Abstract:
<p> The complexity of the manufacturing process has motivated manufacturers to consider testability as a requirement to assure the reliability and the functionality of each of their designed circuits. One of the most well-known test techniques is called Built-In-Self-Test (BIST). A BIST Universal Asynchronous Receive/Transmit (UART) has the objectives to firstly satisfy specified testability requirements and to secondly generate the lowest-cost with the highest performance implementation. UART has been an important input/output tool for decades and is still widely used. Although BIST techniques are becoming more common in industry, the additional BIST circuit that increases the hardware overhead increases design time and performance degradation is often cited as the reason for the limited use of BIST. </p><p> This project focuses on the design of a UART chip with embedded BIST architecture using Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) technology. The paper describes the problems of Very-Large-Scale-Integrated (VLSI) testing followed by the behavior of UART circuit using Verilog. In the implementation phase, the BIST technique will be incorporated into the UART design before the overall design is synthesized by means of reconfiguring the existing design to match testability requirements. The UART is targeted at broadband modems, base stations, cell phones and other designs. BIST is a design technique that allows a circuit to test itself. In this project, the test performance achieved with the implementation of BIST is proven to be adequate to offset the disincentive of the hardware overhead produced by the additional BIST circuit. The technique can provide shorter test time compared to an externally applied test and allows the use of low-cost test equipment during all stages of production.</p>

Abstract:
Auditory brainstem response (ABR) evaluation has been one of the most reliable methods for evaluating hearing loss. Clinically available methods for ABR tests require averaging for a large number of sweeps (~1000-2000) in order to obtain a meaningful ABR signal, which is time consuming.  This study proposes a faster new method for ABR filtering based on wavelet-Kalman filter that is able to produce a meaningful ABR signal with less than 500 sweeps. The method is validated against ABR data acquired from 7 normal hearing subjects with different stimulus intensity levels, the lowest being 30 dB NHL. The proposed method was able to filter and produce a readable ABR signal using 400 sweeps; other ABR signal criteria were also presented to validate the performance of the proposed method.

Abstract:
This thesis reports on the design, simulation and implementation of a novel Implementation for a Wavelet-based Broadband Signal Detection System. There is a strong interest in methods of increasing the resolution of sonar systems for the detection of targets at sea. A novel implementation of a wideband active sonar signal detection system is proposed in this project. In the system the Continuous Wavelet Transform is used for target motion estimation and an Adaptive-Network-based Fuzzy inference System (ANFIS) is adopted to minimize the noise effect on target detection. A local optimum search algorithm is introduced in this project to reduce the computation load of the Continuous Wavelet Transform and make it suitable for practical applications. The proposed system is realized on a Xilinx University Program Virtex-II Pro Development System which contains a Virtex II pro XC2VP30 FPGA chip with 2 powerPC 405 cores. Testing for single target detection and multiple target detection shows the proposed system is able to accurately locate targets under reverberation-limited underwater environment with a Signal-Noise-Ratio of up to -30db, with location error less than 10 meters and velocity estimation error less than 1 knot. In the proposed system the combination of CWT and local optimum search algorithm significantly saves the computation time for CWT and make it more practical to real applications. Also the implementation of ANFIS on the FPGA board indicates in the future a real-time ANFIS operation with VLSI implementation would be possible.

Abstract:
Many software applications involve models of data that are manipulated by the application. There is often a need to transform (or translate) the data from one model, into another in which the data is differently structured. In addition, there is an increasing requirement to pass data between different applications, which invariably have different formats for their data models. Both of these issues require a translation of the modelled data from one form to another. The process of translating a model from one form to another is known as model transformation or model translation. The literature on model transformation includes a number of techniques for specifying transformations. However, the majority of these techniques are grammar-based specifications, many of which use a textual grammar, although some make use of graphical (graph) grammars. These subsequently lead to a monolithic one-step implementation process that performs the transformation. This thesis addresses two issues that are related to the area of model transformation. Firstly, it addresses the need for a standard notation that can be used for writing model translator specifications. Secondly, a technique for implementing model translators is developed that actively performs the transformation. Rather than a single step process, that must be executed every time the source model changes, the active implementation approach presented performs a continuous translation updating the target model every time a change is made to the source model. The specification technique makes use of the standardised Unified Modelling Language (UML) and Object Constraint Language (OCL) for specifying a transformation relationship between two object-oriented models, each of which is also specified using UML and OCL. The implementation approach uses an event-based version of the observer pattern enabling the construction of translator to be formed from a number of mini-translator parts, each of which monitors a small set of components. These mini-translators act upon events generated by the model components and update the transformed components to reflect the changes. The specification and implementation techniques described can be applied to many problem areas. In particular this thesis discusses their application to Multiple View Visual Languages (i.e. the UML itself) and automatic performance model generation.

