Enhancing the effectiveness of green development of the agricultural trade economy with green finance is a practical need to promote the healthy development of agricultural trade. This manuscript empirically analyzes the impact of green finance on China’s agricultural products import and export trade by using provincial-level panel data from 30 Chinese provinces from 2001–2019. The findings show that: (1) Green finance positively impacts China’s agricultural import and export trade at the 1% significant level, expanding the scale of agricultural imports and exports. This paper assesses the effect of protectionist trade policies on the agricultural productivity of WAEMU countries from 1995 to 2016. A multiple linear regression model with panel data was used in this study.
The estimations results indicate that the protectionist trade policy captured by State subsidy to agriculture and tax on the import of goods have a positive effect on agricultural productivity of WAEMU countries. In addition, the study reveals that sufficient availability of farm machinery and fertile soil would be of particular importance to the development of agricultural sector.&

Abstract:
In this paper, we assess the economy-wide impact of Climate Change (CC) on agriculture and food security in 20 Latin American and the Caribbean (LAC) countries. Specifically, we focus on the following three channels through which CC may affect agricultural and non-agricultural production: (i) agricultural yields; (ii) labor productivity in agriculture, and; (iii) economy-wide labor productivity. We implement the analysis using the Integrated Economic-Environmental Model (IEEM) and databases for 20 LAC available through the OPEN IEEM Platform. Our analysis identifies those countries most affect

Abstract:
Investment in land administration projects is often considered key for agricultural productivity and rural development. The evidence on such interventions is however remarkably mixed. This paper discusses a number of challenges and derives related guidelines for the impact evaluation of land administration programs. We focus on four types of challenges: 1) a conceptual challenge related to the need to unbundle property rights and to establish the plausible causal chain for land administration interventions; 2) the existence of other binding constraints on productivity, implying the need to con

Abstract:
Since April 2016, The European Union and the Oxfam Pro-Resilience Action Project in Kebbi and Adamawa States, Nigeria, have supported poor smallholder rural farmers to improve their agricultural productivity. The project has a specific focus on increasing crop yields per hectare for better land usage, as well as ensuring farmers possess the skills they need to maintain good agricultural practices, such as inputs utilization and climate mitigation strategies, as well as an information-sharing system on weather and market prices. The project uses a Farmer Field School model that continues to ser

Abstract:
Farmers awarded with lands under a collective-Certificate of Land Ownership Awards (CCLOA) have been experiencing problems arising from the collective arrangement (e.g., boundary issues and disputes with other collective members). These issues discourage many farmers from making long-term investment decisions on their land, thereby resulting in lower productivity. With a strong directive from President Rodrigo Duterte, the Department of Agrarian Reform is currently committed to ensure the swift implementation of the Parcelization program, which aims to subdivide collectively-owned CLOAs, whose

This paper is part of the project 'Ex-post Evaluation of the IDB Agricultural Technology Uptake Programs.' This paper evaluates the impact of agricultural extension services in the Dominican Republic and analyzes the direct impact of the Program for Technological Support in the Agricultural Sector (PATCA). The analysis relies on a unique dataset gathered by PATCA's executing unit in 2008 and the survey included 1,572 farmers operating in crop growing, breeding or milk production. Using a propensity score matching technique, the authors found that the technologies financed through PATCA effecti

Abstract:
This study combines three rounds of surveys with remote sensing to measure long-term impacts of a randomized irrigation program in the Dominican Republic. Specifically, Landsat 7 and Landsat 8 satellite images are used to measure the causal effects of the program on agricultural productivity, measured through vegetation indices (NDVI and OSAVI). To this end, 377 plots were analyzed (129 treated and 248 controls) for the period from 2011 to 2019. Following a Differencein-Differences (DD) and Event study methodology, the results confirmed that program beneficiaries have higher vegetation indices

Abstract:
This study assesses the interaction between climate change and agricultural trade policies. We distinguish between two dimensions of agricultural trade policy: market insulation and subsidy levels. Building on the previous work of Tsigas, Frisvold and Kuhn (1997) we find that, in the presence of current levels of agricultural subsidies, increased price transmission --as called for under the Uruguay Round Agreement on Agriculture-- reduces global welfare in the wake of climate change. This is due to the positive correlation between productivity changes and current levels of agricultural support
