Abstract:
The proposed master thesis deals with design and implementation of application for editing of raster graphics for Android operating system. First of all, an overview of available software is shown. Based upon this overview, requirements for implemented software are formulated. Required theoretical knowledge providing foundation for implemented functions is summarized in the next chapter. Further Android operating system is introduced with respect to its deployment and other specific characteristics, which have direct impact on application development. The following part describes implemented application from end user perspective. User interface is described here together with application features. The last chapter is focused on implementation of created software – separation to single modules and class responsibilities. Appendices contain examples of application usage.

Abstract:
Both popular and scholarly observers have portrayed New Orleans as a city both supported and burdened by its image as a diverse cultural other within the American South, historically tolerant of certain sins of the flesh. This image has been used by proponents and critics alike in order to push their respective agenda regarding the Crescent City. This thesis will not seek to discredit this image that is based largely on fact. However, using Prohibition as a case study, this thesis will use letters to the editor to uncover attitudes of New Orleanians in opposition to this reputation to reveal alternative and historically silenced voices of New Orleans, since for instance people of a certain age, gender, or ethnicity were silenced in the halls of government. This paper will reveal the opinions of New Orleanians regarding Prohibition and what these opinions can tell us about New Orleans’s image.

Abstract:
This paper will explore the possibilities of using an automated self-made procedural tool to create real-time environments based on simple image masks. The purpose of this is to enable a concept artist or level designer to quickly get out results in a game engine and to be able to explore ideas. The goal of this thesis was to better understand how you can break down simple ideas and shapes into more complex details and assets. In the first part of this thesis, I go over the traditional workflow of creating a real-time environment. I then go on and break down my tool, what it does and how it works. I start off with a Photoshop file, make tools in Houdini and then utilize those in Unreal for the end result. I also argument about the time-saving possibilities with these tools. From the work, I draw the conclusion that these kinds of tools save a lot of time for repeating tasks and the creation of similar environments.

Abstract:
This thesis deals with practical solutions of software for retinal images digital processing. The theoretic part describes human eye and retinal anatomy and also glaucoma disease. It is also focused on description of method for retinal nerve fiber layer enhancement and analysis. These enhancement are then used for designing of automated image processing. One chapter is devoted to detection and analysis of retinal nerve fibers layer. The practical part includes the user manual for application Image Blockz, which was established within this thesis. Further practical part contains the programmer's manual describing the basic structure of the program and its possible extensions.

Abstract:
This term project deals with creating visual tool for building image processing applications that is performed using the graphical interconnection of functional blocks. Graphical interconnection is realised by so-called node editor that is implemented in Qt framework. This framework is used across the project - for the user interface and management of dynamic libraries. OpenCV library is used as the basis for image processing, this tool can be extended to other methods of image processing using plugins included in the dynamic libraries. The tool interprets the proposed application, the proposal application is supported by the preview mode of the change in real time. The tool also contains a history of actions (Undo/Redo system).

Doutoramento em Informação e Comunicação em Plataformas Digitais<br>Na era da convergência jornalística, as redações televisivas estão, ainda, a passar por diversos processos de transformações. Centrando esta problemáti-ca nos telejornalistas, verifica-se uma tendência crescente para que estes de-sempenhem funções e/ou tarefas que ainda há muito pouco tempo eram exe-cutadas por outros profissionais da informação televisiva. Esta agregação fun-cional verifica-se, nomeadamente, ao nível da edição de imagem de conteúdos noticiosos a serem transmitidos pela televisão. Neste contexto, na presente tese de doutoramento pretende-se, em termos gerais, apurar e compreender as causas e as consequências de serem os próprios jornalistas televisivos a desempenhar a edição de imagem de conteúdos noticiosos transmitidos pela televisão. Para isso, foi desenvolvida uma investigação empírica, tendo como campos de estudo as redações centrais da SIC e da TVI. Tal como o trabalho de campo permitiu concluir, os diversos fundamen-tos desta dinâmica são, de certa forma, incontornáveis. Contudo, esta investi-gação pretende também contribuir para que se reúnam as condições, ao nível da oferta formativa, que tornem as respetivas consequências consonantes com uma evolução profícua da atividade jornalística.<br>In the era of journalistic convergence, television newsrooms are still undergoing various processes of transformation. There is a growing trend for news anchors to perform functions and/or tasks that until very recently were performed by other television professionals. This accumulation occurs, in particular, at the level of editing video news content for broadcasting. In this context, and in gen-eral terms, this doctoral thesis aims to research and understand the causes and consequences resulting from the fact that news anchors are now editing video news content for broadcasting. Thus, our empirical research took place in the newsrooms of SIC and TVI. The results of the aforementioned fieldwork highlighted that this accu-mulation dynamics are somehow unavoidable. Thus, this research also intends to contribute to the improvement of educational resources, helping them evolve according to the current trends, therefore improving television journalism.

Sua atuação na editora do Rio de Janeiro foi marcada pela versatilidade de recursos visuais e pela ampla liberdade concedida pelo editor Ênio Silveira. No mesmo período produziu capas para a editora Globo, de Porto Alegre, em quantidade muito inferior, mas com a mesma liberdade e qualidade. Após passagem pelos EUA, Hirsch foi contratado pela editora madrilenha Codex como diretor de arte da Coleção Museus do Mundo, e retornou ao Brasil no final dos anos 1960, passando a trabalhar para a Livraria José Olympio Editora. Esta dissertação tem como tema central a relação entre o lettering e as imagens no trabalho de Hirsch. Essa relação é estudada a partir da análise das capas de livros produzidas por Hirsch entre 1959 e 1976. Dentro dessa amostragem abrangente são identificadas as características mais marcantes e recorrentes do desenho de letras nas capas do designer austríaco. Também é apresentada uma pequena amostra da produção de alguns capistas que atuaram no Brasil nas décadas de 1930, 1940 e 1950, fornecendo uma visão mais acurada da importância do trabalho de Eugênio Hirsch.<br>Abstract: Eugênio Hirsch (Vienna, 1923 - Rio de Janeiro, 2001) is best known by his work for the publishing house Civilização Brasileira in the first half of the 1960s, wich was marked by a large range of visual resources used with great freedom granted to him by editor Ênio Silveira. In the same period he made book covers for Globo, a publishing house based on the city of Porto Alegre. Although less expressive in number, these covers kept the same quality and freedom. After a short period in the USA, Hirsch was hired by Madri based publishing house Codex as art director, being responsible for El Mundo de los Museus collection. When returning to Brazil in the end of the 1960s, he begun to work for Livraria José Olympio Editora, in Rio de Janeiro. This research is centered in the relation between letters and images in Hirsch's book covers. This relation is studied by analizing the book covers made by Hirsch between 1959 and 1976. In this wide sampling, the most relevant and recurring caractheristics related to lettering and type in Hirsch's work are identified. Also presented is a sample of the graphic work done by some cover artists that had worked in Brazil during the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s, allowing a more accurate perception of the importance of Eugênio Hirsch's work.<br>Doutorado<br>Artes<br>Doutor em Artes

