Jenkins, Gregory Kendall. "The Altered Mobile Home: A Stationary Image of Work and Value." TopSCHOLAR®, 1990. http://digitalcommons.wku.edu/theses/1712.

Full text
Abstract:
As the medium cost of conventional housing rises, many people unable to incur such an expense look for alternative forms of adequate housing. In rural areas surrounding Bowling Green, Kentucky, several families have utilized the mobile home as a base to expand, embellish, and personalize, creating a larger more conventional-looking home. Many of these altered homes possess gabled roofs, rock exterior walls, and expansive interior space. Of primary concern is: why have these families undertaken a project of this nature? As material culture scholars and folklorists examine our built environment, they find relationship between construction and the builders. What can the altered mobile home tell us about these individual builders? A contextual analysis examining the surrounding landscape, economic dilemmas, and personal aesthetics and values help elucidate each altered mobile home. Also, by examining the individual builder’s work technique, materials, and values associated with housing, one can understand how each mobile home is a direct reflection of its owner. Since the mobile home’s creation, the public’s conception of the form has led to claims that it is not a housing form, but rather an accessory for the automobile. Steadfast values associated with housing have not adhered to the image of the mobile home. Because of this ambiguity, the mobile home is an ideal form for individuals to mold and alter, thereby creating a form imbued with personal aesthetics and personal values concerning housing. These ideas are examined through analysis of four families.

Schnoor, Andrea. "Redefining masculinity : the image of civilian men in American home front documentaries, 1942-1945." Virtual Press, 1999. http://liblink.bsu.edu/uhtbin/catkey/1133730.

Full text
Abstract:
Redefining Masculinity presents an analysis of the American government's portrayal of civilian men in World War II documentary films. The majority of the films, which serve as a primary source for this study, were created by the Office of War Information (OWI) as a means of stimulating home front support for the war. The government's portrayal of civilian men advocated a significant modification of gender roles. According to the OWI, men understood the politics of war, were aware of the national context of sacrifices, and were able to carry the government's message into American households and defense plants. As a result of their war consciousness, civilian men in government documentary films partially claimed the traditional domestic realm of women and redefined American gender roles as interactive and overlapping. The intersecting gender spheres in OWI films exemplify that men experienced manhood not in isolation from women. This propagandized image of civilian men during the Second World War supports the claims of scholars who criticize the ideology of "separate spheres" to describe socially constructed domains of the male and female gender. In contrast, the thesis findings show that the social, political, and economic definitions of male and female roles can be altered, extended, or adjusted when economically, politically, and culturally expedient.

Abstract:
To light up the world of technology, where wireless communication has bloomed to a great extend which requires a lot of data to be transmitted and received every fraction of the second a new era is coming. Electro-magnetic waves i.e., radio waves are the main way to transmit wireless data but certain limitations are there because radio waves can only support less bandwidth because of compact spectrum availability and intrusions. Visible Light Communication (VLC) has come to take way those issues. The new technology Li-Fi which stands for Light-Fidelity is a new kind of wireless communication system which uses light waves as a medium instead of radio frequency electromagnetic waves. This pro-ject presents an eco-friendly data communication system through visible light which consists of LEDs that transmit audio signals and sensor data to the receiver. A connection protection mechanism that co-operates with wireless network and visible light communication to achieve relia-bility and performance overcoming the drawbacks from the pre-existing system is proposed here.

Parker, Deonne. "Haunted dwellings, haunted beings : the image of house and home in Allende, MacDonald, and Morrison." Thesis, McGill University, 2002. http://digitool.Library.McGill.CA:80/R/?func=dbin-jump-full&object_id=79801.

Full text
Abstract:
This study examines the image of house and home as the reification of our domains as living, dwelling, housed beings in three novels: Isabel Allende's The House of the Spirits; Anne-Marie MacDonald's Fall On Your Knees; and Toni Morrison's Beloved. Being human, we form through perception, build through forming, dwell in building, and perceive through dwelling. Through close reading and analysis, this thesis examines questions of: If we are how we dwell, then what happens when the structures and the spaces of our dwellings become haunted? What happens when "home" becomes a facade that suspends necessary elements of dwelling? This study projects that if we are how we dwell, the very nature of our being entails a constant questioning of what it is we allow a presence to in our how we form, build, dwell, and perceive within both tangible and intangible realms and the influential perspicacity literature bears within this process.