Abstract:
This project presents an attempt to construct a setup and implement a reliable technique for measuring the magnetocaloric effect (MCE) on various materials via a direct method for the acquisition of the data. The main objective of the latter is to produce a ∆Tadiabatic vs T graph over a reasonable temperature span (-100◦C up to 220◦C) by thermal monitoring of a magnetic material exposed to an oscillating magnetic field with a maximum strength of 1.2T. The setup consists of a vacuum-insulated glass tube containing the sample placed between two electromagnets of a vibrating-sample magnetometer (VSM) and increasingly heated by a resistance wire, while the temperature is recorded directly by a thermocouple. The first experiments are performed on Gadolinium (Gd) samples as a reference material in order to verify the overall reliability of the system. The obtained results on Gadolinium show that meaningful data can be acquired with this direct method, although the initially-extracted ∆Tadiabatic near room temperature stands at the accuracy limit (25%) generally accepted with this method. Unexpected interference signals from the thermocouple are encountered for high temperatures and are shown to be due to magnetic dependence from one of its constituents. Data from high temperatures can however be reliably corrected with respect to a baseline signal from a neutral nonmagnetic material. As such magnetocaloric properties of two Manganese-rich high entropy alloys are investigated with one exhibiting at most ∆Tadiabatic = 0.2◦C at its Curie temperature TC = 60◦C. Suggestions regarding the possibility of operating the setup at sub-zero temperatures are put forward and promising results from a new spot- welded thermocouple show a significantenhancement of the initial setup accuracy.<br>Detta projekt presenterar ett försök att konstruera en installation och implementera en pålitlig teknik för att mäta den magnetokolorisk effekten (MCE) på olika material via en direkt metod för insamling av data. Det sistnämnda syftet är att producera en ∆Tadiabatisk vs T över ett rimligt temperaturintervall (-100◦C up to 220◦C). Detta genom en termisk övervakning av ett magnetiskt material utsatt för ett oscillerande magnetfält med en maximal magnitud på 1.2 T. Utrustningen utgörs av ett vakuumisolerade glasrör som innehåller provet, vilket är placerat mellan två elektromagneter från en vibrating-sample magnetometer (VSM) och som stegvis värms upp av en resistanstråd, medan temperaturen registreras direkt av ett termoelement. De inledande experimenten utförs på prover av Gadolinium (Gd) som referensmaterial för att verifiera systemets totala tillförlitlighet. De erhållna resultaten från Gadolinium proverna visar att meningsfulla data kan produceras med denna direkta metod. Även om de extraherade ∆Tadiabatisk vid rumstemperatur befinner sig inom precisions gränsen (25%), vilken är allmänt accepterad med avseende på den direkta metoden. Oväntade missvisande signaler från termoelementet uppträder vid höga temperaturer och visar sig bero på magnetiskt beroende från instumentet. Data från höga temperaturer kan emellertid pålitligt korrigeras med en baslinjesignal från ett neutralt icke-magnetiskt material. Därmed undersöks de magnetokoloriska egenskaper hos två Mangan-rika hög entropi legeringar, där en uppvisar som högst ∆Tadiabatisk = 0.2◦C vid dess Curie-temperatur TC = 60◦C. Förslag beträffande möjligheten att använda installationen vid temperaturer under noll läggs fram. Lovande resultat från ett nytt punktsvetsat termoelement visar en betydande förbättringav den inledande installationens noggrannhet.

The power supply designers choose flyback topology due to its promising features of design simplicity, cost effectiveness and multiple outputs handling capability. The designed product based on flyback topology should be smaller in size, cost effective and energy efficient. Similarly, designers focus on reducing the circuit losses while operating at high frequencies that affect the converter efficiency and performance. Based on the above circumstances, an energy efficient open loop high frequency flyback converter is designed and operated in MHz frequency region using step down multilayer PCB planar transformer. The maximum efficiency of 84.75% is observed and maximum output power level reached is 22.8W. To overcome the switching losses, quasi-resonant soft switching technique is adopted and a high voltage CoolMOS power transistor is used.

