By the turn of the seventeenth century a generation of Andean natives, both Inca and aboriginal, had made lifelong homes within the strongholds of the European invaders. T4 tumors are usually unresectable and incurable. Our group retrospectively analyzed the feasibility and efficacy of induction chemoradiotherapy plus surgery for T3 and T4 tumors. Methods: Eligible patients (pts) had biopsy proven, untreated, T3–4N0–1 Pancoast tumors. Induction therapy was cisplatin (50 mg/m2, days 1,8,29,36) and etoposide (50 mg/m2, days 1–5, 29–33) (PE) given concurrently with radiation (45 Gy, 25 daily fractions). Thoracoto

Background and context: According to INCA (National Cancer Institute), over 300,000 women would be diagnosed with cancer in 2017 in Brazil. There are many obstacles for full autonomy of Brazilian women. However, their contribution to the growth of the Brazilian GDP has been increasingly more significant. Access to prevention, diagnosis and health care have an impact on those levels because, the more healthy women are, the more they can be economically active. The engagement of female political leaders for the promotion of public policies is a major opportunity. Aim: Promoting the engagement of

Mammography is the most effective method for early diagnosis, capable of detecting lesions as small as 2 mm before symptoms or dissemination. To ensure its effectiveness, mammography systems must comply with Brazilian standards, such as RDC nº 611 and IN nº 92 from Anvisa, through quality control testing. One of the primary quality tests is the Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) analysis, which evaluates system performance in the

ASCO has developed quality measures on the administration of adjuvant endocrine therapy, radiotherapy and chemotherapy to improve the quality and accessibility of cancer care. We applied these measures to describe the quality of care offered to women with breast cancer in a public hospital in order to identify its determining factors. Abstract Breast cancer is currently the second most common neoplasm worldwide and the leading cause of death by cancer among women. Treatment advances based on molecular classification of tumors have contributed to reduce mortality in many developed countries. Nevertheless, the growing incidence worldwide poses additional challenges to adjust prognostic evaluation to changing epidemiological profiles in distinct populations. In this regard, the present study evaluates a current prospective cohort of Brazilian women with primary unilateral and non-metastatic breast carcinoma, who were diagnosed

The friar Martín de Murua (1566?-1615) composed a Quechua palindrome poem as part of an illustrated Andean legend in his first manuscript version (1590) of his chronicle (Historia general del Perú [1616]). The poem faces a depiction by the Andean artist, don Felipe Guaman Poma de Ayala (c. 1560s-c. 1616), of a woman sitting in the middle of a four-cornered, enchanted Inca fountain. Murua reimagined Guaman Poma’s image in a form reminiscent of the Latin Rotas-Sator Square.
