, Ikeda and Skjødt, the article argues that art lets us experience not only sound but also technological mediation, providing insight into how in the current digital culture we are constantly sharing our perception of the environment with nonhuman listening machines.

Bu çalışmada dünya ve Türkiye ticaretinde önemli bir yere sahip olan bazı tıbbi ve aromatik bitkilerin son beş yılına ait ithalat ve ihracat verileri sunulmuştur. Çalışma bulguları International Trade Center (ITC) ve Türkiye İstatistik Kurumu (TÜİK)’ndan elde edilen istatiksel veriler kullanılarak hazırlanmıştır. Tıbbi ve aromatik bitkiler ve bu bitkilerden imal edilen ürünlerin ticaretine ilişkin verilerin 2001 yılı itibariyle Comtrade (International Trade Center-ITC) veri tabanında yer aldığı görülmüştür. Dünya tıbbi ve aromatik bitkiler ve bunlardan elde edilen ürünlerin ihracat değeri 2001 yılında 48.7 milyar dolar iken, 2019 yılında bu değer 207.5 milyar dolara yükselmiştir. İthalat değerinde de aynı artış trendi yakalanmış olup 2001 yılında 48.9 milyar dolar olan değer 2019 yılında yaklaşık olarak dört kat artarak 205.9 milyar dolar olarak gerçekleşmiştir. Dünyada görülen artış eğilimi Türkiye dış ticaretinde de gözlenmiştir. Türkiye’de tıbbi ve aromatik bitkiler ve ürünlerinin ihracat değeri 2001 yılında 143.6 milyon dolar iken, 2019 yılında 1.02 milyar dolara, ithalat değeri ise 2001 yılında 282.7 milyon dolar iken, 2019 yılında 1.36 milyar dolara yükselmiştir. Ülkemizde tıbbi ve aromatik bitkiler ve ürünlerinin ihraç değerleri genel olarak değerlendirildiğinde yıllar itibariyle en önemli artış uçucu yağlar ve rezinoitler, parfümeri, kozmetik vd. ürün grubunda gerçekleşmiştir. Bu ürün grubuna ilişkin ihraç değerleri 2001-2019 yılları arasında 83.6 milyon dolardan 829.4 milyon dolara ulaşmıştır.

Abstract:

Abstract This study examines the effect of an unusual “certain death” warning message on Galveston, Harris, and Jefferson County, Texas, residents’ expectations of storm surge damage and evacuation decisions during Hurricane Ike. The effect of this message was tested by comparing questionnaire data collected after Hurricane Ike to similar data collected 3 yr earlier after Hurricane Rita. If the certain death message had an effect, one would expect nonsignificant differences in perceptions of the two storms’ surge threats because the category 2 storm (Ike) had a surge that was more characteristic of a category 5 storm (Rita). However, the ratings of the storm surge threat for Ike were significantly lower than those for Rita in Galveston County—the point of landfall. Moreover, evacuation rates for Ike were consistently lower than those for Rita in all three counties, and there were no statistically significant differences between storms in the correlations of expected storm surge damage with evacuation decisions. In summary, these data fail to show evidence that the dramatic certain death warning increased expectations of surge threat and evacuation decisions. These findings underscore the need for those disseminating weather warnings to better understand how hurricane warnings flow from an initial source through intermediate links to the ultimate receivers as well as how these ultimate receivers receive, heed, interpret, and decide how to act upon those warnings.

Abstract:

Abstract Adult hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) are defined by their ability to undergo self-renewal and maintain the capacity to generate all of the mature hematopoietic cell types within the blood and immune system. These unique qualities make the HSC clinically useful in bone marrow (BM) transplantation settings for a wide variety of hematological diseases. It has been demonstrated that maintenance of the HSC is dependent upon the cell-intrinsic properties of the HSC itself, as well as the extrinsic properties of the BM microenvironment. Within the hematopoietic microenvironment, we have shown that endothelial cells (ECs) are indispensable in supporting HSC self-renewal and differentiation into lineage-committed progeny during regenerative hematopoiesis. Furthermore, we have demonstrated that Akt signaling endows ECs with the capacity to instructively support HSC self-renewal through the expression of pro-hematopoietic angiocrine factors during homeostasis and hematopoietic regeneration following myelosuppressive stress. However, despite advances in the understanding of HSC biology, the exact mechanisms that regulate the balance between self-renewal and lineage-specific differentiation are still unknown. In order to expand our understanding of the body’s vascular network in regulating HSCs and hematopoietic regeneration, we have now focused on identifying the downstream signaling pathways of Akt within ECs that are responsible for the production of the pro-hematopoietic angiocrine factors. Because of the strong supporting data demonstrating that NF-kB signaling regulates hematopoietic function, we have focused on the Akt/NF-kB signaling axis in the vascular niche and demonstrated that inhibition of NF-kB within ECs results in a significant expansion of functional HSCs. Inhibition of the NF-kB pathway by expression of an IkBa super suppressor (IkBa-SS) via lentiviral transduction in primary ECs resulted in the expansion of phenotypic HSCs, while blocking differentiation of progenitor cells in vitro with an increase in the functional potential of the expanded HSCs. Utilizing a transgenic mouse model (Tie2.IkBa-SS) in which the NF-kB signaling pathway is inhibited specifically in ECs, we found that there was a significant increase in phenotypic and functional HSCs in vivo. Endothelial-specific inhibition of NF-kB signaling resulted in an increase in HSC quiescence and serial administration of low-dose chemotherapeutic agents resulted in an increase in self-renewal activity, suggesting that suppressing NF-kB signaling in ECs controls hematopoiesis by preventing premature exhaustion of the HSC pool. Following hematopoietic insult, Tie2.IkBa-SS mice undergo a rapid recovery of hematopoiesis and the hematopoietic system is largely protected following myelosuppression when compared to controls. Gene profiling of freshly isolated BM ECs from Tie2.IkBa-SS mice suggests that the enhancement of functional hematopoiesis is, in part, due to BM ECs upregulating pro-HSC angiocrine factors, as well as suppressing the production of cytokines and growth factors responsible for eliciting inflammatory responses, forcing the differentiation of HSCs. Furthermore, transplantation of BM ECs isolated from Tie2.IkB-SS mice significantly enhanced overall hematopoietic recovery following an LD50 dose of myeloablation, suggesting that transplantation of ECs could have tremendous therapeutic potential in mitigation the side effects of myeloablative injury by decreasing the morbidity and mortality associated with hematopoietic insults. In conclusion, our data demonstrates that the IkBa-dependent NF-kB pathway in ECs can regulate the production of pro-hematopoietic angiocrine factors that promote the maintenance and expansion of the HSC pool. Additionally, we have potentially unlocked a novel therapeutic application for the transplantation of genetically modified BM ECs following myeloablative treatment. Nice sisteminde sınıf içeriklerinin marka koruması üzerindeki etkisi, özellikle hizmet sınıflarının içeriklerinin yoğun olarak tartışılmasını doğurmaktadır. Bir hizmet sınıfı olarak 35.sınıf zaten içeriği somutlaştırılmaya çalışan bir sınıf iken, güncel haliyle 35.05 alt grubunda yer alan “perakende satış hizmetleri” adıyla anılan hizmetlerin içeriği, 2011 yılından sonraki değişikliklerden sonra daha da tartışmalı bir hale dönüşmüştür. Özellikle perakende satış hizmetleri alt grubunun içeriğine yerleştirilen sınıflar, bu konudaki tartışmanın odağını teşkil etmektedir. Bu tartışmada 35.05.alt grubu içerisinde tescil edilmiş mal sınıflarının marka sahibine, başkaları tarafından ana sınıf olarak aynı veya benzer markayla tesciline ya da yine diğer 35.05 alt gruplarında başkalarınca yapılan sınıf yerleştirmelerine müdahale hakkı verip vermediği farklı görüşlerce değerlendirilmektedir. Bunun yanı sıra mal sınıflarında tescilli marka sahiplerinin, 35.05. alt grubunu tescil etmeden, aynı markayla ürün satışı yapıp yapamayacağı da uygulamadaki çatışmalardan birini teşkil etmektedir. Diğer deyişle “perakende satış hizmetleri” kavramının diğer sınıflarla olan sınır çizgisi belirlenmeye çalışılmaktadır. Bu çizginin tespitinde özellikle “perakende satış hizmetleri”nin anlamı değerlendirilmeye muhtaçtır.

