We live in a world of near continuous monitoring. In our automobiles we monitor the status of fuel, oil pressure, temperature, and seat belts through gauges, lights, and electronic voices. The consumption of electricity and fuel in our homes is monitored as is the chlorine in our drinking water and the alcohol in our beer. Manufacturers retain quality assurance inspectors and issue warrantees and guarantees to convince us that all is well. We monitor our schools and measure our own progress through grades and proficiency scores. It seemed appropriate, therefore, that the Illinois Natural Histo

A variety of cooperative relaying schemes are designed for the single-carrier frequency-division multiple-access (SC-FDMA) uplink, when communicating over broadband wireless channels. Our goal is to reduce the battery power dissipated both by transmission and signal processing, so that the overall energy-efficiency may be increased. We assume that there are a number of inactive mobile terminals acting as potential relays, which have either fixed or time-variant positions in a cell. Our investigations are focused on the optimum exploitation of all the resources, when considering relay selection

AbstractThe early measuring of the software process attributes increases the chances of the software being cost-effective and energy-efficient. However, some of the crucial metrics are accessible only during the latter stages. Therefore, the set of measurements through the whole SDLC should be considered to evaluate the software development process attributes and lead the project to success. This chapter demonstrates the division of SDLC phases into early and late ones, different software quality evaluation methodologies, and a set of measurements.
