This paper displays the discoveries of the scientists about the impacts of slanted protection in ballistic effect resistance. The rule favoured stance to ascertaining the cautious layer of a composite plate is that it assembles the Line-of-Sight (LOS) thickness of the plate. Another favoured viewpoint of having slanted fortification is that it has a much higher plausibility of diverting shots than a vertical plate of tantamount thickness.

Natural armors found in animals like fish and armadillos offer inspiration for designing protective systems that balance puncture resistance and flexibility. Although segmented armors have been used historically, modern applications are hindered by a limited understanding of their mechanics. This study addresses these challenges by presenting two novel bio-inspired scale structures with overlapping and staggered configurations, modeled after the elasmoid designs found in fish. Their shapes differ significantly from other artificial scales commonly described in the literature, which are typical

In this paper, an attempt was made to increase the ballistic protection of the armor system by combining non-homogenous spaced armor in form of multilayer wire mesh with rolled homogenous armor steel base plate. Different angles of incidence were tested: 0, 20, 25 and 35o, by using 12.7 mm armor piercing incendiary ammunition from 100 m. It was found that the inclination of the armor system has a negative effect on ballistic resistance due to variations in wire body-to-body distance, some of which can increase, causing a decreased contact with the projectile and an insufficient yaw. The yaw ca

The important mechanisms for defeating armor piercing (AP) projectiles are reviewed in this paper. These mechanisms are based on the compressive strength of the target material (its inherent resistance to penetration) and on the asymmetrical forces which it exerts on the threat, through proper geometrical arrangements. We discuss the basic features of the resistance to penetration, starting with the classical analysis of the cavity expansion process in elasto-plastic solids. This property of the target is responsible for the deceleration of hard cored projectiles and for the erosion of long ro

Vibrio vulnificus is an emergent marine pathogen and is the cause of a deadly septicemia. However, the evolution mechanism of antibiotic-resistant genes (ARGs) is still unclear. Twenty-two high-quality complete genomes of V. vulnificus were obtained and grouped into 16 clinical isolates and 6 environmental isolates. Genomic annotations found 23 ARG orthologous genes, among which 14 ARGs were shared by V. vulnificus and other Vibrio members. Furthermore, those ARGs were located in their chromosomes, rather than in the plasmids. Phylogenomic reconstruction based on single-copy orthologous protei

Introduction -- Making Sense of the (Virtual) World Computer games are never "just games". Computer games are models of reality and if they were not, we would never be able to understand them. Models serve three functions; they capture important, critical features of that which is to be represented while ignoring the irrelevant, they are appropriate for the person and they are appropriate for the task -- thereby enhancing the ability to make judgements and discover relevant regularities and structures (Norman 1993). What is put forth, instead, is a juxtaposition of lines of thinking about the scholarly and popular in publishing, past, present and future. As such it may indeed be quite appropriate to the occasion and the questions raised in the call for papers for this special issue of M/C Journal. The ideas put forth here are intended as pieces of an ever-changing puzzle of the making public of scholarship, which, I hope, may in some way fit with both the work

Abstract A series of Taylor rod-on-anvil experiments have been performed to validate the predicted impact velocity fracture threshold and fracture mode of a high hardness armour steel (HHA) obtained through explicit finite element simulations. Experimentally, the rods exhibited principal shear failure, a condition that can be closely linked to adiabatic shear band (ASB) formation in high strength steel. Using a stress triaxiality and Lode angle dependent failure strain criterion (Basaran 3D fracture locus), calibrated from quasi-static mechanical characterisation tests, the simulations were un

В статье с критических позиций рассмотрена точка зрения Л. The author argues these artifacts are in fact steelyard weights, as evidenced by such elements as Princes’ emblems (allegedly ascertaining the correct weight), lead filling, elaborate ornamentation and by the territorial sprea
