Abstract:
Start-up is an emerging micro-enterprise that has different characteristics to a larger and mature enterprise. Its viability depends mainly on a functioning business model. The purpose of the research study is to identify the basic types of business model regardless of the specific industry, and thus to penetrate deeper into the more general cognition of start-up business making. The research sample contains 106 start-ups, the business models of which are described using fourteen criteria, which are derived from the visualization of canvas. The research sample is divided by cluster analysis (Ward’s hierarchical agglomeration method) into nine clusters, hence types of business models. For a better understanding, the clusters were aggregated into four groups with similar business models. Grouping A is characterized by the model with a small range of processes, mostly with higher product differentiation, scarce resources and satisfying the common basic and higher needs. Grouping B is characterized by the model with a large range of processes and higher product differentiation and satisfying the common basic and higher needs or newer practical needs. Start-ups in grouping C have the model with considerable differentiation aimed at satisfying the common needs. Grouping D has the model based on cultivating relationships with customers, cheap satisfying of needs and use of ordinary resources. The models differ the most in the span of operational processes, segmentation and distribution, and differ the least in the relationships between customers, the cost–price ratio and protection against imitation. The practical use of the identified clusters lies in the fact that they are a reflection of the real behaviour of start-ups, they determine the real parameters of business models, and therefore they provide the founders of start-ups with verified patterns, the outlines of which are probably not definitive.

Abstract:
The conceptual apparatus of the categories «innovation» and «innovative development» is investigated in the article. Innovation is defined as a sphere of free ideas, covering the issues of organizational and methodological provision for continuous improvement of the enterprise activity, reproduction of rules and regulations governing the development and dissemination of innovations for the development of economic systems. It is substantiated that the essence of innovation is revealed through the processes of informatization and intellectualization with provision of the development of economic, social and information systems. Factors for ensuring the implementation of radical innovations are identified, namely: values (standards, priorities), procedures (formal, informal) and resources (tangible, intangible). The expediency of optimizing the model of enterprise organization on the basis of the development of a personalized parameter – the organizational code is determined. It is substantiated that the main idea of constructing the model of innovation management is the trinity of factors of balanced development, namely: understanding of the real situation, formation of expectations and development of necessary measures. The importance of imitation in the formation of the strategy of innovative development is determined and the stages of transformation of the organizational business model are described. The strategy of innovative changes focused on sustainable business development is proposed, which contributes to increase its efficiency and effectiveness. Emphasis is placed on the use of big data technology as an alternative to traditional database management systems, which contributes the efficient use of big amounts of data, stimulates the development of various management solutions and increases the ability to consider and evaluate alternatives to enterprise development. Innovation is identified as a central factor in the digital transformation and a priority of digital business development that is a new principle of efficiency and contributes to expand the target audience with increasing the scale of value proposition.

Abstract:
The entrepreneurship policy of the European Union has been shaped in three key policy areas: small and medium-sized enterprises, innovation and competitiveness. The present investigation will focus mainly on the first of these. The paper briefly overviews the conceptual and programmatic background of the EU's policies in that domain; discusses the current focus on quantitative targets, selected areas and national policies as an innovative experiment; and shows how, in the absence of a clear policy model, the comparison with the USA offers a functional surrogate device for identifying various policy areas to be targeted. The paper concludes that, despite its rhetoric, the EU does not have a central vision or strategy, but that what seems to be a flaw, ie an ad hoc innovative approach consisting of a combination of national-level experiments, might ultimately be a strength.

Abstract:
The concept of collaborative networks has been encountered very often lately as the answer when trying to adapt and improve enterprises in these highly competitive business environments, therefore the urge for constantly addressing this topic. A lot of work-related to collaborative networks has been done so far, from defining network types to leveling partnerships and proposing models for partnership developments. But the lack of tackling a very important obstacle, which is the difficulty of detecting and anticipating collaboration opportunities between enterprises, inspired this research. In this article, a new theoretical opportunity detection approach is proposed based on enterprise characterization concept, KPI classification as well as collaboration types. This detection approach is a table of industrial classifications that imitates the Mendeleev periodic table from the concept point of view. A fictional example from an industrial context is shown to explain the usage of this approach accompanied by discussion about future work and limitations.