Partindo dessa experiência propõe-se distinguir a natureza dos diferentes tipos de edição praticados nas diversas publicações: periódicas, colectâneas e estudos importantes para o município, publicidade e sites. A reflecção abrange concepções universais, tais como a de autor e leitor, tentando metonimicamente expor a sua relevância editorial quando estes adquirem a especificidade conceptual de município e munícipe, respectivamente. Neste sentido, intenta-se explorar as características próprias deste tipo de edição local a partir não só da reflexão dos seus objectivos, mas também do estatuto daqueles que a concretizam e do seu público-alvo. Para além disto, pretende-se também explorar as metodologias editoriais empregues, principalmente no que diz respeito ao papel da revisão, e quais as nuanças que esta adquire quando inserida num cenário de edição local, sendo a vigilante da uniformização institucional.

A la frontiere entre deux tendances litteraires, le naturalisme, d'une part, l'ecriture de l'introspection d'autre part, edith wharton met au centre de son oeuvre romanesque la question de la representation: referentielle ou figurale, l'image "traverse les textes et les change ; traverses par elle, les textes la transforment" (louis marin, des pouvoirs de l'image). Heritiere declaree des romanciers francais du dix-neuvieme siecle autant que de l'amateur d'art britannique john ruskin, la romanciere americaine fait la part belle aux images d'architecture, litterales ou metaphoriques, particulierement aptes a designer un univers fondamentalement "strie" par la rectitude des edifices et la rigueur des traditions bourgeoises. Imitee par les parvenus, l'architecture du "vieux new york" prend des allures de decor de theatre dans lequel viennent s'exposer les corps feminins, suggestifs et denudes, palimpsestes aux transparences inquietantes et peut-etre vides de sens. Ce sens, cette essence, a charge pour le focalisateur de les decouvrir derriere les tableaux vivants ou figes qui se presentent a lui ou surgissent sous forme de reminiscences. A l'instar du narrateur proustien ou jamesien, les reflecteurs whartoniens laissent libre cours a la "memoire involontaire" dont les jaillissements prennent souvent le pas sur le reel. Comme pour compenser la faillite d'un langage qui n'enonce qu'un message entendu, le sujet whartonien deploie sa fantasmagorie intime, prenant pour objet l'autre et son etrangete fondamentale ou les meandres de sa propre psyche: la "vision" est tour a tour l'outil ou le resultat d'une exploration, celle d'un abime qui n'en finit pas de degorger ses images<br>Half way between the naturalist and the introspective literary traditions, edith wharton particularly emphasizes the question of representation : whether taken literally or figuratively, the image "traverse les textes et les change; traverses par elle, les textes la transforment" ( louis marin, des pouvoirs de l'image). Thoroughly influenced by the nineteenth century french novelists, as well as by john ruskin, the british art critic, edith wharton first uses architectural images to epitomise the strictly codified world in which her characters evolve. Yet, this meaningful architecture loses its meaningfulness when copied by the "nouveaux riches", and becomes a mere theatrical setting for the exhibition of female bodies which become disconcerting "fles palimpsests" for edith wharton's reflectors. Wharton's focalisers are forever wondering whether the real world they are confonted with is not just an image reflected upon their own conscience or whether their composite vision is not "more real than reality". Edith wharton's novels are therefore broadly composed of the characters' own reconstructions of a basically subjective and even sometimes introspective reality. Conjured up at crucial moments of the narrative, the reflectors' "inner pictures" serve as a substitute for the unspeakable "horror" metaphorically represented by the gorgon image

