Abstract:
Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technique in communication system has been widely researched. Compared with single-input single-output (SISO) communication, its properties of higher throughput, more e?cient spectrum and usage make it one of the most significant technology in modern wireless communications. In MIMO system, sphere detection is the fundamental part. The purpose of traditional sphere detection is to achieve the maximum likelihood (ML) demodulation of the MIMO system. However, with the development of advanced forward error correction (FEC) techniques, such as the Convolutional code, Turbo code and LDPC code, the sphere detection algorithms that can provide soft information for the outer decoder attract more interests recently. Considering the computing complexity of generating the soft information, it is important to develop a high-speed VLSI architecture for MIMO detection. The first part of this thesis is about MIMO sphere detection algorithms. Two sphere detection algorithms are introduced. The depth first Schnorr-Euchner (SE) algorithm which generates the ML detection solution and the width first K-BEST algorithm which only generates the nearly-ML detection solution but more efficient in implementation are presented. Based on these algorithms, an improved nearly-ML algorithm with lower complexity and limited performance lose, compared with traditional K-BEST algorithms, is presented. The second part is focused on the hardware design. A 4*4 16-QAM MIMO detection system which can generate both soft information and hard decision solution is designed and implemented in FPGA. With the fully pipelined and parallel structure, it can achieve a throughput of 3.7 Gbps. In this part, the improved nearly-ML algorithm is implmented as a detector to generat both the hard output and candidate list. Then, a soft information calculation block is designed to succeed the detector and produce the log-likelihood ratio (LLR) values for every bit as the soft output.

Abstract:
Background: The accumulating concern for environmental change has increased the need for companies to take a closer consideration to the negative impact of their operations. One effective approach to mitigate the impact is to, from the very first stages when a product is developed, analyse the environmental impact of the product’s entire lifecycle from the raw materials extruded from the ground to the disposal of the product. This type of practice is often referred to as eco-design. Unfortunately, the rate of companies implementing these practices are progressing slowly and a truly sustainable society is yet not in reach. Purpose: This study aims to investigate some of the most commonly cited obstacles in previous research. These problems can be concluded as the lack of specialized competencies, regarding the environmental impact of products in design teams. The reason this is problematic is that the practice of eco-design often requires a lot of information to be interpreted by a person with knowledge in the field. Companies have attempts to solve this issue by hiring eco-design specialists, however this often leads to difficulties in communication and disagreements with product developers. Therefore, this relationship between different stakeholders has been the second focus of the thesis. To find solutions to these problems the topic will be investigated from a knowledge management perspective. Method: To begin with, background data was reviewed to give a firm understanding of the topic and to create the basis of the theoretical framework. Later a multiple case study of two companies were performed and empirical data was gathered mainly from interviews. The empirical findings were analysed and compared to the theoretical framework in order to answer the research question. Conclusion: The results show that implementing eco-design in a company's product development can be hard in the implementation phase but when the practices are established the flow of information receives less problems. Furthermore, the hiring of professional eco-designers can be a good choice although they need to be implemented directly into the design teams.

Cowley, Christopher K. "Synthetic voice design and implementation." Thesis, Bournemouth University, 1999. http://eprints.bournemouth.ac.uk/412/.

