Abstract:
Letters from the editor-in-chief have both been celebrated and criticized as a potential media accountability instrument. In the light of these divergent qualifications we analyzed corporate accounts in letters from the editor-in-chief in four selected Dutch media, applying Coombs’ defensive-accommodative continuum (2007; 1998) for crisis communication to the news media sector. Content analysis shows that journalistic organizations facing criticism use seven different response strategies, ranging from defensive to accommodative: rejection, refutation, evasion, justification, mitigation, confession and alteration. Although occasionally editors-in-chief admit mistakes, practices and implementation of professional standards remain undisputed. This confirms the ambiguous role of letters from editors-in-chief as a platform for both self criticism and image management.

Digital production proses using integrated image editor software, which has own drawing tools function, makes easier producing textures material that applied in 3D model. The feature of image editor combined with 3D Editor Software makes the easier adjustment of 3D model needs when we see the visible improvement, so the software utilization will be more efficient. In the discussion, this study is done by making the production of 3D model, that is the 3D Character that has material texturing from utilizing the available image editor software features, so the alternative production by using the integrated image editor is possibly to be done. The discussion can be utilized as an insight into the manufacture of technical design in determining the design workflow of 3D models. Utilization of software take one example of software Maxon Cinema 4D version 14, which is used as a reference as software that integrates image processing therein.

Abstract:
This February marks a quarter of a century since the death of Vyacheslav Avksentievich Manassein, a man who was "the living conscience of a Russian doctor" during his lifetime. The tremendous experiences that took place after the death of V. A-cha blocked his bright image from the eyes of the modern generation of Russian doctors. Now that our life has entered a calmer channel, the editors of the Kazan Medical Journal consider it their duty to remind fellow doctors about this true teacher of life and his precepts, especially since V. Ah was a Kazan by origin, and the editor of the Journal had the good fortune to be one of - alas! - the few who survived, his direct disciples.

Zylinska, Joanna. "Active Perceptual Systems." Cabinet, Vol. 2, no. 2 (2017): 95–97. http://dx.doi.org/10.47659/m3.095.art.

Full text
Abstract:
The images that make up the project presented here are very much part of “the technical universe of images” Flusser has identified in his book [Into the Universe of Technical Images]. They were taken over a period of two years with an automated “intelligent” wearable camera called the Autographer. The artist wore the camera in various everyday situations: on a city walk, in a holiday resort, in an art gallery, in a lecture theatre, at home. The machinic behaviour was nevertheless influenced by the way her body moved, enacting a form of immersive, corporeal perception that broke with the linearity of perspectival vision and its representationalist ambitions, while also retaining human involvement in the multiple acts of image capture. The human element was also foregrounded in the subsequent editing activities: Zylinska was faced with over 18,000 images from which she chose several dozen. Active Perceptual Systems thus raises the question of whether the creative photographer can be seen as first and foremost an editor: a Flusserian in-former who provides structure to the imagistic flow after the images have been taken. Abstract:
This review was carried out to analyse the functions of three Vector Graphic Editor applications (VGEs) applicable to clinical or research practice, and through this we propose a two-dimensional image analysis protocol in a VGE. We adapted the review method from the PRISMA-ScR protocol. Pubmed, Embase, Web of Science, and Scopus were searched until June 2020 with the following keywords: Vector Graphics Editor, Vector Graphics Editor Dentistry, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Illustrator Dentistry, Coreldraw, Coreldraw Dentistry, Inkscape, Inkscape Dentistry. The publications found described the functions of the following VGEs: Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW, and Inkscape. The possibility of replicating the procedures to perform the VGE functions was analysed using each study’s data. The search yielded 1032 publications. After the selection, 21 articles met the eligibility criteria. They described eight VGE functions: line tracing, landmarks tracing, linear measurement recording, angular measurement recording, image calibration, image overlay, file transfer, and vector graphics development. The features offered by the VGEs bring great precision and objectivity to two-dimensional image analysis. The image analysis and editing procedures are currently not protocolised. Thus, a protocol for image calibration and measurement recording is proposed in order to guarantee the protocol’s replication.

Although the experimental work is of excellent quality, Diebold et al. (2003) offer an incorrect explanation of the image formation process in the high-resolution transmission electron microscope. It is important that this misinterpretation be corrected before it comes to be accepted as factual by other scientists who are not expert in the field of high-resolution transmission electron microscopy.

