Abstract:
In ovo feeding is one way to increase poultry productivity by providing additional nutrition during the incubation period and can increase embryo growth. Many implementations of in-ovo feeding techniques have been carried out on various types of poultry, but a summary of the use of in-ovo feeding on various types of poultry has never been reported, therefore this study was conducted. This review article aims to determine the use of in-ovo feeding in various types of poultry. This study was conducted based on literature studies by analyzing secondary data and synthesizing research from various

The poultry industry plays a large role in the Brazilian economy. In fact,Brazil ranks as the world’s leading exporter and second largest producer ofpoultry meat as the result of genetic improvement, animal nutrition, management, and biosecurity. During the development of bird embryos, thenutrients are stored within the egg, but carbohydrate supplementation isunsatisfactory upon hatching. Poor carbohydrate supplementation candamage the embryo development and negatively affect poultry weight. This paper provided a brief account of the need of in ovo feeding technology for efficient incubation and hatching as driven by the current and projected poultry production figures. After substantial laboratory experiments in the early 1980s, in ovo vaccination technology became applicable in the commercial broiler hatcheries. The scientific theories that enabled the use of in ovo vaccination facilitated the process of injecting the various nutrient composition into broiler eggs/embryo (in ovo feeding) considering the injection site and the stage of embryonic development. Recently, α-ketoglutaric acid (AKG) has gained importance as an antioxidant. Its dietary supplementation in animals and humans has proved beneficial. Moreover, an extensive group of studies on in ovo feeding has proved that it produces better day-old chicks and overall performance. Combining the two, we hypothesized that in ovo feeding of AKG could improve the antioxidant status in addition to chick quality and broiler performance. At 17.5 days of incubation, eggs were divided into one of five groups: eggs that received (i) no injection (U-CON), (ii) distilled water (DDW) only (0 AKG), (iii) 0

Glycogen stored in liver and muscles are the main energy source during hatching of poultry. Turkey embryos are very sensitive to perturbations in energy metabolism because they have a wider hatching window than chicken embryos. Mortality of turkey embryos during late-term incubation is high relative to chickens, and many surviving hatchlings have compromised vitality. In ovo feeding (IOF) improves the energy status and gut development of perinatal poultry by supplementing the amnion with nutrients, which is then orally consumed by the embryo prior to hatch. Mortality in a broiler flock will typically range from 4-5% of the population over the course of 6- 7 weeks in the U.S. and 7-8% of the population in Israel. Suboptimal intestinal maturation and functionality are one of the major factors that contribute to early age mortality and hinder flock body weight uniformity. The development of absorptive and secretory functions is orchestrated by differentiation of cells that arise from stem cells. Supplying compounds by in ovo feeding (IOF) during late embryogenesis provides nutrients that may change the dynamics of stem cell differentiation. We hypot