Full text
Abstract:
The limitations of speech output technology emphasise the need for exploratory psychological research to maximise the effectiveness of speech as a display medium in human-computer interaction. Stage 1 of this study reviewed speech implementation research, focusing on general issues for tasks, users and environments. An analysis of design issues was conducted, related to the differing methodologies for synthesised and digitised message production. A selection of ergonomic guidelines were developed to enhance effective speech interface design. Stage 2 addressed the negative reactions of users to synthetic speech in spite of elegant dialogue structure and appropriate functional assignment. Synthetic speech interfaces have been consistently rejected by their users in a wide variety of application domains because of their poor quality. Indeed the literature repeatedly emphasises quality as being the most important contributor to implementation acceptance. In order to investigate this, a converging operations approach was adopted. This consisted of a series of five experiments (and associated pilot studies) which homed in on the specific characteristics of synthetic speech that determine the listeners varying perceptions of its qualities, and how these might be manipulated to improve its aesthetics. A flexible and reliable ratings interface was designed to display DECtalk speech variations and record listeners perceptions. In experiment one, 40 participants used this to evaluate synthetic speech variations on a wide range of perceptual scales. Factor analysis revealed two main factors: "listenability" accounting for 44.7% of the variance and correlating with the DECtalk "smoothness" parameter to . 57 (p<0.005) and "richness" to . 53 (p<0.005); "assurance" accounting for 12.6% of the variance and correlating with "average pitch" to . 42 (p<0.005) and "head size" to. 42 (p<0.005). Complimentary experiments were then required in order to address appropriate voice design for enhanced listenability and assurance perceptions. With a standard male voice set, 20 participants rated enhanced smoothness and attenuated richness as contributing significantly to speech listenability (p<0.001). Experiment three using a female voice set yielded comparable results, suggesting that further refinements of the technique were necessary in order to develop an effective methodology for speech quality optimization. At this stage it became essential to focus directly on the parameter modifications that are associated with the the aesthetically pleasing characteristics of synthetic speech. If a reliable technique could be developed to enhance perceived speech quality, then synthesis systems based on the commonly used DECtalk model might assume some of their considerable yet unfulfilled potential. In experiment four, 20 subjects rated a wide range of voices modified across the two main parameters associated with perceived listenability, smoothness and richness. The results clearly revealed a linear relationship between enhanced smoothness and attenuated richness and significant improvements in perceived listenability (p<0.001 in both cases). Planned comparisons conducted were between the different levels of the parameters and revealed significant listenability enhancements as smoothness was increased, and a similar pattern as richness decreased. Statistical analysis also revealed a significant interaction between the two parameters (p<0.001) and a more comprehensive picture was constructed. In order to expand the focus of and enhance the generality of the research, it was now necessary to assess the effects of synthetic speech modifications whilst subjects were undertaking a more realistic task. Passively rating the voices independent of processing for meaning is arguably an artificial task which rarely, if ever, would occur in 'real-world' settings. In order to investigate perceived quality in a more realistic task scenario, experiment five introduced two levels of information processing load. The purpose of this experiment was firstly to see if a comprehension load modified the pattern of listenability enhancements, and secondly to see if that pattern differed between high and and low load. Techniques for introducing cognitive load were investigated and comprehension load was selected as the most appropriate method in this case. A pilot study distinguished two levels of comprehension load from a set of 150 true/false sentences and these were recorded across the full range of parameter modifications. Twenty subjects then rated the voices using the established listenability scales as before but also performing the additional task of processing each spoken stimuli for meaning and determining the authenticity of the statements. Results indicated that listenability enhancements did indeed occur at both levels of processing although at the higher level variations in the pattern occured. A significant difference was revealed between optimal parameter modifications for conditions of high and low cognitive load (p<0.05). The results showed that subjects perceived the synthetic voices in the high cognitive load condition to be significantly less listenable than those same voices in the low cognitive load condition. The analysis also revealed that this effect was independent of the number of errors made. This result may be of general value because conclusions drawn from this findings are independent of any particular parameter modifications that may be exclusively available to DECtalk users. Overall, the study presents a detailed analysis of the research domain combined with a systematic experimental program of synthetic speech quality assessment. The experiments reported establish a reliable and replicable procedure for optimising the aesthetically pleasing characteristics of DECtalk speech, but the implications of the research extend beyond the boundaries of a particular synthesiser. Results from the experimental program lead to a number of conclusions, the most salient being that not only does the synthetic speech designer have to overcome the general rejection of synthetic voices based on their poor quality by sophisticated customisation of synthetic voice parameters, but that he or she needs to take into account the cognitive load of the task being undertaken. The interaction between cognitive load and optimal settings for synthesis requires direct consideration if synthetic speech systems are going to realise and maximise their potential in human computer interaction.