Çalışma, hemşirelik oryantasyon programı dahilinde gerçekleştirilen kardiyovasküler modül eğitiminin etkinliğini değerlendirmek amacıyla yapıldı. Yöntem: Tanımlayıcı ve retrospektif olarak tasarlanan araştırmanın evrenini 138 hemşirenin veri kayıtları oluşturdu. Çalışma, JCI standartları doğrultusunda hazırlanmış bir hastanenin oryantasyon programı dahilinde gerçekleştirildi. Hemşirelere ait demografik veriler kurum kayıtlardan elde edilirken, hemşirelerin eğitim öncesi ve sonrası kardiyovasküler bilgi düzeyi ise 25 soruyu içeren ön test-son test puanlarından hesaplandı. Her soru dört puan üzerinden toplam 100 puan olarak değerlendirildi. Veriler SPSS 17.0 programında, tanımlayıcı istatistik, ANOVA ve bağımlı örneklerde t testi kullanılarak belirlendi. Bulgular: Çalışmaya dahil edilen hemşirelerin yaş ortalaması 24.0±3.1 (19-37 yaş) bulundu. Çalışmaya katılanların %68.1’ini (n=94) lisans mezunu hemşireler oluştururken, %55.1’i (n=76) daha önce herhangi bir kurumda çalışmadığını bildirdi. Ön testten alınan puanların ortalaması 58.5±15.1 iken, son test puanlarının ortalaması 89.4±10.3 olarak saptandı. Alt gruplara göre yapılan analizlerin tamamında kardiyovasküler modül eğitimin etkili olduğu belirlendi. Sonuç: Oryantasyon programlarında yer alan kardiyovasküler modül eğitimlerin kardiyovasküler kliniklerde (yetişkin ve pediatrik) görev alacak hemşirelerin eğitim düzeyini arttırdığı görüldü.

Bu çalışma, nohut genetik kaynaklarında imidazolinone grubu herbisitlere dayanıklılık için genetik varyasyonun belirlenmesi amacıyla, 2019-2020 yıllarında GAP Tarımsal Araştırma Enstitüsü Müdürlüğü’ne ait Koruklu-Talat Demirören Araştırma İstasyonu’nda yürütülmüştür. Araştırmada bitki materyali olarak kültürü yapılan nohut türünün tek yıllık yabani formlarına ait, Güneydoğu Anadolu Bölgesi’nden toplanan 238 adet nohut genotipi (165 Cicer reticulatum, 72 adet Cicer echinospermum, 1 adet Cicer arietinum L.) kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda seçilen 15 genotip kendi aralarında değerlendirildiğinde bütün parametreler (100 tohum ağırlığı hariç) istatistiki olarak önemli (p<0.01) bulunmuştur. IMI uygulaması genotiplerde çiçeklenme ve olgunlaşma sürelerini uzatmıştır. IMI uygulanan genotiplerde bitki taç genişliği ortalama 8.01 cm2 olurken kontrolde 19.78 cm2 olmuştur. Uygulama yapılan genotiplerde verim ortalaması 71.60 kg/da iken kontrollerde ortalama 287.34 kg/da olmuştur.