Abstract:
In the innovative development of an enterprise, an important role should be played by the determination of methods for ensuring a long-term direction of development by choosing an algorithm of actions, that is, a sound strategy based on economic decisions, business approaches, ways of their implementation, and establishing relationships with other subsidiaries of the integrated structure. In conditions of tough competition in the markets, the only way to ensure competitive advantages for an enterprise can only be strategic management of innovative development, which is capable of providing long-term forecasting and implementation of the innovative goals and objectives set in the strategy. There are quite a few formulations and varieties of strategies for innovative development, among which the most characteristic types can be distinguished: offensive - typical for enterprises that base their activities on the principles of entrepreneurial competition and the creation of "breakthrough" innovations; defensive - aimed at maintaining competitive positions in existing markets; imitation - aimed at copying the consumer properties of innovations from other enterprises; “Niche” - aimed at adapting to narrow market segments with products with unique characteristics associated either with differentiation or with low costs. The mission of innovative development is formulated as follows: "The company guarantees its shareholders adherence to the innovative direction of development by developing and manufacturing high-quality innovative products that are not inferior to the best foreign models and generating high employee incomes, fulfilling obligations to society and profit to shareholders." Implementation of the strategy of innovative development should be reduced to constant monitoring of its implementation and adjustments, taking into account the changing external environment and internal conditions of the enterprise. This function at the analyzed enterprise is performed by the management of the enterprise, since its functions include not only the formulation of the strategy, but also the choice of methods for its implementation, as well as control and, if necessary, its adjustment.

Abstract:
The purpose of the article is to study the formation factors of the biofuels domestic market in the network of Ukrainian agricultural enterprises based on interaction marketing. The materials of the article are focused on the study of both the causes of dysfunction of the biofuels domestic market and the search for new factors in the formation of such a market. Research methods. The research methodology considered the motivation factor implemented in the form of a separate marketing policy of «interaction» as the basis for the formation of the biofuels market in Ukraine, where the main market agents were considered agricultural enterprises (as biofuel producers, consumers and business partners). In the course of the research, in addition to a number of general scientific methods of economic research, an experiment was used to assess the interest of managers in typical (for Vinnytsia region) agricultural enterprises in partnerships in the business of biofuels production. The solution of the problem provided influence modeling of separate factors on attitudes of the enterprises-recipients concerning partnership interaction in researched business on manufacture of biofuels on: 1) linear Markov analytical model; 2) a nonlinear Markov model with a nonstationary matrix of transition probabilities; 3) generalized Markov imitation (multi-version) model of transitions; 4) linear Markov simulation model with individual parameters of the elements; 5) nonlinear Markov simulation model with «training» of the elements. Thus, the dynamics of the model was determined by the change in the attitudes of many recipients about cooperation depending on: 1) the intensity of information links about the benefits and risks of cooperation; 2) the presence of the implementation system of motivational factors (production standards, a special type of marketing policy and partnership scheme). Research results. An empirical reflection of the agency base among this category is determined, which allows us to conclude that the number of potential business participants significantly exceeds the critical level, and the motivational factors for the partnership are at least significant. In contrast to the national biofuels market, where – in the absence of any protectionist policy – the business economy has shown low competitiveness in recent years, these results suggest the possibility of forming a new market type – agency, where business will be formed among agricultural enterprises, united by certain integration schemes on the basis of interaction marketing policy of the enterprise-business initiator. The efficiency basis of this market will obviously be the effect of minimizing the value chain both in terms of the participants’ number and the value added itself, which will significantly reduce the cost of production. Scientific novelty. Firstly, the question of the forming possibility – as an alternative – a new type of biofuels market in Ukraine in the absence, unlike all other countries, a state policy to support the industry; secondly, substantiation of the idea of a special marketing policy of the organizational level of the agricultural enterprise as a business initiator – the policy of «interaction»; third, the identification of the agency basis of this market in relation to domestic agricultural enterprises. Practical significance. The applied value of the results is considered as a basis for forming a business for the production of biofuels in the network of agricultural enterprises in the context of empirical forecasting of potential partners and the role of motivating factors for building such partnership schemes. Abstract:
International enterprises (in this paper, international companies are understood as companies that sell their products and services abroad) are precious for the national economy because, through their experience in international sales, they stimulate the development of other companies in the same industry and their subcontractors. The knowledge that these companies have gained on international markets through the spillover effect spreads on their suppliers, as well as through imitation or cooperation on their competitors. Also, international companies (in the meaning: domestic export companies) are often the first to use new technological solutions and product innovations, which contributes to the modernization of products in the entire business sector. Dynamic and robust international companies usually also build networks with entities from different countries in order to cooperate on development, negotiation, and sales, which also encourages similar activities of their competitors. For all these reasons, national governments should take action to help to export companies, or at least monitor the problems that such entities report. The purpose of the publication is to draw attention to the higher demand for the debt that exists in such enterprises and to discuss the reasons for this. In particular, the purpose of the publication was to verify 2 research hypotheses: H1: Internationalization increases indebtedness of a company measured with the debt to equity ratio, and H2: The scale of internationalization (measured with the share of foreign sales to total sales) is positively related to the level of indebtedness (measured with the debt to equity ratio). For both hypotheses we found no grounds to reject these hypotheses. In the opinion of the authors, the demand for debt from exporters should be monitored, especially in terms of the availability of this form of financing for exporters from the SME sector. The paper used the Arellano-Bond model and data downloaded from the Orbis database for years 2007 – 2017.

