Os anuros são os anfíbios mais conhecidos no mundo, com aproximadamente 5.067 espécies identificadas. O Brasil abriga a maior riqueza de anuros do planeta. Os sapinhosde- jardim, Rhinella fernandezae, são incluídos na família Bufonidae, para qual tem aumentado anualmente o número de espécies conhecidas. Para o Rio Grande do Sul existem registros de 17 espécies de anuros bufonídeos. Mesmo o Brasil abrigando a maior riqueza de anuros, estudos sobre a helmintofauna destes ainda são escassos. Espécimes de Rhinella fernandezae foram capturados, manualmente, com auxílio de páde- jardim em Imbé, RS.