Smith, Robert James. "EARLY ADOLESCENT SELF IMAGE: AN EXAMINATION OF A TEACHER/ADVISOR PROGRAM (GUIDANCE, HOME BASE, PESONALIZATION)." Diss., The University of Arizona, 1986. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/188164.

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of a teacher/advisor program on early adolescents' perception of self image. A review of the literature revealed much which proclaims the virtues of the teacher/advisor program but at the same time demonstrated an absence of any significant research which verifies that such programs, in fact, accomplish what their proponents claim. Because a notable amount of research supports the inclusion of educational experiences which heighten self image, determining specifically what effects a teacher/advisor program has would satisfy the need to validate the credibility of this concept and aid middle level educators in assessing its value. A pretest-posttest control group design with multiple measures of self image was employed. The sample consisted of 145 seventh grade students from two middle level schools. The experimental group came from a 6-7 school with a total of 73 students participating, 37 male and 36 female. The control group came from a 7-8 school with 72 students participating; both males and females numbered 36. Subjects were administered a questionnaire, which was composed of seven self image or transition research, at the beginning of the fall semester and again nine weeks later. Subjects in the experimental group received a thirty minute per day teacher/advisor program during this time interval. The findings of this study revealed significant group effects for the measures of victimization and perceived self image. For the measures of anonymity, self-consciousness, and the three self-esteem measures, however, group effects were not observable. Furthermore, examination of the results using gender as a variable showed no significant difference in any of the seven self image constructs. The data indicate that participation in a teacher/advisor program tended to suppress perceptions of victimization, which can be construed as a positive effect, and to lower perceived self image, which can also be viewed as beneficial if construed as a more realistic occurrence.

Abstract:

Media and culture are interrelated, which shapes what is culturally relevant. War films reflect a culture?s view on war as well as the viability of a culture?s mythology of war. Grounded in the concepts of war myth and genre, this thesis takes the stance that the Iraq and Afghanistan War film genre transforms the image of the American warrior. Iraq and Afghanistan War films, specifically The Hurt Locker, Green Zone, Lone Survivor, and American Sniper illuminate the destructive reality of war and the humanness of the warrior hero. They reaffirm the warrior?s heroism and sacrifice while also acknowledging war as damaging to the warrior?s psyches, hearts, minds, and bodies.

Luo, Dan, and Hao Yang. "Who cares about Country of Origin product image? : a study of Chinese consumers' perception of Swedish furniture & home-decoration products." Thesis, Uppsala universitet, Företagsekonomiska institutionen, 2019. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:uu:diva-388559.

Full text
Abstract:
Background: The sociodemographic characteristics of consumers, as important determinants of consumer behavior, has not received much attention in research on Country of Origin (COO) effect. In practical, the rapid progress of urbanization in China has brought great demand in the furniture and home-decoration market. Sweden has variety of world-famous furniture and home-decoration brands and most of these have established business in China. There has rarely been research on Chinese consumers’ perceptions of Swedish furniture and home-decoration brands. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of Chinese consumers’ sociodemographic characteristics on COO product image in terms of Swedish furniture and home-decoration products and how this affects and influences purchase intentions. Methods: Quantitative research is used in this study through a survey based on an online questionnaire. We test our research model with seven hypotheses based on the survey consisting of 269 valid questionnaires from Chinese consumers. Findings: This empirical study investigates Chinese consumers’ perceptions of Country of Origin image in their evaluation of Swedish furniture and home-decoration products and examines how these are affected by consumers’ sociodemographic characteristics. Taking into account the distinct situation of the Chinese market, we disentangle sociodemographic aspects: age, gender, education and individual income, especially in terms of overseas experience and the scale of city in which the consumer lives. We posit that Chinese consumers’ perceptions of Swedish furniture and home-decoration products vary across distinct facets of sociodemographics. Our finding is that age, education, overseas experience and scale of city do have a significant effect on COO product image, but that age and individual income do not significant influence COO product image.