Abstract:
The crisis conditions of the enterprise functioning restrain the possibilities for the innovation activity and lay down higher requirements to the determination of the tasks of the financial strategy of development. To enhance the adaptive possibilities the authors propose to use an imitation-class mathematical model, indicate the basic stages of its creation, determine the structure: a control system; a functional system consisting of functional financial and economic blocks, an information system including a database. We distinguished the basic indices for the analysis of the ability of the enterprise to take strategic decisions of both financial and economic components of the mechanism of their realization. The practical realization of the proposed imitation model of the financialeconomic mechanism of taking strategic decisions based on the calculation of the integral index provides the required information basis for the grounded strategic decision and further development of the enterprise.

Abstract:
Background: In recent years, the Swedish taxi industry has undergone a number of changes as a result of increased digitalisation in a deregulated market. Most market players have emerged as a result of the freedom of establishment, which in turn has led to higher competition. Among these new entrants, the ride-hailing business model has had an impact by taking a traditional service and performing it differently. This thesis will thus examine how this approach has affected the Swedish taxi industry in more detail. Purpose: The thesis aims to increase understanding of the aspects of the ride-hailing business model that are specifically distinguished by the company Uber. The following secondary purpose is to identify the impact this specific business model has on the Swedish taxi industry as a result of Uber's establishment on the Swedish market. Method: The thesis is an abductive case study of qualitative character. The empirical data has been collected through three distinct approaches, which are the collection of scientific material, semi-structured interviews with three respondents and a Social Media Analysis consisting of data from approximately 100 independent articles and media publications. Furthermore, these three types of empirical data have been selected via a strategic selection. Conclusion: The result of this thesis shows that the specific aspects that stand out in Uber Sweden's use of the ride-hailing business model are value creation, differentiation, innovation and social acceptance. The results also show that the ride-hailing business model has influenced the Swedish taxi industry in terms of the specific aspects' influence on the development of the taxi market and on government regulations.

Lategan, Neil. "Epirismm: an enterprise information risk management model." Thesis, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, 2006. http://hdl.handle.net/10948/541.

Full text
Abstract:
Today, information is considered a commodity and no enterprise can operate without it. Indeed, the information and the supporting technology are pivotal in all enterprises. However, a major problem being experienced in the business environment is that enterprise risk cannot be managed effectively because business and information-related risk are not congruently aligned with risk management terminology and practices. The business environment and information technology are bound together by information. For this reason, it is imperative that risk management is synergised in the business, ICT (Information and Communication Technology) and information environments. A thorough, all inclusive, risk analysis exercise needs to be conducted in business and supporting environments in order to develop an effective internal control system. Such an internal control system should reduce the exposure of risk and aid the safeguarding of assets. Indeed, in today’s so-called information age, where business processes integrate the business and ICT environments, it is imperative that a unary internal control system be established, based on a holistic risk management exercise. To ensure that the enterprise, information and ICT environments operate free of the risks that threaten them, the risks should be properly governed. A model, EPiRISMM (Enterprise Information Risk Management Model) is proposed that offers to combine risk management practices from an ICT, information, governance, and enterprise perspective because there are so many overlapping aspects inherent in them. EPiRISMM combines various well-known standards and frameworks into one coherent model. By employing EPiRISMM, an enterprise will be able to eliminate the traditional segmented approach of the ICT department and thus eliminate any previous discontinuity in risk management practices.

