Appena nominato, il nuovo vescovo della diocesi di Győr, György Draskovich, aveva convocato il sinodo per l’estate dell’anno 1579, nella città di Szombathely. Nel primo giorno del sinodo, su invito del nuovo vescovo, il gesuita croato Marcus Pitačić pronunciò un discorso che trattava dei criteri per divenire prete, della morale che la comunità esigeva da parte del clero e dell’istituzione del celibato, attaccando e confutando le relative dottrine dei protestanti. La reazione al discorso di Pitačić da parte dei protestanti non arrivò subito ma si fece aspettare per un decennio e mezzo. Nel 1585 uscì il libro di Péter Beregszászi, Apologia pro ecclesiis reformatis, actis impiis Synodi Sabariensis opposita, che contiene sia l’Oratio di Pitačić sia la risposta di Beregszászi, in cui egli smentisce punto per punto le asserzioni del gesuita. Il fatto che, due anni dopo, venne pubblicato a Basel il volume De controversiis religionis hoc seculo motis adversaria quaedam scripta, in quibus utriusque partis dissidentium argumenta, ad Scripturae divinae canonem explorantur et Iesuitis potissimum respondetur, mostra l’importanza dei due testi dell’Apologia che, assieme ad alcuni libelli apparsi negli anni ’80, viene interamente riproposta nel detto volume. A seguito della breve presentazione riassuntiva della vita di Pitačić, l’articolo offre un quadro sintetico della sua controversia con Beregszászi, ricca di argomentazioni e di mezzi retorico-linguistici che servivano al predicatore protestante per rendere ridicoli i gesuiti e contestare l’autenticità delle parole del suo avversario.

Questo articolo si pone in continuità nell'ambito di un progetto di studio della conciliazione famiglia-lavoro che l'autrice cura da anni con l'intento di stimolare l'adozione di politiche di flessibilità dell'orario e dell'organizzazione del lavoro e di estensione dei servizi educativi e sociali. L'articolo analizza alcuni dati ISTAT ed alcuni dati europei tratti da EUROSTAT e da un'indagine ad hoc condotta da Eu-ropean Foundation for the improvement of Living and Working conditions duran-te il lockdown. Da un lato, il digital divide delle famiglie, delle imprese e della scuo-la italiana ha reso alquanto difficoltoso lo smart working e la didattica a distanza caricando sui genitori anche l'istruzione scolastica dei figli. Dall'altro lato, poter lavorare in smart working in modo efficiente ha messo in luce un incremento di produttività e un miglioramento della conciliazione famiglia-lavoro soprattutto per le donne. Opportuni interventi del Governo e delle imprese a tale riguardo possono condurre a netti miglioramenti nell'organizzazione flessibile del lavoro in armonia con gli impegni familiari.

Primo ius vetus seu fontes iuris canonici et quidem a Christo Domino usque ad Codicem Iuris Canonici Pio-Benedictini seu de 1917 anni breviter praesentantur. Primis Ecclesiae temporibus episcopi in suo territorio poenas paenitentiales abbreviabant in bonum animarum et Ecclesiae. Non constat, hunc usum condonandi paenitentiam canonicam veram condonationem etiam poenae debitae pro peccato coram Deo fuisse. A saeculo VII redemptiones ut vocabantur, et romanae peregrinationes vigere incipiunt. Redemptiones supplebant ex dispositione confessarii paenitentias canonicas. La letteratura sull'adozione da non molti anni ha cominciato a focalizzare l'attenzione sul tema dei fallimenti adottivi, ma ancora pochi sono i contributi che si sono occupati di approfondire le situazioni di crisi, cioè quei casi in cui sono presenti rilevanti problematicità psicologiche e relazionali all'interno della famiglia adottiva, accompagnate da molte difficoltà nel farvi fronte. Il presente lavoro prende in esame, mediante un questionario costruito ad hoc, l'esperienza vissuta da 44 madri adottive che stanno affrontando una crisi ed esplora la loro percezione rispetto alle difficoltà emotive e comportamentali dei figli, alla relazione di coppia e alla percezione del supporto ricevuto dai servizi e da altri genitori adottivi. I risultati evidenziano che le madri adottive percepiscono un alto livello di difficoltà emotive e comportamentali nei propri figli, livelli medio-alti di soddisfazione per quanto riguarda la relazione con il partner, un alto livello di supporto ricevuto da altri genitori adottivi e un basso livello di soddisfazione per il supporto ricevuto da parte degli operatori dei servizi. I risultati ottenuti offrono alcune riflessioni per la progettazione di interventi specifici di sostegno e di accompagnamento per le famiglie adottive, così da prevenire in modo sempre più efficace le situazioni di maggiore rischio.