Philosophiae Doctor - PhD<br>The rapid expansion of the ART programme in South Africa has placed an additional service demand on an already stretched public health infrastructure. The main aim of this study was therefore to analyse the implementation of the ART programme in KwaZulu- Natal province using the Donabedian Model of structure, process and outcome in order to develop an ART delivery model. Ethical approval to conduct this research was issued by the University’s Senate Research Committee. The first phase of the study used a descriptive quantitative approach to review existing data from government departments to analyse the ART programme. A checklist with the list of indicators for the three elements of the study; the structure, process and outcome were used to collect data. A pilot study was conducted and the Cronbach Alpha test was used to determine the rigour of the study. In the second phase, a systematic review of studies on implementation of the existing models of ART programme was conducted using quantitative descriptive approach. The Quality Appraisal Tool was used to determine the validity of the research findings from the literature. In phase 3, both qualitative and quantitative approaches were used to conduct the Delphi study which included a group of experts in the field of HIV and ART programme. Responses from the participants were modified to determine the reliability of the study. The study found that there were structural problems such as shortages of antiretroviral drugs and delays in the return of laboratory results. The systematic literature review found that there were only two community-based ART models in South Africa, namely; the adherence clubs and community-based adherence clubs. These two models of ART delivery were implemented only in Cape Town.

<p> This thesis implements a state-of-the-art solution separation advanced RAIM (ARAIM) algorithm as it is written as reported in the literature. Specifically, a GNSS fault detection and exclusion algorithm for a multi-constellation GNSS was implemented in software and tested against simulated data. RAIM algorithms have been created in many forms over the last couple of decades and are still in development today. The position solution results produced by this ARAIM algorithm were compared to that of a snapshot weighted least squares (WLS) solution in which failed satellites are removed before processing and an WLS solution with no corrections applied. In addition, the difference in position solution between ARAIM and the simulation truth was compared to the ARAIM reported horizontal and vertical protection limits, as well as, the position performance criteria. This thesis also investigates the performance of the exclusion method and how it affects the performance of the overall ARAIM algorithm. The algorithm implemented and tested in this thesis will be used as a basis of comparison for on-going research into robust GNSS processing techniques. </p><p>

Ingeniera Civil Eléctrica<br>La Tomografía de Ruido Ambiente (ANT) consiste en una técnica de busca modelar áreas y estructuras cuya novedad es que utiliza el ruido ambiente como herramienta. Este tipo de señal suele ser eliminada en técnicas como la Tomografía Sísmica (TS), la cual es la más ampliamente utilizada, especialmente en el área de la minería para la exploración de yacimientos. A diferencia de ANT, ésta hace uso señales de alta energía como terremotos y explosiones artificiales, por lo tanto, dentro de su procesamiento elimina este ruido. En zonas con baja actividad sísmica no es posible utilizar TS, por lo que es necesario desarrollar técnicas alternativas. ANT es una de las opciones que cumple, además de ser amigable con el medio ambiente. Una de las problemáticas tanto de ANT es que no cuenta con un ground-truth. Dado esto, no se puede saber con certeza qué tan cercano es el modelo estimado a la realidad. Para intentar resolver esto, actualmente sismólogos contrastran los resultados provenientes de ST o usan información de previo conocimiento del área, pero no es suficiente. Era necesario el desarrollo de una plataforma sintética, que fuera lo más cercano a la realidad posible. Sobre ésta se implementa la técnica de tomografía de ruido, con el objetivo de identificar las variables que influyen en la estimación, tales como la posición de estaciones, la frecuencia de la fuente, velocidad del medio, entre otras. También esta plataforma debe cuenta con un ground-truth para determinar los errores de estimación. En el presente trabajo, ésta plataforma fue implementada en lenguaje Python. Cada etapa de la metodología y fue probada sobre tres escenarios sintéticos con diferentes caracteríasticas de estructura. Se estudiaron las variables de interés y se realizó un análisis sobre cada etapa. También se logró entregar una visualización clara y apropiada de los resultados. Este trabajo sirvió para crear una base de conocimiento sobre esta nueva técnica para que pueda continuar siendo desarrollada y mejorada. Diversas mejoras potenciales fueron identificadas y se entregaron diversas soluciones para su posterior implementación en futuras campañas para el mejor provecho de los recursos existentes.<br>Este trabajo ha sido parcialmente financiado por Proyecto CORFO 14IDL4-300327 EXPLORACIÓN MINERA POR TOMOGRAFÍA SÍSMICA

For decades, unresolved conflicts have negatively influenced the general public through increased violence, overwhelming the judicial system. A literature review suggested that between 15% and 20% of conflicts result in an impasse. This study was designed to understand how the implementation and application of the transformative meditation technique (TMT) is used to resolve conflicts. The purpose of this qualitative case study was to investigate the interpretation and implementation of TMT. This qualitative case study was grounded in the conceptual framework of interest-based negotiation (IBN) principles. The research questions focused on mediators' perceptions, interpretations, and depth of knowledge, as well as the effectiveness of the transformative mediation technique (TMT) as an improvement over evaluative or facilitative techniques in resolving conflicts and reducing impasses. Twenty face-to-face interviews were conducted with purposefully selected mediators. Data were coded and analyzed to identify recurring themes: interests, needs, responsibility, relationship, empowerment, problem solving, and negotiation. The findings of the data analysis revealed that mediators were familiar with TMT; interpretation and implementation varied with mediator style. Moreover, most mediators were not highly educated in TMT. In addition, it was found that simply having knowledge of TMT did not prepare mediators to apply the technique appropriately. Mediators were more attracted to the hybrid transformative mediation technique (HTMT). This study has the potential to create positive social change by reducing the number of litigations, giving relief to the overburdened justice system, and thus decreasing the use of limited courts resources.