Abstract:
Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) retail businesses in many countries, including Thailand, are facing challenges of high competition, as modern retail formats have grown rapidly in many Asian countries such as Singapore, Taiwan, China and Thailand (Howard, 2009). Thus, SME retail Businesses are facing an "innovate or die" situation, as non-adapting retail firms have always been and will continue to be driven out of the business (Evans, 2011). A new critical capability of retail business is the ability to configure and reconfigure its processes into a coherent blueprint - known in other words as a Business Model (Sorescu et al., 2011). The research question becomes "How can SME retail Business in Thailand successfully compete through Business Model Innovation?" Business Model Innovation requires system wide changes, since modifying one component always has network effects on other components (Tikkanen et al., 2005). There is no fixed method or successful formula that all companies will adopt; therefore disciplined experimentation and adaptation is recommended (Berman, 2011; Chesbrough, 2010; McGrath, 2010; Mitchell et al., 2003; Teece, 2010). However, most past studies on innovation are about large companies (Tim, 2004) and not many articles cover empirical studies on Business Model Innovation. In particular, few studies address the dynamic view (Demil and Lecocq, 2010; Svejenova et al., 2010; Sosna et al., 2010).This research focuses on the implementation of Business Model Innovation within SME retail business. The research uses a methodology called Action Research, and was conducted within the researcher's organization, which is a SME retail business in Thailand. This overcomes the practical challenges of studying SME business, which is related to limited opportunity to conduct empirical research. The study was conducted over the 4 year period from October 2010 to August 2014 by implementing Business Model Innovation in order to exploit opportunities in rural areas. Business Model concepts were employed as sources of innovation and units of analysis. Action Research consists of multiple cycles of changes and adaptation. It was found that Business Model concepts can be represented at different levels of abstraction from reality. At a high level of abstraction, the Business Model Canvas helps to understand the overview of the firm's business logic in a broad way, and provide ideas about what can be adapted. At the operational level, the Retailing Business Model provides a structural approach to the conceptualisation, planning and implementation of activities that support high level changes. In all, Business Model Innovation can be conceptualised as an ongoing learning process similar to the iterative cycles of Action research. These cycles consist of constructing actions, planning, taking actions and evaluating actions. The Business Model concepts at different levels of abstraction can be used for understanding and planning, as well as to capture learning experiences, both on the high level and on the operational level. Therefore, Business Model Innovation is a dynamic process where changes and learning happen continuously. Such a process enables SME retail businesses to improve their understanding of their Business Model and thus improve their chances of success?

Abstract:
Enterprise Architecture is so far the highest development step in IT's architectural description of enterprises. At the beginning, just technological architecture existed. However, with the quickly growing complexity of IT other domains occurred, that had to be described. Information or application architectures can serve as examples. IT then realized, that it needed to add to its IT architectures a business view and consequently the discipline Enterprise Architecture came into being. Strategic management is crucial for the development of each enterprise. The thesis focuses on the strategic management of business and the strategic management of IT. The strategic management of business consists of a business strategy and an operating model. To the strategic management of IT then belongs an information strategy and IT governance. Business-IT alignment further explores and ensures the accord between the strategic management of business and the strategic management of IT. The aim of the thesis is to describe the relationship of Enterprise Architecture and the different forms of strategic management and to express to which rate Enterprise Architecture supports them. The explored relationships are: - The relationship of Enterprise Architecture and business strategy - The relationship of Enterprise Architecture and operating models - The relationship of Enterprise Architecture and information strategy - The relationship of Enterprise Architecture and IT governance - The relationship of Enterprise Architecture and business-IT alignment The goals of the thesis are reached via theoretical research and subsequent deduction. The author's personal asset consists of creating a hierarchical model of Enterprise Architecture, of defining Enterprise Architecture's reaction to business strategies, of modifying the methodology MMDIS in respect of information strategy, of depicting, how Enterprise Architecture can be used in IT governance, of illustrating, where Enterprise Architecture contributes to business-IT alignment and of assessing, to which rate Enterprise Architecture supports the different forms of strategic management.