culture, and these interrelated aspects of life created a fertile environment for musical
production. A rich manuscript tradition has facilitated numerous studies of Aquitanian
sacred music, but to date most previous research has focused on one particular facet of
the repertoire, often in isolation from its cultural context. This study seeks to view
Aquitanian musical culture through several intersecting sacred and secular concerns and
to relate the various musical traditions to the region's broader societal forces. Saint-Martial
in Limoges and Toulouse, two musical and cultural centers, illustrate the wider
cultural context in Aquitaine, and a survey of select manuscripts shows the development
of a musical tradition. An examination of three disparate pieces shows that the repertoire

Like the previous chapter, this one examines 1878–90 but with a different thematic focus. Attending to national and regional developments, it reveals how regional struggles for power were shaped by the success of right-wing parties and individuals who rallied new recruits, and voters, by conflating the socialist, liberal, and Jewish “threats.” The first section documents the relative weakness of left liberalism and National Liberalism in Saxony. It also examines the social profile of the Saxon Landtag to suggest why Conservatives mustered a strong following in an urbanized, industrialized state and its parliament. The next section begins by examining the condition of Jews living in Saxony, then documents the close ties between Conservatives and radical antisemites, nationally and locally. The antisemitic leaders within Saxon Conservatism and the “circus-like” agitation they condoned in the 1880s suggest that anti-liberalism and antisemitism were potent political weapons before Bismarck’s fall from power in 1890.

This chapter explores the Don Newcombe's lawsuit against Coors Brewing Company Newcombe played in the Negro baseball leagues until 1949, when the Brooklyn Dodgers signed him after Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in 1947. He had a stellar career, winning the Most Valuable Player award, the Cy Young Award, and the Rookie of the Year award. However, his career in Major League Baseball was cut short in 1960, in part because of a continuing battle with alcohol. Eventually, Newcombe acknowledged his problem, and, as a recovering alcoholic, he served as a spokesman for the National Institute on Drug and Alcohol Abuse. As an anti-alcohol advocate, Newcombe was shocked when he discovered an advertisement for Killian's Irish Red Beer (a brand produced by Coors Brewing) that featured a drawing of an old-time baseball game in which the pitcher was a recognizable version of Newcombe. He sued Coors for a violation of his right of publicity but lost in the federal district court. Despite that decision, the Ninth Circuit of the U.S. Court of Appeals agreed with Newcombe and overturned the lower court, establishing that celebrity athletes had the right to choose how their image was used in advertising and allowing them to disassociate themselves from products they found distasteful.

This chapter looks at efforts to contain and control both the presentation and the reception of American images in the Soviet Union. A striking outcome of these efforts was the anti-American campaign, a little-discussed element of the larger anti-cosmopolitanism campaign. The Soviet anti-Americanism of the early Cold War differs from contemporary anti-Americanism in the sense that it was a campaign orchestrated by the ruling party of a state. The focus here is on how the Communist Party of the Soviet Union interfered in all stages of the creative process, dictating the shape plays, films, circus skits, and literature should take. This chapter also details how, with the help of American fellow travelers and “progressive” American authors, the Soviet authorities actually crafted the image of a “second America,” which next to the decadent, capitalist America was used to prove that socialism was indeed the more superior way of life.