Full text
Abstract:
This paper presents the retrieval method of geological images or their fragments using Query by Sketch method. The sketch can be created manually, for instance using a graphics editor, and may show the shape of objects or their distribution within an image. This query is then used to search the image database for objects showing the greatest similarity. As an example of the proposed method, the detection of porosity in microscopic images of carbonate rock and sandstone was presented. An approach was described which is founded on the designation of parameters of selected properties of the query image and images in databases, as well as on the conformity analysis of these parameters. Two methods were proposed: the first one searches for the most similar object in the image database with respect to the set criteria. The second method performs a search based on a sketch of images which are similar in terms of object distribution (i.e., porosity). The presented research results confirm that database search using the query by sketch method forms an interesting and modern approach and may constitute one of the functionalities of IT systems intended for use in geology and mining industry.

Abstract:
This article discusses a very well-known and frequently used technique for an implementation of a variety of artistic projects - a collage created by means of information technology. The article tells about using collage in higher education for teaching graphics, in particular, raster editors. Graphics editors such as Adobe Photoshop or GIMP are included in the Computer Science and Information Technology program. Students get the opportunity to create graphic images regardless of their prior art education. The introduction of the topic "Creating a collage by means of a raster editor" introduces a creative element into IT disciplines and develops the student's associative thinking at the level of brain functioning. As a rule, raster editors are used to edit an image, not to create it. Therefore, preparation for these classes encourages students to search for the necessary visual material on the Internet. In order to obtain more personal images, a deep study of photography techniques is required. It is also useful to study the history of photo and film collages, their texture and structure. The scope of the collage use is various. This is psychology, teaching foreign languages and, of course, fine arts. Advertising posters that we see in large numbers in the media and transport are also collages. The article traces the history of collage creation from ancient Egyptian history to modern advertising products. It is especially interesting to study the time when collage became a conscious technique. This is a great layer of avant-garde art.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to understanding the image of the Soviet editor in Russian art (using examples of fiction and cinema). The author examines the personal qualities that contributed to the entry of a person into the profession («editorial character») and provides a chronological observation of the «editorial evolution» – in publishing and film production-throughout the Soviet period and the first years of Russia in the 1990s. An important aspect that has been updated since the early 1920s is the active inclusion of women in editorial work. The characteristics of editors of different Soviet periods are analyzed using examples from the prose of M. Bulgakov, V. Shishkov, L. Rakhmanov, A. Tobolyak, V. Astafyev. Portraits of Soviet film editors are considered in the works of J. Gausner, N. Bogoslovsky, V. Makanin, D. Rubina and M. Kuraev. Representatives of the editorial profession are also represented in the films of A. Tarkovsky, V. Zheregy, K. Shakhnazarov and A. Benckendorf. There are two main types in the artistic depiction of editors and their activities: satirical (in a pointed form ridiculing personal and professional shortcomings) and dramatic (reflecting the complexity of editorial characters in their inseparability with the influence of society, historical era). In the final part of the article, the vectors of professional diffusions in the film-editing corps are outlined with the end of the Soviet era and the need to adapt to the new, post-Soviet realities.

Abstract:
Singers, songwriters and musicians create personas and perform the (gendered) role of rock star, punk, heart-throb, crooner, diva, or rock chick. Magazine covers are a key factor in consolidating and marketing that constructed persona. Magazine covers have visual power that is calibrated for maximum impact with a defined audience and a key part of the editor’s role is to decide on the cover image and cover lines. Moreover, there is now an expectation that editors of glossy magazines are recognisable ‘influencers’ who personify the values and commodities that their titles promote. We expect performers to put on a show, but do we expect music magazine editors to adopt a gendered celebrity persona and a public self too? This article examines the persona of the music magazine editor and the construction of music celebrity with a particular focus on Australian Rolling Stone magazine. Interviews with Kathy Bail and Elissa Blake, the first two women to edit the title in magazine format, underscore the self-fashioning of cultural intermediaries and the challenges for women in leadership roles in Australian media workplaces.

Abstract:
We open this issue of Theatre Survey with Marvin Carlson's essay on how the events of 9/11 and the subsequent wars with Afghanistan and Iraq have affected New York theatre. At the core of Carlson's essay is a very subtle depiction of theatre forced by world events to contemplate anew its understanding of history and its understanding of the role that theatre has to play in history. Carlson's essay offers us an image of theatre communities that, in their responses to the deeply troubling events of the past two and a half years, have struggled to understand whether theatre is outside or inside of history, that is, whether theatre is “somehow out of place in a situation of real crisis and suffering” or whether it can be an actual force of change. At one level, then, Carlson's essay is significant because it illuminates how acts of terrorism and acts of war force theatre to return to the most basic questions about its function in society at large. Those questions serve as our point of departure because their answers change with history.