Abstract:
There has been an unexpected wave of growth in social entrepreneurship globally (Bornstein, 2004). This growth is followed by the number of research in the field. Academic research has been mainly focused on defining what it is, what it does and does not have in common with commercial entrepreneurial activity (Nicholls, 2006). Thus, there has not been many studies related to the business model of social enterprise. Osterwalder & Pigneur (2010) believes that every organization has a business model, regardless the word ‘business’ not used as descriptor. This description includes social enterprise. Social enterprise, not unlike business enterprise, creates and delivers value and it must generate enough revenue to cover its expenses. By acknowledging that social enterprise has a business model, it opens itself to business model innovation with advantages to optimize its operations, deliver more values through effective channels, capture more values through profits and growth and drive innovation. This research is conducted on Indonesia Mengajar, a social enterprise in Indonesia that has no experience in business model design or Business Model Canvas using qualitative methods and interpretive paradigm. Primary data is collected from interviews with Indonesia Mengajar. Secondary data comes from books, articles, journals and websites. The data are analysed with grounded theory method. By completing Business Model Canvas (Osterwalder & Pigneur) complemented with literature review and critical analysis of Indonesia Mengajar, the objective of this research to understand business model of social enterprise can be achieved. From this research it is found that adjustments are necessary for Business Model Canvas to capture the business model of social enterprise and based on the findings, it is concluded how social enterprise creates, delivers and captures value.

During the last decades, the circular economy has enabled a new kind of business model that is challenging the traditional linear way of doing business. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate how an international social enterprise work towards a circular business model, as well as the challenges and opportunities that comes with operating in an emerging market. Previous research on the subject is limited which leaves a research gap in existing literature. Indonesia is an emerging country that is struggling with a weak recycling infrastructure and   lack of waste management, which has resulted in an ocean plastic pollution problem.   In the theoretical framework, relevant aspects of the circular economy, social enterprises and opportunities and challenges with operating in an emerging market are presented. A conceptual framework concludes the literature review by illustrating how the concepts ties together. In order to answer the research questions, a qualitative research method has been followed throughout this single case study, combined with an abductive approach. The data has been collected through semi-structured interviews presented together with secondary data, in order to get a deeper understanding of the case. By examining an international social enterprise with operations in an emerging market, findings on what opportunities and challenges this social enterprise encounter in Indonesia are presented together with how they work towards a circular business model. This study indicates that the international social enterprise challenges the linear way of doing business and can be set as an example for other companies that has a social mission and wants to do business in a sustainable way.   The analysis discusses the relation between the theoretical concepts and the empirical findings, together with observations from the authors. The analysis is followed by the concluding chapter where the contributions are stated, and the research questions are answered, followed by implications, limitations and suggestions for future research. The findings showed that international social enterprises can find opportunities in infrastructure- and institutional gaps in emerging markets. In addition, the findings indicate that a strong social mission can reduce the challenges of operating in an emerging market. The findings have contributed to introducing the social enterprise phenomenon into the international business research field, as well as international social enterprises operating in emerging markets. The authors also provide their definition of the concept ‘social enterprise’.

Abstract:
Magister Commercii (Information Management) - MCom(IM)
Purpose: The research aims to validate whether the proposed beta version of a Business Architecture Assessment Model (BAAM) can be usefully extended to organisations. Design/methodology/approach: The research draws from existing literature to further extend the scope of the BAAM. The literature review includes a description of Business Architecture (BA) and investigates the requirements of maturity models. The literature did reveal that the beta version of the BAAM’s maturity levels should be extended from the initial 3 levels to 5 well documented maturity levels (i.e. the roadmap). A focus group consisting of various subject matter experts evaluated the BAAM using an interpretative survey. The focus group approved the BAAM with some minor recommendations. The online BAAM survey was then deployed at eight (8) organisations to collect data on the level of maturity of the organisations’ business architecture. The output of the BAAM consists of a roadmap and the assessment results which assist organisations to improve their business architecture maturity. Findings: The literature review revealed that maturity models exist, but not many focus specifically on BA maturity. Those that does exist primarily focuses on the methodology involved in BA but do not specifically point out areas where the content matter of BA can be improved upon.
