Abstract Background Acute otitis media (AOM) is the most common pediatric outpatient condition treated with antibiotics in the United States. Over 30% of children receive inappropriate antibiotics for AOM, contributing to increasing antimicrobial resistance and unnecessary adverse events. Strict adherence to diagnostic and treatment guidelines has been proposed by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Committee on Infectious Diseases as one strategy to combat inappropriate antibiotic use. Our objective was to describe adherence to the 2013 AAP guidelines on AOM. Methods We performed a cross

The push to exclude students found in zero-tolerance policies co-exists uneasily with the liberal democratic pull to an inclusive education. Principals negotiate the contradictory positioning of students as simultaneously excludable and includable uniquely. There is also an insertion of ‘choice’ as a strategy to resolve these tensions. Abstract:
The cylinder flow is a canonical problem for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), as it can display several of the most relevant issues for a wide class of flows, such as boundary layer separation, vortex shedding, flow instabilities, laminar-turbulent transition and others. Several applications also display these features justifying the amount of energy invested in studying this problem in a wide range of Reynolds numbers. The Unsteady Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes (URANS) equations combined with simplifying assumptions for turbulence have been shown inappropriate for the captive cylinder fl

Automation is becoming an integral part of our daily lives as technology and techniques rapidly develop. Many automation workflows are now routinely being applied within the geoscience domain. The basic structure of automation and its success of modelling fundamentally hinges on the appropriate choice of parameters and speed of processing. The entire process demands that the data being fed into any machine learning model is essentially of good quality. The technological advances in well logging technology over decades have enabled the collection of vast amounts of data across wells and fields.

Abstract:
The choice of reference frame applied in a multibody system and finite element method analysis assists in describing the motion of bodies. Two non-collinear vectors are prerequisite for the creation of a local reference frame for three-dimensional cases. The Frenet frame, which is constructed with tangential and normal vectors, is widely used for continuous, differentiable space curves, and the local reference frame for underwater cable systems. However, because underwater cables experience external loads originating from the surrounding environment, it is inappropriate to only treat an underw

Abstract:
Financial turmoil is becoming a fact of life in Latin America. The 1990s have been characterized by enormous volatility in the magnitude and cost of capital flows. The correlation of capital swings across disparate countries suggests that the quality of emerging market policies in addition to global factors have been the main actors in this drama. Therefore, the blame for financial turmoil has moved away from inappropriate domestic policies. Instead, the paradigm has shifted to one of determining which policies - domestic or international - are most effective in taming the destabilizing effect

Aus der Einleitung: Given two ontologies/terminologies collections of terms and their 'meanings' as used in some universe of discourse (UofD), our general task is to integrate them into a single ontology, which captures the meanings of the original terms and their inter-relationships. This problem is motivated by several application scenarios: • First, such ontologies have been and are being developed independently by multiple groups for knowledge-based and other applications. Among others, medicine is an area in which such ontologies already abound [RZStGC, CCHJ94, SCC97]. • Second, a traditi

Abstract:
With the proliferation of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) over the past decade, demand for quantitative analysis of their likely impacts has surged. The main quantitative tool for performing such analysis is Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) modeling. Yet these models have been widely criticized for performing poorly (Kehoe, 2002) and having weak econometric foundations (McKitrick, 1998; Jorgenson, 1984). FTA results have been shown to be particularly sensitive to the trade elasticities, with small trade elasticities generating large terms of trade effects and relatively modest efficiency gain