Tese de Mestrado em Design de Moda<br>O presente trabalho desenvolve-se no âmbito do Design de Moda, Produção de Moda e Imprensa de Moda (revistas) e tem como tema a influência da imprensa escrita no campo disciplinar. Pretende-se analisar, interpretar, reflectir e obter indicações sobre o modo como a Vogue americana, mais concretamente a sua directora/editora-chefe, Anna Wintour, através da publicação das revista e dos seus conteúdos, assim como pela sua orientação editorial, tem influenciado, difundido, promovido e transformado a indústria de produtos de moda, condicionando os criadores e, simultaneamente, o comportamento dos consumidores. O desenvolvimento tecnológico dos meios de captação e de difusão de imagens – nomeadamente a fotografia digital -, tornou estes recursos técnicos em instrumentos eficazes de sedução dos públicos-alvo. Com um controle quase impossível de exercer sobre as imagens produzidas, o mundo em que vivemos transformou-se num mundo dominado pelas imagens, imagens que substituíram o texto como forma dominante de cultura, mas que se constituem, também como narrativas. No intuito de ultrapassar a concorrência, a Vogue americana desenvolve estratégias centradas na sua imagem como “vitrine/montra” de moda, promovendo ou despromovendo criadores e produtos de moda, levantando questões que giram à volta do trabalho das revistas de moda e da possível interferência das suas directoras na independência dos criadores. Anna Wintour, a directora/editora-chefe da Vogue, é a papisa que decide o que deve constar na bíblia da moda? Quem dita a moda? As editoras de moda, os criadores, os fotógrafos? A colaboração dos fotógrafos Mário Testino e Patrick Demarchelier na execução da capa e da produção fotográfica colour blocking para o famoso September Issue de 2007 (840 páginas), sob a direcção de Anna Wintour, cujo processo de composição/elaboração está na origem de um documentário com o mesmo título, são analisadas como estudo exemplificativo da relação entre a moda e as estratégias de imagem - que envolve celebridades, algumas vindas da indústria cinematográfica, introduzidas de modo inovador e apelativo nas capas e nas produções fotográficas da Vogue - assim como o papel/poder de Anna Wintour nele espelhado.<br>This study develops around the subject of fashion design, styling and fashion press (magazines). Its central theme is on the influence of fashion magazines in the area. It aims to analyse, interpret, reflect and obtain clues about how the fashion press, more precisely the American Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, has influenced, shared out, promoted and transformed the industry of fashion products and simultaneously constrained fashion designers as well as consumers’ behaviour. The technological advance in the means of capturing and spreading images – such as the digital photography – transformed these technical resources in efficient instruments of manipulation/seduction of the target audience. With an almost unfeasible control over the images produced, the world we live in has been transformed into a world dominated by images. The former have replaced text as the dominant form of culture but they have also become narratives. So as to overcome competition, the American Vogue has developed its image centred strategies acting as a ‘shop-window’ of fashion, endorsing or not endorsing fashion designers and fashions products. This has led fashion consumers to wonder about the role of fashion magazines and the interference of editors-in-chief in the autonomy of fashion designers. Is Anna Wintour, the editorin- chief of Vogue, the “pope” who decides what is to be published in the fashion bible? Who decides what is “in”? The fashion editors, the designers, the photographers? The collaboration of both photographers Mário Testino and Patrick Demarchelier in the making of the cover and in the colour blocking photo shoot for the famous 2007 September Issue (840 pages), under the supervision of its editorin- chief Anna Wintour, whose creation process is the basis of a documentary under the same title, is analysed considering the relationship between fashion and image strategies – that includes celebrities, some of which coming from the film industry, brought in as an innovative and attractive change to the covers and photo shoots of Vogue, as well as the role/power of Anna Wintour reflected in it.

Les communautés d’eucaryotes unicellulaires associées à des métazoaires endémiques de deux environnements marins, les sources hydrothermales et les sédiments marins côtiers, ont été caractérisées par des études moléculaires et microscopiques. Ce travail de recherche a permis i) de caractériser et de comparer la distribution des communautés d’eucaryotes unicellulaires associées à différents environnements marins profonds, ii) de mettre en évidence de nouveaux clades, notamment chez les ciliés détectés dans les bivalves hydrothermaux, iii) de redéfinir et de comparer la distribution d’un groupe particulier de ciliés, les astomes, retrouvé uniquement en interaction avec des polychètes, iv) de mettre en évidence dans ces astomes endocommensaux, un troisième degré d’interaction représenté par des bactéries endocytoplasmiques. Ainsi, cette étude montre qu’une majorité d’eucaryotes unicellulaires détectés au niveau des sources hydrothermales sont des organismes cosmopolites des océans. Cependant, des niches écologiques distinctes et stables, représentées par les bivalves endémiques, abritent des communautés de ciliés plus spécifiques. De plus, les polychètes Cirratulidae retrouvés dans les sédiments côtiers réduits abritent un modèle d’interaction tripartite composé d’astomes endocommensaux associés à des bactéries endocytoplasmiques. Ces endosymbiontes sont phylogénétiquement très éloignés des organismes déjà décrits, et pourraient être ainsi les témoins d’une histoire évolutive commune. O objetivo desta dissertação é a descrição, análise e produção de um vídeo, cujo título é \"Passagens do trem sobre a ponte\", o qual apresenta características audiovisuais da película cinematográfica. A partir de sua concepção, é elaborada uma dissertação, que descreve os estágios de seu processo de criação. Inicialmente, houve uma preparação que implicou busca de imagens que pudessem apresentar a plástica característica de um tipo de imagem cinematográfica e pudessem suscitar uma emoção primordial. Várias técnicas foram utilizadas na criação do vídeo: desenho, modelagem e animação em computação gráfica, sendo esta a principal ferramenta para a geração das imagens. Posteriormente, estas recebem tratamentos específicos tais como adição de efeitos visuais, edição de vídeo e adição de trilha sonora e efeitos sonoros a fim de atingir um resultado que pudesse preencher a tela e resgatar, através das imagens e do som projetados, a memória dos filmes.<br>The objective of this text is the description, analysis and production of a video entitled \"Passages of the train upon the bridge\", which has all the audio and visual traits of a film. From its conception, a presentation is created, that describes levels of the process. In the beginning a preparation was necessary and it had considered image searches, that could reveal a pattern that would carry plastic characteristics related to film and also spread a primordial emotion. Many technics were used for the development, such as sketches, computer graphics modelling and animation, which is the main tool in the generation of these images. Later, special effects were added at those images, which also received sound score and sound effects in the edition process . The result is a product that aims to fill the screen and rescue through its projection a film memory.

Abstract:
Les carraghénanes sont des galactanes sulfatés extraits de la paroi de certaines algues rouges. Ces polysaccharides d’origine marine présentent des propriétés rhéologiques uniques et sont très largement exploités dans l’industrie agro-alimentaire, cosmétique, et pharmaceutique comme agents de texture (gélifiants et épaississants). Ils sont composés d’unités galactoses liées alternativement par des liaisons (1→3) et (1→4), et diffèrent par la présence ou non d’un pont 3,6 anhydro et par leur degré de sulfatation. Cependant, les carraghénanes sont des hétéropolymères et présentent dans la nature des structures hybrides. La grande diversité structurale de ces polysaccharides dont la composition varie en fonction de nombreux facteurs (espèce de l’algue, site et saison de récolte, procédés d’extraction) offre un large panel de propriétés physico-chimiques exploitable dans diverses applications. These polysaccharides of marine origin present unique rheological properties, and are widely used as texturing agents in the food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical industries. They are composed of galactose units linked alternatively by (1→3) and (1→4) links, and differ by the occurence of 3,6-anhydro bridge and their degree of sulfatation. However, carrageenans are heteropolymers and present complex hybrid stuctures in nature. The variability of carrageenan composition, which depends on algal species, life stage and extraction processes, offers a wide range of physico-chemical properties for various applications. In order to master the rheological properties of carrageenans, it’s necessary to control their chemical structures. To this end, the purification of enzymes of desulfatation -called sulfatases- was undertaken allowing monitoring directly on the gelling properties of these polysaccharides. These enzymes catalyse the hydrolysis of sulfate esters bonds of many biological compounds, and are involved in many metabolic processes

