Abstract:
Within the Catholic Church from around the tenth century onwards, liturgical gloves could be worn on specific occasions by those of the rank of bishop and above. Using a pair of seventeenth-century gloves in the Whitworth as a basis for further exploration, this article explores the meanings ascribed to liturgical gloves and the techniques used to make them. It argues that, within the ceremony of the mass, gloves had a specific role to play in allowing bishops to function performatively in the role of Christ.

Abstract:
Homosexuality and the priesthood. The Gordian knot – for Catholics? This article provides a short overview on the relationship between homosexuality and the Catholic priesthood. The analysis reveals that the phenomenon of homosexuality increasingly divides the Christian world. The understanding of homosexuality requires interdisciplinary and serious analysis. The crucial question for Catholics, which is rather of an ontological than moral nature, concerns the vision of the priest who acts “in the person of Christ” (in persona Christi). The understanding of the essential elements of the conformity of the Catholic priest to Christ seems to be crucial for the correct interpretation of the relationship between homosexuality and the priesthood.

Abstract:
The scholastic systematic viewed the consecration as a consistent sacred action in itself, framed by a complex of prayers. To give a status to these two parts, it coined two distinct formulas: during the consecration the Minister acts in persona Christi, during the prayers he acts in persona Ecclesiæ. Is it correct to continue to counteract the two formulas and to assume such a fragmentation of the Eucharistic prayer as well as the resulting fracture for the ministerial function? A clear answer is offered by patristic mystagogy, always emphasizing the absolute effectiveness of the consecratorial words, the priests were conscious to link them to the epiclesis and to all of the Eucharistic prayer.

Abstract:
Ministers help people to recognize Christ’s face. One of the many ways to do it is preaching the Word of God. This article analyzes preaching functions of ministers in the actual canon law. Bishops are responsible for the ministry of the divine word. They can preach on the whole world. In a particular church they are moderators of the preaching. Presbyters and deacons help in this function. In the actual canon law they can preach because their ordinations. This is a change with the previous law. Faculty of the preaching could be restricted by a com petent ordinary or particular law, and it is used with a presum ed consent of the rector of the church. Some theological and canonical problems in preaching are with the expression „in persona Christi”. Ministers preach „in persona Christi”, especially during the Holy Mass. This fact eliminates lay preaching in the Eucharistic, but it needs some more searching.

Abstract:
The Holy Eucharist is the Great Mystery of Salvation. In the celebration of the Eucharist, God through Jesus Christ in the Holy Spirit redeemed mankind. John Paul II calls the Eucharist a celebration of redemption because Jesus Christ, the High Priest, was present in a real and sacramental manner in the form of bread and wine which was changed into His Body and Blood. Jesus Christ is also present in the priests as in persona Christi. The Eucharist is a celebration of salvation because Jesus Christ sacrificed and became a spiritual meal for His people, the Church. In short, the Eucharist is the work of God Himself who calls His people to live and unite with Him. God is the main actor, owner and master of the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. Priests are alter Christiwho are chosen and ordained to serve the Eucharist. Priests act in the name of Christ not on themselves. They represent, work together and unite with Christ, the Author and the main Subject of the Eucharistic sacrifice, offering authentic sacrifices namely Christ Himself for the salvation of souls. So the priests were not justified in making the Holy Eucharist a narcissistic stage. They may not carry out self-assertive actions and try to attract the attention of the faithful to themselves.

Abstract:
In mainstream Christian tradition, women have been systematically disadvantaged, being denied the same rights, privileges and opportunities as men based solely on biological sex. The goal of this paper is to re-examine Christian tradition to see if anything redemptive or empowering for women can be found. Through close reading and analysis of biblical texts and Christian feminist theology, I have come to find that interpreting Christian tradition through a feminist hermeneutical lens can offer redemption to Christianity's patriarchal foundations, and can be useful and empowering to women in Christianity. The broader implication that I make plain is that Christianity can either be affirming or nonaffirming for women depending on the type of hermeneutical lens that is used to interpret the Bible and other Christian texts.

