An increased share of construction with timber is one possible way of achieving more sustainable and energy-efficient life cycles of buildings. The main reason is that wood is a renewable material and buildings require a large amount of resources. Timber buildings taller than two storeys were prohibited in Europe until the 1990s due to fire regulations. In 1994, this prohibition was removed in Sweden.     Some of the early multi-storey timber buildings were associated with more complaints due to impact sound than concrete buildings with the same measured impact sound class rating. This study looks at the impact that the National Certification of Educational Achievement (NCEA) has had on teacher collegiality in New Zealand. It is an exploratory study using an in case and cross case method, located in four secondary schools with a range of demographics. I was interested in gathering the information from teachers in three key roles: Assistant teacher, Head of Department and Principal's Nominee, finding out what their views were on the change that the NCEA has bought to their professional lives and the impact made on their collegiality. The literature reviewed shows there i

Hibbard, Daniel James. "The Impact of Signal Bandwidth on Indoor Wireless Systems in Dense Multipath Environments." Thesis, Virginia Tech, 2004. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/9945.

Abstract:
Recently there has been a significant amount of interest in the area of wideband and ultra-wideband (UWB) signaling for use in indoor wireless systems. This interest is in part motivated by the notion that the use of large bandwidth signals makes systems less sensitive to the degrading effects of multipath propagation. By reducing the sensitivity to multipath, more robust and higher capacity systems can be realized. However, as signal bandwidth is increased, the complexity of a Rake receiver (or other receiver structure) required to capture the available power also increases. In addition, accu

Abstract:

Glover, N. "Investigating the impact of trees on airflow within street canyons through the use of CFD and field measurements." Thesis, University College London (University of London), 2015. http://discovery.ucl.ac.uk/1472912/.

Abstract:
The local wind climate within the urban environment plays a key role in the removal of heat and pollutants from pedestrian occupied areas as well as having an impact on pedestrian comfort and safety. One component of the urban landscape which is often neglected in the consideration of airflow is tree planting which can constitute a major component of the built environment. The aim of this research was therefore to gain a greater understanding into the effect of tree planting on airflow within street canyons and investigate the use of CFD modelling in predicting such effects. This aim was accom

Abstract:
In our experiments, the icing temperature of small water volumes placed on different pyroelectric single crystals (SrxBa1−xNb2O6, LiNbO3, and LiTaO3) was determined using two measurement setups: (1) the sessile droplet and (2) ring system method. In the first method, a free-standing water droplet was exposed to several external factors in the air environment. This was found to lead to higher icing temperatures compared to the second method where the water was more isolated from external factors such as evaporation. In the second method, the material of the ring system was found to be an import