L'augmentation exponentielle du nombre d'images nécessite des moyens efficaces pour les classer en fonction de leur contenu visuel. Le sac de mot visuel (Bag-Of-visual-Words, BOW), en raison de sa simplicité et de sa robustesse, devient l'approche la plus populaire. Malheureusement, cette approche ne prend pas en compte de l'information spatiale, ce qui joue un rôle important dans les catégories de modélisation d'image. Récemment, Lazebnik ont introduit la représentation pyramidale spatiale (Spatial Pyramid Representation, SPR) qui a incorporé avec succès l'information spatiale dans le modèle BOW. Néanmoins, ce système de correspondance rigide empêche la SPR de gérer les variations et les transformations d'image. L'objectif principal de cette thèse est d'étudier un modèle de chaîne de correspondance plus souple qui prend l'avantage d'histogrammes de BOW locaux et se rapproche de la correspondance de la chaîne. Notre première contribution est basée sur une représentation en chaîne et une nouvelle distance d'édition (String Matching Distance, SMD) bien adapté pour les chaînes de l'histogramme qui peut calculer efficacement par programmation dynamique. Un noyau d'édition correspondant comprenant à la fois d'une pondération et d'un système pyramidal est également dérivée. La seconde contribution est une version étendue de SMD qui remplace les opérations d'insertion et de suppression par les opérations de fusion entre les symboles successifs, ce qui apporte de la souplesse labours et correspond aux images. Toutes les distances proposées sont évaluées sur plusieurs jeux de données tâche de classification et sont comparés avec plusieurs approches concurrentes<br>The exponential increasing of the number of images requires efficient ways to classify them based on their visual content. The most successful and popular approach is the Bag of visual Word (BoW) representation due to its simplicity and robustness. Unfortunately, this approach fails to capture the spatial image layout, which plays an important roles in modeling image categories. Recently, Lazebnik et al (2006) introduced the Spatial Pyramid Representation (SPR) which successfully incorporated spatial information into the BoW model. The idea of their approach is to split the image into a pyramidal grid and to represent each grid cell as a BoW. Assuming that images belonging to the same class have similar spatial distributions, it is possible to use a pairwise matching as similarity measurement. However, this rigid matching scheme prevents SPR to cope with image variations and transformations. The main objective of this dissertation is to study a more flexible string matching model. Keeping the idea of local BoW histograms, we introduce a new class of edit distance to compare strings of local histograms. Our first contribution is a string based image representation model and a new edit distance (called SMD for String Matching Distance) well suited for strings composed of symbols which are local BoWs. The new distance benefits from an efficient Dynamic Programming algorithm. A corresponding edit kernel including both a weighting and a pyramidal scheme is also derived. The performance is evaluated on classification tasks and compared to the standard method and several related methods. The new method outperforms other methods thanks to its ability to detect and ignore identical successive regions inside images. Our second contribution is to propose an extended version of SMD replacing insertion and deletion operations by merging operations between successive symbols. In this approach, the number of sub regions ie. the grid divisions may vary according to the visual content. We describe two algorithms to compute this merge-based distance. The first one is a greedy version which is efficient but can produce a non optimal edit script. The other one is an optimal version but it requires a 4th degree polynomial complexity. All the proposed distances are evaluated on several datasets and are shown to outperform comparable existing methods

Le développement, la reproduction et la survie d’un organisme, dépendent de son environnement physique et/ou écologique. La sélection en faveur de certains traits d’histoire de vie découle donc de la stabilité de l’environnement (i. E. Reproduction sexuée versus asexuée). La stratégie de reproduction d’une espèce est par conséquent susceptible de se modifier en fonction des changements environnementaux, pouvant survenir en limite d’aire de distribution qui se caractérisent par des fluctuations abiotiques plus importantes. Les grandes algues brunes (Phaeophyceae, Laminariales) sont des espèces structurant les communautés benthiques marines. Elles présentent un cycle de reproduction hétéromorphe avec alternance de phase haploïde microscopique (gamétophyte) et de phase diploïde macroscopique (sporophyte). Les connaissances sur la biologie et la distribution géographique de la plupart de ces espèces n’étaient basées jusqu’à présent que sur l’étude des sporophytes. Mes travaux de thèse ont permis de mettre en évidence l’importance de ces gamétophytes dans le maintien des populations, en comparant les modes de reproduction de trois espèces de laminaires. Les résultats suggèrent que le déterminisme du sexe est principalement génétique et que l’effet de la température de l’eau de mer sur la phase microscopique peut expliquer les distributions géographiques de certaines espèces. Par ailleurs, différents stratégies reproductives ont été observées au sein et entre espèces suggérant l’existence de phénomènes d’adaptations locales. En particulier, en limite d’aire de distribution des espèces, nos résultats montrent l’existence de la parthénogenèse géographique.