Na, Hana. "A study on detection of risk factors of a toddler's fall injuries using visual dynamic motion cues." Thesis, Brunel University, 2009. http://bura.brunel.ac.uk/handle/2438/3214.

Full text
Abstract:
The research in this thesis is intended to aid caregivers’ supervision of toddlers to prevent accidental injuries, especially injuries due to falls in the home environment. There have been very few attempts to develop an automatic system to tackle young children’s accidents despite the fact that they are particularly vulnerable to home accidents and a caregiver cannot give continuous supervision. Vision-based analysis methods have been developed to recognise toddlers’ fall risk factors related to changes in their behaviour or environment. First of all, suggestions to prevent fall events of young children at home were collected from well-known organisations for child safety. A large number of fall records of toddlers who had sought treatment at a hospital were analysed to identify a toddler’s fall risk factors. The factors include clutter being a tripping or slipping hazard on the floor and a toddler moving around or climbing furniture or room structures. The major technical problem in detecting the risk factors is to classify foreground objects into human and non-human, and novel approaches have been proposed for the classification. Unlike most existing studies, which focus on human appearance such as skin colour for human detection, the approaches addressed in this thesis use cues related to dynamic motions. The first cue is based on the fact that there is relative motion between human body parts while typical indoor clutter does not have such parts with diverse motions. In addition, other motion cues are employed to differentiate a human from a pet since a pet also moves its parts diversely. They are angle changes of ellipse fitted to each object and history of its actual heights to capture the various posture changes and different body size of pets. The methods work well as long as foreground regions are correctly segmented.

Carlander, Ida. "Me-ness and we-ness in a modified everyday life close to death at home." Doctoral thesis, Ersta Sköndal högskola, Enheten för forskning i palliativ vård, 2011. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:esh:diva-1207.

Full text
Abstract:
The overarching aim of this thesis was to describe how family members experienced everyday life with life-threatening illness close to death, with focus on self-image and identity. The thesis comprises four papers, each with a specific aim to illuminate various aspects of the phenomenon under study. The study population consisted of 29 participants; ten family caregivers and five families, including five patients with life threatening illness and their family members. Data were based on retrospective single interviews (paper I), prospective individual, couple and group interviews with the families over six to eighteen month (papers II-III). Interpretive description approach (papers I, II, IV), narrative method (paper III) and secondary analysis (paper IV) were used to analyze data. The findings show how living close to death influences everyday life at home, at several levels (papers I-IV). From the perspective of the dying person, narrations of daily situations was described by four themes related to identity and everyday life; inside and outside of me, searching for togetherness, my place in space and my death and my time. The changing body, pain, fatigue, decreased physical capacity and changed appearance, appeared to influence the dying person’s need for altered knowledge and community, and as a result the patterns of interaction within the families changed. The strive for knowledge and community took place at home, an arena for identity work and the conscious search for meaning, knowledge and community; it was limited by time and inevitable death (paper III). For the family member, life close to death can mean sharing life with a changing person in a changing relationship (paper II). It may mean that everyday life needs to be modified in order for it to work (papers I-IV). New patterns of dependence and an asymmetrical relationship affect all involved (papers III-IV). Daily life close to death is about finding the space to promote the individual self-image, me-ness, at the same time as finding new ways of being a family; we-ness (paper II). Regardless of being the ill person or not, the family members we interviewed had to face impending death, which challenged earlier ways of living together (papers I-IV). From the perspective of the relatives, the everyday life of caring for the dying family member was characterized by challenged ideals, stretched limits and interdependency (paper I). Situations that challenged the caregivers’ self-image were connected to intimacy, decreasing personal space and experiences such as “forbidden thoughts”. The findings suggest that the bodily changes were of importance for the self-image, and that the former approach to the own body was important in the process of experiencing the body. The person living close to death was in transition to something new; being dead in the near future. One way of handling the struggles of everyday life was to seek togetherness, strive to find other persons with similar experiences while sharing thoughts and feelings. Togetherness was sought within the family, in the health care system and on the internet; a sense of togetherness was also sought with those who had already died. The other family members were also in transition as the future meant living on without the ill family member and changing their status to for example being a widow or being motherless. Identity work close to death denotes creating an access ramp into something new; a transition into the unknown. From a clinical perspective, this study emphasizes the significance of creating a climate that allows caregivers to express thoughts and feelings.