Performance/dependability evaluation via modeling results in fast and economic system development. Traditionally, simulations have been used to evaluate realistic systems but do not yield exact results. Analytic solution methods can yield exact results, but can suffer from the state-space explosion problem. A reduced base model construction technique for stochastic activity networks, which exploits the net structure to generate a considerably reduced state-space for systems with high degree of replication, has been developed. An implementation of this technique shows that it can be successfully used for efficiently evaluating realistic systems, previously considered unsolvable by traditional stochastic Petri net methods.

In the past, a lot of manpower is needed so that the cost is expensive for the extraction of the foreground object, especially in the edge portion. If you want to process the hair or complex edge area perfectly, it will have a considerable difficulty. This issue had been discussed in detail in the paper titled “A Closed-Form Solution to Natural Image Matting”, Levin 2008 [1]. As for this technical report, it is the implementation of the Levin’s paper. We explore techniques of the paper to design an operating software that it can be able to perform video matting simply and conveniently. In the paper of “A Closed-Form Solution to Natural Image Matting”, the method based on Closed-Form Matting framework is used to estimate α value for each pixel, and then it is extended to video matting. In the experiment, it had been proved that the method can accurately remove foreground objects effectively. However, if you not only want to achieve efficiency but also to show the effect of the technique perfectly, to have a good operating tool is inevitable. As our results show, the system that technical report implemented not only can be used on different images, but also it can accurately estimate the alpha matte of the frames of the video. Moreover, the synthesized images or videos can reach a certain quality.

The proposed technique utilizes cumulative density function (CDF) based method to track the sinusoidal jitter, and applies post processing to enhance the process variation tolerance. We use FPGA to achieve the designed circuit, and employ an arbitrary waveform generator to inject jittery signal. Compared with the commercial automatic test equipment, the error ratio of jitter frequency is within 0.1%. When the jitter operates in lower frequency, the error ratio of jitter amplitude is less than 5%.

The microstrip electromagnetic elements with delay lines possessing wide adjustable reflection phase range are utilized to improve the design flexibility of the electromagnetic surfaces. The characteristics of the adopted electromagnetic element are analyzed while a linear and smooth reflection phase response covering about 600∘is obtained by adjusting the length of the delay lines attached on the element. Based on the theory of the reflectarray, the phase distribution of elements can be acquired and the required reflection phase shift can be fulfilled by changing the physical delay lines there by achieving the beam-forming capability. An offset-fed electromagnetic surface with area of 50×50 square centimeter and was implemented. The beamforming capability of the electromagnetic surfaces has been verified by theory and measurements. According to the design considerations discussed in this thesis, the gain of the electromagnetic surface can be predicted and has satisfactory agreement with the measured results. Finally, the designed electromagnetic surfaces are placed at appropriate location to enhance the receiving signal quality of non-light-of-sight communication. Measurements of the direction of the reflected beam correlate well with theoretical expectation and the error vector magnitude is about 6.4 percent. The other topic of this thesis is presenting an electronically tunable element using varactor diodes. The reflection phase responses of the element are acquired both from the equivalent-circuit model and full-wave electromagnetic simulator. The two simulated results show satisfactory agreement with the measurement. The designed electromagnetically tunable element with over 220∘of phase agility at center frequency 10 GHz.

Falling accidents become one of the major causes of injuries for the elderly. Therefore, how to detect and get appropriate rapid first-aid medical care is very important when elderly falling accidents occurred. There have been already various kinds of mobility aids provided to the elderly for their assistance needs in daily moving. For the purpose of convenience and portability, most of the elderly will choose a cane to assist their daily moving. This paper proposes an acceleration detection device added to an elderly cane. This device is implemented using Android embedded technology. A falling model is setup through learning and summarizing the moving acceleration curves in the different behaviors, like normal walking, cane throws, cane slips, and various kinds of falling, and so on, of using a cane. It can be further applied to detect accidental fallings and then automatically raise an alarm upon these emergency situations. Therefore, the proposed system could successfully enhance more helpful safety functions to an elderly cane.