Desta forma, esta tese objetiva analisar a metafunção composicional da Gramática do Design Visual, de Kress e Van Leeuwen (2006), nas imagens do videoclipe e nas atividades do CD-ROM, em um contexto de letramento multimodal. O arcabouço teórico adotado centra-se na semiótica social (HODGE e KRESS, 1988 e VAN LEEUWEN, 2005), na multimodalidade (KRESS, 2009, 2010; JEWITT, 2006, 2008, 2009; KRESS e VAN LEEUWEN, 2001, 1996[2006]) e na Gramática do Design Visual (KRESS e VAN LEEUWEN, 2001; 2006). Enfoca-se, na análise a metafunção composicional, enfatizando os princípios: valor da informação, saliência e enquadramento. Como categoria complementar, usou-se a Análise da Interação Multimodal, de Norris (2004; 2011); os Multiletramentos, de Cope e Kalantizis (2000, 2012), e de Unsworth (2001), e a imagem em movimento, de Van Leeuwen (2005), de Burn & Parker (2006) e de Iedema (2001). A pesquisa, de natureza qualitativa (BAUER, e GASKEL, 2002), consiste na investigação descritiva e analítica do corpus, propondo um modelo para a análise das imagens em movimento e das atividades. O corpus se constitui de seis unidades de sequências dramatizadas do videoclipe disponibilizadas no CD-ROM, dentre as quais são analisadas três sequências de imagens em movimento e, em média, duas atividades com imagens em movimento e imagens estáticas. Nas análises, verificou-se como os significados composicionais, valor da informação, saliência e enquadramento se manifestam na organização e na coerência das imagens dos videoclipes do CD-ROM e como estes contribuem para o letramento visual multimodal nas atividades propostas. Os resultados das análises indicam que o CD-ROM Interchange Intro Third Edition é um suporte multimodal, com pelo menos quatro semioses – imagem (estática e em movimento), fala, texto verbal e música –, que se integram para ensinar a língua inglesa, numa abordagem comunicativa, com destaque para o ensino da gramática e do vocabulário, demonstrando, deste modo, que os recursos visuais e verbais se associam para a construção de sentido das histórias apresentadas nos videoclipes. Verificou-se, entretanto, no material analisado, uma lacuna em relação ao letramento visual multimodal que, embora presente, é pouco explorado. Os resultados das análises apontam para a necessidade de uma exploração sistemática do letramento visual e da multimodalidade no CD-ROM analisado, para que possam contribuir de forma mais efetiva para o desenvolvimento da competência comunicativa multimodal do aprendiz.

Within the home environment there exits a host of digital color imaging (DCI) system configurations. The combination of devices and software at the consumerâ s desktop with devices and services at a remote location (e.g., Print at Kodak), creates a complex interaction of device, contextual, and observer characteristics. In particular, the cathode-ray tube (CRT) display has the potential to influence consumersâ perceptions of image quality and their subsequent image manipulation activities. Depending on the inherent color bias and apparent contrast of the CRT, extensive image manipulation may occur, significantly altering the digital values of the image. Output generated by a remote printer will reflect any image manipulation undertaken by the consumer. If manipulation was extensive, what the consumer receives from a remote printer will appear quite different from the softcopy version and thus, may be deemed unacceptable. This research was designed to address the softcopy-hardcopy matching issues that arise from the home DCI system configuration just described. The primary study examined how the CRT display influenced perceived color quality of photographs generated at two points in a DCI system; on-screen photographs (softcopy) and photographic quality prints (hardcopy). CRT gamma, color temperature, and excitation purity were manipulated using an orthogonal, blocked, central composite design. Twenty-two Eastman Kodak Company employees viewed 6 photographs under each of the 15 CRT conditions. Participants rated the color quality of each softcopy photograph, then were given an opportunity to edit color balance, brightness, and contrast for each photograph. The edited photos were printed and rated once again for color quality and acceptability. Results indicated that monitor calibration influenced perceived softcopy color quality, softcopy editing behavior, and subsequent perceived hardcopy color quality. Perception of softcopy color quality ratings was determined predominantly by the CRT gamma level. Participants responded to CRT color balance differences through their editing behavior. In some cases, edits were large enough to significantly and negatively impact perceived hardcopy color quality. Gamma in particular, was the most significant predictor of hardcopy color quality ratings and rejection rates. Additional differences were observed between first- and third-party photographs. Results from this research may be applied to the development of monitor calibration tools, scene balancing algorithms, and software, for the purpose of accommodating consumer image manipulation behavior, in the context of the home DCI system presented herein.<br>Ph. A partir de um estudo quanti-qualitativo sobre a fotografia na mídia impressa - e também dos aportes em torno dos processos de sentido, das teorias do jornalismo e dos estudos audiovisuais -, a presente pesquisa pretende identificar os “elementos definidores” da natureza e das lógicas do uso da fotografia em Zero Hora, estruturando-se em torno da “crítica” da imagem realizada no box Foto comentada. A partir deste micro-espaço de tensionamento entre foto, edição fotográfica, leitor e jornal, pretende-se perceber para quais direções, no âmbito do sistema fotojornalístico, estas discussões apontam. Entre os movimentos metodológicos realizados, estão as incursões nos campos da recepção e da produção (por meio de entrevistas, observação participante e observação do box Foto comentada), e também a análise de 172 fotografias publicadas em Zero Hora durante o ano de 2005. RESUMEN: Mediante esta investigación se ha tratado de mostrar la relación del autor con la sociedad a través, prioritariamente, de su condición de impresor para comprobar cómo la función plástica de todo trabajo impreso, partiendo de la propia tipografía y pasando por todos los sistemas de reproducción de imágenes, le convierten en un precursor de lo que en los albores del siglo XX tomó el nombre de diseño gráfico. Es fundamental conocer todo lo relacionado con la imprenta, partiendo de la tipografía y la imagen y pasando por cuantos elementos y procesos constituyen la impresión, para poder analizar la repercusión que ha tenido en la aparición de la llamada Nueva Tipografía. Sin abandonar el tema central de las aportaciones de Blai Bellver a la historia del diseño gráfico y del producto, este trabajo de investigación se ha enmarcado en la realidad social, política y económica que le tocó vivir, así como en el lugar en que desarrolló su trabajo: la Xàtiva del siglo XIX. Se han revisado, prácticamente, todas las publicaciones y los trabajos que tratan de la vida y obra de Blai Bellver, pero estos, con ser interesantes, tratan aspectos relacionados con las Fallas como escritor, con la prensa como editor, o con su destacada presencia en la sociedad local de la época como setabense ilustre, y lo hacen siempre en función del acontecimiento puntual y ocasional que vincula su persona a los aspectos estudiados, obviando todo análisis de los aspectos formales propios de las artes gráficas, a las que consagró su vida. This thesis addresses René d'Anjou's "Livre des tournois" as a holistic product of late-medieval court culture. It argues that the work can only be decoded when text and image are considered as inseparable mutually exegetic components. This thesis adopts an interdisciplinary methodology and draws on a diverse range of visual, historical, material and literary sources. The structure is based on a series of focussed case studies into aspects of the "Livre des tournois" that have been understudied or are in need of reconsideration. Chapter 1 explores the relationship between the work's images and text and the impact on the author's identity as an authority on the subject. Chapter 2 scrutinises the use and depiction of heraldry essential to the construction of a visual narrative within the work. Chapter 3 addresses the heralds' duties and how these roles compare to the precedents found in late-medieval tournament and court culture. Chapter 4 examines René's influences and sources by focussing on the similarities between the form of tournament described and historic precedents related to the combat, location, participants and equipment. Chapter 5 utilises spatial and ritual theories to engage with a series of spectacles surrounding the punishment and review of the tourneyers in relation to group identity. Chapter 6 analyses the codicological, textual and visual evidence from all eight known medieval manuscript copies and demonstrates a revised understanding of the provenance and transmission of the work, before scrutinising the reception of two copies in detail. The conclusion draws together threads of identity, authority and the importance of the book as a product of the culture and circumstances of its production. A series of appendices support this thesis, including a scholarly edition of BnF, ms. fr. 2695, a revised stemma, and comparative tables of the codicological data of all extant manuscript copies.