Chapter 6 focuses on the mystical atmosphere created by the Holy Alliance (1815) and on the hopes invested on Tsar Alexander I’s allegedly liberal and constitutional venture in the years around the Congress of Vienna. It shows how deeply anti-revolutionary European liberalism was at this time and argues that no matter how conservative, Kapodistrias’s political outlook fell within—and not outside—the spectrum of liberal politics as these were understood in Europe in the post-Napoleonic period. By focusing on the Holy Alliance’s application of a political theology based on the principle of ‘Christian fraternity’, the chapter shows, in addition, how, in this circle of Ionian and Phanariot intellectuals, visions of Pan-Christian utopian ecumenism were combined with the emerging idea of the nation.

He goes on to describe how the degeneration of American justice embodies troubling dimensions of American exceptionalism, including acute wealth inequality, systemic racism, anti-intellectualism, Christian fundamentalism, and chronic human rights abuses. While the word “exceptional” can imply greatness or superiority, American exceptionalism historically referred to how America is “exceptional” in the sense of “unique,” “different,” “unusual,” “extraordinary” or “peculiar.” Ironically, scores of Americans equate “exceptionalism” with their nation’s superiority when it might be its Achilles Heel—a self-destructive vicious circle threatening admirable dimensions of American society.

This chapter focuses on a campus meeting with a controversial Palestinian journalist at which escalating accusations of anti-Semitism and fascism culminated in physical violence. Drawing on the work of Simon Critchley, I frame this event as a ‘tragic’ conflict, in which the claims of entangled past and present sufferings came to be expressed as a passionate refusal of recognition. Attending closely to the linguistic, somatic and emotional dynamics of this meeting, I show how it culminated in the destabilisation of moral distinctions and the collapsing of spatial and temporal boundaries, including a blurring of distinctions between victims and perpetrators, a making-present of past traumas and of seemingly distant forms of violence. Drawing on interview material to deepen my psychosocial analysis, I explore how repressed feelings of shame and aggressive desires, associated with these entanglements, came to be acted out in the violent culmination of this meeting. The concluding section draws this analysis together with the preceding chapter to develop an explanation for the repetitive, circular quality of melodramatic and tragic campus conflicts over time, including the role of public media and the logics of spectatorship in this process.

Chapter 3 argues that Rabindranath Tagore followed W. B. Yeats in becoming a cultural representative while traveling on the circuit, but it also contends that Tagore’s reception as a popular guru ultimately hampered his ability to engage with political issues in the same way that Yeats had on his tour. More specifically, this chapter considers how this specific reception history evolved across Tagore’s first two US lecture tours, which took place in 1912–13 and 1916–17 respectively. While US audiences certainly played a large part in labeling Tagore as a guru, the poet was also a much cannier manipulator of his own reception than his critics have previously acknowledged. Through his public lecturing on his first tour, Tagore cultivated a spiritual image without playing to certain stereotypes that painted the East as a place of staid contemplation. Yet this effort became much more difficult during his next tour, when he began using his lectures on Hinduism as a platform for waging an explicit anti-colonial campaign. At this point, the poet was met with criticism, not only from Euro-Americans, but also from Bengali immigrants living in the US. This chapter therefore comes to the conclusion that Tagore’s success in altering his identity as a spiritual leader came at the expense of his popularity as an international literary figure.

Ruskin’s social criticism, which in Unto This Last (1862) harshly condemned the effects of industrialism by mythologizing medieval age and craftmanship, had a wide influence on social reformers of various political orientations: William Morris, J.A. Hobson, the Art and Crafts Movement, the guildism of Arthur Penty and GHD Cole and the New Age circle, with an impact that went as far as the early decades of the 20th century. While his work as an art critic was promptly received in the Italian cultural debate, his social criticism found little audience, at least until the turn of the centuries, and anyway not in the sphere of economic and sociological culture. In this contribution I intend to examine how the circulation of Ruskin’s social thought in the Italian cultural debate between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries was inscribed in the renewed interest in the social function of art, advocated in the Florentine literary journal Il Marzocco with particular reference to the work of Lev Tolstoy by young intellectuals such as Ugo Ojetti, Angelo Orvieto, and Enrico Corradini, as well as established critics as Angelo Conti. The debate became a watershed moment in Italian culture, involving crucial issues as identity and tradition, artistic heritage and national rebirth. By including in this cultural framework the reception of Ruskin’s social criticism, I intend to highlight its connection with the emergence of the movement for the conservation of the artistic heritage, in which Il Mazocco had a leading role, and to suggest it having mixed political implications. Ruskinian references were channeled in a perspective of national rebirth and regeneration; for a paradoxical but interesting twist, aspects of Ruskin's anti-industrialist and medievalist imagery converged within the new nationalist and nationalist dimension that crossed the Italian (and European) culture of the first decade of the century.