Abstract:
Our understanding of the effects that human production and consumption has on our planet and its resources has challenged us to think differently when developing new products. In response to these problems, Eco Design has been developed over the last few decades. Eco Design is a process integrated into product and engineering design that aims to lower the environmental impact of products across their life cycle, whilst not hindering design brief criteria such as function, price, performance, and quality. Research in Eco Design has focused mainly on the development of new tools and ways to implement Eco Design in industry. However, there is still little empirical knowledge today regarding the state of Eco Design implementation and practices in industry; in addition to the prerequisite needs and factors to successfully implement Eco Design. The aim of this research has been to review the level and type of Eco Design in the British Product Design industry and to identify recurrent themes helping or hindering implementation. This was achieved through the use of a pilot study followed by a two stage case study design, involving 20 cases and 57 participants across 65 interviews. The investigation and its analysis produced 12 confirmed themes, each generating their own drivers and barriers to Eco Design implementation. This research into Eco Design implementation provides a unique contribution and a timely insight into the Eco Design practices of the British Product Design industry today. The research also provides the novel contribution of identifying the drivers and barriers to implementing and sustaining Eco Design, as well as an understanding of the strengths and shortfalls of the current Eco Design processes and tools. These contributions to knowledge in the field of Eco Design will help future research formulate better solutions to implement Eco Design processes in the Product Design industry.

Abstract:
Modeling spatiotemporal data, in particular fuzzy and complex spatial objects representing geographic entities and relations, is a topic of great importance in geographic information systems, computer vision, environmental data management systems, etc. Because of complex requirements, it is challenging to design a database for spatiotemporal data and its features and to effectively query them. This thesis presents a new approach for modeling, indexing and querying the spatiotemporal data of fuzzy spatial and complex objects and/or spatial relations. As a case study, we model and implement a meteorological application in an intelligent database architecture, which combines an object-oriented database with a knowledge base.

Abstract:
This work has been focused on implementing, into CAD (Solid Works), a UAV-design by Enebog. The design has been given to the author on meetings and mail. A “living” document with design parameters was updated from both sides continuously throughout the project. The measurements/dimensions of the aircraft were discussed as well as how to implement in CAD. All updates were also continuously updated in the document. The UAV is built up as an assembly in CAD, with sub-assemblies and parts. The parts are designed with the standard work bench in Solid Works and mated together to form an aircraft. Center of gravity and mass properties of the parts were calculated in Solid Works and exported to Excel for the purpose of presenting the data. The result is 7 2D drawings attached to a 3D model. The aircraft has a wing span of 2,7 meters (8,68 ft), with a corresponding wing area of 0,91 m2 (9,8 ft2). The total length is dimensioned to 1,87 m (6,14 ft) and the total mass is calculated to 8,68 kg (19,14 lbs), which is also the aircrafts takeoff weight. The aircraft is designed to be built with two composite materials; carbon fiber/epoxy and glass fiber/epoxy. In the drawing material plan views with dimensions of the aircraft, detail views of e.g. the nose pod in the front part of the aircraft, an exploded view with a corresponding build of material-table was generated.

Abstract:
Securing SCADA systems is a critical aspect of Smart grid security. As sophisticated attacks continue to target industrial systems, the focus should be on planning and developing new security techniques that will adapt to the SCADA environment and protocols. Traditional SCADA protocols such as DNP3, Modbus and ICCP do not support encryption, authentication and data integrity in their native form. Although they can be secured with VPN tunnels, IPSEC adds significant network overhead and complexity to the end hosts. SCADA devices may lack the computing resources to implement this kind of technique. In this thesis, a security design is proposed that can help make communications between the master stations and slave devices in a SCADA network secure without putting additional overhead on the remote devices. This research designs a SCADA Security Device (SSD), which can work in conjunction with other network elements to implement a secure architecture for SCADA protocols. Several components of the SSD were implemented and tested during this research to evaluate the security features in a SCADA network.<br>Thesis (M.S.)--Wichita State University, College of Engineering, Dept. of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.