Andersson, Mattias, and Markus Sundemo. "Identitetsstärkande lösningar på hemmaplan." Thesis, Högskolan Väst, Avd för socialpedagogik och sociologi, 2013. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:hv:diva-5498.

Full text
Abstract:
The background to our research is a common interest in adolescent identity development. We have found no previous studies of how home solutions can contribute to a positive identity development so we considered it interesting to do such a study. The purpose of the research is based on a staff point of view to increase understanding of the meaning to the work with home solutions when it comes to taking advantage of and strengthen young people's positive identity processes. In order to answer this purpose, we have chosen to problematize questions about how identity formation takes place in their activities and how they with home solutions can strengthen these young people in a positive direction. We have used a social constructionist point of view throughout this research. To collect our material we have done six individual qualitative interviews that have been analyzed and processed using a qualitative content analysis. Our results shows that the staff group describes identity as socially constructed with and by the individuals context. They also describe that home solutions can contribute to a stronger identity development through their work, their view of man and ways of being. Our interpretation and conclusion is that the staff considers their work with home solutions contributes to influence young people's identity development in a positive direction. Since our study has a staff point of view it would be interesting to do further research on a youth perspective.

Abstract:
Aim: The purpose of this study is to identify factors that can attract customers to buy online and help the grocers to improve their online grocery services to retain and obtain customers. Design/Methodology/Approach: A qualitative method was used, based on triangulation methodology including observation and interviews of manager and employees. Quantitative data was collected by handing out questionnaire to 204 potential customers and 30 existing customers. Findings: The study shows that product and service quality, time saving and convenience, web page layout, customers’ trust in grocers (service providers), store image and advertising are the important factors that customers consider when they decide to use online grocer service. E- grocers also need to consider these factors when they start online grocery service. Suggestions for Future Research: An extensive study with large population sample and co- operation from other companies can help to generalize the results. Future studies can be extended to include drive-in and shared reception box service method, and consider the cost for the customers in e-grocery sector.

Abstract:
When the Berlin Wall began his fall, Cornelius Castoriadis suggested a peculiar task : the thought of a world in fragments. Every day occurs like the growing necessity of this labour. How can we find the strengh against the threat of a disappearance of political and social hopes? Our answer is to increase the gaze with an apparatus which is the cinema. From Tariq Teguia’s landscapes to Zhao Tao’s paths, from the melancholy of Filippos Koutsaftis to the sadness of Pasolini’s faces, several pictures show the ruins of our time. But these pictures still maintain a link with the being spectre, and the aim of another future. Along with Aby Warburg’s methodology and Ernst Bloch’s philosophy, cinema appears as a home of utopias which problematize our contemporaneity

Dewing, Wende L. "Perception of Color Quality for Natural Images Viewed, Edited, and Printed Within the Context of a Home Digital Color Imaging System." Diss., Virginia Tech, 1999. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/26232.