The choice of the theme Personal relationship with Jesus Christ comes, not only from the possibility of being a subject investigated on a scientific aspect, marked by innovation and in academic discussions, but also on the fact that, although human life is relational dynamics, the human being is always inclined to the Absolute, to the fullness of his life with the desire of achieving the sense of his life, in a relationship with the One who is the meaning of his life. The objectives were not only to provide a reflection about this true meeting, which no one can leave the same way he or she was before, because it generates the testimony of what was lived, and to ratify that this relationship comes from the initiative of the proper God who offers Himself in Jesus Christ, through different realities. To seek for philosophical-theological theoretical basis as a support for the argument proposed, we discuss, in the methodology, the bibliographic research, as effect also of the review of the material distributed in class, and the documentary, with the technical standards and the Documents of the Magisterium. The results obtained, from the observation and analysis of texts allow us to conclude that man can make a profound experience of meeting with Him to transform life in the today of human existence. It must be just attentive to His strong presence in the contemporary world.

Winder, Timothy J. "The sacrificial Christology of Hebrews : a Jewish Christian contribution to the modern debate about the Person of Christ." Thesis, University of Leeds, 2005. http://etheses.whiterose.ac.uk/443/.

Abstract:
The Epistle to the Hebrews has been characterised as being a late and strongly Hellenistic text, which displays a high incarnational Christology very similar to, if not as fully developed as, that expressed in the Fourth Gospel. These scholarly assumptions have resulted in Hebrews remaining peripheral to the modem debate about the person of Christ, an approach which this thesis explores and questions. Some modem scholars have recognised that the Epistle also contains an important depiction of the historical human Jesus. This has led many scholars to argue that the Epistle contains two conflicting and juxtaposed portraits of Christ - one concerned with the human historic Jesus - the other concerned with Christ the Divine Son of God This thesis attempts to examine these assumptions and explores the possibilty that Hebrews simply juxtaposes different Christological portraits. Through the exploration of questions of authorship, audience and the background of thought which enables the most assured reading of this enigmatic text, this thesis questions some of these traditional scholarly assumptions. This survey demonstrates how a case can be constructed for an earlier dating of this text, which also recognises its essential `Jewish' Christian character. Some modem scholars recognise that Hebrews contains a distinctive portrait of the human historic Jesus. On the basis that modem study has advocated that Christology should be constructed from below, this thesis first considers the historical Jesus which is the central concern of the Epistle's thinking about the person of Christ. Close study of significant textual features demonstrates that Hebrews' Christology displays a pronounced concern to secure Jesus' close solidarity with humanity, a solidarity which is functionally necessary given the Epistle's use of Old Testament concepts of priesthood in order to explore the meaning of Christ's redemptive activity. Subsequent consideration of the contrasting `high' Christological elements within the Epistle demonstrates both why these have dominated scholarly discussion, and also, more significantly how they also focus attention on the redemptive activity of Jesus' life. Whereas concepts of Divine Sonship and Priesthood might be expected to establish Christ's exalted status, this study demonstrates how these concepts also stress ideas of humiliation and human solidarity. This rather unexpected finding is reflected in a marked ambiguity in the language Hebrews chose to use in expressing his teaching, and I maintain here that this is not an unintentional outcome of the Old Testament citations used but the reflection of the author's deliberate theological intentions. Attention is then focused on a fuller consideration of Hebrews' use of Old Testament concepts and traditions concerning priesthood in constructing its theological and Christological argument. The consideration of these features is divided into two separate but inter-linked studies. The first of these explores concepts of priesthood and sacrifice by consideration of the motifs of human solidarity, the union of priest and victim and ideas concerning a sinless high priest. These discussions include a consideration of Hebrews' use of the idea of `perfection' and its teaching about the sinlessness of Jesus. It is then shown how these ideas provide a basis for uniting the contrasting portraits of Hebrews' Christology. The second of these studies explores Hebrews' use of the traditions associated with the Old Testament priestly figure of Melchizedek, by means of which the Epistle establishes the superiority of Christ's priesthood and redemptive activity. In establishing this superiority Hebrews demonstrates the redundancy of the Levitical priesthood and cultic traditions. This approach typifies Hebrews' positive attitude towards Old Testament religious traditions, which he believes have been both superseded and fulfilled in the person of Christ. Modem scholarship has characterised this approach as an eschatological approach to the revelation of God. The concluding chapter of this thesis considers Hebrews' understanding of Christ's work - both in terms of his past redemptive activity and his present heavenly work of representation and intercession. It is maintained that Christ's work, especially his redemptive activity, is the central concern and focus upon which Hebrews' Christological scheme is constructed, a scheme which unifies the human and divine in the historical Jesus. Hebrews' teaching results in a very dynamic depiction of the person of Christ, which suggests that Hebrews contains many valuable insights on which those involved in the modem debate about the person of Christ might draw.