The program is run on PPCs, Pocket PC, and it's used by stockroom workers to make the everyday work easier. The application has functions for handling goods that arrive at the warehouse. It also handles several different types of picking-lists and functions for balance and inventory.During execution, the warehouse system connects to a business system called Movex/M3. The business system is large and very complex, and it has a lot more functions than Snitcher Warehouse has use for. To do even the simplest form of demonstrating and troubleshooting with the application, you need a connection to the business system and specific test data in it. Prevas has wanted that a simulator be developed for the warehouse system. That is to remove the dependency of having a large business system running in the background. This will make the warehouse software a lot easier to demonstrate, develop and troubleshoot. The degree project was to develop a simulator in accordance with the specifications provided by Prevas. Visual Basic was used as the programming language to implement the simulator. This was a desire from Prevas' side and it was the natural choice since the rest of the program also was written in VB. The construction of the simulator is meant to be dynamic. This means that it’s supposed to be able to adapt to the different needs and possibilities of the warehouse application. The goal for the simulator is to make it simple to use and at the same time makesure that it can support most of the functions that a connection to a real enterprise resource can.</p>

Abstract:
The AESCU-BIKE project is a cargo bike which has an inbuilt off-grid photovoltaic and a monitoring system. The off-grid photovoltaic system consists of a PV module, a lithium-ion battery, a lead acid battery, a charge controller and an electrical fridge. The PV module produces electrical energy which is used to cover the demand of an electrical fridge to supply enough cooling to store and transport pharmaceutical at temperature ranges between 0 °C and 8 °C within the city of Ulm. The monitoring system acquires, saves and plot information regarding the performance of the AESCU-BIKE such as voltages, currents, irradiance, temperatures, location and speed.  The first aim is to theoretically estimate the performance of the off-grid photovoltaic system during summertime and verify that the off-grid photovoltaics system components match. The second aim is to experimentally verify the theoretical estimation of the off-grid photovoltaic system performance during summertime by designing and implementing a monitoring system. The third aim is to visualize in real time information regarding the performance of the AESCU-BIKE. This information is used for an instant analysis of both transportation quality and correct functionality of the off-grid photovoltaic system. A user interface is programmed by using the software Nodered which can be installed in any smart device such as a computer, a smartphone or a Raspberry Pi.  Three different tests are performed to experimentally verify the theorical estimation of the off-grid photovoltaic system performance during summertime. Information such as PV module electrical energy production, fridge electrical energy demand, fridge temperature, ambient temperature, location and speed are plotted and analyzed using the software Excel.  After the results analysis, it is concluded that the monitoring system provides essential information to validate theoretical estimations and to deeply understand the behavior of the off-grid photovoltaic system. Regarding the PV module electrical energy production, losses related to the lack of a MPPT, not optimal PV module inclination angle and shading effect are clearly understood. Regarding the fridge electrical power demand, it is shown that the energy demand is highly related with the ambient temperature. The user interface makes the entire system more friendly. The instant visualization of the measurements helps the user to relate the physical phenomena with the system behavior.

Abstract:
Abstract:
A rapidly changing environment for industrial technology companies operating on a global market has increased the competitiveness and accelerated the rate of new technologies. The demands on companies to be more efficient and innovative without compromising quality are thereby enlarged. To maintain competitiveness and meet customer expectation a well-functioning product development is essential. Correcting product quality issues on newly developed products becomes increasingly more expensive the later it takes place in the development process and problems that arise can often be linked to the product design. In order to secure that new product development projects efficiently can deliver high quality products without compromising cost targets and time-to-market Design Assurance can be applied during the product development. The intention is to uncover and detect problems in the design and prevent errors to occur in the engineering process, by executing controls to assure design has been completed according to standards and policies.  This project aims to investigate Design Assurance to further establish the concept at Alfa Laval BU HSS and describe how product quality is assured in product development. Analysis of literature studies, interviews at Alfa Laval BU HSS as well as benchmarking at three companies; Atlas Copco Industrial Technique, Getinge (Maquet Critical Care division) and Tetra Pak, provide the basis of the results in this study. The results show there are a number of factors greatly influencing an organization’s ability to ensure product quality in product development. Key factors identified in this study are cross functional team work, the internal culture in the organization, firmly established product strategies, product development processes and requirement management and validation capability. These factors can be seen as essential conditions for ensuring product quality during development and prerequisites for establishing Design Assurance at Alfa Laval BU HSS. Key building blocks in the Design Assurance capability are identified and described, which include reviews of actions and project documentation that safeguards continuous improvements and prevent future deficiencies.