Bu çalışma, İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyesi sınırları içinde yer alan ve dış mekân spor aletlerinin yerleştirildiği; Beylikdüzü, Gürpınar, Çamlıca, Emirgan, Maçka ve Yıldız Parkları’nda yürütülmüştür. Bu alanları kullanan bireylerin profillerini belirlemek, aletlerle ilgili katılım ve beklentileri incelemek amacıyla anket çalışması yapılmıştır. Ankette; demografik yapı, egzersiz alanı ve egzersiz aletlerinin kullanımı olmak üzere üç başlık altında toplamda 41 soru sorulmuştur. Açık yeşil alanlarda yer alan dış mekân spor aletlerinden bireylerin yararlandığı ve memnun oldukları görülmektedir. Ankete katılan halkın %72 si bu uygulamadan memnun iken, % 28’i memnun olmadığını belirtmiştir. En fazla memnuniyet %76 ile Beylikdüzün’de iken, en az memnuniyet % 34 ile Emirgan’da tespit edilmiştir. Belediyeye ait açık yeşil alanlarda kurulan bu aletleri kullanıcıların; kilo verme ya da kilosunu kontrol altında tutma, fiziksel görünüşünü iyileştirme ve sosyal imajını geliştirmek gibi dış görünüşe yönelik nedenlerden ötürü kullandıkları tespit edilmiştir. Kişilerin ruhsal ve fiziksel sağlığına katkıda bulunan bu etkinliklerden beklenen faydanın sağlanması için bir takım önlemlerin alınması gerekmektedir. Bu önlemler alındığında, mevcut açık yeşil alanlardaki spor aletlerinin daha doğru ve etkin bir şekilde kullanımı sağlanacaktır. Etkin ve verimli kullanılan açık yeşil alanlarının toplum sağlığına katkısı yanında insanların serbest zamanlarını daha verimli kullanımlarına da katkısı olacaktır.

Abstract:

In this study, the protective effects of succinyl rotundic acids on alcoholic hepatitis in irradiated rats as well as the effects of Bcl-2-Bax-caspase-3 and the NF-kB signal pathways were studied. SD rats were divided into four groups randomly: normal; model; and succinyl rotundic acid low-, middle-, and high-dose groups. Distilled water, 60% ethanol and 60% ethanol +SRA, respectively, were given for 30 days. ELISA was used to measure serum levels of LDH, AST, ALT, NOS, NO, MDA, GSH and TG. Western blotting was used to measure protein levels of Bcl-2, Bax, caspase-3, NF-kB p 65, IKBA, HO-1, Nrf2 and CYP2E1. Compared with the model group, LDH, AST, ALT, NOS, NO, MDA and TG levels were lower in serum of low-, middle-, and high-dose groups (P < 0.01, P < 0.05 and P < 0.05 in all); GSH content was greater in serum of low-, middle- and high-dose groups (P < 0.05). Levels of Bcl-2, HO-1, and Nrf2 were greater (P < 0.01 in all); those of Bax, caspase-3, NF-kB p65, IKBA, and CYP2E1 were lower (P < 0.01 and P < 0.001 in all). These findings suggest that succinyl rotundic acid reduces inflammatory reactions by reducing levels of NOS and NO, regulating levels of Bcl-2, Bax, caspase-3, NF-kB, and anti-oxidative stress pathways, and has an antagonistic effect on alcoholic liver injury. The agent has potential to treat clinical alcoholic liver disease. © 2021 Friends Science Publishers