Enoxaparine is a low-molecular-weight-heparin obtained by partial and controlled depolymerization of a heparin of mucosal hog origin. We aimed at the evaluation of the efficacity of a unique injection of Enoxaparine in the prevention of blood clotting in the dialysis circuit in 42 patients with chronic renal failure. Three doses were tested : 0.75, 1.00, 1.25 mg/kg body weight in an open study with a crossing over of the three doses which were randomized according to a latin square design with a one week interval between each dose. None of the dialysis were impaired with clotting of the circuit and never an additional administration of anticoagulant was required in order to achieve the dialysis. Antithrombotic effectiveness was assessed by the quality of arterial and venous lines restitution and by visual inspection of the bubbles trap. No hemorrhagic event occurred. APTT didn’t show residual hypocoagulability at the end of dialysis. Anti-Xa and anti-IIa activities 4 hours after administration were :Anti-Xa and anti-IIa activities exhibited a linear dose level relationship. Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) and evolution are applied to the analysis of turbulent signals. In a first instance, a new trainable delay based artificial neural network is used to analyze Hot Wire Anemometer (HW) signals obtained at different positions within the wake of a circular cylinder with Reynolds number values ranging from 2000 to 8000. Results show that these networks are capable of performing accurate short term predictions of the turbulent signal. In addition, the ANNs can be set in a long term prediction mode resulting in a sort of non linear filter able to extract the features having to do with the larger eddies and coherent structures. In a second stage these networks are used to reconstruct a regularly sampled signal straight from the irregularly sampled one provided by a Laser Doppler Anemometer (LDA). The irregular sampling dynamics of the LDA signals is governed by the arrival of the seeding particles, superimposing the already complex turbulent signal characteristics. To cope with this complexity, an evolutionary based strategy is used to perform an adaptive and continuous online training of the ANNs. This approach permits obtaining a regularly sampled signal not by interpolating the original one, as it is often done, but by modeling it.

The purpose is achieved through a case study method, using a relevant farmhouse and agritourism “Anna dei Sapori” located in the Cilento Bio-District – rich of bio-cultural diversity and homeland of the Mediterranean Diet, Intangible Cultural Heritage by the UNESCO – in Italy. Results show as all corporate processes are managed according to agroecological principles, introducing useful innovations. The goal demonstrates the impact of this thrilling “philosophy”, based on a circular and holistic approach, on environmental, sociocultural, and economic dimensions of sustainability, and the achievement of specific Sustainable Development Goals and targets.

Dynamic stress intensity factor at the crack’s tip are obtained by solving boundary value problems with the methods of conjunction and crack-division technique. The calculating results are plotted so as to show how the frequencies of incident wave, all kinds of physical parameters of two dissimilar piezoelectric materials, applied electric loads and geometric parameters influence on the dynamic stress intensity factor (DSIF). While some of the calculating results are compared with other published documents.