碩士<br>國立臺灣大學<br>電機工程學研究所<br>91<br>Mixer performs frequency translation of the carrier signals in the front end of any communication system. Active mixers, such as the Gilbert cell, are popular because they offer advantages such as high gain, high port-to-port isolation, and reduced local oscillator power requirement. We design and implement the micromixer, the variation of Gilbert cell, to achieve the high frequency operation. With the assistant of GaAs HBT and SiGe HBT technology, the mixing circuit can be extended to 5 GHz band or even higher. We successfully integrate the mixer integrated with other components in receiver. Two monolithic integrated chips of micormixers are presented using GaAs HBT and SiGe HBT technology. In the first part of the thesis the mixing operations is described and pratical mixer nonidealities and related performance matrics are introduced. Several mixer topologies are discussed. In the second part of the thesis, we design and implement mixers and receivers. In the active GaAs HBT double balance mixer, it is found that a power conversion gain of 12 dB are achieved from DC to 9 GHz for a small local oscillator power of —8 dBm. The linearity of this mixer is very good: the input P1dB is -4 dBm and IIP3 is 2 dBm. The LO-to-IF and RF-to-IF isolation is beyond 15 dB in the frequency band from 1 to 10 GHz. Wideband input match is achieved. The supply voltage is 5 V and the total quiescent current of the circuit is 5mA including the bias circuit. In the SiGe HBT double balance mixer, The voltage conversion gain is 26 dB at RF frequency 5.7 GHz and LO frequency 5.6 GHz. The input referred P1dB is —14 dBm. The isolation between three ports is beyond 30dB. And wideband input match is measured for S11 below -20 dB from 500 MHz to 6 GHz. The supply voltage is 3.3V and power consumption is 13.2 mW. Two monolithic integrated chips of receivers are presented using GaAs HBT technology in the thesis. One receiver is designed for input RF frequency 5.2 GHz. The other one is designed for input RF frequency 2.4 GHz. The 5.2 GHz receiver, because of the shifted LO oscillation central frequency, is not functioning well as simulation. But it still has gain 9 dB when LO frequency is 4.3GHz and RF frequency is 4.2 GHz. The input referred P1dB is —9 dBm.In the 2.4 GHz receiver, the measured power conversion gain is 43 dB. The input referred P1dB is —58 dB. The IIP3 is —56dBm.

It can be implemented on most of the existing copper infrastructure, enabling the rapid offering of new high-speed data access services with minimal expense. In ADSL-based access network, DSLAM (Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer) is the concentration point for broadband and narrowband services, which usually located in the central office. In this dissertation, we describe the system architecture and system components of DSLAM. Major design concepts are discussed: the POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) splitter, backplane access device, upstream cell multiplexing, cell header translation, UNI (User Network Interface) signaling, ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) layer OAM (Operation, Administration and Maintenance), scalability and intra system communication. We develop a novel backplane architecture and design/implement the circuit boards and FPGAs (Field Programmable Gate Array). The DSLAM now supports the ATM PVC (Permanent Virtual Circuit) connections and the conversion from PVC-based to SVC (Switched Virtual Circuit)-based services can be provided through a software upgrade. Function of our designed system is verified by applying rate and interoperability tests.

Since the HTML pages can present static text and image in much higher resolution than that presented by a low bit-rate video clip, we believe that the optimal mode for a Web-based distance lecture is to use (1) streaming video clips for the audio/video lecturing, and (2) dynamically loaded HTML pages to present the lecture notes navigation process. To this end, in this thesis, we have designed a “Live/On-Demand Synchronized AV/HTML Distance Lecture System” to synchronize the presentation of the streaming video lecture, the HTML-based lecture notes, and the HTML Navigation Events. We propose a “Web-based Synchronized Hypermedia Lecture (WSHL)” framework to automate the recording of the media presentation events based on the SMIL specification. The WSHL framework consists of three major modules: (1) WSHL Recorder- for recording the temporal information of the AV lecture and the HTML-based lecture notes navigation process. (2) WSHL Event Server- for receiving, multicasting and depositing WSHL events. (3) WSHL Browser- for presentation of the synchronized AV lecture and HTML-based lecture notes navigation. To evaluate the performance of the propose framework, in this stage, we have applied the RealSystem to implement a prototype Synchronized AV/HTML Distance Lecture System using Java/JavaScript. The prototype system demonstrates the feasibility of the proposed framework.

