This study examines adolescent perceptions of death with a sample of 220 high school students. Variables examined were personifications of death, death anxiety, locus of control, self-esteem, and level of risk. Chi-square, regression analysis, and analysis of variance were used to analyze the data. High risk behaviors were negatively correlated with death anxiety. Males had higher risk scores and lower death anxiety scores than females. Females revealed higher death anxiety scores than males and lower self-esteem scores. High self-esteem correlated with an internal locus of control. Most stude

Human beings, aware of their finitude, have developed diverse strategies to resist the loss that death entails. One such strategy is the creation of images, a skill that allows for the restoration of a lost place in social space. However, the experience of image, and in particular that of the mortuary image, following Hans Belting's medial studies, invites us to recognize an intrinsic relationship between death and image due to the life-giving nature of the latter, suggesting more than a supplementary aspect in the face of death.
