Formin proteins, characterized by two conserved formin homology (FH) domains, play an important role in cytoskeletal regulation and dynamics. The FH domains are most commonly implicated with the polymerization of F-actin and more recently with the stabilization of microtubules. Inverted formin 1 (INF1) is an atypical formin that has its FH1 and FH2 domains in its N-terminus. Optical absorption spectroscopy has been applied to study properties such as the fundamental absorption edge and defect absorption centers of group III-nitride compound semiconductor epilayers. The investigation in this thesis focused on analyzing the band gap of indium-rich In1-xGaxN epilayers, which where grown by the high-pressure chemical vapor deposition (HPCVD) technique. In vivo DNA is compacted tightly, via its association with histones and non-histone proteins, into higher-order chromatin structure. In this state, the DNA is refractory to the cellular factors that require access to DNA. The repressive nature of chromatin is alleviated in part by the action enzymes that modify chromatin structure.