A DPCA SAR scheme can acquire more than one azimuth sampling during one pulse repeated period. Therefore, the required Pulse Repetition Frequency (PRF) can be greatly decreased while enabling a wider imaging swath. A Multi-Channel Reconstruction Algorithm (MCRA) is applied to recover the uniformity of non-uniform sampling signal resulted from the varieties of the PRF. We adopt a three-channel DPCA SAR system for experiments and several simulations are performed to verify the proposed reconstruction algorithm. The images performance of the proposed method has been compared with conventional SAR. The experimental results show the advances of the SIMO-based SAR with wider swath under the same azimuth resolution.

If its core technology is cracked, its developer will face a great loss. Therefore, software protection becomes very important. With the increasing publication of software in the form of sharing in the network, the techniques of software protection and data encryption loom more and more prominent. For that reason, besides legal restrictions, software developers always put the focus of their concerns on how to intensify the protection of their own software, rather than how to stop others’ illegal copying. The current protection techniques can be classified into two categories: hardware and software encryptions. The former is safer but costly and inflexible while the latter is economic and convenient. Consequently, software shell encryption becomes the current mainstream of packing techniques. This study aims to beef up the difficulty in cracking software by even tighter combination between the protection program and original function program of the software. The intensified difficulty is going to disable anyone from cracking software unless the cracker has ability to rebuild the software. For this purpose, the study looks into characteristics of the unpacking techniques that are currently prevalent, and hereby selects the tested packing programs together with corresponding software in order to analyze and find out the more reasonable methods by which protection programs are uneasy to be cracked. On the basis of extensive acknowledgement that traditional packing software are not strong in their protection ability, this study designs a kind of simple packing tool by adopting a modular structure. In the light of the particularities of resources block in the Portable Executable files, the study analyzes the directory and data of resources respectively. At the same time, in order to improve safety, the study transforms the original input table if necessary, and designs a corresponding structure. Starting from the angle of Anti bugging technique, this study deeply analyzes the means to protect programs from being cracked as more reasonable, which provides corresponding counter-measures adopted in following program design. In the end, this study analyzes the existing problems of the packing tool, and suggests some main means to improve the current safety of applied software.

ATE measurement is different from the measurement of general laboratory instruments. In the laboratory, several different instruments need to be pieced together to measure a single function. The ATE can quickly and consistently integrate digital, analog and RF signals through the Load Board to perform all functional measurements of all the different blocks in the device at one time. With the excellent MSE (Multi-Site Efficiency) feature of the ATE, the cost of the test is greatly reduced. ADVANTEST V93000 Port Scale RF tester were used to automatic testing mass production and classification and have shown good testing performance for all NB-IoT RF specifications including Power, EVM, Gain, Noise Figure, I/Q Mismatch and IIP3. The physiological parameters are usually transmitted by using the infrared LED or RF in the biotechnology system. In this thesis, we transmit the records by using analog communication technique.  Besides mixers for modulation needed, we utilize a PLL to make carrier more stable in transmitter. On the other hand, we adopt 6th stage Gm-C BPF for channel selector and 2nd stage active RC LPF for demodulation in receiver. The PLL in receiver is to lock shifted phase in transmission path.  The specifications of our designed system are: 1. Modulation method: Amplitude Modulation, 2. Operation frequency: 20MHz ~100MHz 3. Biosignal amplitude: 1~10 mV. At last, we design the system on TSMC0.35um 2P4M fabrication. If the transmitter and receiver chips would be realized successfully, the system must provide much contribution to mankind health.

In general, the manipulation principle for delay analysis in Taiwan is to accumulate the impacted days of delay events on critical path, and then make compensation or fine for such measured delay days. Many delay analysis techniques are developed overseas for assisting in delay analysis, but these techniques are complicated in methodology and laborious in calculation. To run such analysis techniques requires skilled schedule analysis and consumes much calculation time. To cope with the complicated analyses, there is a requirement for developing a delay analysis support system with the mechanism of speedy, objective and accurate calculation model in liability distribution. The developed system will benefit in saving calculation time and in reducing calculation processes. First, this study analyzed the But-for delay analysis technique to check its logic and integrity in resolving various delay events. After incorporating a mechanism for apportioning excusable-noncompensable delays, this study proposed a modified backward-based but-for analysis model. Based on the analysis results via IDEFØ and DFD techniques, this study generated system flow and information flow for proposed system. Furthermore, this study used the Visual Basic for Application (VBA) program in Microsoft Project to develop a prototype for proposed system. Through a modified real case, the developed system can quickly calculate project total delay days and accurately responsible days for contract parties. Calculation results can be a basis for further dispute resolution.