The main purpose of this study includes: (1) configuration of framework for developing design policy, (2) investigation of the influence of design policy on culture economy. According to the socioeconomic conformation, reformation of government role and impact of culture economy, four factors are expounded for the formation of a nstional design policy, furthermore, an "Interactive Force Structure of Design Policy System" framework was configured to observe different country''s design policy development. Not following the White Paper’s form of configurating design policy, it emphasizes a set of concept by governmental actors, social actors and design advocacy-community groups. According to this set of concepts, it follows a "polity-politics-policy" three-level model, from top to down to pass through a complete theory framework, to inspect and structure three new models: (1) the polity formation level of design governance model, (2) the politics intent level of design policy making model and (3) the policy management level of design policy implementation model. The implementation of antennas not only reduces the manufacturing cost but also decreases the antenna size and shrinks the size of the system further. In this thesis we implemented two kinds of antennas. One is a loop antenna, which is a double-band antenna for RFID usage. The other is a CPW fed antenna. By considering the feed of the antenna we design a new matching network to improve the return loss of the antenna. The frequency bands of the antenna are located on RFID、WLAN and WIMAX bands. The analysis and design of two antennas are simulated by using simulation software, IE3D and HFSS. The antennas are fabricated on single metal layered PCBs. All pentagonal patches are fed by coplanar waveguide and their impedance bandwidths can fully cover various communications bands, respectively. This thesis describes two pentagonal monopole antenna designs, the first design is to be applied to three-band monopole antenna design of wireless local area network; antenna structure comprises a regular pentagon radiation metal plate implanted slot, and asymmetric metal cut line extends to fully cover the operating frequency of 2.4-, 5.2- and 5.8-GHz WLAN. The 2.4-GHz band is excited by the regular pentagonal basic mode (fundamental mode), which can be applied to the applications of WLAN 802.11b band; 5-GHz band is excited by the embedded slot and extended tuning stub, which can be applied to the applications of 5.2- and 5.8-GHz WLAN 802.11a band. The second one is a UWB monopole antenna design with a regularly pentagonal patch. Through the rearrangement of the pentagonal patch fed by coplanar waveguide, a UWB monopole antenna design can be implemented easily. Because this antenna is with lightweight, simple features, small size (40 × 45 mm2), and fully covering the ultra-wide band (3.1 ~ 10.25 GHz), it can find its applications on wireless communications.

Full text
Abstract:
博士<br>國立交通大學<br>電子工程系所<br>94<br>This dissertation investigates the channel decoders from algorithms to architecture designs and circuit implementation. Three different decoding schemes are studied, including the algebraic, the probabilistic, and the iterative decoding algorithms. The Reed-Solomon code based on the algebraic decoding is exploited to many system specifications. We apply the Montgomery multiplication algorithm to the universal finite field multiplier; as a result, the arithmetic units are capable of different finite field definitions. The Reed-Solomon decoder is constructed based on the proposed arithmetic operations and modified for less complexity. Hence the decoder can be applied to many systems without circuit modification. The chip implementation results show that the overhead due to the universality is no more than 100%. Moreover, the decoding speed from the measurement can meet most current or future applications. The maximum-likelihood decoding, Viterbi decoding algorithm, for the convolutional code is widely used in many digital communications. The low power design techniques for the Viterbi decoder are proposed for the dynamically survivormemory access and the datapath transformation. The survivor memory unit with the path merging and the path prediction algorithms can adaptively adjust the truncation length according to the channel conditions. Combining a cache buffer, we can avoid many read operations in the memory, leading less power consumption. On the other hand, we also transform the add-compare-select (ACS) operation to compare-select-add (CSA) for less computations resulting in lower cost as well as lower power dissipation. The implementation results indicate about 30%~40% power reduction is accomplished with the proposed architecture. The high speed and area efficient Viterbi decoder is also presented with the two-dimensional ACS structure. The decoder on the radix-16 trellis is implemented and shown to achieve over 1Gb/s data throughput. iii We further conduct the research into the iterative decoding based turbo codes and low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes. The turbo decoder is considered in the mobile communication system with large interleaver size. The simple decoder architecture is utilized for cost consideration, and the memory is optimized for power consumption. The unified turbo and Viterbi decoder chip is also shown to achieve better energy efficiency. The LDPC decoder is designed for high speed applications for its highly parallelizable decoding algorithm. Because of the irregular parity check matrix and the large number of processing elements, the register exchange memory is introduced to accommodate the large message passing in the decoder. As a result, the circuit implementation leads to a high decoding speed, which is 5.92Gb/s, and area efficient decoder chip whose chip density is larger than 70%. In this dissertation, the research includes different channel decoding schemes as well as their implementation for applications. Exploring the system requirements, we provide various design methods and analysis for the decoders. Finally, the circuits are realized for measurement or analysis, and the results reveal the positive consequence as expected.