Abstract:
Through the information, knowledge and values offered, the educational process aims at forming and shaping characters. The Christian character presupposes an improvement of each faculty of the soul through the relationship between grace and freedom and their constant harmonization, which can be achieved only with the help of a moral-religious education. If in most study disciplines the emphasis is mainly on information, in the case of religious education, the emphasis is on the formative aspect, which brings a balance in the holistic training of the young person. Based on the descriptions of the key competencies, the training profile of the high school graduate was derived from a European Commission document on these competencies on three levels of acquisition: elementary, functional and developed. Thus, by achieving the derived competencies proposed in the religious classes, the eight competencies aimed at training the graduate for integration into society can be developed.

Abstract:
The Muslim Alcazar of Valencia: a functional hypothesisBetween the 1980s and 1990s, the Almoina site in Valencia was excavated by the SIAM (Municipal Service of Archeological Research) and also, in the following decade, the subsoil of the Almudín and the San Luis Beltrán square. In these surveys, remains of the fortifications of the Alcazar were found, as well the royal cemetery and the palatine dwellings that were presumably inside the enclosure. However, the excavation has been partial and not allowed us to understand the functioning of the complex. The work presented here is our interpretation of the organization and evolution of the Alcazar from the Caliphate period to the Christian conquest. It is the mature fruit of a long personal reflection based on the analysis of the plans of the excavations, the confrontation with the original sources of the eleventh (Cidian chronicles) and thirteenth centuries (Llibre del Repartiment and episcopal acquisitions) and some medieval representations, as well as the comparison with other similar structures. The result must be taken with caution and is subject to all kinds of revisions, but we hope that it will help to understand better this fragment of the history of the city of Valencia.

Abstract:
Music composition is embedded into the Viterbo University music theory curriculum to promote active engagement of musical materials. The project accomplishes three basic complementary outcomes: 1) Students will be able to creatively apply and develop the foundations of music theory learned in their first year of university-level music study, 2) Students will develop proficiency using music writing software, and 3) Students will overcome their fear of composition and gain confidence as musicians. Students are taught foundational concepts during the first four semesters of music theory; these concepts are creatively applied and developed in the gestation and birth of a musical composition that is original and personal. Meaning and purpose, combined with guidance and encouragement, sustain these freshmen and sophomore students over a five-month process of framing a concept, composing music, editing their scores, and finally rehearsing and performing their works. The “concept” for the 2018-2019 freshmen and sophomore music theory students was a collaborative venture with Gateway Christian School, which is part of Project Gateway in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. Poetry written specifically for this project by Grade 7 students was collected and given to Viterbo University students for setting; the learning outcomes, as well as the benefits and global focus of the project will be the focus of this paper.