By develop new coding method and use proper quantization factor, we can meet the trade off between quality of multimedia content and the capacity of bandwidth. For JPEG and MPEG , we always compress image by block based discrete cosine transform (BDCT). However, when we reconstruct a low bit rate image, we will see the noticeable blocking artifacts . Therefore if we do post- processing in reconstructed image, we will improve the quality of human visual. The capability of multi-scale and multi-resolution of wavelet ensures that we can use the forward wavelet transform to decompose an original image into smooth and detailed subimages in different multi-resolution levels, and restore specific subimages by using the backward wavelet transform to separate defects from regular noise model. In this research we use over-complete wavelet to separate the blocking noise and the origin image . By the character of over-complete wavelet , we can judge the blocking area, and use de-noise algorithm to eliminate the blocking effect.We also implement the hardware design by FPGA ,and test the real image.

The recovery will affect the degradation of pMOSFETs and consequently the estimated lifetime of the devices. The on-the-fly technique is developed to reduce the effect of recovery. Therefore, more objective and accurate value of the degradation can be obtained with the on-the-fly technique. The purpose of the study is to carry out on-the-fly technique by using the Agilent 4156C without extra equipment and creating a program to measure and to analyze the recovery effect during and after stress. The program is written based on the built-in IBASIC of Agilent 4156C and then it is used to measure NBTI degradation. The measured data is then compared with the value measured with traditional measurement. The results reveal that the degradation value obtained by the program is larger and closer to real degradation. The program also helps us to find bigger effect of recovery after stress, which is also considered more realistic. Above all, the on-the-fly technique developed using IBASIC breaks the original constraint in Agilent 4156C. Therefore this technique is not only providing more realistic measurement but also reducing the cost for buying new instrument in laboratory and enhancing the efficiency of use original Agilent 4156C.

The control of state variables uses three phase mathematical transformation model to decouple abc states into q-axis and d-axis variables in synchronous rotating frame for field oriented control (FOC). Following that, we implement the algorithms of FOC, space vector pulse-width modulation (SVPWM), and speed control using the digital signal processor (DSP). Regarding to the influence of controller parameters on dynamic response of the motor speed, this thesis proposes the speed control of PMSM using self-tuning fuzzy technique. By the self-tuning technique, the on-line fuzzy logic controller (FLC) output can give better speed response under the load disturbances or variable speed commands. Testing results show the proposed control strategy is more robust than the traditional proportional-integral control.

We can explore the relationships between color temperature and comfort range by analyzing the color temperature in physiological and psychological attributes. Then, apply it to different circumstances and purposes. We can see lots of LED applications for color of lighting today. The main goal in the thesis is to research on the method of LED color mixing. Through the given single LED package specifications, including luminous flux and chromaticity coordinate, then develop an algorithm of different specifications for LED color mixing. Afterwards, put the mixing number respectively into calculation to get the mixed chromaticity coordinate. Then use the formula of chromaticity coordinate transforming into color temperature to get the final mixing color temperature. Also, we can get the respective mixing number by putting the mixing parameters into algorithm of two and three specifications for LED color mixing. It is very helpful for LED applications of color temperature in solid-state lighting. In this essay, use the experiments of LED street lighting arrays and FRED optical simulation software respectively to verify the algorithm for LED color mixing. About the experiments of LED street lighting arrays, this part is to mix into low color temperature(3000K~4000K) and middle color temperature(4000K~5000K)by mixing numbers of 88,90,112,135.It is Measured by the Luminous Intensity Distribution Instrument assigned from CNS15233 of Bureau of Energy, Ministry of Economic Affairs. It turns out two trends: the more the mixing number is, the more the inaccuracy is. And, the higher the mixing color temperature is, the smaller the inaccuracy is. Besides, both of the inaccuracies are below the standard of 4%. Through the experiment and simulation, we can get the conclusion that LED of low color temperature (P2N) arranged in the middle resulted in smaller inaccuracy. In the end, combine the algorithm for LED color mixing and PWM dimmer controlling to propose a new method of LED color mixing.

We use Field Programmable Analog Array (FPAA) to implement the ΔΣ modulator and utilize DC voltage as the test stimulus. The integrator leakage testing method is base on integrator charging/discharging; it is an iterative three-phase approach. In phase I, the integrator is charged with a constant DC input to reach a stable, leakage-dependent voltage level. In phase II, the integrator is gradually discharged. The time of discharging is recorded and used to derive the integrator leakage. In phase III, it is determined whether a new iteration can be executed to further enhance the test accuracy. The field programmable analog array device is based on the switched capacitor technology. It is composed of four configurable analog blocks, seven IO cells, a clock generator, and configuration interface. The basic configurable analog block is composed of two operational amplifiers, a comparator and eight capacitor arrays. Circuits are realized through manipulation of switches between various circuit components inside the configurable analog block. Using field programmable analog array to design circuit will save us a lot of time and money. We use the field programmable analog array to design a ΔΣ modulator with tunable integrator leakage and utilize DAQ to generate the test signal and acquire the output signal from FPAA. According to the experimental result, we improve the test method to achieve better accuracy --- the maximum error is reduced from 1.89% to 1.17%.