Full text
Abstract:
Within the home environment there exits a host of digital color imaging (DCI) system configurations. The combination of devices and software at the consumerâ s desktop with devices and services at a remote location (e.g., Print at Kodak), creates a complex interaction of device, contextual, and observer characteristics. In particular, the cathode-ray tube (CRT) display has the potential to influence consumersâ perceptions of image quality and their subsequent image manipulation activities. Depending on the inherent color bias and apparent contrast of the CRT, extensive image manipulation may occur, significantly altering the digital values of the image. Output generated by a remote printer will reflect any image manipulation undertaken by the consumer. If manipulation was extensive, what the consumer receives from a remote printer will appear quite different from the softcopy version and thus, may be deemed unacceptable. This research was designed to address the softcopy-hardcopy matching issues that arise from the home DCI system configuration just described. The primary study examined how the CRT display influenced perceived color quality of photographs generated at two points in a DCI system; on-screen photographs (softcopy) and photographic quality prints (hardcopy). CRT gamma, color temperature, and excitation purity were manipulated using an orthogonal, blocked, central composite design. Twenty-two Eastman Kodak Company employees viewed 6 photographs under each of the 15 CRT conditions. Participants rated the color quality of each softcopy photograph, then were given an opportunity to edit color balance, brightness, and contrast for each photograph. The edited photos were printed and rated once again for color quality and acceptability. Results indicated that monitor calibration influenced perceived softcopy color quality, softcopy editing behavior, and subsequent perceived hardcopy color quality. Perception of softcopy color quality ratings was determined predominantly by the CRT gamma level. Participants responded to CRT color balance differences through their editing behavior. In some cases, edits were large enough to significantly and negatively impact perceived hardcopy color quality. Gamma in particular, was the most significant predictor of hardcopy color quality ratings and rejection rates. Additional differences were observed between first- and third-party photographs. Results from this research may be applied to the development of monitor calibration tools, scene balancing algorithms, and software, for the purpose of accommodating consumer image manipulation behavior, in the context of the home DCI system presented herein.

The design of cultural centre is situated in part Kozia Hôrka( well-known city swimming pool), in its advantage takes natural scenery and calm atmosphere of place. Into action of performance brings a message in form of body of reservoir, function of centre is divided into small parts placed in area Kozia Hôrka. Orientation of objects comes mainly from local natural ispirations. Complex is multifunctional in concept, counts with several sorts of culture - sports events. Whereby the main function of swimming pool is preserved and added for higher comfort of inhabitants. Architecture of objects comes from idea of floating leaf on water level and body of reservoir. Objects stylizely illustrate this idea. The design takes the game of solids of organic and strictly ortogonal shapes. Two mutual opposites, in interaction. Objects smoothy and with respect encroach the environment, which is enough marked by human. Simplicity in used materials ( glass, steel, wood ) give transparency and purity to whole solution.

Abstract:
Since the 1980s, Montreal has been experiencing suburban sprawl off the island, in the form of neo-modern suburban development. Neo-modern suburbs are replacing both the local culture and natural ecosystems with a technocentric, Token Ecology - a modern symbolic representation of the natural environment. The purpose of this thesis is to find out how to change the technocentric image of ecological homes to a deeper ecological image. This thesis focuses on three central issues: (1) the three primary spaces that make up the habitus of the suburban home (2) the contradictory nature of the mind and action of the suburban image and lifestyle (3) the cultural infrastructures that affect the suburbanite's image. As a case study twenty participants who are young parents or soon to be parents from the Western Suburbs of Montreal (West Island and The Vaudreuil-Soulanges Region) were used to explore the transition to a deeper ecological image. The results form my research have concluded that: (1) the underlying reason why young parents chose to move to the westerns suburbs is that it offers the three primary spaces while the city does not (2) the technocentric image of ecological homes and communities can be attributed to the image construction of popular media and (neo)modern design. The image projected is heavily technological and scientific, neglecting building typologies, biodiversity, consumption and lifestyle habits. (3) If the proper cultural infrastructures are implemented the chances of attain eco-communities are significantly greater.