Professor Masami Ikeda, Jumonji University, and Associate Professor Koji Miyamoto, Tokyo Kasei University, are collaborating to create a moral critical thinking workbook. The goal is to address Japan's policy aims, as well as the current lack of critical thinking teaching in schools. The researchers are emphasising the importance of moral thinking centred on critical thinking to build a rich symbiotic relationship. With the Japanese state's drive for the 'Moral Education of Thinking and Discussion', this is now being taught as a new class in schools, which prompted Ikeda and Miyamoto to look at how morality is, and can be further, linked to critical thinking. The researchers are also interested in cognitive bias and are seeking to make people more aware of their personal biases. Ikeda and Miyamoto have conducted trial classes and large-scale questionnaires in order to acquire evidence for their novel moral thinking approach. The cut and thrust of this paper is the re-examination of an age long belief and practice among the Ika people of Delta State and the Obolo of Rivers State which is aimed at discouraging the practice of witchcraft and sorcery. The study critically evaluates the phenomenon which includes necromancy, divination and poison ordeal and concludes that caution is needed as the act which involves human life is not without imperfection. The discourse is comparative as it examines the methods of ascertaining death among the Ika and Obolo. It employs moral, social and philosophical springboards for the analysis. Some of the findings includes: belief in witchcraft is very strong among the people and age long practices to eradicate same will endure, if nothing is done to discourage it. Abstract This article aims at sketching a philosophical theory of sound based on the perspective of sound designers: unique agents blurring the boundaries between engineering, music, acoustics and sound-based art. After having introduced the general framing in Section 1, focusing on a short history of the theory and practice of sound design, in Section 2 we propose a reading of sound as monad. We derive such intuition from the technology of digital sampling of audio signals, based on the decomposition of complex sound waves in a number of elementary sinusoidal waves. Thus, in Section 3, we attempt at grounding the resulting “sound-atom” on Leibniz’s notion of monad, intended both as a “simple substance without parts” and as a “nucleus of forces in statu possibilitatis.” The insight is resumed and further discussed in Section 4, where we draw our conclusions by demonstrating the fitness of such framing with regards to the standpoint of sound design, while accounting for the work of sound artists Carsten Nicolai and Ryoji Ikeda.

Araştırmaya katılan üniversite öğrencilerinin gençlik liderlik özelliklerinin ve öz güven düzeylerinin orta seviyede olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Bacurau is the name of a city in Brazilian hinterland whose inhabitants fight to survive a foreign invasion. The struggle of native populations for the right to remain on their land is a common motif not only in the history of cinema, as in classic Westerns, but also in Brazilian culture and history, In this article, Ikeda proposes that Bacurau’s originality lies in how it seeks to establish a balance between genre film and political cinema, eschewing the commodified exotic spectacle of Sérgio Rezende’s The Battle of Canudos (1997) and Glauber Rocha’s radical political allegory in Black God, White Devil (1964), in order to offer a more complex commentary on the current Brazilian historical moment.

Abstract:

Indonesia is a house of culture. Many tribes, language, art and traditional culture spread in the Indonesian regions. All of these have become a motto of Indonesia that is unity in diversity or Bhinneka Tunggal Ika. In relation to arts, it is recognized that before colonialism, Indonesia has several indigenous scripts in which the root of this typeface originating from south Indian. After colonialism, however, these indigenous scripts in Indonesia started to shifting direction to modern typeface. As a result, these indigenous scripts become endangered. In the meantime, the modern typeface is growing sustainable until nowadays. This research paper aims to design digital typefaces application with Lampung and north Sumatra local wisdom adaptation. The method in this research is descriptive analysis with typography approach. The result in this research is the production of digital typefaces with local wisdom forms which can be installed in computer.

Bu çalışmada ürün bazında marka bağıntısının öncülleri ve bu öncüllerin etki güçleri incelenmiştir. Yapılan ampirik araştırmada cep telefonu ve gündelik kıyafet ürünlerine ait marka bağıntısı değerleri için Türkiye’deki bir devlet üniversitesinde okuyan öğrencilerden veri toplanmıştır. Çalışmanın verileri soru kağıdı ile yüzyüze toplanmış, çoklu doğrusal regresyon yöntemi kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Bulgulara göre marka bağıntısının en güçlü öncülü risk azaltmadır. Bunu sırasıyla bilgi sağlama maliyeti ve sosyal kimlik izlemektedir. Öz kimlik işlevi ise cep telefonu için en zayıf öncül iken gündelik kıyafet için marka bağıntısını etkilememektedir. Diğer yandan, cep telefonu için ölçülen marka bağıntısı değeri gündelik kıyafet için bulunan değere göre daha yüksektir. Bu çalışma, tüketici pazarındaki belirli ürünler için öz kimlik ve sosyal kimlik işlevlerinin marka bağıntısını ayrı ayrı etkileyebileceğini göstermektedir.