博士<br>國立臺灣大學<br>電子工程學研究所<br>100<br>Because of the robustness of the Particle Filter (PF) in nonlinear/non-Gaussian applications, the PF algorithm is now very widespread and has a significant impact in virtually all areas of signal and image processing concerned with Bayesian dynamical models. The PF uses samples (particles) and associated weights to represent the probability density function (PDF) of the state. The estimation of the state we are interested can be obtained with the PDF predicted by the PF. Due to wide application of PF, it is important to make the PF algorithm feasible for practical systems. In other words, the PF algorithm should be efficient in hardware/software implementation. In this dissertation, a novel PF algorithm, multi-prediction PF (MP-PF), is proposed. The proposed MP-PF can significantly reduce the memory requirement without loss of estimation accuracy. Besides, the parallel implementation technique is a popular approach to reduce the execution time. Most operations of the PF algorithm are independent and can be executed in parallel. However, the sequential operations of PFs still limit the improvement from parallel implementation. In general, the complexity of the sequential task is proportional to the particle number. The proposed MP-PF can reduce the particle number, as well as the complexity of the sequential task. To verify the benefit of the proposed MP-PFs, we implement the proposed MP-PF on Nvidia multi-core GPUs, which has high efficiency to process many parallel local computations. For the classic BOT experiments, the maximum improvements of the proposed MP-PF are 25.1 times and 15.3 times faster than the SIR-PF with 10,000 and 20,000 particles respectively. In addition to the development on the basic PF algorithm, this dissertation also applies the PF algorithm into the positioning system. [27] reduces the particle prediction uncertainty by using the map information, so the PF can use fewer particles. However, the strong constraints reduce the flexibility of propagation model which we need to compensate the unawareness of target&apos;&apos;s true behavior of motion. Rather than using a simple/constrained particle transition model, this dissertation proposes a location estimation framework which integrates location constraints into particle filter, including invalid regions, walls, and turning regions for adjusting the motion model. In the proposed location-constrained PF (LC-PF), the combination of location-constrained weight updating and constrained propagation makes large accuracy improvement. Comparing with the basic PF, the LC-PF can give the error reduction around 68%.

The major advantage of OFDM is the ability to enhance the basic signal using approaches that can overcome channel impairments. In digital communication, binary information is converted by means of a modulator into a continuous-time signal which is sent over the transmission channel. A digital receiver is to extract the information sequence from a discrete signal obtained after sampling and quantizing the distorted signal presented to the demodulator. At the receiver, accurate timing recovery is critical to obtained performance close to that of the optimal receiver. Timing in a data receiver must be synchronized to the symbols of the incoming data signals. This study considers a non-synchronized sampling scheme. The received signal is performed by a fixed sampling clock; the samples are not synchronized to the incoming data symbols. Timing adjustment is done after sampling using interpolation. Farrow structure has been commonly used to efficiently implement the Lagrange interpolation for timing adjustment. This thesis presents the efficient implementation of the Farrow structure for cubic and quintic interpolations. Results show that the developed cubic Farrow structure achieves a hardware cost reduction by 23% from the conventional one. The design concept can be readily extended to the Farrow structures for higher order interpolations.

For real-time design and hardware cost, a simple and efficient de-interlacing technique is necessary. This paper presents a novel edge-preserving image restoring technique for interlaced video. We utilize a motion-degree detector to determine motion direction of block between the adjacent images and a scene-change detector to estimate if the main body of block moves wildly. According to detection results, we choose temporal interpolation or spatial interpolation method to restore the missing pixels. Experiment results show that the data analysis and visual effects are better than other algorithm before. Our technique is implemented with VLSI architecture by using Verilog HDL. The system is designed with pipeline architectures to achieve better performance. We used SYNOPSYS Design Vision to synthesize the design with TSMC 0.13μm cell library. Synthesis results show that our design contains 13.3K gate counts. It operates with a clock period of 5 ns and operates at a clock rate of 200 MHz.