Abstract:
This dissertation uses theoretical and empirical tools to answer applied questions of design with an emphasis on issues relating to safety and crime. The first essay incorporates safety in implementation theory and studies when and how safe mechanisms can be designed to obtain socially desirable outcomes. I provide general conditions under which a social choice rule can be implemented using safe mechanisms. The second essay is an empirical study of how criminals respond to changing profitability of crime, a question that informs the policy debate on the most effective crime fighting methods. I find that the price elasticity of theft is about 1 in the short term and increases to about 1.2 over a seven-month horizon, suggesting that policies that directly affect crime profitability, such as policies that shut down black markets or those that reduce demand for illegal goods, can be relatively effective. The third essay shows that any standard implementation problem can be formulated as a question about the existence of a graph that solves a graph coloring problem, establishing a connection between implementation theory and graph theory. More generally, an implementation problem can be viewed as a constraint satisfaction problem, and I propose an algorithm to design simple mechanisms to solve arbitrary implementation problems.<br>text

Shottky diodes are commonly used for microwave detection. Because it is a majority carrier component, and that the point contact plane is smaller for higher switching speed, as compared with p-n junction diodes. However, the junction capacitance of same economic bipolar junction transistors which applied in microwave frequency is small enough to perform fast switching. Thus it can be need to replace Shottky diode to implement microwave detection functions. The advantages of these devices are energy saving and high efficiency. The input voltage fluctuations, load variations as well as parametric uncertainty are the major factors which would affect the steady voltage output performance of the switching power converters. Robust control theory is one of the powerful methodologies to deal with the sorts of problems. However, little research results have been found on the design and implementation of robust controllers by the theory for the power converters. Therefore, this thesis deals with the design of robust controllers for DC-DC Buck converters, using CPLD (Complex Programmable Logic Devices) to realize the system in order to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method. This thesis addresses the design problem, provides the solution, and performs hardware implementation in a systematic way. Abstract:
碩士<br>朝陽科技大學<br>資訊工程系碩士班<br>95<br>Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) is one of the most major transport layer protocols with characteristics of reliable transmission and strict ordering. However, the function of strict ordering causes the latency of transmission, called Head-Of-Line (HoL) Blocking when the packet loss happens. This is due to the delay of retransmission for the lost packets. On the other hand, the three-way handshake in TCP can be cracked easily. Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) proposed the Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) with characteristics of multi-streaming, multi-homing. Also, the four-way handshake in SCTP could avoid the denial of service (DoS) attacks. However, Most of the current network equipments do not support the SCTP protocol, in this thesis, we proposed the design and implementation of SCTP tunnel proxy. The SCTP tunnel proxy could support the communication between TCP networks, and uses SCTP to transmit the data between TCP networks reliability with the advantage of SCTP.

Abstract:
碩士<br>國立中興大學<br>電機工程學系<br>91<br>This thesis described the implementation and design of wideband amplifier variant topology. There are eleven implemented GaInP / GaAs HBT wideband amplifiers, one SiGe BiCMOS wideband amplifier, and three CMOS wideband amplifiers to justify our design theory. The trade-off between —3dB gain bandwidth and matching bandwidth is found in the case of using emitter peaking technique. The advantages and disadvantages among simple two-stage wideband amplifier, Kukielka wideband amplifier, and Meyer wideband amplifier are also compared and discussed. The gain and noise performance is experimented and the conclusion is that implementing high gain and low noise figure wideband amplifier could be achieve simultaneously. The advantage of blocking feed forward transistor is found and the drawback is that it degrades the output matching. At last, a SiGe wideband amplifier is implement and the performance is good.