Abstract. The Spectrometer and Imagers for MPO BepiColombo Integrated Observatory SYStem (SIMBIO-SYS) is a suite of three independentoptical heads that will provide images and spectroscopic observations of the Mercury surface. With the approaching of BepiColombo to Mercury, the definition of the observation strategies of each instrument is becoming mandatory also for testing the operation procedures in terms of feasibility and stereo performance. The use of synthetic images and a customized simulator have been considered a powerful way to accomplish this test. This simulation system allows to investigate all the possible stereo configurations (different stereo angles and different image combinations) with the opportunity to evaluate the operational feasibility thanks to the evaluation of the final stereo products. Working with a simulated dataset allows to control most of the geometrical aspects (both the projection model definition and the observation geometry) suggesting with the analysis of the stereo products the better configuration to be applied and to be considered in the definition of the observation strategy. Abstract:
Henry Ward Beecher, the influential pastor of Plymouth Church in Brooklyn until his death in 1887, became an iconic figure in Puck magazine during its first decade. Beecher, who was involved in the Tilton marital scandal, was satirized in word and graphics by editor and cartoonist Joseph Keppler for both his womanizing and his politics. A study of Puck’s response to Beecher from 1877 to 1887 exemplifies the magazine’s crusade against dishonesty and attempt to safeguard public morals as it followed in the steps of its mascot Puck, proclaiming “What Fools These Mortals Be!”

Abstract:
With the development of technology, UAS is an advance technology to support rapid mapping for disaster response. The aim of this study is to develop educational modules for UAS data processing in rapid 3D mapping. The designed modules for this study are focused on UAV data processing from available freeware or trial software for education purpose. The key modules include orientation modelling, 3D point clouds generation, image georeferencing and visualization. The orientation modelling modules adopts VisualSFM to determine the projection matrix for each image station. Besides, the approximate ground control points are measured from OpenStreetMap for absolute orientation. The second module uses SURE and the orientation files from previous module for 3D point clouds generation. Then, the ground point selection and digital terrain model generation can be archived by LAStools. The third module stitches individual rectified images into a mosaic image using Microsoft ICE (Image Composite Editor). The last module visualizes and measures the generated dense point clouds in CloudCompare. These comprehensive UAS processing modules allow the students to gain the skills to process and deliver UAS photogrammetric products in rapid 3D mapping. Moreover, they can also apply the photogrammetric products for analysis in practice.

Abstract:
One of the main responsibilities of the editorial office is to communicate effectively with authors through emails, formal letters, and most importantly through decision letters. Even when the content is informative and constructive and the editor has only good intentions, if the tone and level of formality are not managed properly, the image of the journal may be negatively affected, which may deter authors from submitting papers to the journal again. Despite their best efforts to treat authors respectfully, some editors may unintentionally cause offense if they lack the appropriate sociolinguistic knowledge required for effective English correspondence. In order to ease the burden of the editorial office, this tutorial aims to assist non-native English speaking editors by demonstrating the basic format and principles of writing formal letters and email, providing tips on how to select an acceptable level of formality, and offering strategies to avoid unintentional rudeness. Specific tips include framing issues positively, using indirect language, and using hedging. Through this tutorial, non-native English speaking editors are expected to develop sociolinguistic competence to write professionally and improve their efficiency in corresponding with authors.

Abstract:
The article developed the mathematical model for the synthesis of ornamental images and implemented the software editor of ornamental images, based on symmetry theory. The paper shows the fundamental role of symmetry. It is analyzed that the symmetry theory methods are used in physics, chemistry, biology, and engineering. It was found that symmetry is based on transformation and storage. In addition, the symmetrical system is based on a set of invariants that are built according to certain rules. It is shown that the symmetry of borders and the symmetry of mesh ornaments are used in ornaments. The synthesis of ornamental images is considered on the example of Ukrainian folk embroidery. The contribution of foreign and domestic scientists to the development of the symmetry theory and synthesis of images is analyzed. It is indicated that Ukrainian folk embroidery is the valuable property of the cultural and material heritage of people and an important source of research. It is analyzed that there are more than 100 types of different embroidery techniques. The role of famous Ukrainian artists in the popularization and organization of Ukrainian folk embroidery museums is presented. It is investigated that embroidery is built from separate motives or from ornaments. Ornaments consist of sub-ornaments. A sub-ornament is a pattern consisting of rhythmically ordered identical elements (built on one group transformation). Subornaments are divided into reports. The report is called the minimum for the area of the area that can cover the sub-ornament, using only transfers. The report, in turn, is divided into even smaller particles: motive or elementary picture. It is found that in embroidery ornaments there are 7 groups of stripe and 12 - plan. Mathematical models of images-ornaments synthesis for groups of a strip and plan groups are developed. Mathematical models are given for ideal ornaments. If offsets of axes or centers of symmetries, it is necessary to adjust the coefficients of transformation matrices displacement. Samples of embroidered ornaments of the corresponding plane and stripe groups are provided. Editor of image-ornaments has been developed, which allows the synthesis of complex ornamental images based on analytical formulas of elementary picture, sub-ornament, and ornament. Examples of real and synthesized samples of Ukrainian folk embroidery are provided. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the development of mathematical models of ornaments on the basis of symmetry groups on the strip and the plane. The practical value of the work lies in the development of an image editor-ornaments.