By all means, the wireless Bluetooth headset will be the most basic component for mobile phone. In the cause of the condition that to reaching small size, low power consumption and high audio quality output. So we try to design and implement a small dimension radio frequency module of structure on 4 layer FR4 that conform to Bluetooth Specification. The module include an antenna, radio frequency front end circuit, flash memory, RF transceiver. And to collocate the same structure of low consumption charge circuit and switching regulator circuit, and a high sensitivity speaker and microphone to compose a wireless Bluetooth headset. Final we complete the characteristic provided with Small size(52×20×7mm), Low power consumption(Work mode:45mA, Standby mode:2mA), and High sensitivity audio quality output(110.8dB/1KHz). In last couple decades, Taiwan''s domestic industry has changed from labor-intensive to technology-intensive type, industry become highly rely on precision and automated equipment in order to increase product''s quality and to retain global competition. Therefore, more and more local enterprises took advantage of TPM''s facility management strategy to pursue "zero breakdowns, zero accidents, and zero defects" manufacturing environment. A previous investigation on implementation of TPM in Taiwan indicates that many domestic companies faced difficulty in designing the proper employee training programs for TPM implementation. This research analyzes IE theory and technique that applied to eight major TPM activities. Analyses include what IE theory and technique are applied to different stages of TPM implementation, and what required knowledge should different levels of personnel possess to assure a successful TPM implementation. The results of this study specify possible TPM training material, schedule for training, and to whom the training may concern; it will be a good reference for establishing a proper TPM training program. The result of this research also expects to bring in interests and resources from academic institutes to assist enterprises in TPM implementation, and therefore to enhance domestic industry’s global competition.

In this thesis, we estimated the positions of the feature points or the intrinsic position and orientation of camera by feature points in the image. Located algorithm may only used the known feature points position to find the camera position if used in known environment. If it was used in the unknown environment, it may treat the positions of feature points and the intrinsic position of camera as unknown. Furthermore, it could be solved by using the technique of simultaneous localization and mapping. In this thesis, we executed the system simulation on the situation of different feature points distributed in the space first. Finally, we implement it on two dimensional robot vehicle.

The present study on how to reduce the bandwidth that is the proportion of such software on image transmission occupied, while presenting the image into smaller blocks and be distinct than the latter point, the image changes only dissimilarity do block transfer, hoping to enhance the occupancy rate decrease in the use of bandwidth and a more smooth image quality.

In order to catch up the trend, we apply mechanical vision system to variety of significant industrial automation broadly. The mechanical vision system can help us detect the appearance of the products, defection of the package. Moreover, the circuit board was divided into several areas, and distinguish the components whether they are welded accurately or not. Through the system, we can effectively lower the error rate of the function, and enhance the quality of products. The edge detection method based on searching is usually expressed by first derivative, such as Prewitt, Roberts, and so on. Furthermore, zero-crossing method is useful for us to find out the zero-crossing points, then position edges. According to characteristics of detecting methods, we apply suitable method to corresponding images, and carry out edge detection. FH, the Omron image processing system, is the main software in the study. It’s a original strength and innovative inspection technique. Matching with different lens and light source regulators, and it can be applied more widely. The application cases are as follow: identifying the inner and outer labels of the bottle caps, distinguishing size of the relay riveting spring and finding out stain on the surface of instant noodles. To find out the best lens and brightness in the testing process, then the original figure was present at its best, which was deal with various types of image processing, such as expansion, color filtering, background elimination, pre-measurement processing, shape searching, etc. After setting image processing procedures, we can use image statically identification to find out the defective product.

A lot of non-distorted images have compressed and study into the static image. So, the distorted dynamic image technology (MPEG) can be studied and improved the non-distorted compression technology.   Non-distorted compression is utilized the encoding statistics or looking for the table to finish the purpose to compressing. But it is insufficient places to the compression on video-information. The continuous video-information is often similar. So, the Motion Estimation is used in MPEG to calculate the picture and moving the direction. Transmitting Motion Vector and replacing the original image can just accomplish the high compression ratio.   In this research, three primary colors of our RGB are operated for the data control. Replacing the movements are generally on the color space of YCrCb. The original data can be carried on Motion Estimation, code and conveyed. And then, using the software can decode the image to reduce the original image. Not only require that totally unanimous with the original information, but also need to reduce the request which transmits the data even more.

碩士<br>國立成功大學<br>電機工程學系碩博士班<br>92<br>With the progress of biotelemetry technique, the doctors and nurses or the researcher, can continuously monitor and record the physiological parameters in the activities of the patients who are not interfered in their daily life. The physiological parameters are always transmitted by using the infrared LED or RF in the biotelemetry system. In this paper, we transmit the records by using analog communication technique. In order to increase the system stability, we make the demodulator in receiver more precise by using phase looked loop technique to fix the carrier at some frequency. The specifications of our designed system are:1.Modulation method: Amplitude Modulation, 2.Operation frequency:10MHz ~ 110MHz ,depending on input reference frequency, 3.Biosignal amplitude:1~10 mV. At last, we design the biotelemetry system chip by using TSMC 0.35mm. If the transmitter and receiver can be realized successfully, the system must provide lots of contribution to people health.