Image auctoriale et stratégies du marché dans José Joaquín Benegasi y Luján (1707-1770) présente l'étude de cet auteur pas très connu du bajo barroco espagnol. José Joaquín Benegasi y Luján, même s'il a été considéré comme « mineur » par la critique traditionnelle du dix-huitième siècle, est un écrivain avec un profil auctorial qui prélude quelques traits de l'auteur moderne. Par ailleurs, le réseau de sociabilité (Bourdieu) spécifique de Madrid, dont il faisait partie, ainsi que l'empreinte personnelle de ses textes – résumée dans cette marque distinctive caractéristique du « jocoserio » – m'ont permis d'anticiper quelques affirmations qui garantissaient une étude féconde de sa figure, son contexte et son œuvre. C'est à partir de ces affirmations là que j'ai débuté mes recherches, lesquelles j’ai structurées autour des deux axes traditionnels de la vie et l'œuvre de l'auteur, tout en m'efforçant de les doter d'une plus grande polyvalence et richesse. Dans la présente étude, on peut distinguer un travail de recherche de type historique et archivistique, dont l'intention a été de reconstruire de la façon la plus fiable possible, l'évolution historique-sociale de l'auteur, ses textes et le contexte dans lequel ils apparaissent, ainsi que le travail de recherche plus strictement philologique. Celui-ci essaie de faire une analyse détaillée des textes imprimés qui nous aide à mieux comprendre, dans une perspective littéraire, tant l'auteur que le contexte socio-éditorial dans lequel ils sont produits. Avec cette double approche dont la vocation est d'être complémentaire, mon but a été d'articuler une étude solide et cohérente qui puisse nous permettre d'enrichir dans une certaine mesure nos encore faibles connaissances sur cet auteur. D'une manière générale, quelques conclusions provisoires peuvent être tirées des recherches effectuées : 1. La présence dans Benegasi d'un certain profil professionnel (signature, accréditations dénaturées, contrôle éditorial, style identifiable, diversification thématique, gravure). 2. La conscience de l'importance de sa propre insertion et de son lien professionnel avec un réseau de sociabilité plus ou moins complexe. 3. Le développement de stratégies d'édition au sein d'un marché du livre dans lequel Benegasi place, en plus de ses aspirations de notoriété, son intérêt pour une survie économique. 4. José Joaquín Benegasi y Luján, even though he was considered a "minor" by the traditional criticism of the eighteenth century, is a writer with an authorial profile that preludes some of the features of the modern author. Moreover, the specific network of sociability (Bourdieu) of Madrid, which he belonged to, as well as the personal imprint of his texts –which are summarized in this distinctive mark, the "jocoserio"–, allowed me to anticipate some affirmations that guaranteed a fruitful study of his figure, his context and his work. It is from these statements that I began my research, which I structured around the two traditional axes of life and the work of the author, while striving to provide them with a greater versatility and wealth. In the present study, we can distinguish historical and archival research work, the intention of which was to reconstruct as reliably as possible the historical-social evolution of the author, his texts and the context in which they appear, as well as the more strictly philological research work. This late one aims at making a detailed analysis of the printed texts which helps us to better understand, from a literary perspective, both the author and the socio-editorial context in which they were produced. With this dual approach that aims to be complementary, my goal was to articulate a solid and coherent study that can allow us to enrich to some extent our still weak knowledge about this author. In general, some tentative conclusions can be drawn from the research carried out:1. The presence of a certain professional profile (signature, denatured accreditations, editorial control, identifiable style, thematic diversification, engraving) in the work of Benegasi. 2. The awareness of the importance of one's own insertion and professional connection with a more or less complex sociability network. 3. The development of publishing strategies within a book market in which Benegasi places, in addition to his aspirations of notoriety, his interest in economic survival. 4. The relative public recognition of Benegasi, which is attested both by its extensive network of contacts and the testimonies that flow from them, as well as by the frequency of printing of the compilations and re-editions