This study develops a system where a visible light camera captures an image, which is processed by a computer to extract the experimental target object size, color, and position. The condition of the target object on the scene is estimated after calcula-tion and matching by the pre-prepared database. Afterwards, the distance between the target object, the sensor, and the orientation are determined, which can be used in the action of the robot to provide more data, thus, the robot can analyze its position to do more jobs. Multiple image processing technologies are used in this research process, where a camera is combined with software and a robot for development. The features and color of a target object are extracted, the target object is separated from the scene, and the binarization, dilation, and erosion render the target object more accurate, as the grasping center point is analyzed by circular symmetry as a reference point. The robot sensor substitutes the attribute and data of the target object in the algorithm to obtain the distance information, which is combined with the angle information of the gyro-scope direction sensor, and compared with the prepared sampling database for calcu-lation, thus, precision is instantly corrected, and the position can be recognized and displayed.

The recognition algorithm of low-resolution (64x64 pixels) infrared image applied for home security system is presented in this thesis. Our recognition targets are humans, dogs and cats, because of the application for home security system. There are three procedures of our recognition algorithm: pre-processing, feature extraction and statistical pattern recognition. At first, in the pre-processing procedure, we threshold the image and label the object. The purpose of this procedure is to filter out noise and extract the object that we want to recognize. Secondly, we extract three features (standard deviations of vertical and horizontal projection histogram and ratio of area and perimeter) form the object got from pre-processing procedure. Finally, we create the Gaussian probability model and use this model to recognize the object with statistical pattern recognition method. The recognition result shows our recognition algorithm can effectively discriminate humans for dogs or cats. Besides, we design a digital signal processor-based circuit according to the need of home security system, and implement our recognition algorithm on the circuit.

“Art creation”is an activity by which the creator gets to express his feelings and communicate ideas to viewers. This “Image of Home: Photographic Creation” is a summary on art creation. The author thinks about the meaning of home by his personal experience in family life, and transfers his idea to the form of creation by making use of photographic image to express his thought that “home” is the place the family live together, the site pass their early lives, and the center that records the daily life of family and the communication of their emotion. On the one hand, concerning the perspectives, the author transfers the topic of creation from the social environment to home, and the “home” is still the basic unit of society. Through the interaction of emotion between self and home, the author tries to research the understanding and self-reflection in the society of image. On the other hand, with regard to the methods of research, the author presents his work via making experiments on the digital images with juxtaposed different layers. Between simulation and reality, audience’s sight of reading images is changed from straight to shifting around images, and therefore the audience’s reading habit of single point of view is changed. The form of work is not following to the popular trend, but reveals very internal impact, which the author deals with the issue in home. The basic concept of the form contains the information of this artwork, which reveals through the methods of metaphor and narration. By this experiment, the author tries to expand his new and personal vocabularies in the domain of visual art creation as his content of research. The following is the brief description of the structure for this thesis of the creation:Chapter 1. Introduction:This part deals with the author’s motives for creation, the objectives, methods for research, the definitions of the vocabularies, and the limitation of this research. Chapter 2. This part focuses on related articles of photography and the meanings of home to make data research. First of all, the author wants to research deeply into the photographic world by the study, analysis and comparison on the theories of photography. Then, he discusses the factors of changes of the photographic art, and considers the limitation and the direction on employing photography for his manner of art creation. Chapter 3. This part is concerning the author’s perspectives and practice on his art creation. The author re-thinks the inner definition of home, and at the same time, he makes experiments and exploration on the creation of image. By the process of thinking and arrangement of the words, he ponders the concept of this work to reach his deeper inner self. Chapter 4. This part is an analysis and interpretation on the author’s work. First of all, the author focuses on the choosing and applying of the appropriate format to the work, which can describe the given meaning to the work truthfully and completely. Furthermore, as regards the interpretation of the work, the author analyzes his emotional connection with the work by using a narrative approach to talk about the personal introspection, transformation of inner thoughts on the image of home and his memories of different periods of time. Chapter 5. This part is the conclusion in which the author reviews the process and the result of his art creation. Thereby, he can get motive power to face his art creation, and also consider the possible directions for the continuous development and improvements in the future.