A novel turbine film cooling hole shape has been conceived and designed at NASA Glenn Research Center. This “anti-vortex” design is unique in that it requires only easily machinable round holes, unlike shaped film cooling holes and other advanced concepts. The hole design is intended to counteract the detrimental vorticity associated with standard circular cross-section film cooling holes. This vorticity typically entrains hot freestream gas and is associated with jet separation from the turbine blade surface. The anti-vortex film cooling hole concept has been modeled computationally for a single row of 30 degree angled holes on a flat surface using the 3D Navier-Stokes solver Glenn-HT. A blowing ratio of 1.0 and density ratios of 1.05 and 2.0 are studied. Both film effectiveness and heat transfer coefficient values are computed and compared to standard round hole cases for the same blowing rates. A net heat flux reduction is also determined using both the film effectiveness and heat transfer coefficient values to ascertain the overall effectiveness of the concept. An improvement in film effectiveness of about 0.2 and in net heat flux reduction of about 0.2 is demonstrated for the anti-vortex concept compared to the standard round hole for both blowing ratios. Detailed flow visualization shows that as expected, the design counteracts the detrimental vorticity of the round hole flow, allowing it to remain attached to the surface.

In modern gas turbines, film cooling technology is the most common and efficient way to provide thermal protection for hot parts. To improve film cooling effectiveness, different kinds of shaped holes have been designed, but most of them are complicated and difficult to machine. In this study, four cases of novel film cooling hole design, all based on cylindrical holes, are numerically studied. One is a single, two-stage cylindrical hole, whose downstreamhalf-length has a diameter D while the upstreamhalf-length has a diameter D/2. A second has a cylindrical primary hole with two smaller secondary holes located symmetrically about the centerline of the primary hole and downstream of the primary hole. The three holes of this second design are then combined to make a single shaped hole, constituting a third case, called the tri-circular shaped hole. The entry part of the third case is replaced by a cylindrical hole with a diameter of half the primary hole diameter, making a fourth case called the two-stage tri-circular shaped hole. Film cooling effectiveness and surrounding thermal and flow fields are numerically investigated for all four cases using various blowing ratios. It is shown from the simulation that the two-stage cylindrical hole cannot improve film cooling effectiveness. The primary hole with two secondary holes can enhance film cooling performance by creating anti-kidney vortex pairs, which will weaken jet lift-off, caused by the kidney vortex pairs, from the primary hole. The tri-circular shaped hole will provide better film cooling effectiveness near the hole area, and is not sensitive to blowing ratio. The two-stage structure for tri-circular shaped hole provides better film coverage because it changes the flow structure inside the channel and decreases jet penetration.

Abstract The flow inside cavities between co-rotating compressor discs of aero-engines is driven by buoyancy, with Grashof numbers exceeding 1013. This phenomenon creates a conjugate problem: the Nusselt numbers depend on the radial temperature distribution of the discs, and the disc temperatures depend on the Nusselt numbers. Furthermore, Coriolis forces in the rotating fluid generate cyclonic and anti-cyclonic circulations inside the cavity. Such flows are three-dimensional, unsteady and unstable, and it is a challenge to compute and measure the heat transfer from the discs to the axial throughflow in the compressor. In this paper, Nusselt numbers are experimentally determined from measurements of steady-state temperatures on the surfaces of both discs in a rotating cavity of the Bath Compressor-Cavity Rig. The data are collected over a range of engine-representative parameters and are the first results from a new experimental facility specifically designed to investigate buoyancy-induced flow. The radial distributions of disc temperature were collected under carefully-controlled thermal boundary conditions appropriate for analysis using a Bayesian model combined with the equations for a circular fin. The Owen-Tang buoyancy model has been used to compare predicted radial distributions of disc temperatures and Nusselt numbers with some of the experimentally determined values, taking account of radiation between the interior surfaces of the cavity. The experiments show that the average Nusselt numbers on the disc increase as the buoyancy forces increase. At high rotational speeds the temperature rise in the core, created by compressibility effects in the air, attenuates the heat transfer and there is a critical rotational Reynolds number for which the Nusselt number is a maximum. In the cavity, there is an inner region dominated by forced convection and an outer region dominated by buoyancy-induced flow. The inner region is a mixing region, in which entrained cold throughflow encounters hot flow from the Ekman layers on the discs. Consequently, the Nusselt numbers on the downstream disc in the inner region tend to be higher than those on the upstream disc.