Livre illustré, livre d'artiste, livre de dialogue, livre de peintre autant de dénominations pour désigner les œuvres dans lesquelles l'image est associée à la poésie. Or, ces images accompagnent également le plus souvent les publications pour la jeunesse relevant du genre poétique. Comment se construit la relation entre poésie et art (peinture, dessin, photographie, pastel…) dans ces livres pour les jeunes lecteurs et quelles lectures peuvent en faire les professeurs des écoles en classe aujourd'hui sont les deux questions qui nous intéressent. Notre réflexion porte tout d'abord sur les ouvrages eux-mêmes, publiés entre 1995 et 2012. Après avoir analysé les approches de la poésie pour l'enfance et la jeunesse que proposent la critique littéraire, l'institution scolaire et la recherche en littérature, nous établissons une typologie de cette nouvelle catégorie littéraire que nous appelons « livre de poème(s) illustré » et nous étudions le rapport entre poème et illustration dans ces œuvres. Des interrogations didactiques sont nées de cette première réflexion. Tout d'abord, dans l'enseignement au niveau élémentaire, quel usage les maîtres font-ils de ces œuvres doubles ? Ensuite, quelles compétences de lecture littéraire et de lecture d'images cette production permet-elle de développer et quel rapport à la poésie et à l'art un professeur des écoles peut-il faire construire à ses élèves grâce à ces œuvres ? Cette partie de notre étude présente une recherche exploratoire en didactique de la littérature de type qualitatif qui se fonde sur une description du discours des enseignants, d'analyses de pratiques et de dispositifs de lecture subjective expérimentés dans le cadre de la formation de maîtres. Ainsi notre cheminement général nous conduit-il de la production vers la réception du livre de poème(s) illustré par des lecteurs critiques et savants, ou moins expérimentés<br>Book Illustrated, artistic book, dialogue book, painter's book so many designations when, in literary works, picture is combined with poetry. But most of the time, those pictures can be found in children books then regarded as poetry ones. How is this relation between poetry and art (painting, drawing, photography, Pastel drawing…) built in books for young readers? What readings of these books school teachers might set up today in their class? These two questions are our concern. At first, our work concerns books themselves published between 1995 and 2012. After exploring how literature criticism and research, as well as didactic and pedagogy have studied poetry for children, we will set a typology up of a new literary genre we call “ Illustrated book of poems”. Therefore, we will study relations between poems and pictures in these books. No doubt didactic issues will arise from this first thought. At first, how teachers use these dual books? Which skills of readings text and pictures does this new literary genre develop and thanks to these books, which relationship to poetry and art can a teacher help his pupils build? This part of our work is a qualitative type research in didactics of literature based on a description of teachers' speeches, pedagogy practices analysis and subjective readings set-up tested in professional teachers training. In this study I have met three authors in a dialogue seminar on their literary work. The discussion, starting from texts by Lacan and Socrates, revolved around the dichotomy of personal and private, and how to benefit from personal material in one’s literary work. The three authors reflected on the writer Karl Ove Knausgård and the photographer Sally Mann, who both are working with their own immediate family as a motif. In Knausgård, you can find a strong and self-dissecting writer persona as a medium of creating recognition in the readers mind. In Sally Mann the metaphorical dimensions of this family motifs transforms them to images of much more general relevance than their private settings. On the subject of truth and story I also reflect on the different approaches that the authors Primo Levi, Viktor Frankl and Imre Kertész have on their experiences of the Holocaust. Finally the importance and relevance of metaphors as a way of getting a touch of one’s own private material is starting to be investigated.<br>I det här arbetet har jag samlat tre författare i olika genrer till ett dialogseminarium om sin arbetsprocess. Samtalet, som utgick från texter av Lacan och Sokrates, kretsade mycket kring författarens arbetsvillkor och de olika metoder som författarna använder sig av för att hitta sin frihet i förhållande till dem. I samtalet blev det uppenbart hur beroende alla författarna är av en förstående medarbetare. Okunskap och felläsning från en dramaturg eller redaktör kan bokstavligt talat bli förödande.    Dialogmötet kom att kretsa kring frågeställningar om hur man skiljer privat och personligt. Vi diskuterade författaren Karl Ove Knausgård och fotografen Sally Mann, som båda jobbar med sin egen familj som motiv. Genom att Knausgård använder sig själv som en roll visar han på en möjlighet att närma sig ett eget material. Hos Sally Mann är det istället de metaforiska dimensionerna i de vardagliga motiven som gör sig tydliga.    Också i Imre Kertész skildring av förintelsen förvandlas den till något större: en metafor för hur ödet och slumpen kan påverka våra liv. Hans berättelse blir på det sättet mindre beroende av vad som är sant, än skildringarna av två andra överlevare från Auschwitz: Primo Levi och Viktor Frankl. Vilket inte betyder att de andras texter saknar metaforisk styrka.    Avslutningsvis går uppsatsen in på författarnas sätt att använda metaforen som ett verktyg för att berätta. Metaforen är alltid en bild av någonting annat, den skapar en fördjupning och oförväntad igenkänning hos läsaren. Den ger också möjligheter för konstnären/författaren att berätta saker som hen inte kan säga på andra sätt.  Metaforen uppstår genom igenkänning i skapandet. Man kan välja att gå med den, eller aktivt gå emot den för att fördjupa textens eller filmens metaforiska dimension.    En viktig aspekt för yrkeskunnande inom konsten och författarskap är att aldrig ligga före i sitt arbete genom att oroa sig för vad omgivningen ska tycka och tänka. Då finns det en risk att man blir en feg konstnär, vilket är förödande för ens skapande.