Abstract:
"Despite their diverse origins, the personalities composing this Dark Triad share several features. To varying degrees, all three entail a socially malevolent character with behavior tendencies toward self-promotion, emotional coldness, duplicity, and aggressiveness (Paulhus & Williams, 2002). Subclinical narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy are referred to as the Dark Triad due to their socially undesirable nature, similar phenotypical behaviors (e.g., manipulation), positive intercorrelations of their scales, and conceptual similarities (e.g., ego-centricity) (Rauthmann, 2012). A narcissistic person is described in terms of a high vanity, constantly seeking attention and admiration, with a sense of superiority or authority. Most often he or she manifests manipulative and exhibitionist behaviors. Machiavellianism is a tendency to be cynical, pragmatic, emotionally detached in interpersonal relations but, at the same time a good organizer and having long-term strategically thinking. Psychopathy presents as cardinal features: impulsiveness, emotional detachment, manipulative antisocial behavior. In the current study 126 participants (24 males and 102 females), ages ranged between 18 and 26 years old (M=19.30, SD=1.11), were invited to fill in the following measures: MACH IV (Christie & Geis, 1970), Narcissistic Personality Inventory NPI-16 (Ames, Rose & Anderson, 2006), Self-Report Psychopathy scale – version III (Paulhus, Neumann, & Hare, 2009) and HEXACO-PI-R (Lee & Ashton, 2018). Results showed significant negative correlations between psychoticism and four of the six HEXACO factors, namely Honesty-Humility, Emotionality, Agreeableness, and Conscientiousness. Similarly, narcissism is negatively related to Honesty-Humility and Agreeableness, and positively with Extraversion. Machiavellianism showed a positive correlation with Honesty-Humility, Agreeableness, and Conscientiousness. Findings of the current study should be extended in more diverse samples (e.g., better female-male ratio) and also including measures for the Light Triad of personality, thus providing new insights into the positive, growth-oriented personality traits."

Abstract:
Abstract:
The goal of science education is emphatically positioned on promoting science literacy. The rationale is learners should not only learn about scientific knowledge and processes but also on how to apply the knowledge when making decisions about heterogenous societal and personal issues. Previous research has indicated that by addressing socioscientific issues (SSIs) when teaching controversial science topics, it provides a suitable context for developing scientific literacy in learners. Scientifically literate learners are well-informed citizens with regards to the social, ethical, economic, and political issues impacting on contemporary society. The theory of evolution is one such Life Sciences topic deeply embedded with SSIs. Teachers are conflicted when teaching this topic due to the controversy surrounding the theory as they view the teaching of evolution as a way of negating the legitimacy of their religious and cultural convictions. It is against this background that the study sought to answer the research question: How do Life Sciences teachers conceptualise socioscientific issues embedded in the topic evolution? In an explanatory mixed method approach, a questionnaire with both quantitative and qualitative questions was administered to 28 randomly selected grade 12 Life Sciences teachers. Data was analysed and descriptive statistics were obtained, and themes generated. The findings showed that all the participants were knowledgeable about the SSIs embedded in the topic evolution. In justifying their conceptions 61% of the teachers perceived SSIs as important in improving learners’ reasoning and argumentative skills; developing learners’ critical thinking skills; and in informing learners in decision making. There were however 11% of the teachers who pointed out that SSIs as too sensitive to deal with hence not suitable to teach young learners. Though the teachers were knowledgeable about the SSIs embedded in the theory of evolution, it does not mean that they could address them when teaching the various concepts of evolution. The main source of the controversy rose from the evolution of humankind versus the Christian belief in the six-day special creation. The participants (25%) indicated that evolution challenges peoples’ religious and cultural convictions, which conflicts both the teachers and learners to question or go against their religious beliefs. Several teachers pointed out that some of the concepts on evolution such as ‘living organisms share common ancestry (18%) and ‘the formation of new species from existing species’ (11%), undermine the superiority of human beings over other organisms. The findings have implications for both pre-and in-service teacher professional development.
