Dear Editor: I read your publication ethics issue on “bogus impact factors” with great interest (1). I would like to initiate a new trend in manipulating the citation counts. There are several ethical approaches to increase the number of citations for a published paper (2). However, it is apparent that some manipulation of the number of citations is occurring (3, 4). Self - citations, “those in which the authors cite their own works” account for a significant portion of all citations (5). The systematic review assessed evidence on the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children and adolescents to inform a planned update of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) guidelines. Data sources. We searched PubMed®, Embase®, PsycINFO®, ERIC, clinicaltrials.gov, and prior reviews for primary studies published since 1980. The report includes studies published to June 15, 2023. Review methods. The review followed a detailed protocol and was supported by a Technical Expert Panel. Citation screening was facilitated by machi

Abstract:
Objectives. To review the evidence from the past 10 years on the effectiveness of structured protocols for the handoff between clinicians of responsibility for a patient’s care on clinical safety outcomes. Methods. We searched PubMed, EMBASE, PSNet, CINAHL, and a narrowly focused search for unpublished reports from January 2013 to June/July 2024 for systematic reviews and primary studies of structured protocols for handoffs within the same inpatient unit (i.e., not transferring to a different level of care or a different institution) that reported patient clinical outcomes, such as medical err

Abstract:
Objective. To assess the comparative benefits and harms across three airway management approaches (bag valve mask [BVM], supraglottic airway [SGA], and endotracheal intubation [ETI]) by emergency medical services in the prehospital setting, and how the benefits and harms differ based on patient characteristics, techniques, and devices. Data sources. We searched electronic citation databases (Ovid® MEDLINE®, CINAHL®, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, and Scopus®) from 1990 to September 2020 and reference lists, and posted a Federal

Abstract:
Objectives. To summarize recent relevant literature on patient safety practices (PSPs) focused on engaging family caregivers with structured communication during care transitions and assess the effectiveness of these PSPs to improve safety during care transitions. This review provides information for clinicians, health system leaders, and policymakers to better inform approaches to engaging family caregivers with structured communication to improve safety during care transitions. Objectives. To review the evidence published after the previous Making Healthcare Safer (MHS) report on the effectiveness of implementing patient monitoring systems that scan patient data for signs of clinical deterioration to alert a clinician of a potential adverse condition. Methods. We searched PubMed and the Cochrane library for systematic reviews and primary studies, published from January 2018 to April 2024, of patient monitoring systems reporting the activation of a rapid response system (RRS), incidence of cardiorespiratory arrest, hospital mortality, transition to higher level of car

Abstract:
There is much to learn from the recent New Zealand and Japan earthquakes. These earthquakes produced differing levels of liquefaction-induced ground movements that damaged buildings, bridges, and buried utilities. Along with the often spectacular observations of infrastructure damage, there were many cases where well-built facilities located in areas of liquefaction-induced ground failure were not damaged. Researchers are working on characterizing and learning from these observations of both poor and good performance. The “Liquefaction-Induced Ground Movements Effects” workshop provided an opp