Morphable guidelines are a 3D structure that helps users achieve better face warping on 2D portrait images. Faces can be difficult to warp accurately because the rotation of the head affects the shape of the facial features. I bypass the problem by utilizing the popular Loomis ‘ball and plane’ head drawing guideline as a proxy structure. The resulting ‘morphable guidelines’ consist of a simple 3D head model that can be reshaped by the user and aligned to their input image. The vertices of the model go on to act as deformation points for a 2D image deformation algorithm. Thus, the user can seamlessly transform the face proportions in the 2D image by transforming the proportions of the morphable guidelines. This system can be used for both retouching and caricature warping purposes, as it is well-suited for both subtle and extreme modifications. Na paz ou na guerra, a informação não enfrenta habitualmente fronteiras para circular em tempo real. Na complexa interação estabelecida entre nações de todo o mundo, a comunicação é hoje uma valiosa ferramenta. Na doutrina das Forças Armadas brasileiras, o sistema de Comunicação Social (Com Soc) tornou-se vital para o planejamento e para a execução das operações, multiplicando o poder de combate e fortalecendo o moral e a coesão da tropa. Nesta pesquisa, apresentamos uma visão do modus operandi da comunicação no Exército Brasileiro e analisamos a importância do trabalho do editor e da agência de notícias institucional para cumprir a missão precípua do Centro de Comunicação Social do Exército (CCOMSEx) de preservar e fortalecer a imagem da Força diante dos públicos interno e externo. A importância desta pesquisa fundamentou-se em verificar a necessidade de manutenção, de robustecimento ou de aprimoramento da agência de notícias do Exército Brasileiro, nomeadamente Agência Verde-Oliva, cujo slogan é “Agência Verde-Oliva: proatividade com segurança”. A recente efetivação desse projeto ousado e inovador do CCOMSEx permitiu que a Agência se tornasse fonte primária de informação, com o intuito de proteger e fortalecer a imagem do Exército, em amplo espectro, de maneira tempestiva e proativa. Com postura colaborativa e multidisciplinar, esse empreendimento configurou-se adequado às exigências do processo de racionalização do Exército em tempos de contenção orçamentária. A revisão da literatura pertinente ao assunto em pauta, a coleta de dados, realizada por meio de questionários, e a análise dos resultados ratificaram o caráter imprescindível da agência de notícias no âmbito da Força, além de ressaltar que a arte de bem comunicar nunca foi tão relevante para os órgãos públicos federais brasileiros, em especial para o EB, como nos tempos modernos. Por essa razão, as próximas páginas desta pesquisa apresentam o estudo de alguns aspectos relacionados ao papel do editor no órgão central de comunicação do Exército Brasileiro, responsável por expor a todo cidadão, brasileiro ou estrangeiro, o pensamento e as diretrizes do Comando da Força.<br>Either in wartime or peacetime, information does not usually face barriers to circulate in real time. Today, communication serves as a valuable tool when complex interaction among nations is established worldwide. In the doctrine of the Brazilian Armed Forces, social communication system has become paramount to the planning and execution of operations as it contributes to increase combat power and strengthen the morale and cohesion of the troops. The present research aims to approach the modus operandi of communication in the Brazilian Army as well as to analyze the importance of the work carried out by the editor and the institutional news agency in order to accomplish the main mission of the Brazilian Army Public Affairs Centre (CCOMSEx, acronym in Portuguese) – to preserve and strengthen the image of the Force to internal and external parties. This research seeks to verify the need to maintain, strengthen and improve the Brazilian Army’s news agency, namely Verde-Oliva Agency, whose slogan is “Verde- Oliva Agency: proactivity with security”. The recent implementation of this bold and innovative project of CCOMSEx has helped the Agency to become a primary source of information in order to protect and enhance the Army’s image, in a wide range, by acting proactively and in timely manner. The news agency, which integrates a collaborative and multidisciplinary approach, has been adequate to suit the Brazilian Army’s rationalization process requirements during budgetary restraint. Procedures such as review of specific literature on the issue, data collection with questionnaire and results assessment have not only confirmed the indispensable nature of the news agency in the Army but also emphasized that the art of communicating more and better has never been so significant to the Brazilian Federal Public Bodies, particularly to the Brazilian Army, as in the present time. Therefore, the following pages of the present research address issues concerning the editor’s role in CCOMSEx, who is responsible to inform Brazilian or foreign citizens the thought and guidelines of the Commander of the Army.

In this study, it investigates above two situations, first to investigate manufacturer’s brand image and distribute signal that’s clarityto influence their signal of limited-edition or not, then to investigate every consumers’ perception In this study ,using the efficient 368 questionnaires; taking the female consumers who lives in Tainan area. Through experimental design, the findings of analysis show that, when manufacturer’s brand image is better, the more consumers believe they distribute signal that the limited-edition information, release of information by manufacturers also make more clear the more affecting consumer confidence in the signal. Then when consumers perceive the product that is limited-editions, that engender postive impact on consumers’ perception – perceived scarcity, assumed expensiveness, perceived symbolic benefits, ultimately that also engender postive impact on perceived value from consumers, then it promotes consumers’ purchase intention.

This thesis examines three aspects of the commentary edition of the Chinese vernacular novel Shuihu Zhuan written by Ming Dynasty literatus Jin Shengtan (ca. 1610-1661), analyzing three of the most innovative features that the commentary brings to our understanding of the novel, and what Jin Shengtan desired for the reader of his commentary to understand. The first chapter looks at a series of techniques that Jin outlines in the preliminary "How to Read" section of the commentary (dufa), where the techniques are shown to be very similar in focus and style to the literary theory of narratology as written about by Gerard Genette through a sample comparison of five of the techniques with varying characteristics of narratology. The second chapter looks at how Jin Shengtan constructs the image of the author, Shi Nai'an, through both his interlineal commentary (jiapi) and his preliminary chapter commentary (zongpi). We see through this analysis that Jin Shengtan has gone against the tradition of shu er bu zuo -- a Confucian tradition that relegates the position of the author to the background of his work -- and has brought the author into a position of prominence through his construction of the image of an unparalleled genius. The third and final chapter looks at the idea of "heroism" (xia) and how Jin's commentary reworks the way many of the primary characters of the novel and their heroic actions are seen and interpreted, focusing especially on the characters of Wu Song, Lu Zhishen, Song Jiang and Li Kui, where we see that Jin's commentary focuses on parallels between the heroes such as Wu Song and Lu Zhishen in the first portion of the novel, while switching to a more juxtapositional perspective in the latter half of the novel through Song Jiang and Li Kui.<br>Graduate<br>0305<br>0332<br>mblsm00@gmail.com

The sales ranking of Japanese female magazines have a good performance. “ViVi International Chinese version” is the biggest-selling and popular female magazine in recent years. Questionnaires and interviews will be used in this study to explore the reader’s brand image, perceived value on customer satisfaction and brand loyalty. This study will examine the business model and provide marketing strategies for popular women magazines in the publishing industry. The development of digital technology in recent years has brought convenience in people's lives, but has also brought new challenges to the publishing industry. The empirical findings show the ViVi brand image is unique and competitive, but there is a need to explore the Korean upsurge, economic downturn, digitalization, changes in reader habits, the brand loyalty of young readers in brand image and the perceived value of brand loyalty show a significant correlation in this study. This study suggests that the core value of a magazine is the brand and quality content. In the development of digital publishing, there are still many issues to overcome besides the cover, contents and marketing, but how to create the desired content for the reader’s lifestyle and reading habits to extend the brand influence. Furthermore, creating a social network for the magazine in order to create more opportunities and enhance the diversity of the business model, such as brand interaction through integrated marketing. The suggestions above may improve the competitiveness and influence of the “ViVi” brand and establish a profitable business model.