Abstract:
Objective. The aim of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of reconstructed computed tomography (CT) images using OsiriX software in detecting wooden and bamboo foreign bodies. Methods. Four sizes of wet and dry wooden and bamboo foreign bodies were selected to be analyzed. Those in the air and in the head of edible swine were scanned with a multidetector row CT scanner. The images were evaluated with OsiriX software in the bone and the abdomen window setting as unprocessed images. Three-dimensional rendered images assigned colors and opacity by a 16-bit color look-up table (CLUT) editor in OsiriX software were evaluated as processed images. Results. In the unprocessed images, dry and wet foreign bodies in the air were not detected except a part of wet wooden foreign bodies, and all the dry and wet foreign bodies in the swine’s head mimicked air with linear shapes. In the processed images, all the dry and wet foreign bodies in the air were detected clearly, and all the wooden and some of the bamboo foreign bodies in the swine’s head were detected clearly. Conclusions. CT images processed using OsiriX software, especially with a CLUT editor, were useful in detecting wooden and bamboo foreign bodies.

Abstract:
To expand use of the mobile robot Step-On Interface (SOI), originally targeting maintenance, training, and recovery of human physical and cognitive functions, we introduce a “Truly-Tender-Tailed” (T3, pronounced tee-cube) tag-playing robot as a “Friendly Amusing Mobile” (FAM) function. Displaying a previously prepared bitmap (BMP) image and speeding up display make it easy to design button placement and other screen parameters using a painting software package. The BMP-image scope matrix simplifies step detection and recognition and the motion trajectory design editor facilitates robot behavior design.

Abstract:
Various types of image processing that can be done by computers, such as improving image quality is one of the fields that is quite popular until now. Improving the quality of an image is necessary so that someone can observe the image clearly and in detail without any disturbance. An image can experience major disturbances or errors in an image such as the image of the screenshot is used as a sample. The results of the image from the screenshot have the smallest sharpness and smoothness of the image, so to get a better image is usually done enlargement of the image. After the screenshot results are obtained then, the next process is cropping the image and the image looks like there are disturbances such as visible blur and cracked. To get an enlarged image (Zooming image) by adding new pixels or points. This is done by the super resolution method, super resolution has three stages of completion, first Registration, Interpolation, and Reconstruction. For magnification done by linear interpolation and reconstruction using a median filter for image refinement. This method is expected to be able to solve the problem of improving image quality in image enlargement applications. This study discusses that the process carried out to implement image enlargement based on the super resolution method is then built by using R2013a matlab as an editor to edit programs

Abstract:
Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) is an international standard to transfer, store, retrieve, print, process and display medical imaging information. It provides a standardized method to store medical images from many types of imaging devices. Typically, CT and MRI scans, which are composed of 2D slice images in DICOM format, can be inspected and analyzed with DICOM-compatible imaging software. Additionally, the DICOM format provides important information to assemble cross-sections into 3D volumetric datasets. Not many DICOM viewers are available for mobile platforms (smartphones and tablets), and most of them are 2D-based with limited functionality and user interaction. This paper reports on our efforts to design and implement a volumetric 3D DICOM viewer for mobile devices with real-time rendering, interaction, a full transfer function editor and server access capabilities. 3D DICOM image sets, either loaded from the device or downloaded from a remote server, can be rendered at up to 60 fps on Android devices. By connecting to our server, users can a) get pre-computed image quality metrics and organ segmentation results, and b) share their experience and synchronize views with other users on different platforms.

Abstract:
DEAR EDITOR,Three-dimensional (3D) transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) is a powerful tool for assessment of mitral valve area with multiplanar reconstruction (MPR) or direct planimetery in patients with rheumatic mitral valve stenosis. Two dimensional transthorasic echocardiography (2D TTE) is a well-known conventional method in these patients which is used routinely. This method is less accurate than 3D TEE because mitral valve is saddle shaped and 2D images cannot image this valve correctly [1-7]. Exact method for 3D mitral valve area measurement is not determined yet and MPR was used as an accurate method. Direct planimetery by 3D TEE emerged as a novel method to evaluate mitral valve area with least variability [8].