Abstract:

Purpose As a result of the US JOBS Act, Regulation Crowdfnding went into effect in June of 2017, allowing non-accredited investors in the US for the first time to purchase securities in local start-ups. Ahead of the JOBS Act, Kansas established its own intrastate initiative in 2011, known as the Invest Kansas Exemption (IKE, 2011). The purpose of this paper is to explore how IKE participants describe the social and communal impact on their community crowdfunding success. Design/methodology/approach For this qualitative case study, we interviewed start-up businesses, economic champions, and SEC representatives in Kansas to determine the importance of social networks for entrepreneurs in offline community public offerings, what projects are fundable, and who to tap for capital and how to tap them. Findings Leaning heavily on social capital theory (Davidsson & Honig, 2003; Lin, Ensel, & Vaughn, 1981), we find that a successful community crowdfunding campaign requires community connections, economic champions, destination businesses, forward-thinkers, return to the community, and transparency. Limitations While the federal JOBS Act will present future opportunities for research, this study aimed to find social motivations behind participating in a regulation crowdfunding campaign, and is limited to participants in one US state. Implications The study provides insight into the social and communal aspect of crowdfunding investors, helping to expand further academic understanding of social capital as it pertains to business start-ups. Contribution This original study should be of broad interest to the social business academic community interested in understanding the social motivations of investing in a microlending campaign, as well as of practical relevance to entrepreneurs, and to community leaders who may seek those investors.

Türk sanatında folklorik öğeler arama düşüncesi ile yola çıkılan bu çalışmada görülmüştür ki, özellikle Türk resim sanatında, heykel sanatına oranla daha fazla makale ve kitaplara ve halk bilimi olarak da bilinen folklora ait unsurlara ulaşılabilmiştir. Resimde özellikle Anadolu halkı, toplumsal ve günlük konular, gelenek ve görenekler, köy, köylü hayatı, köy kadınları ve çocuklar gibi temalara ait çok sayıda resim örneğine rastlanmıştır. Heykel sanatında bir konu belirleme çabası, çoğunlukla olduğu gibi işleri zorlaştıran bir uğraşa dönüşebilmektedir; kaynakların az olması, heykel sanatıyla ilgili hep aynı kaynakların varlığı ve kaynaklara ulaşmada kimi zaman sıkıntı çekme ve elbette heykelde çalışma yapan kişilerin daha az olması bunu tetikleyen unsurlar arasındadır. Bu konuyu oluştururken bulunan araştırma kaynakları, bizleri kendi kendine yönlendirmiş, ilk etapta heykel sanatçılarımızın tarihsel sıralaması göz önünde bulundurulmak istense de, çalışmaya folklorik bir düzlem üzerinden başlanmasına karar kılınmıştır. Böylelikle ister istemez heykel sanatında tarihsel sıralamadan çıkılmaktadır. Bir konu üzerine değinen heykel sanatçısı, daha sonra hayli hazırda ismi geçmiş iken başka hangi folklorik temayı işlediyse ona geçilmiş, çalışma da bu girift düzlem üzerine dizayn edilerek devam ettirilmiştir.

Mathematical learning is abstract. A learning innovation is needed by considering aspects of daily life so abstract mathematical concepts can be understood by students. Mathematics and culture are two interrelated things, the bridge between the two is called ethnomatematics. The focus of the research is on the 6 main elements of Reyog Tulungagung. This research is a qualitative research with ethnographic approach. The results of research in the form of mathematical ideas which are found based on the physical form of Reyog Tulungagung art elements, including: (1) mathematical ideas in gong, namely circles, arcing curved spaces, volumes of rotating objects, and symmetry; (2) mathematical ideas on the selompret, namely construct curved side spaces, rotating objects volume, and symmetry; (3) mathematical ideas on kenong namely circles, build curved side spaces, and rotary object volumes; (4) mathematical ideas on iker namely lines, circumference of circles, and symmetry; (5) mathematical ideas on dhodhog, that are circles, arcing curves, volume of rotating objects, triangles, and one-to-one correspondence; (6) mathematical ideas on goseng namely counting and arithmetic (addition and multiplication). In addition there is also a mathematical idea of how to play musical instruments, namely repetitive patterns.