Abstract This paper is mainly to design a Video Surveillance and Monitoring (VSAM) system whose feature is Real-Time, Accurate, Automated, and Digitized. The structure of this study consists of Charge Coupled Device (CCD), Image Capture Board (ICB), and Personal Computer (PC). When system is initiated, it provide users with the recording mode and the motion detection mode for which users can decide what mode will be used. The idea of the motion detection mode is to capture the front image from the CCD and ICB, then it employs three different grayed equation to gray image. After graying image, we take this gray image to subtract the background and binary method. Finally, we can monitor the image to check whether someone breaks into. If nothing found on image, we combine the front image and the background image to a new background one which can increase the stability of the system; if something breaks into, the computer starts to store the image and recodes the time, which can help police survey. And the system will alarm if someone breaks into. It can achieve the goal to suppress the guilt and to improve the drawback of the traditional monitor system. On choosing the program language to design our system, Borland C++ Builder 6.0 is adopted to execute the image processing and the user interface, and we combine the ACDSee5.0 to view the stored image in the database.

Abstract Regarding the past, there is always some memorable impressions stored in our mind. In my creation, I use a flashback approach to recall the imagery that has been passed away or phased out. Therefore, the past experience and current thought are entwined to represent on the canvas in forming new imagery. As a residential house that we are familiar and encounter daily, the notion of “Home” carries emotion and memory. Departing from the notion of “home” as a series of flashbacks, I trace back to explore my past and look forward to spark a dialogue about the self in relation to life and future. Thus, the creation of art is an alternative language for me to articulate the inner, deeper feeling situated between the expression of language and the emergence of consciousness. In this thesis, the introductory chapter begins with my motivation for creation, and then discusses the purposes of creation, research method, and terminology. In chapter two, I use perspectives of art, philosophy, cartographer and psychological analysis to approach the process of creation. I explore the differences between “her” and myself, as well as between memorial imagery and real existence. Chapter three is the analysis of creation. I examine the interrelationship among composition, medium, symbol, size, and style. Moreover, I question whether the preliminary sketch of an artwork is simply a sketch-in-progress, or sketch and finished work can respectively represent individual actions of creation. Chapter four analyses the process and technique employed on each work of art. In the concluding chapter, using the imagery emerged from the inner feeling, I ask, reflect, respond, and articulate the confusions and questions in the lived experience through my creation of art. With the experience of getting along with young children in children’s home, I intend to investigate and understand how the children develop family relationships with other people(caregivers/other children) in children’s home, and they how to view the relationships with them. Case study research(R. K. Yin, 1994/2001) was selected as research methodology in this paper to emphasize the completeness, uniqueness, and progress of the relationships. And, through the theory of attachment, I hope to explore whether the children develop secure attachment relationships with the people in children’s home or not. I have investigated five young children in a private children’s home, and collected the data from participant observation, semi-structured interview, documents. The findings of this research show that the children in children’s home can develop family relationships through rules complying, proximity seeking, and emotions exposing. They can also form the stable image of multiple rearing relationships with caregivers, and protest separation with family people in children’s home. Through viewing the findings and attachment theory, we can know that although the children show the need of attachment, but there are many disadvantageous factors in children’s home to hinder secure attachment relationships’ development. So, the children were generally developed unsecure attachment relationships with their family people in children’s home. At the end of the paper, I propose some suggestions to policy, children’s home, and caregivers.

In this thesis, a home security monitoring system is created. It includes three sub-systems, which are, a RFID access control system, a sensors and appliances monitoring and an image-based anti-intrusion system. In RFID and monitoring system, tag reader, sensors and home appliances are connected to Arduino, which is microcontroller board. The sensors’ status and the order from user are transmitted between Arduino and user interface (LabVIEW) through Bluetooth. Otherwise, user can upload the control panel of LabVIEW to server that admin can remotely monitor and control system via mobile phone through internet. In access control system, different to previous method, a function that is add new card and delete card instead of enter the password is created, therefore the overall security is enhanced. In the anti-intrusion system, the web camera and image processing method are combined, to substitute the passive infrared sensor (PIR). It can detect the intrusion and print save the image. Therefore, the user can know whether the house is in dangerous or not. Hence, the convenience and safety of the home security are strengthened.
