In cryoEM 3D reconstruction, noise is spread over the entire 3D space, while the signal is present only within the molecular mask. The signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) within the molecular mask is the SNR of interest in data analysis. Any method that does not apply the molecular mask to noise underestimates the SNR. For instance, Fourier Shell Correlation (FSC) curves recalculated between two half-maps after the data are deposited in the PDB do not apply the molecular mask to noise, consequently providing a misleading impression of resolution. These approaches, relying on calculations without mask

Abstract:
Microstructure-sensitive design is performed using a newly developed Multiscale Complex Step Method. Algorithmic implementation of the complex-step method is based on conventional multiscale Taylor or FE2 direct model, with the difference being that the microstructural deformation gradient is modeled as a complex number with a small imaginary component. We introduce methods to calculate derivatives of microstructural fields with respect to loading parameters. The sensitivities are used to identify optimal microstructures with desired elastic and plastic properties.

Abstract:
A computer aided blank design method based on the potential theory and boundary element methods is presented. The potential theory approximately describes the material flow involved in deep drawing processes. Using the CAD model of an irregular shaped component, a specific number of cross sections at different heights can be generated. In order to obtain the blank shape, the outermost contour is determined by developing these sections gradually. This blank design procedure is like an imaginary reverse material flow governed by the potential theory. In addition, the boundary element method prov

Abstract:
In this paper, we examined an imaginary underperforming prototype of a real high bypass-ratio turbofan gas turbine engine that has been assembled to specifications. The prototype was designed and assembled to generate a predetermined value of specific thrust while consuming fuel at a predefined specific fuel consumption value. To meet the required performance targets, improvements needed to be made to one or more of the engine components. In most real world scenarios, the improvement of any or all engine parameters pertaining to its performance is tied to a cost per percentages of improvements
